I went today with one of my best friends.

We agree that it was alright, but we'll stick to our Phileo Yogurt.
Just like Phileo, SE is 49 cents an ounce.
Except the store doesn't have a lot of different froyo flavors (and a bit sour but i like it) and there are few toppings compared to Phileo.. but what SE got on Phileo is MANGOESSSSSS = love love love
the store is cute.

You know I'm back tracking when I mention the awesome show that was Kurt Vile & the Violators in Rittenhouse Square in a review. But while I was on the way to such epicness I came to the conclusion that I needed a Sweet Ending to go along with such a cool beginning. But alas, I only found here to deliver a decent middle.

Maybe it's because I need to teach myself to quit appeasing my love for chocolate so much when ordering Froyo. But I found I found everything else like the green tea flavored yogurt and nuts to be somewhat irregular. And that only led to me only feeling half fulfilled. So apparently I either need to try it a little more healthier next time around, or I REALLY need to get my butt to Yogorino so I can complete the Philly frozen yogurt trifecta (all I know about PINKBERRY is that I refuse to call it that). Good thing there's always  room for yogurt :D

To be continued?

Yes - the texture & temperature of the froyo is inconsistent.  Yes - Yogorino is much creamier.

BUT - Sweet Ending has tons of toppings (added cereals & syrups), friendly service & new flavors.

AND - on my last trip they had **BLACK SESAME** frozen yogurt.  I mixed that in with some green tea & topped with mochi & mango.  The cup in the picture cost $3.50.  AMAZING... the black sesame is less tart, more earthy and reminds me of Japan.

My bf mixed up a messy concoction of strawberry, vanilla, green tea yogurt with strawberries, mangoes, mochi, sprinkles & raspberries - he called it the beauty of diy yogurt.  His overflowing disaster in a cup ran $5.50.

For location, price & the joy of experimentation, we'll definitely be back.

They also added frequent buyer cards - 11th yogurt is free.

Fro-yo in Philly? Yes. I was excited when I walked by this the day it opened and had to stop in for a taste. I wasn't disappointed =] The flavors change, which is cool, but I like consistency. The toppings they have are endless and even though its no Pinkberry or Red Mango, it is quality fro-yo. I approve.

Ok, Sweet Ending has had its share of opening problems but by now this place seems to have gotten into its groove.  The tart, refreshing yogurt has a good consistency, the flavors and toppings are all great, and I'm in love with the freedom of their self-serve setup.

I think their plain yogurt is just as good as yogorino's, and the fact that they have so much more variety makes this place the winner in a head-to-head competition.  The watermelon yogurt was not too sweet, and the black sesame was creamy, odd, and all-around awesome.

The thing I like most about SE is the self-serve aspect; it gives me a real liberated feeling.  Normal rules of portion size and the number of flavors or toppings per order no longer apply.  It's like living in a dream world where it's socially acceptable to go out in public not wearing pants.  Take as much or as little as you want, one flavor or eight, no toppings, all the toppings, or even skip the yogurt entirely and get just a cup filled with the mochi.  Freedom of choice is a beautiful thing.

Hm, the reactions here aren't as positive as I was expecting! I really like Sweet Ending-- not only the layout/idea of the place, which is self-service, but also the consistency and taste of the yogurt. In comparison with Yogorino, I'm a greater fan of Sweet Ending because the yogurt has a bit of tartness to the flavor, more Pinkberry-esque/Red Mango-esque, for my California yogurt buddies. They offer a variety of yogurt flavors (I've seen taro, green tea, coffee, and strawberry among them) but my default is still plain. Toppings are diverse and plentiful. My recommendation: if you haven't tried mochi, give it a shot. They're super yummy and chewy! Seating here can be awkward (along counters) and not available during busy hours, but otherwise I'm satisfied with my Philly fro yo. :-)

My purchase: a mix of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla yogurts with chocolate syrup, raspberries, strawberries and almonds on top.

Although this concoction made for a refreshing treat on a late summer afternoon, I was immediately disappointed by the icy consistency of the yogurt.  It was seriously lacking in creaminess and flavor, becoming watery as it melted.  I wished they had more topping selections, and was nonplussed by the plain white sliced (not toasted?) almonds.

On the plus side:  As a control freak who likes to sample multiple options, I love the self-serve setup.  I also give them kudos for the fresh fruit toppings; so many ice cream places just use frozen.

Bottom line: I'd eat it again, but I'll keep looking for better!

Finally a Pinkberry-esque fro-yo place in Philly!

Sadly the quality here isn't quite Pinkberry-esque, but I love the ability to serve myself instead of taking whatever amount of stuff that they give you-you can get as more or as little as you would like. That in itself is very important to me, worth an entire star. The staff tries to keep the shop clean and organized, and the cashiers are very helpful if you are new to the whole fro-yo thing. The place can get crowded on a nice day and the seating is very limited, so your best bet is to get a good amount that you can walk with.

I love Fro-yo- a sweet concotion that deceivingly makes me believe that I'm being healthy. Having grown up on the west coast, where there's a fro-yo joint on every corner, I am beyond thrilled to see the fro-yo movement on the east coast.

Sweet ending (super sweet name), however is beyond disappointing. The vanilla yogurt (yes I'm being boring) had a slighly icey consistency and a sour taste to it. Creamy and sweet- ahh no not really... I mixed in some strawberry and chocolate chips, which made the yogurt only taste slightly better. Of course I'm a ginormous pig and polished off my whole cup of disappointing fro-yo. I think its worth a try, but prepare to be disappointed!

Presenting The Great Fro-Yo Face-Off 2009:

So, I finally got past giggling at Sweet Ending's name (after hearing of Tangysweet and Mr. Yogato in DC) and tried it. The yogurt selection is in between Phileo and Yogorino in terms of numbers and it's all self-serve. I got the original and strawberry flavors, with a clear line of demarcation in my cup. I kept the number of toppings low, and dug into the original sans accoutrements first. My overall assessment was a general feeling of 'yum'.

The guy at the counter was very enthusiastic about the yogurt. Like, really enthusiastic. Then there was a lot of sitting in the window on the weirdly shaped stools/chairs, people-watching.

Sweet Ending: 4 stars, maybe even 4.5. So far, the Philly winner for frozen yogurt in my book.

Its the Seraglio equivalent of my tongue's sexcapades.

Clearly, I realized with contempt the blatant avarice and uniformity of my former froyo lovers in New York, as the 8 or 9 flavors stood in front of me, inviting me to try that which the day prior was unthinkable; Pistacho froyo, Peanut Butter froyo, Strawberry froyo.. Ah! What a fool I was to believe that only the old and trusted "standard" flavor was viable for a wet quicky. The green tea alternative offered in Red Mango, Flurt, et al was a ruse to hide the existence of a myriad of unthinkable possibilities denied to my horny palate.

Jettisoned into my cup, 5 different flavors and as MANY toppings as I desired (and twice as many options as well); I pampered my selections with a shower of coconut flakes, mochi and kiwi and then...

... you get to pay by the pound.

Oh yes! The price came to be as much as the petty standard we know so well. And now I know that I must never turn a blind eye to my visceral distrust to uniformity, mass frenzy and shy supply. A universe of options is what really must exist.

The only reproach is the bitter truth that lies behind Sweet Ending's name; to finish my sweet seraglio was anything but sweet; I want this to be a always a beginning rather than an end.

Oh wow... A frozen yogurt bar done completely half-assed...

I was so stoked for this place to open. It's located right down the street from where I work, and when it was gearing up for the grand opening I would walk past it almost every day and dream of the day when I would be able to walk one block up and treat myself to some fro-yo.

The day that it opened, just like every other person in the general area, I popped into Sweet Ending and grabbed a small cup of vanilla frozen yogurt with crumbled Oreo cookies. I love frozen yogurt because it is ice cream's lighter and healthier stepsister, but I like my frozen yogurt to taste more like ice cream and less like somebody dumped a container of Dannon in the freezer for five hours and then put it in a soft serve machine. I actually have a visual of some evil supervillain, complete with curly, villainous mustache, doing this and twisting his mustache with his fingertips while saying "They'll be none the wiser!" and laughing maniacally.

What a psych-out this place was, and psyching people up for frozen yogurt only to let them down with a bad product is just plain mean. It's like giving a little kid a cookie that tastes like brussel sprouts or something. I never thought I'd see the day when I took a bite of frozen yogurt and made the "yuck" face. The day I went to Sweet Ending was that day. This place is nothing but the poor man's Phileo, and Phileo doesn't even knock my socks off.

Sweet Ending was very close to my hotel, so I ended up stopping in several times during my most recent long weekend in Philly (I've got a huge sweet tooth and fro yo is one my my favorite fixes).

The yogurt here is good. Not amazing but certainly not bad. I really liked the pink guava, strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla flavors. The plain wasn't as tangy as I like. The coffee flavor wasn't good--it tasted more sour than tangy.

I liked the ability to serve myself--that way I could create the perfect mix of flavors and toppings to suit my mood.

Pricey, but what trendy yogurt shop isn't?

Quite an interesting concept and pardon my excitement, but I'm from chicago where we don't have self-serve fro-yo!

Love the variety of flavors (again, we usually only have 2-3) and the toppings were fresh and plentiful. Also appreciated the concept of pay-by-weight instead of trying to decide between just 3 sizes of cups.

I had the mango, chocolate and vanilla with almond and coconut.

Why is frozen yogurt so expensive?!  This new Philly trend is boggling me.  At $0.49/ounce, Sweet Ending is also a very expensive ending...even trying to be frugal comes out to over $4.

I ordered the green tea and original topped with slivered almonds and strawberries.  The original flavor was actually the most rich and complex in taste--however, as a yogurt aficionado, I am kind of biased toward a good unmasked plain yogurt that speaks for itself instead of other flavorings.  The green tea tasted nothing like green tea, more just slightly tangy.

Skip the toppings.  They will weigh your cup down and add weird staleness to your treat!

As a fro-yo fanatic, I was a little annoyed at the people incapable of comprehending how self-serve works in front of me in line. However, I'll try to keep my reviews focused on the fro-yo itself.

I usually go to Phileo, but I've found my fro-yo to be a bit icy on several occasions, so I decided to try "the other fro-yo place." The prices are exactly the same. I prefer the Sweet Endings space slightly more, because they have have more bar counter-style chairs facing out towards the street. Perfect for people-watching. However, Sweet Endings only wins in this aspect.

I found Sweet Endings to have similar problems of being a little too icy. Unfortunately though, Sweet Endings lack in variety of fro-yo flavors and toppings. Whereas Phileo has about 10+ flavors (including my favorite taro and lychee), Sweet Endings only has about 6. Sweet Endings also only has about 2/3 of the toppings Phileo has.

Unless Sweet Endings is in your neighborhood, I would def recommend Phileo over Sweet Endings.

Where are my frutti pebbles?! This is the only one up this place has on phileo, since phileo is so close to home.

It's a small little corner shop, where my favorite CC smoothie place used to be at. It has 6-8 flavors (I can't remember) and a variety of toppings (again, no frutti pebbles!!) but they had fresh fruit and mochi, so I was satisfied.

Cost was $.49/oz and again, it's very easy to fill that cup up to $5+. It satisfies your want and need for froyo but I wouldn't run here.

$2.50 for the perfect amount of desert? Yes please.

I don't know about you, but after a typical meal out I'm stuffed to the gills. I rarely have room for your usual, over-sized portion of desert, but I always crave a little something light and sweet.

At this frozen yogurt spot (where it actually tastes like yogurt, not just that healthier, not-quite-soft-serve-ice-cream garbage) you pay by weight. This means you can get exactly the amount you want. You can go all out with multiple flavors and toppings and spend 8 bucks, or you can get that $2.50 bite to cleanse your palate.

Next time you eat out around Rittenhouse, check this place out afterward.

The best part about having a significant other who loves frozen dairy is the fact that its super easy to convince him to stop and eat it.  Even after a delicious brunch.   Even before we had to go to Capogiro again, i convinced him tos top here, because "we had to try it".

So i REALLY like that its pay as you go.   I only wanted a little taste, not a whole big serving.  I opted for the "originial" but was really tempted by the chocolate, green tea and four different fruit flavors.   I also could have gotten reeses if that interested me (but it didn't).   Then i got to add all the toppings i wanted!  2 or 3 or 15!  I love having the option.

As we approached the counter i decided to pay for mine and jeff's (since he sprung from brunch and all).  For both of us... 5.00!   Of course we both got small servings, but still!  FIVE BUCKS!  Not a bad deal at all!

The yogurt itself was particularly tart and metled easily, which wasn't awesome.   However, i loved all the options and the fact i could basically create my own delicious treat.   Definitely worth coming back here... if i'm in philly... and can tear jeff away from capogrio!

The froyo craze is now hitting Philly...?

Not impressed. Sure, this place has multiple different flavors (green tea, original, pineapple, strawberry, and a few others), and a bar of serve yourself toppings--that in and of itself is great. What got to me was the watery texture of the yogurt and the fruit flies whizzing around the strawberry topping. Which brings me to: It's summatime! Where's the fresh fruit?!

I love the concept of self-serve frozen yogurt with a self-serve topping bar, and I love that Sweet Ending is open late for when sweet cravings hit. I stopped by as I was walking around Center City on a sweltering day because I needed something cold. Turns out, it was too cold -- my mouth went numb every time I took a bite, and I had to do the weird thing that you do when you burn your mouth, where you drop your jaw and let the steam escape and kind of hold the food off your tongue. I've never had to do it with something cold. Even after it melted in the sun, it was freezing. It's kind of a weird complaint, but also a really weird thing to experience.

I got a small (12oz.) cup, filled it halfway with pineapple froyo, half with original. I topped it with choco chips, blueberries, pineapple and coconut. The original flavor tasted too much like regular yogurt. That was on the rare spoonfuls I could taste anything through the icy chill.

Seriously, why is this stuff so insanely cold?

I can't tell you how hard it was for me to avoid a "happy ending" reference when I saw this place, but I digress.  It's do-it-yourself FroYo with a selection of 4 or 5 different yogurt flavors.  You can mix and match as you like, as well as put whatever combo of however many toppings you want, and then pay by weight.  Since you're dispensing the yogurt yourself, it's your own fault if you get the dreaded yogi hole!  I really like the self-serve aspect and wish some places in DC would adopt this.  Few things are as annoying as watching a little asian girl spend 35 seconds trying to meticulously place a single blackberry onto a spire of yogurt while you stand there craving your cold, tangy dessert.  It's also annoying that at most places you pay such a premium to get more than one topping so I like that I can mix it up and not get charged a crazy fee for it.

The toppings selection is minimal, and several of the fruits I saw looked unfresh, despite arriving shortly after they opened for the day.  At least the mochi was in fresh supply.  The yogurt here was kinda watery and icy, and pretty much my least favorite of all the frozen yogurt I've had.  But for the low price and convenience, it's really hard to go wrong here.

so i went to phileo for the first time yesterday, and unfortunately, i have to take away a star from Sweet Ending. comparing the two, phileo has a larger selection of inventive flavors and a greater variety of toppings. Sweet Ending has only 6 flavors at a time and about half that amount of toppings. phileo has more asian flavors like taro and lychee, which i thought were great.

so i'll still go to Sweet Ending, but it will be because of i can't get to phileo.

I like frozen yogurt.  I like Sweet Ending's variety of flavors.  I like the control I'm offered here as opposed to other fro-yo places where I might pay $1 for a topping and only get a teaspoon's worth.

But it still lacks what other fro-yo places have.  Because it's self-serve and by weight, I can't sample a flavor before I commit to it.  There's also a relatively small amount of toppings available.  And in the end, I paid just as much as I would have had at other places for a similar amount but without service with a smile from someone making my fro-yo.

Mehh.

Pink guava fro-yo.  I dream about it.  It's best with pieces of watermelon that freeze in the fro-yo and become little refreshing popsicles of sweetness.  In the winter months they plan to serve Belgian-style waffles with a choice of toppings.  Congratulations, you've earned your fifth star.

The only fro-yo I know is the one from red-mango. I swang by this joint last night while walking home from dance class.
Twas after 9pm. I didn't know how things worked so my friend had to explain it.

I got the pomegranate, vanilla and a bit of strawberry. I topped it with graham crackers- MY FAVVVV with some coconut flakes.
I was gonna do the other stuff (fruits) BUT they had like those little flying things (that I have also at my home and i find them SUPER annoying and kill them every chance I get ) flying all over the self-serve topping area and they were feeding on the fruits. I was like "oh...hellz to da naw, I don't want none"
So I stayed with my graham crackers. Weird cause the person behind the counter did NOT seem to mind the flying things flying all over the fruits which is weird cause that is NOT normal...right?

I enjoyed the taste of the flavors and I didn't get a lot which is good because I pay for just what I want..no extras. Twas less than $2 and you can't beat that with a bat.

(sidebar-I was typing this review and I got a phone call and I accidentally hit a button that basically took away my page..well today I come back and Viola...my review was  "auto-saved" COOOL BEANS..so I'm allowed to continue.  I was pissed yesterday and refused to retype it.)

Froyo again?
Yep, my hubbie is addicted. They should start a froyo addict club. He was craving this ever since we left CA for Philly and well we found one in  downtown Philly. Nice selection of the usual flavors of original, pomegranite, vanilla, etc. There wasn't a large selection of toppings like Nubi in the bay area, but they did have mochi! Went here 2 days in a row and the prices are reasonable.

A cheaper and healthier alternative to its across the street neighbor Scoop de Ville, though with a much less creative name. It's cold and sweet and tasty as all fro-yo ought to be, but having fallen in love with South Philly's Phileo Yogurt on South Street, I was a bit disappointed to find this frozen treat palace nearer to my apartment carrying neither as many yogurt flavors nor as many toppings. The healthier toppings (fruits) outweighed the bad for you toppings (cookies, candy, etc).

I mixed a little bit of strawberry yogurt with way more green tea yogurt and topped it with granola, strawberries and blueberries -- delightful! And economically sound. Definitely a dessert I can get behind.
Will go back to try the Reese's PB fro-yo. Yum!

I didn't think the supreme location at 18th and Chestnut would be empty for long - Sweet Ending snagged it and opened the store-du-jour: a frozen yogurt joint.  The place looks cutesy enough - although at lunch-time today it was sort of erratic.

There were a few people behind the scenes and just one cashier.  The space was kind of a free-for all lacking proper organization or flow - with a tub o' styrofoam cups on one side, toppings on the other and the back framed with the yogurt dispensing machines.

For right now they've got slips of paper with permanent marker hastily announcing flavors and types of toppings.  It was a mad dash of people tasting the flavors and trying to create their own concoction.  After I threw a few elbows, I got mine.  A mix of tart (that balanced the crazy sweetness of the other two), mango and strawberry. I skipped the toppings because they just looked depressing. (gummi bears? no thanks).

Frozen yogurt was fine, it didn't knock my socks off, but I've yet to find a frozen creamy product (I'm avoiding the obvious joke here) that is not ice cream, that can.  Like the rest of these places (and those shady salad bars), you pay by weight (49 cents per oz) - two small cups for a friend and I, cost $5 and change.

I am totally addicted to this place.  The fact that I could create my own was wonderful.  I love their vanilla and tropical fruit yogurt with granola and coconut.

The prices seem fairly reasonable as long as you don't go overboard.  My cup of of yogurt tends to run around $3.50, including toppings.  For Center City, that's a decent price for a treat.

My experience here was very poor. As others have mentioned, I felt the yogurt had an icy and watery consistency. The flavors I tried, chocolate and coffee, were not very well-defined or impressive to me. The aesthetics of the shop might have been pleasant when freshly cleaned, but at the time I visited there were fair helpings of grime and dirt everywhere. Service was friendly, however.

Well, they gutted the old Raindrop Cafe (thank god!). Sweet ending is a cute concept and since we don't have a PINKBERRY (or Red Mango) nearby and I had a BOGO (free) coupon, I caved.

You pay $0.49 per oz and can dispense your own self-serve fro-yo (very tart BTW) and toppings.

The yogurt was meh - but the fruit toppings were good.

Place is brand spanking new and clean - but not nearly as good tasting as pinkberry or red mango.

I predict it will fail in the long run.  Philly people won;t like this very acidic yogurt.  Service was good though and with the BOGO I got 2 small cups of yogurt with toppings for $2.18.

Oh - and the name reminds me of "Happy Endings" which kinda grosses me out - but if i can snag another coupon I'll get over it.

I wish them luck.  There gonna need it.
I much prefer the sorbetto at Capogiro (but that is not even a fair comparisson).

Maybe it's because of the West Coast bias but I've had better yogurt for sure. Going during the twilight hours I decided to get a nice desert but I feel that this place is inferior to places like Yogurt Land or Pinkberry. The line wasn't long at all but people who take forever in getting their yogurt should at least be helpful by standing aside for others to go through. There was only 1 cashier also so things were even slower than normal but I do admit that the place looks nice to the eyes from the outside.

Now to the yogurt, normally yogurt is suppose to be a healthy food but my experience felt otherwise. I couldn't finish what I had because the stuff was so high in sugar. I wasn't expecting the yogurt to melt so fast either especially considering how cold it is outside either. I do like the fact that this place is a little cheaper but why come here when there are other places that are better and run more efficiently?

When I was a kid, i used to have mini child anxiety attacks when Country Time Lemon aid would start airing their commercials about how summer was ending. It wasn't that i hated to go back to school, but how much I would miss childhood summers of sleeping late, swimming until your fingers looked like peas, bare feet and firefly nights with Popsicles. Just like childhood, carefree summers are finite.
Just like Puff the magic dragon retreating to his cave, I passed into the world of 9-5 summers with the envious view of tired swam out children as I drove home in my collerd shirt.
Fast forward....and I move to Philly, and a new reason to celebrate the uniqueness of summer. Between the kids going home from college and the amount of folks who flee to the shore each weekend, you get the whole damn city to yourself. walking into trendy restaurants sands reservation and being seated right away, or getting your pick of seats at your favorite bar, Philadelphia in the summer is a virtual carnival for a food/drink junkie. Alas...I go out on Friday, and the drizzly streets are filled with kids dressed to the nines. there is a line at all my favorite spots, plus I'm not dressed to impress. a couple of looks through a couple of doorways and realised it was a lost cause, maybe a dessert before heading home.
Sweet Ending was just the ticket, Chill place with a not overwhelming but varied selection of fro yo. I don't know much about yogurt treats but I select the original flavor, and really enjoyed its sweet and sour mix. The counter faces the window so I had a perfect view of another summer passing and it's bittersweet ending.

I love everything except that the custard tastes a little sour.  I've worked at places that serve custard, and it's very easy to contaminate a machine.  These machines need to be cleaned often and reloaded carefully for good quality custard.

My husband and I wanted ice cream after eating dinner at home, so we walked down to Rittenhouse intending on stopping at Ben and Jerry's. But, we realized it's not there anymore. Huh.

We kept passing people with cups of what appeared to be ice cream, and then we found where they were coming from -- Sweet Endings. We crossed the street and walked in, not knowing anything about the place.

Right away we saw this was not your usual ice cream place. Then I saw that it wasn't ice cream at all, it was frozen yogurt. I had strawberry and put a tiny bit of crushed Oreos on mine. My husband had chocolate.

We walked down to the park and ate it. Our consensus was that it was "just okay." It tasted acidic, like something was off. The toppings didn't quite fit; I would have enjoyed mine more if I hadn't put Oreos on it. I doubt we'll be back. I really like the self serve concept, though.

On the plus side, our desserts were probably only 100 calories each...

I've only been here once and I was not blown away. I heard their yogurt would be organic and made from local ingredients, however, they had very average flavors including reeses peanut butter cup (what's organic about that?).  I didn't love my yogurt but I'm willing to give it another shot next time I'm picking up some groceries at Di Bruno Brothers on a hot day.  For a few extra calories (by a few, I mean a lot), go to Capogiro around the corner for really good gelato.

I went here today (7/3/09) for the first time and, although I enjoyed the yogurt, I probably won't be going back. This place has a nice, trendy atmosphere and a wide selection of yogurts and toppings. The yogurts themselves taste fresh and are pretty good, but nothing really special. The topping bar was pretty big, although they seemed to be missing a few basics like M&Ms, graham cracker bits, etc.

My biggest problem with the place was the outrageous price. I can understand charging $8.50/lb. if you've got the best yogurt in town, but I really don't think the yogurt served at Sweet Ending justifies the price. Now some people might point out that you're not going to eat a whole pound, which is true. But when you get the medium or large size cups you can easily add quite a bit of weight because of the density of the yogurt.

Just be aware that you'll probably spend at least $5-6 for a cup of pretty average yogurt here.

I liked this place! I tried the vanilla fro-yo with little white mochi pieces (a MUST add), oreo cookie chunks, fresh mango and strawberry bits. It was yummy and light.
