I have a brand new bicycle from Public Bikes, and I'd like people to keep their grubby paws off of it.  Looky, but no touchy!

I wanted to do some shopping in the Union Square area, but sure as hell wasn't about to leave my bike locked on a pole on the street. I knew someone who did that to quickly duck into Macy's, and their bike was totally stolen in broad daylight!

So, knowing that the Sutter/Stockton garage has always served my Union Square parking needs as a driver, I called them to ask if they had bicycle parking.  Turns out they have three bike racks, and very nice the guy I spoke with told me the *best* bike rack to use was the one on the second floor, right across from the cashier station. The entrance to the second floor is on Stockton street, right where the Stockton Street Tunnel begins.

I actually feel pretty safe locking up my bike there.  I still use the u-lock and a cable, but the fact that the bike rack is in view of the cashiers is a pretty good theft deterrent :)

    oh sutter-stockton garage (ssg)...
i enjoy parking my vehicle(s) here [not at the same time btw]
it's convenient and the prices are reasonable [at least for sf standards]

    there are two entrances:
    (1) stockton street [right off sutter street...]
    (2) bush street [near grant avenue...]

i like the bush street entrance.
not sure why, just a creature of habit i guess.
lately, there has been construction on bush street...blah.

there are about 12 floors of parking.
each floor is interconnected by these spiraling circles.
one could get dizzy if you are racing up these ala "starsky and hutch".

lemme just say i don't advise racing up these circle ramps.
    the blind spot is apparent.
if someone slows down or stops completely, wham!

your front bumper will not like it.
okay...onward...there are two sets of elevators.
    yes two...

the first one is slooowwww, and that would be the sutter street one.
the second (and bestest) elevator is the rapid express on stockton.
it if very fast. no kidding. try it out and you'll see.

like most big parking garages nowadays, u have to prepay b4 u leave.
don't get stuck trying to leave without prepaying.
you'll get death stares from everyone behind you shifting in reverse.

also, becareful of demagnitizing your ticket's magnetic strip.
apparently, cell phones can demagnitize this ticket.
i found out the hard way.

    i prepaid at the kiosk...
slipped the ticket in my pocket that i share with my iphone...
the toll-gate wouldn't unfold for me to leave...

i had an elderly couple behind me honking...
and sorta yelling...was that cursing too?
    that wasn't very nice btw

there is security throughout the parking garage.
    that is a good thing.
    especially at night.

depending on where you are parking your vehicle...
you can get some interesting views from the parking level openings...
you can view stockton street, sutter street, bush street.

they are opened 24 hours for your parking needs.
oh ssg, thank you for existing.

A great parking space in San Francisco can bring a grown man to tears! This is the only city I have ever been to where I have changed my plans because I couldn't find a parking space! So of course parking garages downtown are pretty expensive, but not here! $3 an hour in a safe area right next to china town and only a few blocks from union square! And there is always enough spaces!

Best garage downtown SF, hands down!

Sometimes I don't feel like walking 6+ blocks from my tenderloin garage to where I need to be,so I come and park here.

Best rates in the area $3 per hour and high speed elevators.

Review a parking garage?  F yeah, when it has the best overnight rate in the whole namn deighborhood.  Briefly: most structures around union square charge you by the hour and max you out at some obscene rate, even if that means you come in for the night and leave in the morning, when the garage least needs the space.  But the Sutter-Stockton garage gives you a rate of $2/ hr from 5pm to 8am and here's the best part: that maxes out at $8.

Also, it's kind of cool design wise, for all you architects and civil engineers out there... entrances and exits on multiple levels to multiple streets, and pretty darn amazingly high speed elevators - which they clearly label as such lest you somehow fail to notice the pit of your stomach being left on the previously visited level.

Best. Parking. Garage. Around. Union. Square. Period!

Conveniently located within walking distance to most spots in the area, that is if you aren't a lazy ass.  Plus, it's two blocks from my watering hole aka The Cantina.

8$ parking all night on the weekends, can't really complain about that, when a parking garage down the street is doing it for much more.  So yes, I just hooked you up with a bomb dot com tip for parking around the area.  So glad my roommate schooled me on this spot, now I'm paying it forward to you yelpers!

When I'm not taking BART to Powell Street to reach the Union Square area, I used to park in a garage just southwest of the square. Not anymore! I found this place based on Yelp reviews and now I'm hooked.  Just keep on driving upward until you find enough available spots.  And you better believe I'll be parking here when I want to visit other nearby neighborhoods and need to drive. Thank you, Yelpers!

This is probably the least stressful place to park if you are going to be in Union Square for any length of time. There is almost always a space, it's convenient to lots of places, and the prices are reasonable. If you don't want to streess out drinving around, I recomment driving up to the 5th or sixth floor for a spot. the lowers floors are often full (at least on the afternoon/evenings I'm there) except for the occasional compact space that tend to be quite, well compact. It's also very well lit and safe at night For us suburbanites, the Bush Street exit is particularly convenient to the freeway.

    PROS:

    1.  Great location, right across from Union Square.

    2.  Great price.  Special rate of $2/hr ($8 max) from 5pm-8am, and Sunday all day.  The other garage on Sutter (right next to the Banana Republic) charges $3.75 for the first hour.  I drove in and drove right out.

    3.  Much wider spaces than the MIssion Metreon garage; therefore, lessen the chances of dints and dents.

    CONS:

    None

I have yet to come here and have trouble finding parking at night on the first level I arrive at.
I arrived last time a little after 8 pm and left a little after 10 pm. 4 bucks!
For Union Square area parking we all know thats a deal. Stairs and elevators lead down to street level but just remember what floor you are on. You don't want to be like me wandering three floor holding my car alarm up waiting for the chirp.
Take your ticket with you and pay at the pay stations when you come back in. I think there is a 15 minutes grace period people but come on. Its chump change right?
Close to all the bars, clubs and restaurants on the Union Sq and Financial District.

I wish I could give negative 10 stars. We paid in cash at one of their toll machines before returning to my car, but the d*mn machine issued no receipt!!!!!!!! When we inserted the paid ticket into the ticket machine at the exit, that f*cking machine kept telling to pay. But I already paid $6!!!!! We talked to the attendant but all he said was he couldn't do anything because we didn't have a receipt. Pretty useless. They should have made their ticket machine spit a receipt first before telling me to provide it.

Lesson learned. Be aware: Don't pay at their toll machines. Pay direct to an attendant in person and get a receipt.

Pretty awesome garage, if you ask me!  Great location, cheap prices, awesome specials, safe, and PLENTY of spaces -- what's not to like?

Well, I guess there is one thing ... which would explain why the one star is gone.  Working with the staff is rare to non-existent, but when you do they aren't very nice people.  Which kind of makes you wonder why they work there if they're just going to be rude about everything you ask of them.  But whatever, as long as you never have to deal with the staff you'll love this parking garage!

    Did you know...

If you pay at the cashier (the actual person), get your receipt, and then somehow manage to lose your ticket on your way to your car... (yes, it happened to me).... that same cashier makes you pay the $34 lost ticket fee on top of what you *just paid him* - to let you out of the garage?

    True story.

I even went up to the garage office on the 3rd floor.  Showed them my receipt (for $3), which had a timestamp of about seven minutes prior to that moment (which I spent looking for the disappearing ticket, then begging the teller, whom I had just given my $3 to, to let me out without paying $34 more)... but this got me nowhere.  The manager said "you make the mistake, you pay."

DO NOT LOSE YOUR TICKET AFTER PAYING - EVEN IF YOU HAVE THE RECEIPT AND PAID A REAL LIVE PERSON THEY WILL NOT HONOR IT.

Sorry, but there's just something wrong with that.  Double sorry for the all caps.

    :-)

    I can't believe I'm reviewing a garage, but here I go...

I like parking at this garage over the 5th & Mission one because the location is more convenient to access and it has multiple entrances.  The prices are kind of high during the week (which is to be expected in Union Square), but it's really reasonable at night and on Sundays.  (Of course, I'm bummed that the flat fee on Sunday went up to $10.)  There are tons of spaces, so even when it's really busy I can usually find a spot on one of the higher floors.

The only real drawback is that if you're paying by credit card, you can't pay the live person.  You have to use one of the machines if you're using a credit card.  Why?

Yelping about a parking garage may seem strange, but seriously $8 \ night in the middle of the city, it doesn't get much better than this...

But wait, it does!  This parking garage was also a block away from my hotel.  BTW, even though it's called the "Stockton Garage" there is an entrance on Bush St.  We didn't know this and ending up doing a big loop so that we could go through the Stockton St. Tunnel.

    I hate driving.

    And looking for parking.

But parking around Union Square can be less of a headache thanks to this garage. Its close location to Chinatown's lion gate on Grant St and numerous SF stores in the vicinity makes it a no brainer for me.  $3 per hour and if you're planning to park overnight, it's only $8 (after 5pm and leave by 8am).

Enter and exit on Bush st. (this is a one way st.) but not as much foot traffic as Stockton st.

The one time I parked my car here, it was broken into.  To be as fair to the garage as possible:
1.)  The workers and the security guard were polite and helpful regarding the issue.
2.)  I took a spot in the corner of the garage (it was the only one I could find.)

This happened a few months ago, in late 2009.  The economy was sucking a little harder than it is now and the city didn't have enough money to pay for effective garage security.

If you do use this garage, park in an area where a lot of people will be walking by.  By an elevator, an entrance, or something.   Its generally good practice to hide all chargers/mounts and put any expensive-looking belongings in the trunk as well (although it didn't help me :( ).

Yes, I rated a parking garage 5 stars. Yes, I'm even reviewing a parking garage. But I love love love this garage when I drive into the city. $3/hr is pretty good for parking in the city... I've never had to park here overnight, but $10 if you're in after 5 and leave before 8 AM is a pretty awesome deal as far as parking in the City goes. Convenient location... not right off the freeway, but pretty easy to get to.

Unless I have the whole day to burn, I usually end up driving in when I need to go run errands during the week and I need to get back to work up in Sacramento. I've never used the actual real live people since I'm always in a hurry and the auto-pay machines are usually free. Love the location (right near Chinatown and Union Square). I've been parking here since I was little (when riding with my parents of course) and I will probably always park here when I'm crazy enough to drive into SF.

For those who don't mind a longer walk, this is the best garage to park on trips to Chinatown. Like today, with the Flower Market Street Fair taking place, we were able to easily drive into the garage just past noon and find parking just halfway up on the 6th Floor. There were huge lines trying to enter St. Mary's, Portsmouth Square, and even the Golden Gateway garages. It's pretty much $3 an hour, but for after 5pm and all day Sunday it's $8 maximum daily (also maybe by then it's $2 an hour but I'm not sure).

Besides going to Chinatown, this is also much better than the Union Square garage. At least the layout and maneuverability inside is much better by far.

Right... I get it... who reviews parking lots, but there can be BIG differences as to where you park in San Francisco.

First off, many will have to get over the fact that you have to pay for parking. It is just a part of life here and FYI, during the daytime, if you are lucky enough to get street parking, the meter will cost you more than this garage.

Now, I have to say this is my favorite place to park. It is a well situated, reasonable priced, city-owned garage with plenty of spaces (*except at Christmas time and during the Chinese New Year Parade). Also, I don't mind a little walk, so when parking here I have access to Union Sq., Chinatown, FiDi, SOMA, and the theater district (aka. bloody swindler parking lots)

The guys that work there are pretty nice too, but only after you've been parking there for about five years, it corresponds as to when you receive even a glimmer of recognition. And they wear ties, as all good parking attendants should.

I have been parking at this garage for twenty years.  I use it when I'm downtown, I always park here for the theater - imagine my shock when I got out on the 5th floor - where I park right next to the elevator- and my car was not there.  I had a hard time convincing the ONE security person that my car was not on any of the 12 floors (yes, we went to each one), but finally it became obvious.

One of the cashiers finally remembered that about two hrs earlier a car with my license plate had tailgated another car to get through the gate without a ticket.

I am disappointed that the garage doesn't have cameras anywhere - the cops said something like "each time we come here they tell us the cameras are being fixed."  Having cameras was a bad assumption on my part. I thought they'd be on each floor -  near the elevators, at the gate, etc.

Since my car is gone - I miss it - I won't be parking at the garage again anytime soon.  But the rates are good, it's a great location, just realize there isn't any real security and oh...don't drive a Honda Civic which apparently has "great parts."

    Who reviews a parking structure?

Well, apparently 83 other people looking to help a person out when they are in the area driving in circles trying to find a place to park. Yes, this parking structure is awesome and so easy to go in and out of. You take a ticket, you do your shopping or Dr appointmenting and then you head back and are presented with 2...count them 2 options for payment.

You can toss a card into the machine or you can go over to the 24 pay attendant and pay for your time. The first hour is also only $2 and they offer a $7.50 flat rate for overnight parking, which is a fine deal for the area.

You spend enough time in San Francisco trying to park and eventually you should end up at Sutter-Stockton.  It has got to be the most well-thought-out garage in the City.  Now, I know you might be thinking, "It's a garage, chick - like, it's a GARAGE."  But there are so many things that make this garage phenomenal:

    1. Easily marked and accessible entrances/exits;

    2. Color-coded floors.  Not the kind where there's a little stripe on a pole somewhere, but full-on floor-to-ceiling walls colored.  You may say that you've seen this at other garages...you might.  But there's something about this one that's just in-your-face color;

    3. Fantastic floor-to-floor transition ramps.  AND they're FUN!!!  There's got to be a movie somewhere that used these ramps.  It's probably where doin' donuts was dreamed.

    4. Good-sized parking stalls, along with the appropriate compact-to-regular/full-size ratio.  Think Union Square Garage and you know what I'm talking about.

    5. Big reminders for which exit you're taking.

Thanks to all you Yelpers who have come here before me - I have a doctor near Union Square and finding parking around there usually really ticks me off, as well as costing an outrageous sum.  Today I decided to do a little parking research beforehand and found Yelp reviews of this place.  You saved my bacon!

I entered on Bush St, as you all suggested, and found a spot on the 4th floor pretty much immediately.  Saw my doctor only a block away and came back within the hour, and parking cost me a grand total of $2.  $2!  On a weekday, at Union Square!  That beats the hell out of the $9 I spent last time!!   Getting in and out was quick and easy and the garage is extremely convenient and well-located.  I'll be back here next time I see my doc.

I see that the only negative reviews are for the same issue I had, break in. But did you know?

    1. There are security camaras only on the first two floors. Which is probably where monthly parkers are. I have never gotten a spot below the third floor. So if your car is moved, as our thieves did, two floors up, you cannot ask security to view the footage to see where your car ended up. An hour of searching on foot bore that fact out. And why couldn't security drive me around?

    2. There is one security guard for the whole complex.

    3. If there are no security camaras and one security guard, guess what? It is not JUST your car that is in danger. What is to stop a thug from harming YOU?

This is not safe garage. Convienence and a fair price are not worth endangering yourself!

This is one of the best parking spots in the city. We recently visited SF for 4 days. We decided to park the car in this garage opposed to leaving it with the hotel valet. It turned out to be very cost effective. Parking at the Westin was 50/day with in and out privileges. While parking in this garage had a max of 36/day. Overnight parking is $8 after 5pm, leaving before 8am. All other times you just pay the normal rate. However since we were driving around much of the trip (going to napa, etc). WE found that you actually save quite a bit of money parking here.

I..am..reviewing...a garage. Okay so this won't be the last, I can name at least four others that I would love to tell you about.

Anyways, I love this garage. Something about it tells me that I have arrived. Union Square is at your feet. Registers are staffed and await my measly dollars. Easy to get to and easy to get out of, you'll find yourself in a nice, clean garage free of 4th and Mission's drama and urine smell and devoid of Ellis Street Garage's valet stunt drivers.

Tip: There are two elevators. The high speed ones and the normal ones. The high speed ones are to the left of the cashier, and to the right, the normal. High speed truly is high speed and will deposit your rump closer to the Stockton street entrance. The Normal Speed ones will deposit you onto Sutter street at the very bottom. Nice hint if you'd like to get to Coach/Banana Republic/E&O as opposed to Niketown/Macy's/Borders.

Also, you can park downstairs...for those of you who are headed towards east of Union Square and Banana Republic, go downstairs from the Stockton street entrance, take the stairs by the normal speed elevator and voila. Pimp. No waiting for funky elevators.

I can't believe I'm into this review as much as I am. Hope it's helpful!

My parking garage choice for all my Union Square, Financial District treks.

Fast in, fast out, and ALWAYS a spot available to park!  Not to mention you won't need to take a small loan out to pay for half a day of parking.

This is where I learned that a Cadillac Escalade is a compact car.

    Yes, it is!!

    Don't laugh at me!

Just ask the asshole who parked one in a spot clearly marked "COMPACT" !!!!!!!!!

Are you bleepin' kidding me, dude?   Compact compared to what?  The Queen Mary II?

Other than that, this garage is large and extremely convenient.

Well, I've parked my car here on numerous occasions and it's been a great garage except for last Tuesday, when my car was STOLEN form the garage.  Be careful if you park here, they have cameras but the cameras don't record anything!  One of the security team members was really nice, but another suggested I had forgotten what color my car was, or lost it.

SFPD recovered my car in the Bayview a little over 24 hours later, but I'll never park there again!

Me likey very much!!!  I'm not recommending this for long-term parking, but if you are going to run a few errands in Union Square or watch a play or eat at a Union Square restaurant, this is the place to park.  I'm soooooo... thankful for this garage, as most folks try to park in the Union Square Garage, which I find to be outrageously priced and soooo...not worth the searching.

Someone mentioned the price and it is true, only $2.00/hour, which beats some of the others (can go up to 3.50/hour).

$2/hr evening rate is super cool! Ok 2 things you need to know:

1- I don't know why it says it's hours close at 12am because IT IS OPEN 24 7!!

2- If you're looking for this place.. it's NOT on Sutter, it's on Stockton! From 3rd, turn left on Grant, then left on Sutter.. past Banana Republic etc.. and then turn RIGHT on Stockton.

Anyway, this place is super cheap!! I think there is an $8 evening maximum as I got there at 7:30 and picked up my car at 1:30. That's 6 hours.. and instead of charging me $12 they only charged me $8!!

I love parking in this garage when ever i need to go to Union Square.
There are a lot of parking spaces, and the spaces are not too small.
It seems like a very safe parking garage, since there are plenty of bright lights on all the floors.

This parking garage is open 24 hours, too!  The entrance is actually on Stockton, right next to the tunnel.

The rates are decent here.  The max price for evening is only $8, which is great!

The bathrooms are clean, too.  You just need to swipe your parking ticket in order to access it.

Parked here the other day and had to go all the way up to the 11th floor. I never knew there was an 11th floor! Goes to show you how many people are out and about doing the Xmas shopping.

I actually enjoy driving around that spiral ramp for some reason. One of these days, I'm going to get my skateboard and skate down that damn thing!

Ok, back to the garage. It's relatively cheap and it's efficient to use. My go to parking space downtown.

BTW: All of you with the credit card tip - thanks. I'll try it next time.

I don't understand people who complain about parking in this city being so bad...all you have to do is enter this parking lot on the Bush St. side, park your vehicle and you're off!

No circling around looking for an unoccupied metered space, plus it's close to all your downtown shopping needs and it doesn't close in the middle of the night, thus trapping you in the city.

I recommend it to all my friends who come to visit me in the city.
