This is some pretty great sushi. I came here on a date and the atmosphere was perfect... very intimate. We ordered a bottle of wine which matched our sushi wonderfully surprisingly the wine wasnt overly priced. Out of all the sushi restaurants Ive been to in Denver Sasa comes in second... after sushi Den.

My favorite part of this place location, location, location... anyone living in Riverfront park or highlands definitely needs to check this place out.

Sushi Sasa's Ankimo (steamed monkfish liver) was listed as a top 100 must eat in Denver, so I gave it a shot:

Rating: 6.9

The Skinny: Foie Gras is not exactly the most popular of all delicacy dishes, and probably even less so when named "steamed monkfish liver" -  so I wouldn't expect massive appeal, but it was very nice. Three rich, creamy and flavorful medallions that melt in your mouth.  The other components on the plate suited it perfectly I thought, balancing each bite.  Was it amazing?  No -  but I'm not obsessively into foie gras like others may be.  Still very good.

I've got a picture of it up on the blog if you want to see what it looks like

I decided to try this place since it is right in my neighborhood and received great marks from other reviewers...but I was sorely disappointed.

The first time I went there, I ordered sushi to go for my boyfriend and I...I would've loved to have had the option to call ahead, but there was no menu online.  So I had to go to the restaurant and wait for the sushi.

And the restaurant was really hard to find.  It's hidden behind trees and doesn't have a sign that I could see.

When I ordered, I wasn't offered a place to sit at the bar or a place to sit anywhere.  After 10 minutes of waiting, I asked to sit and was told (via a point of a finger) to sit in the hallway on the way down to the lower level seating area.  I was fine with that, but there were only two chairs - both of which had other to-go orders on them.  So I asked if I could move one of the orders and the host huffed a huge sigh, said "FINE" and then got another chair where I had to LITERALLY sit underneath coats that were rubbing against my head.  And we spent almost $100 on sushi TO GO.  It's not like I ordered cheap stuff.

I chalked it up to him having a bad day and because the sushi was decent (abeit overpriced) I then decided to go again with a friend of mine.

We arrived and were treated just as rudely and often ignored.  The order was wrong and the attitude of the server was that we were inconveniencing her by asking for more water.

The sushi was decent - the fish seemed fresh, which was a nice change from the last time I was at Sushi Hai.  But the service is absolutely HORRIBLE.  So horrible that I can't justify spending that kind of money as a way to reward bad behavior.

There are too many other sushi restaurants to give this one a third chance.

Sushi Sasa is a chic little retaurant which sits on the corner of 15th and Platte in the Highlands. We almost drove right by and would have missed it had we not seen the sign for parking in the tiny little lot out back.

Upon entering the restaurant, I took in the modern minimalist decor. It has a romatic yet sophisticated feel and reminded me of hip Center City restaurants back in Philadelphia. We had made reservations (which I do suggest on busy weekend nights) and were promtly shown to our table near the sushi bar.

Our server was prompt and informative suggesting the cut and sauce for our sauteed calamari appetizer. Taking his suggestion, we tried the calamari with spicy Korean sauce and sauteed vegetables. It was very good, as were the rolls we ordered. I highly suggest the Diablo Roll with its ginger dipping sauce - delicious! We also had a roll who's name I cannot remember but, it was a combination of spicy yet sweet and included slivers of strawberries. I've tried sushi with fruit before and usually it's a flop with the sweetness overwhelming the taste of the fish, but this roll was a perfect blend of flavors.

We also tried a spicy tuna roll (my favorite sushi staple) also quite good, but not the best I've ever had. We had been starving upon arrival and enthusiastically devoured our sushi. By the time our server offered dessert there was no room left in our stomachs. I had only to polish off the last drops of my Strawberry Acai Martini and our meal was complete.

So far, I've been surprised by the quality of sushi I've tried in Denver considering there is no ocean nearby. Sushi Sasa does an exellent job though I do think they could come up with a few more unique rolls to offer on the menu. All in all, they won us over and we now have another option to quell our sushi fix.

This has got to be one of the most inconspicuous restaurants ever. Sushi Sasa has no exterior lighting and only very subtle signage that you won't see until you're literally at the door. They're doing something right, though, as the restaurant was packed virtually the entire time we were there.

The interior decor was simple and sophisticated, and it comes as no surprise that the food followed-suit by being refined and understated; you won't find 4" diameter mega-rolls dripping with fifteen different sauces here. Rather, our meal was elegant, fresh and worth taking some time to appreciate.

As others have noted, the Diablo roll was a favorite. Dipped in the ponzu sauce that it comes with, each bite starts with a bright salty-citrusy note that plays off the rich creaminess of the avocado and other ingredients (...that I can't remember).

We also relished the salmon tartar roll. I don't know what made it so good, but if it wasn't my friend's 40th birthday, I may have created a diversion in order to swipe more than my fair share of this one. ("Look! A bear!")

I didn't love the oyster nigiri nor the deep-fried shrimp heads that came with the wonderful sweet shrimp nigiri. It's just that I really don't like eating the heads off  of things, fried or otherwise, and my experience with the oyster reconfirmed my long-standing distaste for those nasty little boogers. Neither of these complaints were the fault of Sushi Sasa, though.

We enjoyed great service, too. Our waitress was more than patient with our waffling and indecision, offering helpful suggestions along the way. I loved the fact that Sushi Sasa offers, essentially, prix fixe sushi platters at a three different per-person price levels ($35, $65 and $100, I think). This was was we ordered, and even at the $35 level, we had plenty of food.

i love it when i find great food gems in a new city! it makes the (work) journey just that much more worth it.

here are some of my incoherent (but of course, relevant) thoughts:

:: really? should i try sushi in a land-locked state?
:::: this has got to be some of the freshest fish i have ever had. there are a few selections flown in straight from japan, and while higher in price, myohmy, are they worth it! major thumbs up for the blue fin tuna sashimi. and the yellowtail is *always* a winner.

:: what about if i don't eat fish?
:::: ok, a little bit tricky, but there are many non-aquatic options on the menu too! beef tenderloin with uni butter, skewers with chicken, tempura vegetables, and salads. we called ahead to make sure our whole party's tastes were met, and the host basically read the whole menu in a friendly fashion! (thanks for calling K!)

:: hmm, rolls or sashimi?
:::: ordinarily, i would say both, but at Sasa, you really don't need to order both to get full. the sashimi slices are awesome value for money and are sliced doubly as thick as served here in the bay area -- for half the price.  we ordered two rolls, and while tasty, were not anything special to me. stick to the pure sashimi and any small plates that catch your fancy.

:: save room for dessert?
::: YES!  the cheesecake and banana fritters were a crowd pleaser.

:: can i walk in?
:::: we saw many walk-ins, and the wait for them was about 30-40 minutes. with a reservation, we were seated very promptly.

:: where should i park?
:::: there is a private lot next to the unmarked restaurant (but the Sushi Sasa Parking Lot sign across the street gave it away). it's a little bit of a squeeze, but those reserved spots free up after 6pm, so pounce!

:: when am i coming back?
:::: i can't wait to Sasa back over!

Chic, check. Popular with the well-heeled locals, check. Pro sushi chefs, check. Best sushi in Denver? Nope. The tuna roll that I had tasted less than fresh, the wasabi was very uneven, the ginger was limp and tasteless, and the miso was generic. I was pondering the discrepancy between this experience and the reviews of the place when I came across the answer by dumb chance. After eating lunch I was waiting for a friend and sat at the sushi bar chatting with the chefs as they cut and packaged dozens and dozens of tuna fillets. I asked how long the fillets would last and the much acclaimed owner/chef answered, "oh, a week or so." Maybe I'm naive, but that's not what I think of when someone says their sushi is fresh.

Yes, I know this place is expensive but I think it's totally worth it.  When I dream of sushi, this is where I dream of going.

Fantastic service, great vibe, and chic place to be.

As a side note, I highly recommend making reservations.  It is always packed and to get a great table, make a reservation.

This was my third or fourth visit over the years and I believe it only gets better.  Everything is fresh, clean and pleasing to the eye and palate.

Hats off to chef Wayne for figuring out how to have edamame stand out from the crowd without ruining the sheer simplicity and nature of the dish.  Be sure to order the salmon and yellowtail new style and the diablo roll for sure. I have been to Japan and seen the market and eaten fish so fresh I swear it was still swimming and Sasa is not far behind.

The chefs behind the bar were ultra friendly and a little bit funny too, which does not happen at most sushi restaurants, and the wait staff and manager were most attentive.  We felt welcome and appreciated for sure.

I don't think you can go wrong with anything here.  I was a Den fan in the early years (Japon if I didn't feel like dealing with the pomp and circumstance) but I have to say that Sasa now owns me (except for random Tuesday night sushi when we hit Kiki's on S. Colorado Blvd.-fresh, inexpensive and easy).

Two gripes:
1. The bartender was unfriendly.  Maybe he was having a bad day, in which case he is excused.  If he was just busy, then get more help.
2. The bathrooms were a bit dirty - paper all over the floor and water every where.  After a busy Friday night, those need to be checked every hour.

And to the couple standing next to us at the bar....move over.  There is plenty of room for all and neither of you were THAT pretty to be the center of attention.

I will be back soon Sasa, soon.

This place was deliciouso.  I sat at the sushi bar for lunch and had the chirasi bowl.  I watched the sushi chef make it and it was beautiful.  The fish was delicious.  It also contained pickled garlic, which was unexpectedly tasty.  I'd love to go back and try other items.

Sushi Sasa was so so so good!  Every piece of sushi we had was excellent.  You have to try the Diablo.  It was unlike anything I had had before.  We also had the spicy tuna, caterpillar, and lobster tempura.  All were wonderful.  The service was excellent too.  I cannot wait to go back!

Hmm.  Not sure what's going on with Sasa.  I popped in last night with a friend from out of town.  I had raved on and on about how good it was and had her ready to try it.  We ordered an appetizer, which was tasty and as expected.  However, when our sushi showed up, my friend just looked at me as if to say ... "really?"  We saved commentary until after leaving, but let's just say that things....oh....weren't as fresh as I had seen on my previous visits.  We looked down to find some rather dried out pieces of fish laid over rice.  Also -- WHAT was up with the tuna rolls?  They were rolled mighty thin, like the diameter of a nickel or something.   Thankfully, I'm not experiencing side pains or anything crazy like that.  I'll probably give it one more chance but, $70 later, Sasa left me disappointed and embarrassed.  My friend commented on the walk to the car that she had experienced better sushi at Wegman's, which is a grocery store chain in her area.   One star.  Sure, the app was great, but that was a tempura-aioli concoction.  I have little patience for bad sushi and that was the main reason for our visit.

I have not yet found the holy grail of sushi in Denver, and since I recently moved from Seattle and was spoiled by fresh fish there, I am not holding my breath. But Sushi Sasa is the best I've had here so far. The inside is classy, subdued and intimate. I don't think it's ever not packed, in spite of the complete lack of signage outside. The sashimi was fresh and we tried a few rolls that were tasty if not entirely creative. But I prefer sashimi so I was happy. The service was not the friendliest but I get the aesthetic they are going for, so no biggie to me. If I were born and raised in a landlocked state, no doubt I'd give this 5 stars.

So, the sushi here is wonderful...

We went there and got the chef's selection plate, such a good idea for all sushi eaters, enthusiasts and beginners alike.  You can tell them how adventurous you want to be and they will create a plate for you that fits your needs.  All you need to do is ask.

I would have given this place 5 stars, however, after showing up for our reservations, we were seated downstairs.  This would have been fine, had we been going for a fun group dinner.  But, not the case - this was my boyfriend taking me out for dinner on my birthday.  The acoustics downstairs are terrible and there isn't much space down there.  That being said, one very loud group of people were quite close to us.  I asked to be moved, and the host said he couldn't do anything about it (it was Friday evening), but to tell us to make sure we request an upstairs table next time.  So we had to eat our dinner sans conversation, because we couldn't hear each other anyway.  So be warned if you want to have a romantic dinner there - request a table upstairs.

Ok, what a disappointment, a big disappointment. I think this place gets good reviews because this is a very chic place, very NYC. That's the only reason I can find because the food was not that great. It seems as thought the chef is trying to be new and innovative but just fails. The sushi seems to lack it's sushiness, if that makes sense! The other menu items are not outstanding either like I was expecting.

Had no problem getting reservations the day of.  Seated right away at the sushi bar... Good atmosphere, service was good.  our sushi chef was friendly.
just gonna go through some of the stuff we tried
tuna: OK
salmon sashimi: good, fatty flavorful
unagi: dry, flavorless
monkfish liver: was cold and bland
Yellowtail hand roll: small chopped up pieces of fish, have had better
diablo roll: OK nothing special
king mackrel: this was the best thing we had all night, very good would come back to just eat this
hawiian chopped yellowtail: good albeit small for $16
Scallop: chopped up pieces of scallop mixed with mayo, tated good but would have rather had only scallop

The sushi rice was underseasoned.  Wish more sushi places spent more time on the rice, afterall about half of what your are eating is rice.  The wasabi was the generic standard neon green stuff.  Wish they had fresh!.  Overall we paid just over $120 with a couple drinks and we filled up!  Good value, in my opinion.  so why only 3 stars?, everything was good but (aside from the mackrel) I think could get similar stuff at most other sushi joints.  seems like I missed out on the uni.   maybe next time we'll try the omekase.  Haven't tried sushi den yet but looking forward to comparing the two.

I just went back to Sushi Sasa tonight and had yet another excellent meal. I suppose since it's fresh in my mind, I can list a few of the more notable dishes:

- Hawaiian Chopped Yellowtail: This dish is worth trying for the presentation alone. I wouldn't know where to begin slicing avocados into a sphere around yellowtail. The sauce is really tasty as well; I highly recommend it .
- Atomic Shrimp Dynamite: Nothing at all like your typical dynamite. Tempura shrimp and asparagus served with a delicious spicy mayonnaise-ish sauce. I get this dish every time.
- Tamago: This is the only place I know of that makes their tamago in-house. And you can really taste the difference. I would try it even if you don't think you're a fan of eggs.
- Spider Rolls: Really exceptional here. The soft-shell crab is always great if you're a fan.
- Amaebi: This is hands-down the best raw sweet shrimp I've ever tasted. The shrimp heads served with this dish were especially good tonight.

Beyond that, the green tea is really excellent, and it was only when I went to the bathroom that I appreciated the beautiful minimalist design of this place. I tried the chocolate lava cake for the first time tonight, and it was spot-on as well - warm chocolate cake with a subtle hint of raspberry. Great service as always. I can't think of any complaints for this place, but I guess you get what you pay for here - definitely pricey!

Was on a business trip to Denver.

My hosts took me here for sushi.  All I can say is that it's solid.  As others have stated, the space is simple, clean, and modern -- In a trendy art gallery kind of way.  With four people at our table, some who hadn't eaten much sushi, we went with the basics... Salmon, yellowtail, tuna, etc.

The most extreme pieces we had were uni with quail egg.  It may be cliche with sushi places, but my barometer of a good place is their uni.  Sushi Sasa passed the test.

Service was impeccable.  I forgot the name of our waiter, but he was on all the time, ready with suggestions without skipping a beat.  He picked out the cold sake, which was a hit.

I learned later that some big time people in Denver apparently stated that Sushi Sasa is one of the two best sushi places in Denver.  I believe them.

I'm not the most experienced with sushi. I've had it a hand full of times, but never felt "in love" with it. This restaurant might have turned me into a sushi lover.
The space inside is fairly small, but it's a very soothing atmosphere. Fairly trendy, but it's not enough to make me gag.
The appetizers and sushi were fresh and amazing. It's fairly expensive, but I'd rather pay a bit more for really good sushi anyway. I don't recommend this place if you are looking for a quick bite. Take your time and really enjoy a good 2 hour meal. On top of it, I've never had a more delicious desert. I tried one myself and nibbled on some friend's dishes as well. I don't think I could've picked which one I liked more.

Sushi Sasa is just really good, fresh sushi.  There are no gimmicks, whether in the interior of the restaurant or the types of rolls.  Sushi Sasa does not try to wow you with how creative it can get with its rolls, but simply presents you with well prepared food.  Too many sushi restaurants try to come up with the next big roll, but they lack the ability to serve you a roll that showcases how fresh the fish is.  Sushi Sasa is not one of those restaurants.  This is not to say that Sushi Sasa does not have creative rolls, but the chefs always make the main focus of the roll the fish.

I think this is a good place but the prices were a bit too high for the grade of sushi which is why I've deducted some stars.  The location and ambiance is mostly what you pay for.  They do have some unique signature dishes which adds to the price.  The grade of the main ingredient, fish, just doesn't justify the price.  I know of a few places that charge quite a bit less for the same quality of meat.  I do like it alot more than Sushi Den by the way.

For all you non-believers, Denver has does have great sushi.  Most Denverites and many outsiders know about Sushi (which is great).  However, Sasa still seems to be undiscovered.  If you haven't been you need to check it out.
Some suggestions:
Make a reservation.  Even on weekdays they can randomly fill up.
Ask to be seated upstairs.  The host will tell you most a lot of guests like it downstairs...but I have yet to find one.
Try some cold Saki
Ask your server for his/her fav
The cod is great
Finish with a health serving of green tee
Great place to go after Bronco's game.  It is in walking distance.

As a very spoiled former coastal Californian I can say that this restaurant makes me proud to be a Denverado, or Denverinian as it were.
I expect 4 things walking into a sushi bar.

1.) Fresh fish... CHECK.
2.) Clean/ sterile/fun  looking environment... CHECK
3.) Interesting presentation... Check
4.) Good service... CHECK

Sushi Sasa sold us on their perfect little dining experience, I don't even feel the need to experiment with any others.

Seriously people, AMAZING FOOD... AMAZING SERVICE!!!
One complaint:
They ran out of most of the desserts before we arrived ( my belly and pocketbook are grateful)

Everytime I go in, I come prepared for what is easily the best sushi in Denver. The people here are great and there isn't one thing that I've found to complain about. The staff is amazing and all the guys at the sushi bar are very personable. I had told Wayne that I would be updating my review and had asked for his permission to post pictures of the two desserts we got. The chocolate lava cake and the chocolate mousse cake.

Holy moly, I always expect the greatest sushi but for them to have stellar desserts as well is the icing on the cake. If you are having trouble deciding what to eat, the bar is a good place to sit because the chef's will always have something to recommend if you take the time to ask them, granted they aren't super busy. It's easy to sit back and get accustom to the atmosphere.

So, for the freshest best sushi in Denver, stop by sushi sasa. I do recommend making reservations as they fill up. I do travel and have tried sushi places around the country, I still have to say that sushi Sasa reigns king as far as my experience has gone.

5 stars hardly does justice to the amazing meal that I enjoyed last night at Sushi Sasa. I have eaten at Sasa a number of times before last evening and have always been impressed by the quality of their fish and the stellar service. I normally gravitated toward ordering their special rolls and have always been very pleased with the flavors. When we stopped in last evening, we decided to mix things up and let the chef decide what we would be dining on for our main course. The sushi/sashimi chef's choice can be ordered at almost any price point starting at $50, which was the amount we chose to spend. Our meal started out with the bluefin jalapeno sashimi appetizer that was to die for. Our chef's plate took a while to come out of the kitchen, but we passed the time by enjoying reasonable sake options off the menu. An interesting choice was the sparkling Hou Hou Shu sake that tasted a bit like a cross between a brut champagne and sake. When our dinner arrived, it was not only presented beautifully, but looked incredibly appetizing. There was crab marinated in saffron with creme fraiche, cucumber wrapped rolls, a whole deep fried mackerel, octopus, dry cooked tuna, and a whole host of sushi pieces with a spicy ponzu sauce. Everything on the plate was fabulous! In fact, we ordered a roll in the case that we wouldn't like the chef's choices and we barely even touched it.

I am looking forward to heading back to Sasa again to try more of the amazing cuts of fish and creations that the chefs come up with in the kitchen. I was a little reluctant to let someone else decide what I would have for dinner, but I know now that the chefs at Sasa will be deciding what I eat on all of my future visits.

AWESOME place for a party.  A friend hosted their 21st there and what a blast.   We had a private room downstairs with our own seating, servers and bar.

There was a quality sushi spread for the party with great variety sushimi, rolls, tempura...all the stuff you would want.  The private bar had a nice bartender that made some drinks worthy of a 21st birthday and a fat tip.

Can't comment on the casual dining experience but great for a party.

In my opinion, here is the way to do Sasa:
Make a reservation at the sushi bar, and sit up close to watch Chef Wayne.
Start a diablo roll.....and then on to Omakase!!!! Holy cow, this is good!
You can do it in $60, $80, $100 levels...I usually do the $100 and tell him it is for 2....They divide everything on to 2 plates (and really almost the same amount of food as if you both did $100 individually).  During this tasting some of courses are tartar, oysters, crab, their famous black cod, sashimi....other things that you would never know to order.  I have had such a great experience every time I have done this...never disappointed.  When you watch the chefs, you can see how much thought, prep, and artfulness go into everything they make.  Presentation was/is amazing...but, don't attempt to take any pictures (like me)....not "zen"...

I have been to Sushi Sasa a few times.  Every time that I have been there the sushi has been great! The last time we went we sat at the sushi bar which was very comfortable, not cramped like at some restaurants.  I tried the strawberry lemon infused vodka with soda which is now my new favorite drink.  We also tried the Wasabi Tiramisu  at the recommendation of our sushi chef and it was so good that I ate the whole thing!  I always look forward to going to Sushi Sasa and can't wait to be back.

I've had a ton of Sushi all around town. This place is something very special. I don't even know where to begin......Omakase!!!! Chefs choice. You can order this in different dollar amounts $60, $80, $100. When the lady and I went we did the $100 amount split between the two of us. It was incredible to say the least. We will for sure be returning to this place.

Sushi Sasa is hands down the best sushi in Denver.  I've been to Sushi Den on numerous occasions and every other sushi joint in Denver, but none of them can hold a candle to Sushi Sasa.   The Hawaiin Chopped Yellowtail is one of the best sushi dishes I've ever had.  My friend and I actually ordered another order of it at the end of our dinner.  The fish is superbly fresh for an inland sushi joint and the rice is top notch.  My wife is not much of a sushi fan, but loves eating here.  My father was in Japan for two years and claims this is some of the best sushi he's had in the states.  Sit at the sushi bar and converse with the sushi chefs as they're a wealth of information.

I only did takeout, so I suspect my rating would be a 4 if I ate in - the place is very cool and clearly where you need to be on a Friday night.  Had the Diablo roll and a yellowtail roll.  Both were really yummy, but had a bit too much rice for my taste.  They fell apart, but that could have been because of the take-out.  I'd like to come back here and eat in.

Sushi Sasa is perhaps my favorite sushi restaurant in Denver.

It feels like heresy to say so, because I LOVE Hapa and of course Sushi Den, but Sushi Sasa is just phenomenal.

These are the reasons why:
1. Simplicity
2. Freshness
3. Atmosphere
4. Freshness
5. Simplicity

Did I mention that Sushi Sasa is deliciously fresh and simple?  Those are the two words you want to hear when you go for sushi.  Sasa delivers.  Period.

I've eaten at a lot of sushi restaurants, and I've been eating sushi my entire life.....that being said, this was one of the best sushi meals I've ever had.

I went with a group of friends and had a really great time. The location is a little hard to find, but the space is really great. Plan to spend some time there though....it's not a quick eat and go place, more of a social 3 or 4 hour long dinner. I'll warn that this is a restaurant for serious sushi eaters, the menu may be slightly intimidating to novices.

We started off with chicken skewers and mussels....both were fantastic. The salad and miso soup were next, both good. Then we ordered a very large amount of sushi. The standouts were definitely the "live" octopus, kobe beef, flying fish, and hamachi. Amazingly we managed to fit in desert too. I can highly recommend the chocolate cake, banana fritters and green tea ice cream.

I will definitely be going back.

Sushi Sasa is offically my new favorite sushi resturant in CO. From the bar manager to the sushi chef & waitstaff, everyone was super friendly. We sat at the sushi bar and the chef kept sending us whatever we desired. I will be back for sure.

I love the Omakase especially when Chey Wayne is in charge of the Omakase. He always remember to let me try something new. One day he should be as famous as Morimoto.

Always a memorable and satisfying night at Sasa!
Food is always high quality, masterfully presented, and drop dead delicious!
The service is always friendly and courteous, and their suggestions and recommendations are spot on.  The service was also prompt but not hurried.

The restaurant is simple, modern and calming.  Not trendy and no cliches like many popular sushi restaurants.

The spot to be is at the sushi bar, where watching the chefs in action is a pure treat.  I was seated at Chef Jesus' station and he such an artist and great to talk to -- everything he prepares is a pleasure to watch.

I don't think it is very expensive when compared to Sushi Den, I actually think it's a great value compared to Sushi Den because you are not waiting forever waiting for a table, not subjected to attitude from the staff, and hurried through your meal.  Sasa has a nice selection of sakes and even a good bottle of cold sake is actually very reasonably priced.

Like everyone else, I really liked the Hawaiian Yellowtail appetitzer and the Diablo roll.  Monkfish liver is to die for -- it was both light and buttery rich and smooth at the same time.  Their wasabi tiramisu was the perfect finish to an awesome night.

Definitely try the Omakase.  The couple next to us had that and they couldn't stop talking about it.  The comment of the night at the sushi bar was "it is the best thing I ever had in my mouth!"

Forget Sushi Den, Sasa is my favorite sushi restaurant in Denver!

SaSa is by far one of the best sushi restaurants that I have enjoyed from coast to coast. Even though everything about this restaurant is top notch -- the service, the decor, etc -- what makes it really special is the creativity of the chef that you can experience by ordering omakase.

When you're ready to graduate beyond drowning your nigiri and rolls in soy sauce and truly understand what sushi is about, order a chef's selection of sashimi or omakase (literally meaning "leave it to the one you trust"). You can ask for quality over quantity to get some especially unique items on your table, but don't worry, we're not talking about crazy things like fish offal here, we're talking about something more than just the usual yellowtail, and salmon. You simply tell your server the dollar amount that you wish to spend on these selections, though I would recommend spending at least $60 on sashimi for two along with other selections from the menu, and about $60 or more per person for omakase.
