As far as "sushi-go-rounds" (kaitenzushi)  go, this is probably my favorite in town.

Its run by Koreans -  few of the rolls are traditional in any sense -  and there is frankly little explanation of what some of the food is - but if that doesn't scare you away -  and you want to explore some novel foods in sushi-like form, you could do a lot worse in Portland.

I seriously do my best to stop by whenever entering or exiting Portland - you should do yourself a favor and try it out if you happen to find yourself around Tualatin.

This place brings the mystery back to mystery meat.

Or mystery fish.

Whichever you prefer.

Sushi is never the first kind of food I jump at when asked to go for lunch, but I thought to myself, "What the hell?" Sushi and nerdbombers? What an excellent combination!

But then, dear reader, you must keep in mind that raw fish scares the bejeebus out of me. I tried it once on accident, and truthfully it wasn't bad, but I wasn't going to put myself out there again any time soon. And then Sushi Train comes along and flips the world that I know upside down.

Yes, there's a menu, but it's only to show images and give names. You don't actually order. It's more of this awkward reach-over-your-neighbor-and-grab maneuver to get whatever looks good from the rotating belt thinger.

Scaaaary!! See, I pretty much stop at California Rolls. Dragon Rolls, maybe. But cooked crab and shrimp is what I'd prefer. One guy would grab a plate from the line, and I'd ask what it is. They'd shrug their shoulders and tell me they didn't know.

Dilemma!

Finally, one of the guys I was with grabbed this plate that had some sort of tempura on top and gave it to me. I wasn't sure if I wanted it, but clearly you can't just put it back. So I tried it, and YUM! Tempura sweet potatoes and onion, on top of some sort of crispy crab-type roll. I still have no idea what was in it, but it was good! Next? Something that resembled a California Roll. Also delightful!

Then I was full, and my meal came to a measly $5. They charge per the color of the plate, which can range from $1.50 to $4 per plate. Not bad for fish, IMO. I would definitely go back, but I still don't think I'd try anything raw.

Close, delicious, and cheap. I'll settle for a little mystery to my food if it falls into those categories!

I've been sampling the various sushi places around town and so far, this is currently my favorite conveyor belt sushi place.  It has changed owners three times (and names twice), but the family running the place now is doing an excellent job.  The quality is great for the price and unless you come near closing time, there's always a large selection ready to eat on the belt.

What keeps this place from getting 5 stars is the limited space and the rather cramped seating around the conveyor belt.  You could very well end up bumping elbows with the person next to you.

Tip for new customers: The wait staff is very friendly, but they tend to leave you be.  Frequently, I see them standing at the side of the room, smiling and watching the patrons, looking for anyone trying to get their attention.  You need to flag them down when you're ready for the check.

They don't accept Amex, but they take Discover.

The first time I went to Sushi Train, I really wasn't too thrilled with the food. The rice didn't seem fresh, and the sushi tasted like it had been sitting out on the train for a while. Maybe I didn't go at a good time, or maybe I was just PMS'ing and needed to be slapped in the face with a chocolate bar...I don't know. The second time I went, the place totally redeemed itself. I ended up a fan of Sushi Train, and I'm currently having cravings for sushi as I write this review. Luckily for me and those around me, I won't be PMS'ing until the middle of November. Hooray!

If you are looking for a simple, reasonably priced, quick Japanese type meal, this is a great place! Good sushi, not the best in the world, but pretty good for Tualatin. Simple menu, very fresh, and the staff is very friendly and fast. I have also tried the chicken udon and it was very good.

It's been more than four years (having left the Portland and come back) since I visited here - I think it was called something else before I left. Anyway, it's wasn't super-packed when I came in last Friday (late afternoon). There's a lot of sushi and while I was worried about it being "fresh" given the number of plates going around vs. the number of patrons, it was quite delicious. There were several, custom spicy rolls but I didn't get the names - they were incredible; they were the more expensive ones. I can't wait to go back and have more. Prices are very reasonable compared to Sushi Track in Wilsonville.

Make sure you try the Sooo Roll.

Been here a few times and like it. The sushi is varied and a lot of the options have a decidedly spicy vibe which was very cool. Prices are very affordable and the staff and sushi chefs very adept and friendly. My kids love it too. Will definitely be back.

I just happened upon this place as I had a few minutes to kill before meeting up with a friend for after work drinks. I'm a big fan of the Sushi World restaurants so this seemed like a no brainer.

I was immediately seated at the bar by the friendly waitress and brought a cup of green tea. Since I didn't have the luxury of time, I just made a quick once-over of the menu and then made my selections. Two of the three dishes I pulled were good and exactly what I expected. The third was something that looked good but was not the taste I was expecting. I never did figure out from the menu what it was but it tasted like taco meat wrapped in rice and nori.

As I ate, I took a closer look at the menu and realized that instead of the normal three plate price structure ($1-$3), this place actually had five different prices ($1.50-$6) as well as other prices for special order items. I also noticed that their prices were about 50% more what I was used to.

I liked the place and will probably come back again when I have more time. I just need to take a closer look at menu first before making my selections.

This place has actually grown on me and because it's in my neighborhood I frequent it quite a bit.  I'll come here by myself once in awhile or take my kids with me.  My one son is now fond of their teriyaki chicken bowl and orders that all the time and venturing into the introductory California Roll.  My older son will eat all the California Rolls that pass by the 'train'.

Surprisingly enough, the saba that has been served to me here is delicious; my favorite nigiri.  Anyway, you have to hit this place at the right time to get a wide variety but nonetheless you can always order off the menu.  The chefs are friendly and I found out that one of the chefs here is good friends with the owner of Sinju downtown and he helped open that place.

Overall, a small neighborhood sushi place in a strip mall that can grow on you and become a favorite place.  Waitresses are nice and the service has been great for me.  The music is quite a variety from Chinese classical opera to Depeche Mode, yeah, I thought that was pretty unique!!

This place is affordable and has good food.  It's not upscale, and it's not priced that way either.  Many classy sushi places can be a little expensive, but this one is right on and a great place to go for lunch or dinner.

I recently went back after been gone for a year and I loved it when I left but when I came back, my usual lady wasnt there (i figured she'd be gone) and the sushi was horrible!  Maybe I came at an off time but I liked it way better a year ago!

My boyfriend and I tried this place when he moved in nearby. We keep going back because we love sushi, and we can get it at a great price here. The quality isn't the same as a nice sit-down restaurant, but it is great for the price you spend.

Technically, I think this place is still called Sushi World (listed that way in the Yellow Pages), but they changed their sign out front and remodeled a bit inside to convert from a regular sushi bar to a sushi train. As the Sushi Train name suggests, this is a kaitenzushi place, which I usually love, but I didn't love it here. When I went it was shortly after the sign change and the remodel, so I thought I'd give it a try. It's not that the sushi itself wasn't good, because it actually was pretty OK. The problem was that the price was quite a bit higher than other places like this. If you've never eaten kaitenzushi/sushi train style, the concept is that small individual plates of sushi are put on the "train" for you to pick out as they come by, and the color/pattern of plate corresponds with a price. It seemed almost deliberate that the only plates put out were the ones that were more expensive. Sure, you can specially request what you want, but that's not really the point. Part of the fun is seeing something that looks good and just grabbing it. If I wanted to have to order everything, I'd go to a regular sushi bar instead of a "train" place. We ate half as much as usual and paid double for just adequate sushi. If this were the only choice, I'd probably still go there, but there are plenty of other places that have a much wider variety and price range of plates constantly in circulation, so they lost me.
