Got a "deluxe" room with a fireplace here, still pretty reasonable, a little less than $100. Very nice room. I recommend _not_ leaving the fireplace on all night. Seems romantic, gets hot! (And there was only an "on or off" switch, like a lightswitch, so couldn't adjust the intensity.)
Still, I thought this was a very charming place for an overnight Solvang adventure. When calling to make the reservation, I asked for a room with a nice view and got it. Solvang village was just across the street. A nice memory, and I was sorry to leave.
We got a very reasonably priced room with an AAA discount. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful. They told us of a good restaurant nearby having a buy one dinner get one free promotion.
The room was good sized had double beds and a kind of kitschy electric fireplace in the corner. Very clean and the beds were comfortable. Hair dryer, Microwave, fridge, ironing board and coffee maker.
The "breakfast" was a bagel or danish, oatmeal packet and orange juice or coffee/tea. Not wonderful but sufficient.
Plenty of parking and walking distance to pretty much everything.
Would definitely stay there again.
Hmmm...should I give a budget motel 4 stars? Shouldn't 4 stars be reserved for Marriots and Hiltons, and 5 stars for the Ritz? I don't know what to do, but since yelp says that 3 stars means A-0k, I'm giving this lodging 3 solid stars.
First off, it's an older property and is now affiliated with the budget chain "America's Best Value Inns"...so I guess it's officially a place for people interested in saving a few bucks while avoiding "motel hell". The room I had was very small, one queen bed, and one of the lowest priced rooms in the area on this particular weeknight. It was just a bed, an older tv, A/C, electric heat, and came with a small microwave and fridge and a coffee pot with coffee and some foam cups. "Free Breakfast" was just danish, apples and paper-packets of oatmeal. The bathroom was average size and the best part about Svendsgaard's was that the room, though showing it's age, was spotlessly clean and fresh. All the employees seemed very nice except for the one who guards the danish pastries with her life. The only real complaint that I would have is that the doors are very loud. And since it's 3 miles from a casino, people tend to come in late at night. And it seems that nobody has any courtesy these days so they're slamming doors right and left all night long. Also, because of said casino, Solvang has become a thoroughfare of sorts for every delivery truck and bus beginning at about 7:00 in the mornings, and this motel is - like most others in town, right on the noisy main drag. Bring earplugs.
Note: NOT a 4 star hotel in normal terms. It's your no fancy frills hotel, but given the area and my research on it, I think 4 stars is warranted...
We stayed here on a holiday weekend (Valentine's/Presidents' Day) and paid more than I would have liked to, but I think it was reasonable given the location. We had a GIANT room with lots of windows, an (electric) fireplace, and the micro/fridge/full bath.
Prime location, easy to find, friendly staff.
The continental breakfast is just what is sounds like, nothing fancy, BUT they will bring you up a tray of whatever you wish right to your room so if/when you're hungover from the night before, you can get a little noshing in before you hit the town (or see the cruel, cruel light of day).
My only complaint was that the drain in the shower was not at its best and by the end of the shower we were left standing in a couple inches of water. But hopefully that's a one time deal thing only.
This place stands out in that it is a decently priced place amidst the other arm/leg charging places in the sleepy tourist town of Solvang.
For 147 a night you get a king size bed, a fire place, two recliners, a small area with a microwave, fridge, and closet space as well as a full bath.
I enjoyed staying here as it was on the main street, but did not have the noise that usually comes with staying on the main street of a town.
Within a short walk you get to hit all the shops and restaurants as well as some of the local wine tasting places in town. If you like big city living, I would not recommend coming here as the town goes to sleep at about 7 pm and you will be hard pressed to find a place that is open late. HOWEVER, if you are about escaping and getting away to a small town and collecting your wits, make sure you stop at this place. YOu can skip the breakfast here and talk a walk to the local bakeries that serve delish artery clogging fare at decent to absurd prices!!
