Sushi Yoshi is my favorite spot for fresh sushi in Vienna. I've frequented this little sushi bar several times over the years, and I'm always raving about it to my friends. The quality of the fish is always fresh, and the combinations of fish, fruit and veggies are always interesting and pleasantly surprising.

Sushi Yoshi never disappoints. They're located on the corner of where Center street meets Church Street, and offer outdoor seating; which is perfect when the weather is as nice as it has been these past few days. This is my second time coming here, and the sushi, as it is reviewed on yelp, is always fresh. It isn't just clearly obvious, but you can also taste the difference between a grocery store's box of chewy sashimi, and Sushi Yoshi's soft, fresh cut salmon. If you aren't aware of this difference - skip the grocery store and try this place to satisfy your Sushi craving for a night out instead. I especially like the rolls that they incorporate mangos and their spicy mango sauce into, because the unexpected sweetness actually works pretty well with fish such as salmon and yellowtail. Also, don't be afraid of the Jalapeno Chilli Sauce - it's a lot sweeter and refreshing than it is spicy.

I just had the chirashi for lunch and I am craving it again for dinner!  The flavors of it, and with the side of fresh sashimi that it comes with are delicious.

I have been here 3 times in the past 6 months and everything I got was delicious and the sushi tasted very fresh.

I recommend trying the green tea, sea urchin sushi, and of course, the chirashi.  I also recommend making reservations ahead if you are planning for more than two people.  If it's just two people you could probably squeeze in at the bar.  The establishment is small, but so are houses and restaurants in Japan, and the food and atmosphere will make me coming back for a long time.

It's rare that I'm served at a place and immediately think that I'll write a review, but that's what happened tonight.  I was craving sushi and was going to be in Vienna, so I looked this place up.  I briefly noted that reviewers had mentioned chirashi which is my favorite thing to get at a sushi place, so I decided to give that a shot.  OH. BOY.

Chirashi has now been redefined for me.  This was AMAZING.  Such variety! Such beautiful presentation!  It's a frickin' festival of flavor!  As another reviewer noted, you get a plate of rice and a separate plate of sashimi -- but these are no ordinary plates.  The rice is covered in a variety of treasures like sweet egg, shrimp, pickled vegetables, lotus root ... even a couple delicious pieces of barbecue!  The fish was elegantly presented and completely fresh.  SO delicious.

I sat at the bar, and as I was working my way through I found one fish that was familiar, yet far tastier than I remembered.  I asked what it was, and the chef said "white tuna." I told him I thought it was amazing, and he said that it was his favorite too.  I went back to my dish, and a minute later he presented me with another piece of the white tuna elegantly resting against some shredded daikon and adorned with a fresh sprig of herbs. :)  THAT is how to get repeat business from me.  Very classy.

At the end I was glad I didn't get an appetizer -- the chirashi plate was way more than enough food (yet I finished the whole thing).  The restaurant itself is cute and quite small; I arrived at 8pm, after the prime dinner hour, and I didn't have a problem getting service at all.  I'll definitely go back and recommend the place to others!

Why does this restaurant have great reviews?? Nothing about this place is special.  Food is okay, nothing mind blowing.  We had the sushi combo platter, the chicken curry (which was a dissapoinment to all of us) and tempura.  The sushi is okay, just the sushi.
The place is tiny and so cluttered... Bathroom? Just hold it as you will have to go through many obstacles, you will have an accident on the way.  The tables are so close to each other, you could probably easily eat off from the table next to you without getting notice.
The service just pissed me off.  Out of everything, when she just threw the check to our table, I knew that this was not a place to return.  I guess this place gets such great business that they feel they can be rude because people will come to try the place after reading the great reviews on Yelp that they don't deserve.

Came back here again and basically ordered the same thing, which I regretted.

I had the chirashi again, which was good...although the wow factor from last time has worn off.  I ordered the spicy tuna tekka don again, which in hindsight, I should not have.  Just too much food.  Also, the spicy tuna wasn't as good as last time.  The oil mixed into the spicy tuna was either old, or a bit too earthy.

I noticed on their menu that they update their appetizer menu, so it's great that they mix it up.  I had the ankimo from the regular appetizer menu, and it was a bit bland although it sat in a flat plate of citrus soy sauce.  The ankimo was steamed, and it tasted like that.  You get two large slices with each order.

The great find for this time was the geso kara age, which is the fried squid legs.  They were sprinkled with salt, and came with a side of  aioli.  This was a great dish, just wish there was more of it.

I was tempted to order the seared scallops in butter with pork belly from the new appetizer menu, but wanted the previous two appetizers a bit more.  Maybe next time, if it's still there.

You know you have a good find in an authentic Japanese restaurant when they offer a ton of appetizers (Japanese tapas as advertised) beyond the typical rockie shrimp, crab quesadilla, and age (without the dashi) tofu that you find in silly asian fusion restaurants.

I made reservations prior to getting there.  Although the restaurant was not full upon arrival, service was a bit slow and lacking of energy.

I've heard about this place before but never had the opportunity to try it! I'm so glad I went for the first time last night. I had dinner with two of my girlfriends to celebrate a birthday.

We all ordered the Chriashi Deluxe that included an assortment of freshly cut sashimi and veggies over rice.  At first we only received a plate of veggies over the rice and thought we ordered incorrectly, but they informed us that they were still working on the sashimi.  Soon afterwards, we received a huge plate of sashimi! It looked amazing! They even had salmon roe and uni! my favorites! Everything was delicious and just too much to eat on my own! I think I would split it next time.

the only complaint of the night was that the waitress came by at the end of the meal and asked us if we were ready for the cake.  We asked her to discretely bring it out after the end of the meal, but she instead said it in front of the birthday girl.  I guess she didn't understand that part.  Regardless, the food was delicious and i'll be back again!

This is the place to go to. Me and my wife are from ny and love and have the best sushi in ny but since we moved is has been the best place yet. They have a good variety of special rolls which is what we look for and you can get brown rice and they have the best sushi crepe it's like a sushi pizza you have to try it.  Until recently they had mini red octopuses but they stopped serving them it would have been good if they brought them back but they say to expensive to import from Japan. But they are so worth it I plan on trying everything from there menu . All sashimi is so fresh and just love them. And sushi yoshi

A couple friends of ours recommended this place to us, and we ended up quite pleased during our visit.

Came by on a Friday night where it was a total full house. Luckily, we were able to snag the last two seats by the bar.

We ordered the Sashimi Deluxe as a precursor to their special rolls. (I know, "faaat" but that's just how we roll). It.Was.Amazing. Chef Yoshi and his crew offered up some beastly thick slices of grade A fish. Wow. You have to try it. I think we ended up enjoying the sashimi more than the special rolls we ordered (although those were delicious as well).

Note: Before we decided on ordering the sashimi, we asked if they had Toro (a favorite) in house, and they did, so they were able to accommodate and include that into the Sashimi Deluxe. Hooray!

    Special Rolls:
Spicy Scallop & Avocado - Very fresh and had a nice kick to it.

Spicy Crunchy Tuna & Avocado - No complaints, tasted just like it should with a little crunch to every bite.

Tim Tim Roll - spicy baby shrimp and crunchy tempura wrapped in white tuna and avocado served with spicy sauce. (This was the favorite out of the bunch).

Sushi Yoshi Roll - spicy tuna, avocado, crab meat and lettuce wrapped in rice paper sprinkled with roe and served with mango sauce (Unfortunately, it didn't taste as good as it sounded on the menu -- the mango sauce was absorbed by the rice paper, which made it totally damp and less appetizing to eat. This caused all the meat and lettuce to fall out of the roll).

I hate to say it, but I think Sushi Yoshi may just have made its way to the top of my sushi list (in Vienna) over Sushi Yama. I love and will always enjoy Yama, but Yoshi may have just claimed the trophy for its more humble, subdued location, freshness, and overall appeal.

This is definitely an awesome alternative to Yama if you want to change things up.

I want to love this place.  I've tried several times.  it's in a lovely setting on historic Church Street with a brick patio with a few tables for outdoor dining  (more about this later).   The menu is large and the food is fashionably presented.

    But....

It's tiny and the table turnover is small.  So there's usually a wait.  The staff isn't very friendly and doesn't try hard to seat you.  They'll just say, sorry, no tables, and that's that.  If you are proactive and linger, you'll notice that a few tables are finished and are waiting for their checks.  An aggressive host would say of course, we'll have a table for you in 5 minutes.  No.  they're content to let you walk away.

Now the outdoor patio is charming with lovely dwarf trees and vines.  It can easily hold 6-8 tables.  There are 3, spaced really far apart, and are bistro tables that seat 2-3.  Everyone always wants to sit outside.  I don't know why they don't put more tables out there.

Now for the food.  Some dishes are great.  Some just so-so.  Their avocado isn't quite as ripe as it should be sometimes so it has that tasteless flavor.  The prices are conducive to an upscale sushi restaurant but they need to fine tune their food and operations somewhat before achieving this reputation.

It's an impressive place to take someone, but there are better choices in town.

Disappointing.  My wife is Japanese so were always looking for a good Japanese restaurant for when she's feeling homesick.  A friend recommended this place and we were really disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, the food was good but we couldn't enjoy it due to outright rude service.  We came with kids, so perhaps the waitress hated kids or something, I don't know but that's still no excuse.  We asked for an extra plate for the kids and you would have thought we just insulted her mother.  Asking for water earned us an eye roll and a sigh.  It's funny because if you've ever been to Japan you know the service is impeccable.

You cannot call yourself an authentic Japanese style restaurant with service like that- it wouldnt fly in Japan, and frankly, it shouldnt fly in America either.  Shame on you Sushi Yoshi.

This place was hard to find, hidden away behind brick walls on the corner of Church and Center street. Parking was also a hassle but I eventually I found some parking in a lot near by. Although I did not have lunch reservations, I was seated quickly at an open table. I ordered the chirashi for lunch based on recommendations by other yelpers. I was blown away by the quantity, quality and presentation of the dish! The service was really great and the food was reasonably priced. I will definitely be back again!

Hands down, one of the best kept secrets of Northern Virginia. I found this restaurant when they had coupons on http://restaurant.com. BEST BUY EVER, since it introduced me to them.

I have been to Tokyo Japan, and have tasted the sushi of the Tsukiji Fish Market - the world reknowned market known for it's sushi. This food at this place is so immpecable I felt like I was back in Tsukiji. I give this place a glowing 5 stars and reccomend this place to all. The service is excellent. Make sure to call for reservations as this place fills up FAST.

Came back here w/ my gfs and the only available spot was a table outside...good sign...we got 10 bug bites before we finally said...ok let's see if there are seats at the bar!

my friend and i both ordered chirashi...which was tasty, but service was below average. The girl i think was brand new possibly?? She got our checks messed up and looked at us confused when we asked for split checks. I think this place was fine, but nothing above average. Will i come back? Maybe...but I can't imagine myself craving this place out of the blue.

I'm writing a review so I can rate this place down from the overall 4 stars on Yelp.

Originally, I had a good impression of this place from my first experience here. I liked the aura of the small Japanese restaurant. It was a Friday evening, and the waiter was kind enough to let my party of 2 to dine in even though the place was booked for the rest of the night. We made our orders quickly, and the food came out momentarily. The okonomiyaki and sushi rolls were good but forgettable.

However, I came here again on a Thurs evening. There were empty tables, and I thought maybe they might be reserved already. So I waited patiently by the door for the waiter to assist me. No one acknowledged my existence! I caught the eyes of 3 waiters who occasionally looked over and pretended like they didn't see me. Um HELLO? I think that is the rudest service after, to stand there for 30 mins without recognition...

My friend and I left and went to Yama two blocks down 123. There was no line and the sushi was excellent. Yoshi, you're not that great - I can find a substitute easily within 1 mile radius along 123. Yelpers, go to Yama or Sweet Ginger instead.

    Small place BIG taste!

I do warn if you're not familiar with the area you may have to spend a few extra minutes finding parking, but it's not that difficult to get. Also, if you go during peak meal times do expect to wait for a table cause this place is small.

I enjoyed the assortment of appetizers that we had ordered but my favorite item was my Chirashi, Young's Chirashi Deluxe to be exact. It was just awesome!

Stopped by here with my snobby sushi connoissuer brother. He really enjoyed the food. I have to say I did too. Everything was done really well.

The chirashi was unlike any other chirashi I've had. Totally worth the money and really great way they've done it. I'd tell you how they did it, but you should just go and have it.

My son really enjoyed his unagi don.

The place was packed as soon as it opened, so keep that in mind. They do take reservations, so get those and plan on being there when they open if you want to stop in for lunch.

I've always had a positive experience at Sushi Yoshi, but we tend to go early and during the week so we've never had to worry about a long wait. The place is tiny though so try to make a reservation in advance.

The sushi is delish. Everything tastes fresh and they have a great variety of specialty rolls. The crispy salmon roll is my favorite by far - the black sesame sauce is simply ridiculous. I would go back just for that actually.

They also have a happy hour menu from 5 - 6:30 on weekdays, but I always end up ordering off the regular menu anyway.

I had great expectations going into this place.  Sadly, they were not met.  It went downhill from the start.  We had reservations for two at the sushi bar.  We arrived, a gentleman was in front of us asking for a table.  There were none open due to them being held for reservations.  There were four seats open at the bar, he asked if he could wait there.  All fine and good.  The hostess returned after seating him and told us it would be a minute as they had to clear the other two seats.  We waited for them to finish, as they finished cleaning the seats the gentleman  asked to be moved to those seats.  They moved him.  I take issue with this for a few reasons.  We had reservations, we were waiting for those specific seats.  I would have had no issue if they seated us first and he waited.  To make us wait and then seat him again is unacceptable and disrespectful.

Once we were seated the wait staff was inattentive, the place isn't that big either...There were some bright spots as well as some detractors when it cam to the food.  I had the slow roasted pork belly as an appetizer.  It was wonderful, perfectly cooked.  It came out in a beautiful, simple bowl with its sauce, it looked immaculate.  Then I noticed this glob of gunk on the inside of the bowl, at first I thought it was dirty but it was actually an accompanying horseradish.  I don't think it should have been served that way, I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with it, but the dish was really good.

When the sushi arrived the plate looked good except for the volcano like roll, one third of it was burnt black to a crisp.  I don't know how they could even think about serving it.  Although the flavor of that roll was amazing I can't believe they served it that way.  I refused to eat the burnt section.  The other rolls we got were average, we got a spicy yellow tail, spicy tuna and an eel and avocado roll.  We also got their Costa Rica roll, while the flavors were good it was rolled horribly.  Falling apart at the seams, smashed a little, very unprofessional job.

There are better options for sushi in Vienna.  I won't be returning to this establishment ever again.

my friend invited me to lunch here. it was down the street from my work place and was craving for some sushi too. took me awhile to find parking here since space is very limited in this area of vienna. i love it that the sushi chefs are japanese and the waitress too. its rare to find sushi places own and run by japanese people.

i went with an order of spicy tuna with avacado to start with then ordered the tonkutsu (pork cuttlet) for my lunch. the tuna roll was what you'd expect from a spciy tuna roll with the buttery finish of the avacado.
next was the pork, it was nice and crispy with a moist center and the miso soup that came along with the meal was very good too. only problem is that this place is too small. next time i will eat at the sushi bar i love to watch the sushi chef's cook.

Reservations are pretty much required on weekends because this place is TINY. They have maybe 12 two-tops that they can push together in different configurations.

They only have one unfiltered sake, but it's one that we like, so that was ok (we both prefer unfiltered sake pretty much exclusively).

We started with pork gyoza dumplings that were very good - crispy on the outside, tender inside.

Then we were served miso soup and salad, both were standard - the salad is iceberg, but the ginger dressing is good, and there were sliced radishes.

I ordered a sashimi sampler (tuna, white tuna, salmon, yellowtail, eel). The portions were nice and the fish was fresh. My tamago omelette was a bit grey, but still sweet and tasty.

We tried a few rolls - the yellowtail and green onion was fresh and light, though redundant with my yellowtail sashimi.

I really liked the crispy salmon roll - salmon, eel, cream cheese, and avocado wrapped in rice paper, deep fried with black sesame sauce - but my husband did not. He thought the crispy outside was too poke-y (you do have to be careful when you eat it). I thought it was warm and comforting and savory - the black sesame sauce was particularly interesting. I normally don't like cream cheese in rolls, but when it is fried it's ok because it gets warm and melty.

We also tried the bagel roll - cream cheese, smoked salmon, avocado - which neither of us liked mostly due to the cold cream cheese issue.

The Center St roll was good - similar to a caterpillar roll you would get at other places (shrimp tempura, eel, avocado, and asparagus wrapped in tuna, avocado).

We were excited to see that they had fatty tuna on the menu, it was delicious of course, but also expensive. They also have fresh wasabi, which is a must for us. The real stuff is vastly different from the dyed green horseradish paste you normally see.

Overall, best local place we have found so far (still not as good as Sakana, which I miss dearly). I would like to come back and try the cooked dishes like sukiyaki and yaki niku.

I love quaint, Japanese-owned sushi restaurants.  Therefore, I was quite excited to dine at Sushi Yoshi.  The quality of the fish is decent for the favorites such as salmon and tuna; however, aji, kohada, tai, engawa, and others were not so great.

Also, they pack on the rice for nigiri that one can get full on the rice alone.  The slices are not sliced well; it lacks elegance.

Service is good when you can get it, but you do usually have to flag someone down.

Here I go again on my journey to find decent sushi in the area.

Have been to this place several times, but still not sure how many stars to give, for one major reason, The quality of food and service can be inconsistent. I have not figured a pattern yet. I guess it all depends on your luck.

Food, I have tried sushi, sashimi, chirashi, grilled marinated salmon, grilled salmon jaw, grilled mackerel, bento box and chicken katsu.

Sushi is usually great. 4 stars.

Sashimi, it depends on the "chefs", if they are real sushi chefs. Anyway, sometimes, you get a very beautiful presentation, but most of time, not. Freshness, presentation and cut are main judgement points to sashimi. I would say, 3 stars for lack of presentation and cut. HINT: if you see a younger chef, most likely, you will get a 4 star sashimi dish. if you see an older chef, most likely, you will get a 2 star sashimi dish. that dish looks like just several left over pieces of fish on a plate.

Chirashi: always good. great presentation and cut. 4 stars.

grilled marinated salmon: overly marinated. 2 stars.

Grilled salmon jaw and grilled mackerel: great, 4 stars.

bento box: good. 3 stars. could be better.

chicken k\atsu: when it is done right, great most of the time, but not every time. it's hit or miss. the sauce is great. I have been told that the sauce tastes like the one in Tokyo. 3 stars.

    Salad and miso soup: average.

Service: yeah, as some reviews have mentioned, it's another hit or miss. I can't understand, for giving such a small restaurant with at least 3 servers. the service should be great all the time. but not the case.

I really love their sushi. BUT the service is horrible.
There were many occasions where the staff did not bring our order out on time, missed bringing our drinks and didn't get us our miso soup. On top of everything else, I guess you have to ask for WATER or they will never serve it to you.

Thats all good, but when i tried using http://restaurant.com's coupons-they started to act up even more.

They came back saying that we were short 5 dollars, so we ordered $5 more. Then they came back saying that we were short $.10!!!

Seriously, you're coming back to us because of 10 cents?
We told them to charge the 10 cents on our food b/c we don't have anything else to order.

My friend came for dinner on another night and the waitress told them they can get a table if they ate within 15 mins, if not, then they can't get a table. They never apologized.
Hence my friends will never go to Yoshi again.

I was expecting a lot more especially from Yelpers' rave reviews.  Unfortunately Sushi Yoshi didn't quite deliver.  Our dinner started off nice with vegetable tempura, miso soup, and salad with ginger dressing.  Unfortunately, my Sushi Regular - 8 pcs nigiri and 6 pieces of spicy tuna roll was so-so.

No problem with the spicy tuna roll but the cuts of the fish, specifically, the tuna and hamachi were not the most desirable, plus, most of the fish was dry, minus the salmon, ebi, and unagi.  I guess 5 out of 8 isn't too bad which was why I gave it a 3.

Tip: Make a reservation if you're going on a weekend.  It's a small restaurant and can get crowded quickly.

The last time I came here was about 2 years ago, and I don't remember much from my experiences except that the fish was ridiculously fresh.  Fast forward 2 years, the fish is STILL ridiculously fresh.  We ordered the chicken kara age and grilled pork belly appetizers, as well as the crispy spicy scallop roll and the Mexican roll.  The chicken kara age was good, but we weren't really a fan of the grilled pork belly because it was just way too fatty for me.  Both of the rolls were delicious though!  Sushi Yoshi is an authentic Japanese restaurant with a great selection of rolls, sashimi, appetizers, and entrees.  The service was just okay, my server was slow even though the restaurant wasn't packed for lunch, (I remember coming here a few years ago and it would be packed!) forgot my iced green tea but I didn't mind and just drank water.  I would definitely come back here again.

I'm a Japanese person who lives in USA.  I usually don't expect  good Japanese Restaurant around here, but this place is amazingly good!
I've tried so many Japanese Restaurants, but none of them are good as here.
If anyone want to try good and real Japanese food, please go to this Sushi Yoshi.  When I eat here, I feel like I'm in Japan eating at a neighborhood Restaurant:D It  makes me so happy here.
Lunch time is a very reasonable price and will make you happy to eat fresh Japanese Food.
After all, it's very hard to find a Japanese Restaurant owned by a Japanese owner:D

It's a tough call to rate this restaurant....I'll have to give around 3.5 stars.  I'm a sushi snob who is still looking for fresh sushi in the area.  Having heard that this is one of the best places in the DC area...I had to try it out after my holiday shopping at Tyson's.

Let's just say that there is quite a discrepancy between the nigiri sushi and the rolls.  I've tried the spicy tuna roll and scallop rolls and I must say they are top notch.  The nigiri sushi on the other hand...must have been made by some amateur sushi chef.  It was poorly cut, had no wasabi between the rice and the sushi (thus it kept falling apart after grabbing it with my chopsticks), and the rice was poorly (if at all) seasoned.

If you're a roll person this is definitely the place to go. I have to say that it's the best in the area.  However, if you're hyper critical sushi snob like me the nigiri and the sashimi just won't cut it.

Rumor has it that Sushi Taro in Dupont is the real deal.....will it be a bust? Only time will tell...

We went there a little early in the evening, in time to make "Happy Hour" which includes a variety of rolls for about $5 and sashimi/nigiri for $2. Even after happy hour, the prices are still pretty reasonable.

Fish was fairly fresh and mild, none of it with that "fishy" smell that is so frequent with places that keep fish past their optimal shelf life. The rolls themselves were fairly ordinary.

Service was good until the restaurant started to fill up and they became a little overwhelmed.  The restaurant is cramp and busy. Can't accommodate more than one large group at a night. Go early if yo can.

If I could give '0' stars, I would.
Attempted to have sushi there for the first time, and was turned away because I didn't have a reservation.  Seriously?   On a Saturday?  FOR LUNCH?  In Vienna, for sushi?
Taking reservations for seats at the bar is totally uncool Sushi Yoshi.  You won't get a second chance from me.

I really don't understand the reviews.  The sushi is GROSS.  I have to put it in caps.  We ordered about $75 between two of us in sushi, $20 in appetizers and we didn't take any home, we left almost all of it on the plate.  I would never recommend this place to anyone.

You are also required to make a reservation, they do not take walk-ins but you are welcome to wait, which could be awhile.  There is only enough seating for about 36 people including the sushi bar area.  I was totally shocked at how small it was.  Service is blah!

Go somewhere else for sushi, I mean the mall has better stuff than this!

Just nothing special.  Not a bad experience overall, but there are certainly better sushi joints in the area that are far more worthwhile to check out.

Also, the water tasted eerily of fish as if the ice racks are actually sitting in a freezer with the fish.  When I requested water without ice, the problem seemed to be solved.  Pretty nasty.

It's about time for me to update my two year old review. So here I am. Tonight I got there at around 7:15pm with reservation and the place was packed as usual. What a successful restaurant it has became.
I had Chirashi as usual but especially today, it was really a generous one. I sat at the unusually high sushi counter which makes me feel like I am a little boy again as I kind of need to climb up there to sit there but it's okay. Once you get up there, it's quite comfortable. Tonight, I saw my very favorite soy sauce on the counter. San-J Organic Tamari. With this premium soy sauce and the genuine wasabi I brought from home quietly, the Chirashi tasted even better tonight. I was in heaven. What a great idea to bring the real wasabi from home instead of using the fake one that most restaurants serve. I almost brought my own San-J but I'm glad I didn't.
Oh, another good thing about tonight's Chirashi for me was that they did not give me any salmon. I do not really enjoy the very widely used "color added, farm raised, antibiotic fed and super sized salmon with many thick white lines. It tastes fatty, but tastes artificial to me. I prefer to have much smaller wild salmon with much less fat in the body, such as wild Alaskan salmon.

Food is beyond fresh and melts in the mouth.  I finally found "my sushi place" in the area.  Moved here from California and have been trying out different places but none of it is up to par.
Service is acceptable but food is beyond great.  80% of customers are Japanese so that should be an indication of how good they are.

    Wow...
I just finished my sushi dinner.
When I came in the yoshi sushi I was not even hungry, but food was do great I just had to eat everything...
The miso soup and salad, then some shimp tempura and a few of the signature sushi rolls...

I am glad I was not too hungry, because I could wait the long time it took them to bring the rolls out, but the wait was certainly worth the food!

Boy, do I regret not coming here often enough now that I won't be back in VA for a while. Picked up some sushi and rolls to go for a pretty late dinner since it was kind of the way back. It's tucked away in a little neighborhood with a few shops but mostly residential. It was definitely a different side of VA I have never seen before.

I ordered a rainbow roll, spicy scallop roll, hokkigai (surf clam), and tai (red snapper). I wasn't overall impressed because my rice was kind of dry and hard, but the fish was fresh enough to make up for it. I recently started eating sushi without soy sauce  or as little as possible and I'm glad I am because you can taste so much more of the fishes this way.

And they give a generous amount of ginger and wasabi which is a plus for me since I'm a fan of the ginger :) I definitely wouldn't mind coming back here when I'm in the area.

I love this place therefore I do not frequent it.
That way I do not spoil myself and appreciate it more.
This place is truly a gem.
New but hidden from the main street of Vienna.

I usually go early before it gets crowded. It's a small place.
I usually  order Chirashi if I am in the mood for raw fish or Sushi.
I am so glad that I live in the vicinity.

We were driving out here for Pie Gourmet and figured we could make the trip even more worthwhile if we found a great dinner spot - I feel fully successful.

This cute and cozy sushi joint served up great, fresh sushi with a yummy tropical twist - a number of their rolls are served with mango and jalapeno sauce.  Yet while more specialty than the usual, they aren't overdone ... too many times my sushi is swallowed up by a puddle of "wasabi" mayo and encased in tempura.  These were a good balance.  Would get the Church St. roll again + another new specialty roll, but my favorite was the Spicy Crunchy White Tuna & Avocado.  Same thing but with spicy tuna is also delicious.  Based on some recs here, I also tried the uni: the appearance is slightly disconcerting (reminiscent of tongue), but the taste and texture was spot on (as long as you can fit it all in your mouth.)  The octopus (both the regular and the baby) was too chewy for me, and it tasted rubbery.

Service was good, even though the place was packed.

They started us with a small salad on the house, and we grabbed some soup and edamame to tide us over.  Hot tea kept coming all night (great since we were right by the door), although we did have to make a point of asking for it.
