i give this place 4 stars because it's in chattanooga. if it were in new york or someplace else i'd probably go down a notch on my rating. it's good though. it definitely blows the competition away.
i can't remember everything i had, but i know i liked almost all of it. i think one of the cuts of fish wasn't too fresh, but considering where this place is, i forgave them..
i'll be goin back for sure.
I recently ate here while visiting my mom in Chattanooga from the Bay Area. Between the two of us we got a bowl of edamame, a "King Roll", a Shrimp Tempura Roll, and a Rainbow Roll. The Shrimp Tempura Roll was perfect, no complaints. Both the King Roll and the Rainbow Roll were not rolled nearly tightly enough, and fell apart when picked up with chopsticks. The King Roll was tasty, but I'm not too partial to the egg used in sushi, which was in this roll. The Rainbow Roll was very good, except the salmon on the roll was smoked, not fresh. Salmon is my favorite sushi, so I was a little miffed.
The place was overall pretty good. If I were here more I'd definitely go again and I'm sure I'd find which things on the menu I liked and which I didn't and know what to order for myself better. Also, they appeared to have a good happy hour offer, which I'd enjoy trying in the future.
Sushi-Yummy!! That's what I have to say about it! The best sushi in Chattanooga. I missed really great sushi when I lived in NYC and being here for a while I was desperate to find a good place. This is the best. Their sushi is good and while the price is a tad high, its not too bad considering how land locked we are here in this part of the US. The staff is always friendly and they do have daily specials. I highly recommend this place!
This is some of the best sushi in all of the South, in my opinion.
The sushi bar is highly personal. Especially if you're a familiar face. Nabe, the owner/head sushi chef is exceptionally talented. He has won numerous awards. If you sit at the actual bar, it's quite an experience -- you can tell him what you do & what you don't like and he'll make you custom rolls.
It's 5 stars, hands-down.

Local Japanese businesses attract quality sushi talent. This place is a real surprise to find in this part of the south. Sushi at Sushi-Nabe rivals the quality found in any major metropolitan area. The atmosphere is acceptable; it's about the only thing that keeps this place from being on par with big-city sushi. I would highly recommend this location if you are in the area. Try the catfish sashimi, you'll love it. (Just kidding!) Tuna and Salmon were fresh and decent cuts. No tough parts. The prices are reasonable.
For Chattanooga this gets 5 stars. In Chicago, I would go 4.
u wanna know me? I'm the spoiled-rotten sushi lover from San Diego, ca. had the hardest time finding some place here in chatt-a-boogie to replace my beloved sushi-deli in Hillcrest /San Diego. I think I found it!! granted the prices are a bit higher than sushi-deli, but considering how far we are from any ocean currents - the prices are acceptable. Nabe is very dear & welcomes everyone with a smile! Gotta love the miso soup and the wonderful service. have eaten there several times ... lunch dinner whenever. drooling just thinking about it... no worries about paying for parking after 4:30 pm, and a stroll across the walnut street bridge after dinner will undo any over-eating!!! See You (there) Tomorrow!!!!
Sushi Nabe is where my wife, friends and I learned to love sushi, thanks in part to Nabe himself. This location right beside Coolidge Park is beautiful, both inside and out. Nabe tends to be behind the bar every night, preparing fantastic sushi, both rolls and nigiri.
If you're not interested in sushi for your meal, there is a good selection of cook items as well. Be forewarned, though - there is no fried rice here, only steamed.
Parking can be a little difficult, as the park goers tend to consume anything nearby. I believe a parking garage is being constructed nearby to ease the situation.
Be sure to thank Nabe on your way out the door, but you'll almost certainly hear his trademark "see you tomorrow," as you head out even if you don't.
