my friends and I like to call Brazilian waxes "baby vadge" and damn it was  the best baby vadge ive ever gotten in the city. It seriously took 10 minutes and didn't hurt as bad as some other ones and for $30 dollars, thats pretty great. highly recommended!  smooth as a baby!

i got a manicure there once too and it looked good. they got OPI so hellzzzzz yeaaahhhh.

its not all fancy and luxurious as some other salons which is fine. they do good work and are nice.

I have been to many of the hole in the wall nail places around here and this place takes the cake!  Good prices, careful technicians and great conversation.  They make you feel comfrotable and they actually will talk to you about your day.  I go here all the time and have a great experience every single time!!

Good job ladies!!!!

Waxing: thankfully done very quickly but under embarrassingly bright lights.  Oh, well.  It was cheap and the girls did a good job.

Pedicure:  Cheap, and I noticed the technician was really careful.  Nice job; lasted for weeks.

Overall:  What I expected after reading Yelp reviews.  I might have been a little shocked with the waxing if I didn't prepare myself, reading reviews.  I would go back.

I was in town for a wedding and stopped here for a pedi based on Yelp reviews. She did a nice job. It was nothing too fancy, but it did come with a little leg massage and my feet came out really pretty. Plus the price is right.

If you want something done right, do it yourself.

This is what I kept thinking after getting a manicure at Sutter Nails. The salon experience was okay - pretty much like every other manicure I've ever had. By the end of the day, two of my nails had chipped. Its been a week and now theres barely any polish left on my nails. What is the point of getting a manicure thats going to chip within 4 hours??

They also kinda messed up my nails. I have very strong nails that aren't brittle and never break. Two days after getting a manicure at Sutter Nails, my nails were cracking and chipping and breaking all over the place. More of a massicure than a manicure.

Short on time I needed somewhere close to work to get a bikini wax .  The last minute decision took me away from my usual place across town (the best brazillian waxes ever, but alas no time for greatness) so I came here, and got a basic bikini.  While it was okay, got the job done, and only $18, I believe firmly in the old adage "you get what you pay for."

Like I said, got it done, and didn't take too long, but towards the last few strips, the wax was getting too hot, and she wasn't great about listening to me when I told her and letting it cool first. Worse, she did leave me with some bruising, which simply means she didn't pull the skin taught, or hold it tight enough.  Not too big a deal since no one was really going to see it, it's not like I was headed somewhere to put on a bikini any time soon, but still.

When you start looking like a hirsute fetishist wet-dream, it's time to get your Umfoofoo Bush self to Sutter Nails.

Don't expect a zen, spa-like, clinical salon when you come here but you can expect fast, efficient, and friendly service.  Jenny and company will likely double-team you for any extensive waxing service like Brazilian and full leg jobs.  And if you think they're talking about you, they probably are, but at least they speak in Vietnamese so that you don't feel so bad about your Amazonian looking caterpillar of an eyebrow or howler monkey shag of a bush.

Despite feeling like a cross between a frog waiting to be dissected in your old high school science class and a yogi doing hip extensions, the speed and efficiency at which they do their dirty job is worth the awkward contortions you're asked to perform.  You want me to hold my leg this way and lay partially spread-eagled under this harsh, unforgiving fluorescent lighting?  Sure, for how long?

Although they've increased their prices, they are still very reasonable -- especially in this economy.  I have been coming to Sutter Nails for about 1.5 years and I plan to keep going until a) they close or b) I get lasered (or pulse lit).

In a fit of inspiration I had my toes painted green before I came down to SF for work.

Sometimes inspiration is ugly.

Obviously, I needed a place that would fix this ASAP and it needed to be near my hotel, take walk-ins, do a good quick job, and not charge more than a decent bottle of wine.

Sutter Nails fit the bill and they did a great job! It's certainly not fancy in here, but it seems clean and the women that worked here were really nice. It was only $30 for a mani-pedi and they didn't laugh about my green toes...well, at least not in a way that I would have been able to understand. For that, and my pink toes, I thank them.

I go here often for waxes, which I'm happy with.

However, I had my first pedicure here recently and was not happy. First of all they didn't use any soap or anything in the water.. so my feet soaked in plain water. My next problem was that they didn't even remove the callouses on my feet.. so how is this a pedicure?? Finally, talking on the phone while giving a pedicure is very  unprofessional.

I will go back for waxes because they are cheap and thorough, however, never for anything else.

I feel so bad when I cheat on Sensi (my #1 go to place for mani/pedi/wax), but sometimes I just don't have time to go to the Sunset and just pick a mani/pedi place near where ever I am. Yesterday I needed one before getting my hair cut next door at Yamamoto.

Nothing fancy about this place. 4-5 spa pedicure stations and about the same about of manicure stations. The girls who did my mani/pedi were good. Took their time, but not too much time, and did a really good job. $30 for both. Not bad at all.

Won't come back unless I absolutely have to though since I love Sensi so much!

5 stars for their french manicure -- the longest lasting french manicure I've ever had. It lasted for almost 2 weeks!! Wow!!

3 stars for the brazilian wax. - Ok...I make it a point to go for brazilians regularly, so I have plenty of experiences for comparison. I like how the lady used baby power first...it makes it less painful, but I felt she was too quick and not thorough enough. I expect tweezing after the waxing, but that didn't happen. There were definitely some stray hairs that got left behind. I won't be coming back here for a brazilian.

The atmosphere screams back-to-basics, but they do great manis, pedis, and waxes.  Fast and efficient.  Friendly ladies.

Definitely take BART to get here though.  Driving in this area, and finding parking (if possible), is a biatch.

I'm from LA and I usually go to Silvia at Sweet Dreams, but couldn't get organized to get myself up there before I left, so I was sent here by a coworker who comes here for nails all the time. I had Jenny for a Brazilian.  I don't think I have ever had a more painless wax, and I have had regular ones for a really, really long time.  She was fast and efficient, and everything was fairly straight.

It's not a fancy salon, not by a longshot, but the space is clean and well-lit, all the instruments are clean, and latex gloves were part of the program, all star-worthy.

Some advice to all you who are new to this type of wax; do what she tells you. Seriously. If you have to contort in weird ways, do it; if you don't follow instructions, she can't do her job, and you're likely to be unhappy with the results.  When you're on the table is not the time to get all shy about it.  She's seen it all, trust me.

This place rocks for Brazilian/Hollywood waxes!

Don't expect the bells and whistles of fancier salons.  At this place, they run lean on the budget but do a great job.  The staff are friendly and can accommodate you w/o an appointment.

Unless someone else can find otherwise, this place has the best prices in the city.

Too bad we can't do half stars on yelp. I give this no frills spot  a 4.5.
The prices can't be beat and I had a bikini wax and manicure in about 40 minutes total. The wax was lightening fast with no "complications" (such as busting out the tweezers). My lady got everything in one pass and the pain wasn't unbearable like with other "wax technicians".

Although I always wonder what those little ladies at the shop are muttering to each other in their language,  my technician had a great personality and was very friendly.

I only visited once but I can tell this is a place that makes their customers feel comfortable and welcome. I will be back!

You just can't beat a $10 manicure done within 30 minutes.  I'm a regular and they have always treated me well.  My manicures normally last about 1.5 weeks, but for $10, it's totally worth the value.

Selection of colors could be increased, but I always find something I like.

The only issue I had was finding it the first time I went.  It shares the building with a small theatre and is actually located on the second floor.

This is the best place to get a Brazilian bikini wax.  Both Jenny and Theresa, the owners, are so professional and quick.  I think that the whole brazilian wax only took about 15 minutes from start to finish.  Not only that, but they are very nice people.
The least expensive, professional, quick and least painful Brazilian that I've ever experienced on the block.  I mean, if it wasn't a little painful, you'd have to wonder what was going on down there. ;-)

No frills, but perfect for a quick $20 pedicure. And if you get the chair by the windows you're at an excellent second-floor, people-watching vantage point.

Lilly was my gal and did a great job. I'd come back to see her again. They also had my favorite OPI color (Melon of Troy).

The only weird part is walking in through the theatre entrance and up the stairs near stagehands and construction. But once you're in the 'salon' you don't even notice the theatre activity.

I have been going to this nail salon for over two years. I am very particular about my acrylic nails. These ladies have never once grummbled nor gotten huffy with my high maintenance antics. They are the epitome of customer service. They are always warm, welcoming and hospitable, and not to mention very fast! In addition to the great customer care, they are very clean. I have, for once in my life, found a salon that has not passed along fungus to me!

Have a bigfat buzz from accidentally swilling all day with GF and have several hours to kill before the night calls you out to play? Toes all banged up and in need of repair? Pop in to Sutter Nails, no reservation and quick service, even of a Saturday night. Two of my friends have long been going here for mani-pedis and waxing and I think they've been trying to keep it a secret!!

Well, secret's out, sisters!! I am so going back here--$23 for both mani and pedi, they use sterilized and disposable instruments and are fast. Jennifer H. says their pedis last at least 2 wks. It's pretty no frills, though the massage chair had a whole seat-vibrating feature that I have not experienced in other salons and that I am going to find and purchase for home use. If I completely drop out of the scene, you can find me at my apt with my new chair-lover, drooling with remote control in hand.

$10 for a quick manicure? I'm sold. I suck at painting my nails but I want color on them. I don't need a 60 minute manicure. Just file them and slap some paint on.

I actually even prefer the manicure here to the one I've gotten at Bliss Spa in the W. It lasts longer and they do a better job. You're never going to see me with beat up nails again. Oh and being able to walk-in whenever I have some spare time rocks!

I have consistently gone to Sutter Nails because they treated me well. The nail and wax work were very well done. I always tipped extra because I was so pleased.

However, I'm very sad to have to start looking for a new place because they take their loyal customers for granted. Once I became a regular, the service went down the tubes. My manicures barely last 3 days now. There are pieces of cuticle still hanging on. They rush me out in order to give a tourist who's just strolled in the star treatment. Tonight I went in (it's a cold night) and she filled the spa chair basin with cold water!!!

It really sucks because they used to be so nice and their work was so good. Now I have to go out of my way to find a new place. I'll never go back again.

I went here today, with no appointment, for my first Brazilian wax (well, my first wax of any kind, really). My boyfriend and I walked in the door and someone immediately came up and asked me what I needed. I said, "I'm here for a full Brazilian wax," and she immediately put me in a nice private sterile room, had me take my shoes and underwear off, pull my skirt up, and lay down.

She'd started waxing me less than 3 minutes after I walked in. She used soft wax and was VERY fast and efficient. It wasn't painless but it hurt a LOT less than I'd been told to expect. She chatted away with me as she worked--in fact, right after she'd pulled the first strip, I mentioned that I'd told my boyfriend to get a manicure while he waited for me. "You want me to go ask him?" she asked, and stepped out, quickly set him up, and came right back.

She frequently apologized and said I was almost done, but I swear, it couldn't have taken more than 10 minutes before I was putting my shoes back on. She was done with my wax before my boyfriend's nails were finished being filed.

Did I mention she charged $25 for the wax and $10 for the mani? What a STEAL!

I'll be honest: This isn't the fanciest place, nor the most luxurious. But they are clean, friendly, quick, and incredibly good at what they do. I'll definitely be going back.

UPDATE 11/12/07: They've raised their price for a Brazilian to $30, but it's still totally worth it. You still don't need an appointment, and for the record, their pedicures are awesome.

I found this place through yelp because my girlfriend wanted her nails done. This is a small mom and pop store hidden in the 2nd floor of a sutter street building. They have a improv club on the first floor. My girlfriend wasn't happy with the results of her french manicure. She said that they cut her nails too short and got paint on her skin. It seemed like the person who did her nails was new. I thought it was weird that they had the newbie do the work because the place was empty and there were 3 workers sitting around. So I recommend asking for a senior person with more experience if you ever go to this place. You certainly can't beat the price.

Jenny is the BEST WAXER IN TOWN, and I know because I've tried plenty of others. One of them was a Russian ex-nurse who barked commands at me and heated the wax to boiling point. Another was so busy telling me about her online dating woes that she always missed bits. By contrast, Jenny is gentle, meticulous, and unbelievably fast--you can be in and out of there in the time it takes to down a latte. Oh, and she's a bargain too. I recommend her to all my girlfriends.

Very frugal. Definitely get what you pay for.

The woman who did it was rushed and done in about 10 minutes. Definitely a "wham bam thank you ma'am" kind of experience and I think she was rushing to get to a client that was waiting for her outside.  So it you like it quick and painful from a nice lady, this is definitely the place to go. 35 dollars a pop - plus a 5 dollar tip I paid 40.

Granted-
I'm used to going to a premier salon that just shut down. Not really into snooty places but I loved the woman who took care of me. She was like a grandma. Anyway, she took her time, it was barely painful and made for a relaxing comfortable experience. So I'm not accustomed to the lack of customer focus so my feedback is relative. Maybe I'm just spoiled.

I work on Sutter street and I really needed to get my nails filled. So I decided to go somewhere close to work. After checking out the reviews for this place I decided - why not give it a try? They say their prices are cheap and they do a good job. So the part about them being cheap.... is not true. $25 for a fill?!?! The place I usually go to, near my home, is only $15 for a fill. Also I usually get french tips.... tack on another $10 so the total would be $35. That is more (or just the same) as getting a new set.

The customer service was nice - as soon as I stepped in the door they welcomed me and they were very nice. I would go back - but only if I am having a nail emergency.

This is one of the best nail salons ever.   $25 for mani-pedi w/massage chair.  They are fast, polite, and always do a great job.  Really, frilly aside, that is what I want.  You can put all kinds of rose petals and scented oils on me, but if you screw up my nails, what is the point.  They do a great job and are very inexpensive.

Came here with my girlfriend, honestly before she stepped into this place I personally thought she needed a wax because she was getting a little bushy.. so she got her stuff done and when she walked out, she looked like a new person! That lady that did her eyebrows and more did a really great job! My girlfriend was really pleased with everything that she got done as well. she kept telling me how nice they were to her and how she is gunna come back here every single time she needs a wax. I guess if shes pleased with everything here I guess everryone else will too because she is one hard girl to please. I'm not kidding. So I recommend this place to every girl out there!

Fast, cheap, friendly and so convenient. Really, what more could a girl want when she needs to get her nails done in a jiffy? They also use OPI nail polish which always has a nice array of colors. And the final added bonus, they let a fellow customer play her Sex and the City dvd on their tv for all of us to enjoy.
