Very good food. We went on a Tuesday night and there were not a lot of others in the restaurant. We sat at the bar near the corner. They had two sushi chefs and a waitress. The chefs were on top of it and made what we desired and offered up a few creative ideas. We had one hot sake which had a little lemony flavor. Also came with miso soup. The drinks came through the waitress and she was a little rough around the edges and not on top of her game of service. Beyond that it was a good experience. Better than a buffet for the same price, two people ran about $80.
Elvis was out of the country, something about losing his passport. Yikes.
Love me tender,
Love me sweet,
Never let me go.
You have made my life complete..
Elvis, oh Elvis. Not only do you make the ambiance festive, you create flavorful and interesting sushi. You are a saucy man with a big personality. I swear I've seen you sneak sake shots while making my upside down shrimp and salmon hand rolls. What do you put in your pesto? Magic? You are a fine pusher of the all-you-can-eat menu, you play us like a fiddle.
..and we love you so.
I LOVE this place!! Elvis is the man. Plain and simple. The sushi is top notch. My favorite is the "el presidente". Oh, just typing it makes me want one. Anyways, The service is getting better and the atmosphere is always fun. A great place to eat sushi with friends. Make sure you get a seat at the bar. Hats off to Elvis!!
The one person that makes Sushi Ring worth going back to is Elvis. He really is a great guy and always very helpful. Of course, he wants you to get the "all you can eat" so you spend more $$, but you don't have to. Plus, he will let you change your mind and do "all you can eat" if you end up eating more than you expected. Plus he once told my boyfriend "No money, no honey" so you gotta love him for giving great advice!
On top of all that, the sushi is good, and that's why you are going there in the first place. Generous portions, fresh fish, and good calamari. Make sure to order the Pesto Salmon roll...love it!
Im going to judge from the full experience...
First thing's first... the food...
The food is great! I always get the all you can eat option and its not like a buffet where you only have a hand full of rolls and fish... You basically order what you want from a full menu as you go :] For the price ... it is definitely worth it.
Now for the service... a WHOLE different story. The experience I have had with the service there is FAR from pleasant. One of the waitresses there had a really bad attitude and just got the impression that she hated working there and dealing with the customers. The sushi chef named Elvis is awesome though... i love his name hahaha... So sit at the bar if you can.
If it wasn't for the bad service and small dining space, I would give it 5 stars. The only reason I go back is because the food, all you can eat option, and elvis!!!!! hahaha!
Is six stars possible?
Okay, so let's say you want a refined sushi meal - if you're headed to a place in a strip mall for said refined meal, you're in trouble as it is.
But if you want to gorge yourself on some mighty fine and fresh sushi, this is the place you need to come. Sushiland? No. Blue C? No. Todai? God no.
Situated across the street from Silver Lake in a little strip mall, I've seen studio apartments larger than Sushi Ring. It doesn't matter - pull up a seat at the L shaped sushi bar if you can, or sit at one of the tables looking out the window, and you'll forget all about size. Size doesn't matter, right? ;)
The head sushi chef is Elvis, as is noticeable by the massive amount of Elvis memorabilia he has. He's a cheeky guy - he will tease you and convince you that you're not done even when you are, you really are. The rest of the staff is ridiculously attentive and just as good at making sushi.
Get the all you can eat and gorge yourself on albacore. I've eaten at a LOT of sushi restaurants and I have NEVER had albacore so perfect. Oh my God, I could've made a meal out of the albacore alone. And for the love of all things holy, do not use soy sauce on it! It comes pre-sauced.
There's a flat screened TV in there, usually showing sports (it was the Seahawks when I went).
They will make things for you that aren't on the menu. I had the pleasure of a lovely cucumber and sashimi salad, which I received after being asked the question "do you like cucumbers?" (I mean, really, who doesn't?) My mom, when asked if she wanted some mochi ice cream (get the green tea mochi ice cream, seriously), turned it down and was offered melon instead. Out of the fridge came a gorgeous half of cantalope - a slice was taken and chunks were made of it and then doused with a helping of plum wine. There are no words, you guys. No words at all.
Go. Or don't, that'll just leave more room at the bar for me, but go. (And if you've never sat at a sushi bar and you're not sure if you want to, you want to here. Believe me.)
Probably my favorite sushi bar ever. Elvis is the greatest guy ever he's so tight. The food is really good but make sure you order half of everything so you can try more things. Makesure you also have to sit at the bar or you won't have a good experience. spider roll is the absolute must. Minus one star for the small space and not so private ambiance. And the prices are really high, but you get good quality so maybe it evens out.
Do I accept this place to be my wife?
No, I refuse to wear the sushi ring.
Forgive my corniness, but I just had to.
I will tell you that Sushi Ring is one of those places that got me into sushi. Not because I loved the place, but it made me want to find better sushi places.
Although my palette was inexperienced, at the time, for sushi, I could tell that their fish was not that fresh. The fish had no taste.
I will tell you that I prefer this place over Super China Buffet, but that doesn't say much. Or does it?
They do have a lot of rolls and they are so bright and beautiful, but why do they all stay the same? Could it be that they over-saturate the rolls to cover up the not-so-fresh fish? How many rolls exactly have the same sauces on them?
I guess the rolls all taste the same, but with variances in texture. The taste and texture of the fish exude not-so-fresh fish. Anyways, why am I SPAMming not-so-fresh? It is because I would rather have myself a musubi than this place, it just taste, well, fresher.
And damn it I will eat as many baked mussels I want and you shouldn't complain? It is all-you-can-eat right? Look, I'm Filipino, we will hoard your damn food inventory if we want to. If you don't want us to, don't offer all-you-can-eat and complain or limit how many mussels we eat.
And no, I'm not a food snob on his quest to find the most expensive food. I'm a foodie, I love good food cheap or not.
This place is the polar opposite of Umi Sake House with their prices, but both fall for the same demise, over-saturation of sauces.
I was grouchy by the time i drove all the way up to Silverlake from downtown Seattle, but all the crazy traffic and gas exhaust was worth it. My friend Milo dared me to eat more sushi than him, and I did.
In fact, Elvis (the cheeky, elderly sushi chef) INSISTED upon it. He wouldn't let me finish something without getting another order out of me! It was seriously a relief that he let me fufill my never-ending sushi fantasy without a single glance of disgust or eyeroll. I was free to pig out.
And the quality was great, so maybe I showed up on a good day when everything was super fresh. Hamachi usually gets a "hmmmm" out of me, but Elvis got more than that with the yellowtail he served my friend and me.
They were out of whitefish, albacore, and the big scallops, which put just a tiny damper on my fantasy coming true, but you know what erased all the disappointment?
UPSIDE-DOWN SHRIMP. That's all I'm going to say. In fact, that's one of the reasons Milo promised me I wouldn't regret this place. We ordered 5. Just order some and you'll see. I'm still reminiscing.
I can't wait to go back and see Elvis, and the other people who work there. They were all smiling, concerned with our enjoyment, and said "goodbye" like friends would say it. And don't let the occasional business of the establishment put you off...just do what we did: eat slowly and eat a LOT so that most of the customers file out before your done! :D
I've been twice now and had great service. Sitting at the sushi bar is where it's at. For around $30 you get all you can eat of some fairly high quality fish. Some interesting rolls and your standard fair. The hot tea is a nice herbal brew. I recommend the mountain roll for rolled sushi and the upside down shrimp for nigiri. Good stuff!
I just returned from Sushi Ring and MAN am i stuffed! I took the kids there hoping to save a bit from our usual $45 at Sushi Zen. The chef (possibly the owner?) was very kind and accommodating, and suggested i just order the all-you-can-eat for myself and a la carte rolls for the kids, rather than having to pay the full price for each of us ($23.95 adults, $15.95 kids). This appealed to me since my youngest is 3 and i didn't want to spend $15.95 on her. As it turned out, she ended up eating more than i did, stuffing salmon into her mouth like a hungry bear.
There was a HUGE party dining there at the time we arrived, so the one server was overwhelmed and unable to manage serving the entire place in a timely fashion. But everyone was trying as hard as they could to keep the customers happy. They seemed extremely understaffed, but as a new restaurant i can understand the financial decision to keep it that way as long as possible. We waited quite a while for her to take our order, in fact, i had to get up and ask the sushi chef for the order form because the kids were starving and couldn't wait. We also waited a long time to get our check. I think that on any other night this would not have been the case.
This place does not offer a buffet of prepared Sushi rolls and nigiri. Instead, everything is made to order. You fill out the sheet and they get to work making it. You get a little bit at a time, then wait a bit, and then you get more. The quality is much better than the buffets i've been to. My children were a bit impatient and when each little tray arrived, they gulped it down and immediately asked for more. So keep this in mind if you bring kids who love sushi. I had to just let them grab everything and eat it while i starved until the next round arrived.
This was actually a good thing. I did eventually manage to stuff myself with more sushi than i should have. It would have been worse, and potentially more wasteful, had i done what i do at Todai and filled my plate with everything all at once. Our total with tip came to $50--more than i was intending on spending, but my kids ended up eating way more than i would have paid for at a regular sushi place. Overall it's a great value for the money if you're hungry. Lunch is $18.95. I will go back by myself next time and sample some of the secret things that aren't on the menu.
Let me rebuke some negative responses that I see have been made.
First off, I have NEVER had old fish as Sushi Ring. It has always been top notch and I doubt Elvis would ever put up with stinky fish.
Secondly, for the person that got slow/lousy service sitting out in the 'cheap seats', yeah they suck. We tried that once before and learned that if there aren't seats at the bar, you camp out until they are available!
The only reason I would every tell you to stay away from Sushi Ring, is so there is room for me at the bar on Fridays!
Think about why one eats sushi. For me it's the enjoyment. It's not to master the art of shovelling 20+pieces of varying rolls in a frat style orgy. It's about the quality and taste of the fish.
I like this place alot. The owner is fun and entertaining and stays busy in the feeding frenzy. When I have friends who need big hunky steaks to fill em I bring em here. You have to eat the rice or there's a charge. They need you to fill up on all you can eat rolls full of rice so they make a profit. So, if you need to burst a button PLEASE GO HERE and you will be satisfied. If you need something more you might look elsewhere.
as far as american sushi goes this place does well. The staff is friendly, the sushi is firm and is well priced. I have done the all you can eat and walked out very content and very full..way too full. i found that their unique rolls compliment the PNW passion for sushi, which is nice as every region should bring its own flair into its cuisine.
Sushi is not for the faint of heart, if you arent a fan of seafood or sticky rice or imitation crab then its not for you.
I would give sushi ring a try if you are new to sushi or sashimi and dont know where to start. Give them a go
Pound for pound one of the best overall" "All-you-can-eat" places in Washington. Better than the other celebrated All you-can-eat-sushi places, the chef/possible owner Elvis, is a very funny, kind and overall good sushi chef.
The price (approximately $25.00/person) is worth it if you can take advantage of their "long rolls" and various nigiris (Load up on the unagi nigiri as it's pretty tasty), don't be shy about ordering the mussels, because some appetizers are also included in the all you can eat menu.
Funny, fast and kind service is what you'll expect here and when you're ready to give up...look Elvis right in the eye and say "I SURRENDER!" You'll leave feeling satisfied, you may not receive the highest quality of sushi (that you may find at the more plush Seattle sushi bars) but for a change in scenery (Silver Lake/Everett) and an overall good eating experience, avoid going to the east side or busy downtown Seattle for the all-you-can-eat, come on out to SUSHI RING!
Thank the chef and tip your wait staff!! You'll reap the rewards in the end!!!
We heard good reviews of this place so decided to check it out. A small place (mainly a sushi bar with a few tables) in a strip mall across from silver lake in Everett. The staff was very friendly. We got to meet Elvis the sushi chef. Very hospitable and made sure we served. We could either order A La Carte or do all you can eat (23.95 weekday lunch and 28.95 Fri and Sat dinner). They even let you a la carte until you hit the all you can eat price and change. We just did a la carte not know what to expect. The food was decent. Not the best and not the worst. But the food came fast. You order, you blink and the roll is on the counter. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience. They really pushed the all you can eat and try to make your experience a quick sit, eat and pay experience. I would go back if I wanted quick sushi or looking for a sushi binge.
This sushi bar is very small, with a main sushi bar and just a few other tables. The all you can eat is very pricy, upwards $30-and that's lunch! The main sushi chef (elvis) is very nice and accomodating, but his two mexican waitresses are just plain rude and very unfriendly. The service was awful...and if I pay $30+ for lunch, I expect decent service! The all you can eat comes with ice cream, so when we asked for seconds....she gave us attitude, and said we are only allowed one serving! Excuse me....isn't this
all you can eat!! Hello, the ice cream is the
cheapest thing we ate, practically on par with miso! Sorry, I'm on a tangent! The sushi is very good, some say it's fresh, eh I'm not sure...the
freshest sushi I've tasted is in Vancouver! Anyway, get the upside down shrimp, salmon skin roll, and the silver lake!! I would have given
3 stars but the service is very poor. Go here if you don't care about service, or if ur hella hungry for some pricy and decent sushi, and be sure to sit at the bar! I was with an 8-table top. But for me not sure I'll be back. My choice for sushi is wasabi bistro or umi sake
This place is a great all-you-can-eat sushi bar....the staff is extremely friendly and the prices are reasonable. the place is always packed, but serivice is very fast. the all you can eat is great.....all types of nigiri and rolls...i like it a lot and go there often with friends from work....you should try it.....every time i go to a sushi place, at the end, i get that sensation that i could have eaten a litlte bit more....here you are completly satisfied...
This is unfortunately the second time I visited this restaurant, and to my suprise the service was even worse than the first time.
The food itself was good, but there were way too many negatives to warrant anything above one star.
- It was an icebox in there. There was no heating whatsoever. Also, the tables were right across from the door and it was freezing outside.
- We had to wait forever to get any service at all. We arrived, waited about 30 minutes for the waitress to get our drink order, another 30 minutes to receive our drinks (how long does it take to serve up two beers and a water?) then 30 minutes later we got our order slip, another 20 to hand it back (we had to go bug them, the waitress was casually cleaning and wandering around the restaurant). then ANOTHER 30-50 minutes to get the first part of our meal. We were starving the whole time so it was gone in under 5 minutes and we found ourselves once again waiting for service! They never refilled my water, about a third of our orders never came, and the waitress spoke Spanish and very little English so communicating with her was a pain. I asked for no seeds on our order, and when it finally arrived it was all covered in seeds. She offers to go get me one roll without (a single roll when we ordered 5! did I mention we ordered the overpriced buffet?) and the roll (like much of our order) never came! I finally had enough when after waiting another half hour in the freezing cold restaurant I had to bug her about the roll and she hadn't the foggiest idea what I was talking about.
"Is our roll coming?" I ask.
"What? More soup?" she replied.
"Nevermind, can I have my bill?
"..." (obviously not comprehending what I'm saying)
"My bill? I want to pay for my meal, please."
"..." (still not comprehending...)
It was a nightmare. For the three of us, the total was a whopping undeserved $90!!!!!
