My boyfriend and I eat at Sweet Ginger at least once a week, minimum. It's maybe slightly embarrassing how much we love it here.

Their Pad Thai is probably the best I've ever had (and I've seen my fair share of Pad Thai in my day) and their Drunken Noodles are to die for - we always get them with tofu and shrimp. Start off with a cup of Tom Yum, and fresh rolls with peanut sauce, or the crab Rangoons, which are made with curry powder. Curried crab rangoons. Seriously.

Portions are gigantic, prices are good, and the ladies working here are incredibly sweet. Plus, they have no problem doing any sort of substitutions. And takeout is SO FAST.  If you walk in and place an order, you usually are taking it home within 10 minutes. And they deliver, too!

We ordered crab rangoon and pad thai to go. The food was ready in 10 minutes, and reasonably priced. There was a party of six dining in and a few stragglers waiting for their to go's, but other than that the restaurant was slow - it was a Wednesday.

The pad thai was good, a bit sweet for my taste but I find that's the trend with many thai restaurants serving Americans. The crab rangoon, however, was phenomenal. They mix sweet curry with the crab and cream cheese and the combination is outstanding. I was sad because there were four rangoon and I wanted more :(

Had lunch here with a friend several months ago.

Good location (near my home), reasonable price and good food. People are nice. Great choice for neighbourhood lunch/dinner place. Planning to go back again with my new roommate.

crab rangoon is not Thai food... spring (fresh) rolls. um, Vietnamese? but its all kind of tasty, just not thai.  And normally portions of Thai food are not generous. Have you ever seen an overweight Thai person?

We checked this place out the other night due to the amazing reviews I saw on yelp. Honestly, I just thought it was an average Thai restaurant. That being said, average Thai food is still good food and I wouldn't discourage anyone from going there. Overall, dishes were what you'd expect at a decent thai place and prices were reasonable. We had crispy duck, salmon, spicy yellow curry and some veggie dish. Everyone enjoyed their food but didn't rave about it. Portions were generous. That is all.

Great noodles and meat dishes.  Excellent cabbage and mushroom dumplings.  Seitan is an option not listed on foodler but you can ask for it when ordering (just write "mock meat" or "veggie duck" if ordering online).  The only thing I've found lacking are the rice dishes (e.g. basil, ginger, etc.)  They're a bit simplistic and underwhelming, so I'll stick with my drunken noodles in the future.

Definitely my go to Thai spot in Somerville. The service is fast and attentive for both dining in and take-out. I've had a bunch of the noodle dishes, including pad thai and pad woon sen, both solid and delicious, but the stand-out is the rama shower. Strange name aside, this is a simple dish of chicken, vegetables and rice but the peanut sauce is lick-the-spoon-clean good. I really appreciate the fact that though it looks fancier from the outside, the staff is totally unpretentious. I have walked in through the door five minutes before they close and ordered up dishes - no attitude but great food and smiles.

Thank you whoever recommended the crab rangoon apps -- they were amazing! They were oozing with a curry sauce and they were oh so scrumptious. mMmMM! The spring rolls were just OK. Our table ordered mainly noodle dishes, and Sweet Ginger Thai seemed to get everything on point. Good place to get Thai food in Union Square.

Holy cow, you MUST try the crab rangoon!  I was a bit nervous about it because when I cut into the perfect little pouches, it was all yellowy-green on the inside, but that's the curry giving it tons of flavor!  I immediately regretted agreeing to share the crab rangoon with my cousin, and considered ordering a second plate just for myself...  The pad thai is pretty great, too, and I think my cousin enjoyed her meal but I was very involved in my own culinary goings-on.

Our bill for two entrees, an appetizer, and a glass of wine was about $35 with tip.  The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and the food is pretty good.  I'm sort of glad I don't live in this area or I'd spend way too much money dining here.

If I were to assign a rating based on the food alone, I'd give it a 3, as I've always found it to be decent, if not slightly underwhelming (have been about 3-4 times).  I knocked them down a point, however, after my visit a couple of weeks ago when I stopped in for a late lunch. I ordered the Som-Tum, which was pretty good. I wanted to bring the rest home, and was on the fence about saving or eating the last shrimp (there weren't many to start with); I decided I'd like to have it when I eat the leftovers, and asked the waiter to wrap it up for me. When I went to east the rest for dinner later the same day, you guessed it... no shrimp. I also did not receive a response from the manager, when I emailed the restaurant through the site the very same day. I can't help wonder if the shrimp made it onto someone else's plate, or if the guy in the kitchen decided he was hungry. Grrr.

    UPDATE:
The owner did eventually contact me, was very apologetic, and offered me a SomTum on the house (which I politely declined, as I wouldn't want it to look like I said something in order to get free food...) S/he had no answers for why the shrimp didn't make it home with me, but said she thought the server must have misunderstood and thrown it out...

I often visit this place while shopping at grocery stores near this place such as Market Basket and Reliable (Asian market).
The interior looks good and clean and makes me more hungry due to the color.
The great thing of this restaurant is that the kitchen is open to customers, so you can see how your orders are being cooked directly.
The service is good, but around 6-7PM the waitress is very busy because they have many delivery requests.
The food tastes great so far. I usually order Pad Thai and Massaman curry, but the other menus were good, too.

Oh, Sweet Ginger! You are the only Thai place that not only has a nickname in this household (yes, we call you Sweet Gingies), but a whole night ("It's Sweet Gingies night! YES!").

My other half and I are not very adventurous when it comes to Thai food. She always gets Veggie Rolls and Pineapple Fried Rice and I always get Crab Rangoon and Shrimp Pad Thai. That being said, we have collectively eaten a lot of the above and I can say that Sweet Gingers does it right.

That crab rangoon... wow. They took something and COMPLETELY made it theirs. It BLEW MY MIND HOLE. Wonton wrappers filled with curry and cream cheese and crab and topped with this pineapple relish... AMAZING.

We were served by the sweetest server, and we enjoyed our entrees immensely.

Boyfriend had the basil fried rice and I had the drunken noodles... we didn't leave much on our plates.

Awesome. Definitely in our regular rotation now!

I really enjoy eating here. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The menu has many options to choose from. I really like their curry dishes. However I did order there Sizzling Jumbo Shrimp and there were only 3 prawns over vegetables for I$13.95 (which is expensive for what you get). The prawns were very delicious, I just wish there were more of them. All of the dishes there are super tasty and they have a good selection of beer and wine.  I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant!

WOW! That is the first word that comes to mind when I think of the Thai food at Sweet Ginger and I am a huge fan of Thai cuisine.

I recently moved to Somerville from Western Mass and was eager to find a good Thai restuarant that had Pad Mee - which is my favorite. While Sweet Ginger does not have my favorite dish, they do however offer plenty of other dishes that tickle my fancy. The Drunken Noodles along with the Pad Thai are becoming 2 of my favorite dishes to order and are even better than my favorite Thai restaurant in Western Mass.

I did however venture past my normal decisions last night and tried the Yellow Curry along with the crab rangoon, and let me tell you these did not disappoint! I believe they put some type of curry in the crab rangoon because these have a nice different taste to them than I am use to getting from other restaurants.

To wrap up my ramblings, you will not be dissapointed with choosing Sweet Ginger Thai Cuisine if your stomach is in the mood for some amazing Thai food and your wallet will not be hurting either!

I stopped at Sweet Ginger for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. I was the only customer in the joint and the woman who waited on me was super nice--attentive but not overly solicitous.

I ordered the Crazy Tilapia lunch special. It was a very nice piece of fish served in a delicious, spicy basil sauce with chilis with a side of white rice. By the end of my meal I was feeling the heat: it was very, very pleasant.

    Definitely coming back!

Fantastic Thai food. We have eaten a lot of Thai all over and this is right up there. The wife loves the Pad Thai and the Chicken Kra Pow has a ridiculous name but it is crazy good. About to order now but the line is busy which is also a good sign. Going to try the Rangoons based on some of the reviews. I hope my fellow Yelpers don't let me down but I am not really that worried...

Just went here for the first time, and absolutely loved it.

There was a Thai place one town over from where I grew up that was so good it ruined all other Thai food for me.  Nothing could compare.

So far, this place is in it to win it.  The food was insanely tasty and very affordable, and the cozy little restaurant itself is charming.  The waitress was prompt and friendly, and they had Anchor Steam, which went perfectly with the meal.

I'll definitely be coming back for more.

I am revisiting a prior 4-star review to offer the 5th star for the second time.  My wife and I ordered tofu pad Thai, crab Rangoon, shrimp shumai, and mango sticky rice this evening.  A complete knockout of a meal.
I had commented previously that the pad Thai had fallen off a bit.  Not so tonight.  They have figured out whatever they may have done wrong in the past, and the noodles were cooked perfectly.  And the tofu was awesome in it, never missed the chicken.
These guys know what they are doing.  Do yourself a favor- copy our order.  You'll love it.

We ordered a lot of food (about $35 worth), but when it came, it turned out to be enough to last 2 of us for both dinner and lunch.

The crab rangoon are delicious. The flavor is sort of a cross between the classic American invention and a veggie samosa. The extra vegetables and spices make it much more interesting.

The Tom Kha soup was pretty decent as well. I'm generally not a huge fan, but my girlfriend liked it, so put this one down in the W column as well.

We debated whether to get the Tamarind Duck. Usually the duck dishes are pretty lame at these types of places. But Sweet Ginger loaded the container with really excellent pieces of duck, fresh vegetables, and a sauce that really complemented the duck well. The dish also came with white rice. A single order of soup, crab rangoon, and 1 duck dish was enough to satisfy us, which was pretty damn amazing.

We saved the huge container of pad thai for lunch. It was delicious even reheated.

Super nice and friendly people too, which adds far more than most restaurants understand.

Definitely going into our delivery rotation.

I've had the pleasure of Sweet Ginger twice - once for dine in and once for take out.

The dine in is casual and very "chef's table" like due to the fact that you can watch the kitchen and are face to face with the food window.  It's not for everyone, but if you enjoy some behind-the-scenes excitement, it's great.

I had the ginger chicken which was cooked wonderfully.  My fiance had the beef basil which he often orders from dozens of Thai restaurants and this one was exceptional.  We also had fresh rolls, which were very good.  We liked our food so much that we ordered nearly the same thing for take out a week later, except this time I tried the yellow curry which was also great.

The service in the restaurant was kind and speedy.  If you want a casual, well-priced menu, this is a wonderful place.  The one thing that put me off was watching the plastic covered meat being opened and laid out on a tiny grill.  But, the meat TASTED great and the more I thought about it, the individual plastic packaging probably provides for the best marination.  The restaurant is also tiny, around 10 tables or depending on party size.

Oh gosh. My empty takeout boxes are sitting beside my desk as I write this.

So I had to take a take-home final exam in Copyediting tonight, after a day of work, plus a final presentation for another class. So, yeah. No way in hell was I cooking. I wanted tasty delicious food that would fill and satisfy me and fuel me through my tedious exam (so long as I was careful not to drip sauce on the paper). I did a little browsing through Yelp and Foodler and figured Sweet Ginger was the way to go.

I'd been to Sweet Ginger before for a sit-down dinner and was pleased with both the food and the service. That time, I ordered the Drunken Noodles, a variation off my usual Thai staple, Pad See Iew. I remembered it burning me in the best way possible. I don't have much of a spice tolerance, I'm afraid, but I loved it anyway. It was so delicious I kept piling it in even as I began sweating and breathing heavily and consuming my weight in water.

This time I ordered the Drunken Noodles again. I was inches away from ordering my beloved Pad See Iew, but decided something with a fiery kick was better for the coldest night this year so far. This time I requested tofu instead of the chicken and shrimp. I'm not a vegetarian; I just really really love the wonderful soft-crisp-chewiness of fried tofu, especially when it's coated in dark soy sauce and mixed with wide rice noodles and...am I salivating again? Sorry. The Drunken Noodles do not fail to deliver. They are the epitome of Drunken Noodles. Especially with the tofu.

I also like that they make some effort to be healthy, or at least to present healthy options. My Drunken Noodles seemed to have more vegetables in them than versions I've encountered elsewhere. They definitely use a generous amount of oil as well, but...wide rice noodles just get more delicious the more oil you add. I also like that they offer brown rice as an option. You do have to pay an extra 25 cents, but that's hardly highway robbery. I'll pay 25 cents for my more-nutritious whole-grains any day. Granted, I have yet to branch out from my beloved wide rice noodle dishes, but someday, I'm sure I'll test out the brown rice in a stir-fry or curry dish.

I don't live all that far from Union Square, but I'd already been out in the bitter cold multiple times today, and I had zero interest in venturing out again for pick-up. I needed to bring my delivery total up to the minimum of $15, so I tried out the seaweed wrap appetizer and the miso soup, both specials. The seaweed wraps were unusual. I wasn't sure what to expect from the description. They were breaded and fried seaweed sheets wrapped around some sweet potato noodles and cabbage. Like a spring roll but with seaweed instead of a rice sheet. Not bad; definitely a new one for me. A little greasier than I'd anticipated, but tasty.

I was satisfied with delivery service; the delivery man seemed very sweet in my brief interaction with him, and the delivery time was accurate, if not a little faster than quoted. I did have to pay a $2 delivery fee, but oh well. I'll consider it my fee for being lazy and getting to stay inside my nice warm apartment.

The best part? I was done with my copyediting exam in record time. I attribute my speed to the good mood induced by my tasty tasty meal from Sweet Ginger Thai.

I just moved to Cambridge area and have been basing all of my dinner decisions on Yelp. My friend and I were looking for a place to meet that was between our two places and saw the great reviews for Sweet Ginger.

I have since eaten there a couple of times in person and also gotten take-out at least 4 times so far.

Per other reviews, I ordered the crab rangoon, which was amazing. If you are looking for something that tastes like cream cheese, this is not it. It seems to have some sort of curry inside and is slightly sweet, yet still savory. Very cool twist on a classic appetizer and definitely worth a try.

I always try to branch out with my Thai, but when trying new places I always try the Pad Thai first. I thought the texture and flavor was great. I asked for very spicy when dining in, and got a medium heat. However, the last time I got take out, I asked for medium and got the hottest Pad Thai i've ever eaten. It all depends on who is making it I guess.

The yellow curry with shrimp is very good and I ended up bogarting half of my friends drunken noodles because they were so delicious.

I also got the sticky rice with mango which was pretty classic and very good. The mango wasn't super ripe, but it was great for being out of season. Other places have tried to pass off orange rocks as mango before, so at least my experience here has been great with the mango consistency.

They are nice, easy to deal with when it comes to high-maintenece requests and super fast. Overall a pretty solid bet on take-out or dine-in.

Just got back from Sweet Ginger Thai. Really good, solid Thai food.

We started off with the Golden Triangles. It is a bit expensive for just 4 pieces, but it was so delicious. It had a hint of curry powder which really made the dish... I only wish we could've had more!

I had the pad thai and the husband had yellow curry with sticky rice. We were both very happy with our food. The curry starts off mild but the more you eat, the heat starts to kick in. It isn't overpowering... just right.

We finished off with the mango sticky rice for dessert. It is basically sticky rice with coconut milk on it with two large slices of mango on the side. The mango was delicious and a perfect compliment to the sticky rice.

The thai iced tea was also very good.

Service was great... our water glasses were never empty and the waiter offered lots of good suggestions. The decor was very nice and calming and the bathrooms are kept clean.

Parking right in front of the restaurant is metered, but much of the surrounding area is free 2 hour parking so drive around. It was really easy to find parking on a Saturday night.

    We'll definitely be back again.

If you're the type of person that thinks crab rangoon is beneath you (because afterall, it's JUST cream cheese with crab meat and then deep fried wonton wrap, right? WRONG), prepare to be knocked off your high horse.
I mean seriously. Seriously. They have an excellent curry/veggie twist on the typical crab rangoon and it always has me craving for more. I'd probably give them just 5 stars on the crab rangoons alone, but that would be jumping the gun just a tad bit.

Pro: Overall, Sweet Ginger is a safe place for lunch and dinner. Their prices are very reasonable and their Pad Thai, Basil Fried Rice, Pad See Ew, and Drunken Noodles are always my top picks from them. The service is very prompt and attentive, often filling my waters and asking if we were doing alright and enjoying the meal. Seating time is never more than 5-10 minutes, despite the space being somewhat tight (roughly about 8-10 tables).

Cons: The last time I went (and it really was only the last time, since I've ordered this dish many times before) I ordered the Basil Fried Rice with substitute beef vs. chicken and it came out relatively over cooked. Definitely too dry and chewy for my taste. Maybe it really ought to be served with chicken, but regardless, if you can get past the over cooked meat part, the fried rice really is just delicious.

In conclusion, Sweet Ginger is a nice place to go for yummy thai food at a reasonable price. It's not an out of body experience eating here, but it's tasty, comforting, cozy, and cost effective enough to be put into a rotating cycle of places to dine.

I checked out Sweet Ginger a little earlier this summer and am excited about the nice addition to my neighborhood!!  I love Thai food, and am kind of over a lot of the Thai places around that I was fooling around with for a while (I am looking at you, Sugar and Spice, Similans, and Lemon Thai).  I can't totally commit to Sweet Ginger, there will still be some Spice and Rice and Tamarind house in the mix, but I think I will come back here a lot.

It was my Mom's birthday and we had a girlie day of mani/pedis followed by delicious thai food.  I got basil chicken with steamed rice noodles, and I think we started with some steamed dumplings or shao mai or something.  It's all a blur of deliciousness.  I'll go back again and update once i've tried more of the offerings, but it's a cute, laid back spot with cheap prices and tasty food.

You know what, screw it. I don't care about all the bogus hosannas being sung about this place and piling up below, I'm dropping a five spot on Sweet Ginger. It's the real deal, straight up, no two ways about it. I've been to just about every Thai restaurant in the Boston/Cambridge/Somerville area, points in between and points afar, and this, this is the best. By a mile - Or a half mile - Or, well, maybe a 100 yards, past like Montien and Brown Sugar.

You trust me, right? I have more than one or two nonbogus reviews to my name. I'm not an orange head. I'm not a shill for the Gingers. I'm just a creepy puppet cat who looks with disdain up on his sauceless spaghetti, lamenting quietly to himself "Why, why can't I get some noodles with flavor around here?! Some THAI noodles!" Prayers answered. Spaghetti Cat, meet Pad Thai cat - he will not be sending his plate back, except for seconds.

I love any place that makes great Pad Thai and sells it for around $7. This is the kind of place that Union Square needs.

Most of the restaraunts in the area are either pretentious sandwich shops or places that close down right after lunch. Sweet Ginger is neither of those things.

It's so new that we could still smell the paint when we went in. The atmosphere is very calming. The walls are a muted rusty orange with IKEA inspired light fixtures covering the walls. The lights are square but appear to have a set of boobs sticking out from them. I love that. It is a small place, but there is plenty of seating. It's good for groups of two or three people.

I was amazed at how quickly we received our food. We ordered Golden Triangles as an appetizer and it came out promptly. Just the right temperature and super tasty.

Our lunches came soon after. We both ordered pad thai and received a heaping amount. I have plenty saved for later tonight. YUM.

Their menu is 4 pages long and they have variations on each dish which is good for mixing up your favorites.

It was delicious and I will gladly be back there for lunch.

I guess I'll go ahead and throw another 5 star hat into the ring.  Why not?  Service was great. The portions are perfect.  The vegetables are remarkably fresh -- amazing.    The rice, impeccable.  The ambiance manages to strike a perfect balance between classy and casual.  The only strike in the minus column would be that I had to adjust myself and my chair so that I wasn't being constantly rained on by the little water fountain above me.  Maybe I should have mentioned it to someone but it was hardly a bother.  That aside, it was as close to perfect a Thai meal as I've had around these parts.  I could stand for a little more heat to some of the dishes they advertise as being spicy/hot -- but none of these dishes are lacking flavor.  These are clean, bright flavored meals without a trace of the greasiness that accompanies some Thai restaurants.

A welcome addition to Union Sq.  May you live long and prosper.

Knock. your. socks. off. good.  I'm a spicephene, and this place (when requested) will meet my fix. Ask for "extra spicy hot".  I recommend the Beef Green Curry with sticky rice, or, you can never go wrong with Pad Thai, especially theirs.  If you don't go outside the box, get the sweet and sour beef or chicken.  Hands down, great place.

I've been here for two meals already - once for lunch with a friend and once for dinner with my girlfriend. Both meals were excellent. I'd like to break down the various aspects of the dining experience, as I saw it.

Service: Service was very prompt and friendly. Drinks, appetizers, and entrees were served in reasonable amounts of time.

Atmosphere: Cozy and well decorated. It was spaced a little weirdly (tables at front, followed by chairs for people getting take-out, then more tables) but it doesn't affect the flow of the restaurant. The whole of the restaurant (including the bathroom) was very very clean. Quite appreciated.

Price: Price was acceptable. Comparable to other local restaurants. (Drinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert for two people came to about $24 for lunch, $38 for dinner - or $12/person for lunch and $17/person for dinner respectively).

Drinks: My girlfriend ordered the Thai Iced Tea and she thought it was excellent.

Appetizers: For lunch we had Golden Triangles (a curry mixture in wonton skins with pineapple sauce) and they were absolutely delicious. We were reduced to fighting over the scraps. An extra order was had to take home - they were that good.

For dinner we had the Vegetarian Rolls (mixed vegetables with pineapple sauce in a spring roll). They were also very tasty. The pineapple sauce is excellent - very sweet and complements the meal well.

Entrees: For lunch I had the Crispy Chicken Basil (Crispy Chicken sauteed with onions, bell peppers, and basil in a hot chili sauce) and it was absolutely delicious. Had a good kick to it with some sweet after flavor. I'm excited to get this again.

My friend got Teriyaki Steak (a full grilled sirloin steak in Teriyaki sauce with sauteed vegetables) and he found it to be excellent.

Both of the lunch entrees were served with white, steamed, rice.

For dinner I had the Sweet Ginger B.B.Q. Pork and it was absolutely delicious. It was cooked very well and tasty quite sweet - marinated perfectly. I was reduced to saving a couple pieces to take home just so that I could enjoy it some more later. It came with some excellent peanut sauce and a cucumber salad.

My girlfriend had the Rama Shower (Grilled chicken with coconut milk on top of some steamed vegetables - covered with peanut sauce) and she, also, found it to be delicious.

We both got brown rice with our meals.

Dessert: For dessert we got a bowl of fried ice cream. It was vanilla ice cream with a typical fried covering. Topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Delicious and promptly devoured.

I have yet to find a miss at this restaurant. I wish I could express how happy I am that this has moved in here. Union Square has been dying for an (at the very least) acceptable Asian-food restaurant and this has come and far surpassed that goal. I plan on coming here as much as I physically can.
