Sushi Popo Japanese & Chinese Restaurant
2 reviews for Sushi Popo Japanese & Chinese Restaurant
Went to this place with Tim-Tom and Liz.
Since we are all vegetarian, it was easy to order the same item. The Sushi was good and two rolls are filling. But nooooo!, I wanted another dish and I got the veg tempura, good decision but could not finish. I do not like wasting food.
The people are friendly and everyone knows everyone. The whole town feels like it is one big family. You get my point right?
Driving through University Heights brought back memories, the lonely cop car waiting to trap out of state speeders who are in town to see their kids or family.

Expecting top-notch sushi in Iowa is kind of like expecting the best beluga caviar at a Memphis pit barbeque.
That being said, if you're in the Iowa City area and, like me, have a hard time not eating eating sushi at least once a week, Sushi Popo is the place to go, hands down.
IMPORTANT NOTE: They have recently (within the past couple months) re-vamped their sushi menu and added A LOT of things to it.
They even offer toro, which most sushi restaurants outside New York City have never even heard of. Last time I was there, I was pretty impressed with both the nigiri and the maki we ordered.
The best part about this place: the prices. They are SO reasonable. Better food and better prices than Takanami, for sure.
