I'd always walked by this place many times since I go to school nearby, but I was always a little intimidated because of how fancy it looked (who would've ever thought that a bakery would have granite counter tops everywhere)? I also thought it was a little snooty for them to call themselves a "bakery boutique." Is that supposed to mean that they're better than a bakery?

So an occasion came when I couldn't go to Boston to get one of my favorite cakes for my good friend's birthday and had to pick a place in the town. I'd heard that Susu made their cakes fresh from scratch every day, so I gave them a call and ordered a buttermilk (white) cake with raspberry cream filling and vanilla buttercream on the outside. Although I was appalled that it cost a whopping $34 for an 8-inch cake, I figured that it had to be good.

That night when we cut the cake and ate it, I was disgusted to find out how dry the crumb was -- the cake was incredibly dense and dry, and I needed a lot of water just to get it down my throat. Not only that, but the vanilla buttercream was really grainy -- that's a BIG no-no when it comes to good buttercream, and I've had a lot of cakes and desserts before that didn't cost this much and were far superior in quality.

Not only that, but when the person at the cash register rang up my order and I charged it, there was a line to TIP them for a cake! Why should I be obliged to tip for a cake?! I'm never coming back here again. A waste of (a lot!) of money. I would give this zero stars if I could.

holy cow this place is amazing!
I stumbled on it by accident when no where else in the square was open for lunch but them. There is a lack of seating, but what they do have is very nice and comfortable. It was a busy day and they quickly and gracefully set up two more tables out of window and merchandise displays. Brilliant!
The wait-staff were friendly and helpful. The menu for lunch is slightly limited but diverse enough for everyone to find something they want. I personally had the best seafood chowder I have ever had in my life!
I haven't even started on the sweets.... TOP OF THE LINE! I worked in a bakery for a few years, and a good one at that, but I have never tasted such luxury! They are on the pricey side, but when you wanna be bad to your body, but good to your taste buds, you may as well make it worth it!
DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!

Fancy and overpriced bakery but if you can afford it I recommended it.
Everything is hand made and the service is great. Catering menu for your parties!

I haven't been TO the place but I got to try some of their cupcakes that I received as a gift (a vanilla with a flower frosting, a chocolate with a flower frosting and a coconut vanilla cupcake)! Delicious but the frosting is a tad bit sweet/overpowering! They're pricey and a tad small but I'm a huge fan of cupcakes. I hope to try the other stuff later :)

waaaayyy overpriced.  I had a cupcake that tasted like the red food dye because there was so much in the frosting.  Not much on offer either.  Everything was very expensive.  If you are looking for quality try Acorns Bakery in Needham.
