I had the pleasure of stumbling upon the Sweet Lucie's ice cream cart at a private event recently. As a fan of Scoops, Angelato and many other Los Angeles ice cream institutions, I was really curious to try their organic ice cream.
I'll start with the service. The owners are extremely warm, inviting and genuinely excited for you to try their ice cream. They invited me to have a taste of all of their flavors, even though there was a long line of people behind me.
Among the flavors were Snickerdoodle, Pumpkin Pie, Frozen Hot Chocolate, Peppermint Tea Choc Chip and Holiday Party Punch. The Pumpkin Pie really tasted like pumpkin pie with real pie crust mixed in. I'm a big fan of Pumpkin Pie and I've had far too many "pumpkin" flavored ice creams that don't make the grade. This ice cream was spot on.
The Snickerdoodle was probably my favorite, although hard to choose. It possessed all of the buttery cinnamon goodness that a proper snickerdoodle should have with real cookie cookie chunks mixed in.
Finally, I have to comment on the adorable factor of the ice cream cart. It's a baby blue cart with a striped blue & white awning and Schwinn Bicycle wheels. Doesn't get much cuter than that. -

Handmade Organic Icecream!!!
I've gotten used to the fake stuff and learned to like it ALOT, so i'm always wary of organic desserts, cuz the few i have tried have been kind of tasteless.
HOWEVER, this cute company won me over with their pistachio icecream! At the Street Food Fest, they were scooping up some samples and i was gonna go for the more popular cookies and cream but decided to get my pistachio fix and was quite pleased! Sure it's not as fatty, rich and yummy tasting as "regular" icecream, but it being organic, i enjoyed it!Listed in: mobile food!!!, Icy Sweet!

Hired Sweet Lucie's for my wedding and it was a huge hit. We had 300 guests so we got the cart with 6 flavors. I heard they ran out just in time, it was the perfect amount :) Definitely a good sign! Highly recommend Sweet Lucie's if you're looking for something different for your event.

I had the opportunity to try Sweet Lucie's at a friend's wedding... and their ice cream reminded me of Scoops: handmade fresh ice cream minus the unique flavors. I grabbed a business card hoping to make many visits to their ice cream shop... but unfortunately, they only operate as a cater ice cream truck. I might just have to stalk them when they participate at food events!
I had their Mint Lemonade Sorbet and it was good for a nice hot summer day! (very light and refreshing) But I was dying for something a little more, something that would satisfy a sweet tooth... I went back and they were gone!! I would have love to try their coconut or pistachio ice cream. I had a taste of their mint chocolate chip -- and that was really good!! As the flavors melted in mouth, I could definitely tell that the ice cream was made with love. The quality of it was exceptional.
It was neat to find out through cyberworld that the guy serving the ice cream to me was the owner... and this was a mom and pop business. (No wonder the ice cream was really good!) I wished I had known sooner. (No wonder the service was good too - very warm and friendly.) It touches me that their business is built on a good model, and that the people serving the ice cream were the actual owners!!!
I would love for Sweet Lucie's to have a non-mobile ice cream shop -- as I would love to be a regular customer. However, after discovering Sweet Lucie's story, I would hate to not be served by the owners who seems to love their ice cream business. -

I also experienced them at the LA food fest and was IMMENSELY impressed with their Mint Lemonade sorbet. So light and refreshing, with real bits of mint leaves! I wish I'd had more room in my stomach to try other flavors, but that last bit from these guys was the perfect capper to a gluttontastic afternoon. If I see them tooling around in their cute little truck I'm gonna chase them down!

Sweet Lucie's was my favorite dessert at the LA Street Food Fest! First of all, their vintage cart is awesome. Makes getting ice cream super-fun. We tried the MINT LEMONADE SORBET and PISTACHIO ICE CREAM. Both were excellent. The sorbet was very refreshing with a strong mint flavor. The pistachio was surprisingly creamy and not overly sweet.

Had the pleasure of meeting the two wonderful people who run this amazing slice of dessert heaven this past weekend at Unique OC. Mike and Geri are definitely full of good old fashion genuine kindness and passion for the product that they represent.
I mentioned how I thought their ice cream cart was a great design and they proceeded to tell me how they had to make it in lieu of the actual truck which is nearly finished since the restoration process for their vintage vehicle was now nearly a year deep. That's some dedication folks! The cart holds 6 or 8 flavors and generally they have a couple which are sorbet so the vegans and lactose crowd can still enjoy the cool delicious scoops of amazingness. I had sampled the cookies and cream the first day as I heard it was their most popular and while it was certainly tasty, it was clearly outdone by the mint strawberry lemonade. Ho. Lee. Balls. I mean you could see the finely chopped mint and strawberry seeds in there not to mention it was pretty much the best non-alcoholic mojito rendition I've ever had. Right anyways. If I could buy a pint of that flavor for summer, I would do it in a heartbeat. Actually I will go so far as to say that their strawberry lemonade sorbet has become the definitive taste of summer 2010 for me. I'm sitting here hoping that one will just miraculously materialize. Wait for it. Waaait for iiiit. .... ....... ......... ....... freaking dangit I got nothing, fine.
Bottom line, follow their twitter feed @ilovelucies and hunt them down for some good old fashions quality iced cream and sorbet. Trust me, you don't need 31 flavors when you know what you're doing. And Sweet Lucies without a doubt, knows what they're doing. Good luck with that truck Mike & Geri! -

I was lucky enough to try some Sweet Lucie's at the Unique OC event. Not only was the cart adorable but they had the product to back it up. I got the Strawberry Mint Lemonade Sorbet, which typically would scare me away because of the many flavors involved. After trying a sample, I was hooked immediately and had to buy more for me and my daughter. The flavors were subtle yet complimented each other extremely well. I was also impressed by the quality of the product. You could tell that only the freshest, finest ingredients went in to making my delicious sorbet. I'd love to book them for an event because the product and the people were so great.
