Quick, consistent, safe, "everyday" sushi.
Basic CA rolls/ Spicy Tuna runs ya $5-6, and there are creative specialty caterpillar type rolls from $8-12. Sashimi is meh. Brown rice available.
Box lunches are certainly large, but their teriyaki chicken and salmon taste kinda funky. Go for cheap sushi, knowing what you're there for, and you'll be happy.
Tempura is good and cheap. I also really like the unagi/avocado bowl.
I have never eaten at the restaurant, but my roommates and I order Sushi Q every single Thursday night. The delivery is always super fast and any hot items ordered are still hot upon delivery. I recommend the crunch roll, sushi q roll and the baked spicy salmon roll. These are all my favorites. They don't charge for delivery as long as you are within 3 miles of the restaurant. Not only that, but their sushi is all very reasonably priced. I recommend Sushi Q for a cheap easy sushi fix!
I almost walked out because it's not a sushi bar; you order like at a McD's and they bring you your food. However the high Yelp rating encouraged me to stay. Fish was surprisingly good! Fresh, firm, looked, smelled and tasted great. I'm seriously impressed. I thought I'd get more food for the money; not saying it's expensive but I thought I'd get bigger rolls/sashimi with my order. But I'll be back. Perfect for a quick and good sushi lunch in Hollywood!
Cheap lunch specials and they deliver!
I don't think the quality of their food is very good, so take it as a cheap take-out / delivery option at best. I wouldn't recommend the food to anybody except for people who work here and need sushi at their desk. The sushi isn't expensive and they have a good selection of rolls. Their bowls and bentos are all $5-$10 so they are a very good lunch option in Hollywood.
I only know of this place that delivers Japanese food in the Sunset+Vine area.
Edit: look up Hong Kong Bistro or Ismi Sushi: they deliver as well, but I feel all three are on the same playing field.
i love sushi q.
it's cheap and they deliver fast.. like 15 to 20 minutes.
the food is great.
love the chicken and beef yaki plate.
last week, i ordered 4 times. HAHA
that one time i ordered lunch and dinner. ^_^
i recommended this place to my friends and neighbors.
=)
This place is pretty cheap for sushi and a meal bento boxes, but their specialty rolls were bit pricey for me. I tried their BBQ beef bento box with tempura which was good but sushi didn't quite live up to my expectation.
I guess i was just disappointed with the sushi a little but if you're going for non-sushi items, it's not bad
Cheap Sushi anyone?
Wait, wait -- don't get too excited, I don't mean 2 buck [up]chuck of the sushi world. If you want some Japanese food (from rolls to yaki) that's tasty and won't break the bank, check out this joint.
Sushi Q is located in one of those little dingy strip malls in Hollywood. It's local (right next to 7-11) throws off all the tourist, yuppies, and general pains in arses that occupy Hollywood.
They are fast, the food is GREAT and the atmosphere is surprisingly zen. What do you think you'd get for 7 bucks? Well, the answer is good table service, great eats, and a full belly.
Okay, let me just put this disclaimer out by saying that there isn't that many good food options around my work (Hollywood/Highland area). You have all the crap pizzerias and fast food doesn't cut it after awhile. I know it's a tourist spot but for those that work in the vicinity there isn't much to choose from (within walking distance) --- especially for sushi until now.
An old coworker informed me of Sushi Q, which is about 2 blocks east from Highland on Sunset. As soon as I stepped inside I became quite impressed with their vast menu. With so many options I was left looking like a first timer trying to order coffee at Starbucks during the morning rush. To play it safe I ordered the beef teriyaki bento with 5 piece Cali roll, steamed rice, mixed veggie tempura, and miso soup.
Once I got my order, I was surprised to not see the beef smothered and covered in teriyaki sauce and the tempura lightly golden. The food quality was fairly good for the location that it was in, and the prices were not bad at all. My friends ordered the sushi and it was fairly fresh, but they did go pretty heavy on the rice and somewhat light on the fish. I wasn't complaining though, since I thought this was one of the better (if not the best) sushi places within 4 blocks of work. Next time, I'll order my own sushi rolls.
See ya there.
Sam
PS. They also offer free delivery with a $15 minimum
This is a great little neighborhood sushi place. Its small with 8 tables and only one waitress who is the sweetest thing on the face of the earth.
The sushi is traditional. Its nothing fancy but its good. The price reflects that. The menu is real varied. They have everything and pictures to go with it.
The sushi bowls arent that good. I recommend either getting a combo dinner (9 bucks for 4 pieces of sushi, teryiaki, tempura, rice and salad). If that's not your thing then please get the Catalina roll or the Dynamite roll. Yum! Free miso if you dine in. The Udon is pretty fantastic as well.
Its an intimate place so it works well as a cheap date or just a place to to eat while you catch up with an old friend. Its not to good for a group of friends...what with the lack of choices for alcoholic beverages.
And its closed on Sunday. Lame.
Great prices, great selections, great service and good food. It's not a traditional restaurant and more like a quick serve place but I really can't complain. Sure the food is probably prepared by Koreans and not Japanese people but it still tastes pretty good and you're not paying steep more traditional style restuarant prices. If you're too tired to cook and had a long day at work and craving some Japanese food without having to go wait in line or dress up to go to Kabuki (a few blocks down), this is the place to go!
I feel like the big bad wolf since people seem to enjoy Sushi Q.. but the sushi bowls really suck. The prices are actually quite cheap (specialty rolls and lunch boxes at less than $10 each) but the food reflects that. Quality is really only fair, service is ok, and design is not particularly alluring. The menu is amazing though and every description is followed by a picture!! But it is only a tease because the food is a bit of a let down. Selection is pretty good but I feel like most of the specialty rolls are just california roll spin offs.
Good place for quick and affordable take-out but don't expect it to satisfy a sushi craving. I suggest avoiding the unagi and avacado bowl though despite how good it sounds and the picture in the menu and the $6.95 price tag.
Great delivery!
Sushi Q makes me happy that I moved from Fairfax/Beverly to the Hollywood Hills... their sushi is consistently good, they deliver quickly, and it's really not that expensive. Selection isn't fantastic, but for lazy Sunday sushi noshing, it's the best.
I really wanted to like this place. It's walking distance from my house and has received great reviews so I was really excited. Well, I was sorely disappointed. The place itself is neat, clean and dare I even say cute. I was surprised to see that they had a counter and meny above it like a fast food restaurant. I thought that was really tacky. Sushi is not cheap so if I'm going to be spending the money I think table service is not too much to ask for. The two girls working the front were really nice and helpful. The menu has pictures of everything, (major plus). Everything on the menu "looked" great. The prices were also extremely reasonable when compared to some of the other places in the area, (under $10 per roll). But soon we found out why the prices were so "reasonable" When our sushi came out I almost had to take out a magnifying glass to see it. THESE WERE THE TINIEST ROLLS I'VE EVER SEEN! Basically, they were about half the size of rolls at any other sushi places i've ever been. So when you think about the price, it's realy not that cheap at all. I would have forgiven the size if the taste was good. Sadly, it wasn't. Totally bland and tasteless. We even got mango in one of our rolls and it was tasteless. Mango has such a strong flavor I really don't understand how they screwed that up.
Pros: helpful staff, clean interior, close.
Cons: price, size, taste, ordering system
So even though this place is SUPER close to my house, that is not enough incentive for me to ever go back.
Pros: clean and close
Cons: staff was ok, price, space, parking
here's a neat trick for the hollywood crowd: dinner and a movie can cost an arm and a leg, so hit up sushi q for some quick, fair-priced and fairly tasty sushi before you go and see your 15 dollar arclight movie just a few blocks over.
of course, don't do like we did and make the ever-costly amoeba stop in between and this plan makes a lot more sense.
this was really, really good! i just came back from there like five minutes ago with friends-- we got the crunch roll, the baked salmon roll, shrimp tempura plate, and the spicy tuna roll.
the best, i think, was the baked salmon, which was warm and delicious and topped with something white and yummy that might have been mayonaisse, but i'm not really sure.
plus, the prices are great!
the mochi is not that great, though, it's a little tough and not as soft and sweet as mochi should be. also, the shrimp tempura was WAY over-breaded, where you could open up the breading and see a tiny little shrimp hiding in there. i might as well have ordered a loaf of bread.
but overall, i would say it was a really good experience, and worth recommending. come for the funny name, stay for the sushi! :)
Wow this is a great place for lunch! Casual, clean, good service, good sushi. Except for ordering at the cashier, you get pretty much everything that a sit down sushi restaurant gives you. Come here when you need a quick sushi fix! Oh and they deliver for orders over $15.
there really needs to be more places like this. you walk in, look at the big menu full of pictures, order your food, sit down and they bring it to you. how much more simple can it get? there's no being seated, waiting around for your waitress to come by to take your drink order, then waiting around some more for her to take your dinner/lunch order and bring your food. if you're hungry and don't want to break the bank, this is an excellent option. the food is very good too! and they have vitamin water. i went there tonight and it totally hit the spot.
