South Valley BBQ and Lounge

Based on the reviews, I was bracing myself for a disappointing meal, but I was actually thrilled with my food. I ordered the bbq sampler platter which consisted of 2 baby back ribs, 2 St. Louis style ribs, 2 bbq chicken wings, one slice of brisket, chopped pulled pork and 2 sides. For your sides, you can choose steamed vegetables, creamed spinach, fries, Mac and cheese, onion rings and many more! I chose the Mac and cheese and the steamed vegetables - both were had a garlic flavor which was a big +. My ribs had a nice seasoning and was not too dry nor too wet. Perfect enough to add one of the sauces. Although the sauces weren't my favorite, they were at least decent enough for me to want to use. I liked the sweet habanero one for the ribs and chicken and the vinegar sauce for the pulled pork. The platter is $27, but is good enough for 2 or 3 meals!

I see from yelp that this place is a hit or miss. So I will update my review the next time I come. I may change my mind about this restaurant.

I left a review before the wait staff are young beautiful girls that are fast on their feet. They are fast and efficient. There are 3 different rooms one is where the party is at the others are seating for dinner and drinks I believe there are 3 different bars there. The house was packed on the last Saturday night. Birthday celebrations a table where there were candies and pretzels for the guest of the birthday people. Yum.

The service was HORRIBLE! The bar tenders had nasty attitudes . When I first walked in with my friend we sat at the bar and the bartender came over and threw menus at us without saying "hi how are you ladies tonight " nothing . We waited for her to make our drinks and she forgot to make them then when she did it was nasty ASF ! I'm never going back here again .

Pros: the food is really good

The West Orange Chopped Salad with the Balsamic Honey Vinaigrette dressing is absolutely fantastic!

I've been coming here for a couple of months under the new ownership. The food is delicious. The happy hour menu is great. It's close to home, so my husband and I love to just drop by after work. They have Comedy night and Karaoke Wed and Thursday.
Also they built and outside space which is awesome.
Over all the drinks and food are bothe delicious!

This is a scathing one star review but I want it know that while the rest of our experience was abysmal, that our server Jessica was lovely.

Waited at the host stand just to to be ignored. Finally, a gent told us to sit anywhere. Which is annoying after being ignored , but hey, it's a Friday...it happens if. We sat ourselves, waited several minutes for menus to arrive (Sans a specials menu..small oversight but I guess it should have been telling) The service at the bar was terrible and slow. We ordered a glass of wine and a white claw. Which took forever to arrive. If things are busy, it's understandable to be delayed. However this evening, it wasn't busy nor did we order hard to make drinks.

The sandwich we were served (see photo below) is worthy of a school lunch line (there were more fries but they were eaten since that was the only decent part of the meal)

I hate leaving Kareny reviews since everyone is out there trying their best, but this was so bad I had to do it.

I did, however, enjoy their veggie spring rolls. A surprisingly delicious starter at a bbq place! And like I said earlier, our server Jessica is an absolute gem, out there doing her best while working with a bunch of bobos

Business is under new ownership. Still working out kinks.
The online menu lists items no longer available.
No delivery available despite what the website says.
Our take out order was generally in order. However several garnishes were missing.
The ribs were delicious but not baby back as requested. We also got a garden salad that was very good.
Overall the prices are high. The food is average. Service and staff very friendly.
We will continue to support and look for improvements in website content as well as attention to getting the food order on target.

My sister and I decided to get a drink and this spot was open. When we arrived I parked in their private lot. When we walked in the server Lisa said to give her a minute because she was alone. She finally sat us close to the bar. She was running around to all the tables because they had her working solo. When she got to us I ordered a Titos and tonic and she ordered a remy and coke. I had to send my drink back because there was something floating in it. The other one was fine.

I asked for the check shortly after and she told me the price. I asked for a printed check and she gave it to me and apologized for not being as attentive. We understood. The bill came to $31. Will I be back? Not sure

We've been meaning to try this place for some time. We moved to the Neighborhood and always see it in passing.

My husband and I went for dinner. It was about 7:30pm. Due to Covid I'm assuming the place doesn't get packed. The place is really big but looks dated. We were greeted by a woman who was polite and professional. She asked that we sit where we like. She took our drink orders and recommended we try the Fried Brisket Egg Rolls. Good call on those, they were really good. My husband ordered the Buffalo wings. Nothing to rave about. They were seasoned ok. Not deliciously good and not nasty either. I wish they would had fried them some more though. The Waitress emphasized how good the Blue cheese was here and it was ok in my opinion.

Moving on to Entrees....

I ordered a Full Rack of Baby Ribs with a side order of Mac and Cheese and Collard Greens. My husband ordered the Short Rib Sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries.

Before our orders came out, the Waiter, because the Waitress ended her shift, brought out all of the signature BBQ sauces. I was eager to sample all of them. He also brought us another round of of Angry Orchard Beers in a Bottle. He accommodated my husband by changing the TV to the Football game. He was very friendly and professional. Our food came out really fast surprisingly.

The Ribs were not hot in temperature. They almost tasted as if they had been sitting there all day. They didn't overwhelm me with taste but I figured its all about the sauce. I poured the first sample of bbq sauce which by the way come in little plastic containers with lids on them and I was disgusted. The bbq sauces were all refrigerator cold. So great... now im pouring cold bbq sauce on not so warm ribs. Honestly I didn't like any of the BBQ sauces. Some were too sweet and some way too watery or thick. There wasn't a middle ground. The only one that kind of passed the test was the Molasses and I really wish they would have brushed it on and warmed them up in the oven before putting them on a my table. The Collard Greens had way too much Vinegar. How can you mess up Collard Greens? They were cut really big too. The Mac and Cheese was good. It was rich and creamy.

My husband found his sandwich to be good. It looked nicely pressed with melted cheese and ribs on a sourdough bread, although from a distance, you can tell his bread was pressed in lots of butter. His Sweet Potato Fried were perfect but you can tell they're Frozen.

During our dining experience some guy, a patron, was having an argument really loudly with someone on the phone and the workers never bothered to tell him to take his phone call outside. This was very annoying as we just wanted a peaceful meal for Date Night after a long work Week.

Overall the experience wasn't memorable. I think one star was more for Waitress and the Waiter who moved quickly and were friendly. The other star was for the Mac and Cheese and Egg roll. Everything else was Blah.... We wont be returning or recommending this place.

My experience with this place I ordered something the order wasn't good I went back on a different night I spoke with the manager the manager John rectify the issue correct the issue offer to give me my money back I told him no I didn't want the money back I want what I ordered my server was Carlotta everything about her was professional these guys did everything professional my food was what I ordered I love everything about it I give five stars for that

Terrible!!!! If I can give this zero stars I would. I was visiting my family and was looking for some food in the area. My cousin did warn me that the food can be a hit or a miss. It was certainly a miss this day. I ordered ribs and sides for the whole family. The ribs were sooooo hard, tough and BLAND. They were inedible. The cream spinach was trash! Literally the only that that tasted good was the baked beans. I don't have much else to say about this establishment. I won't be returning if I'm in the Jersey area
