Review from Eric S.

For a sushi place in a land locked state, the quality was mediocre at best. Sushi Maru is run entirely by non-Asians; you won't find a Japanese sushi chef here. The establishment itself is relatively inviting and I found the wait staff to be friendly.
Ordered a few rolls and sushi - felt that the chefs were less than generous with the fish. Rolls tended to be smaller and less filling than I'm used to.
Bottom line: not good...but not bad either. http://Restaurant.com has a $25 for $10 certificate that sometimes can even be had for $3. In those cases, it's a decent deal. -

Eagle to base, this is a negative. Repeat, this is a negative.
Strolling around Utah, my brother and I searched desperately for sustenance. Among the plethora of grocery stores, burger joints, and greek restaurants, we could find nothing that would provide us with the nutrients that we needed so dearly...until....we saw Sushi Maru!
Rolls were interesting.
I will recommend the Salmon crunch roll. Simply a salmon roll with fried tempura bits and eel sauce on top. Simply...delicious.
The tuna roll was pretty standard fair.
The spicy tuna roll didn't taste like the regular spicy tuna I usually have. I couldn't put my finger on it.
The escolar sashimi, though delicious, was off. The middle part of the fish was still VERY cold, making me assume they just pulled it out of the freezer. I'm guessing they don't sell a lot of it, but that is alllll an assumption. Please note that. Nonetheless, sashimi being that frigid in the center allowed a mosquito to come suck the life out of my enjoyment for the fish.
I guess you could go here if you are really craving sushi, but I also saw a place on Main St that you may want to try.

Nope. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Ramen soup does not have a spinach salad on top or spaghetti noodles inside.
It also doesn't cost $12. -

Fairly typical sushi joint - apparently an "industry hangout" during Sundance. But in stark contrast to the place we went for breakfast (Squatters), the service was spotty, and at times almost rude. What was nice however, was that they offered to seat us in the tatami room 10 minutes before they were closing for lunch. The menu was anemic and on the expensive side, but I wasn't disappointed with my dish, which was teriyaki beef with rice and veggie tempura. The sushi I tried and the seaweed salad weren't bad either. Overall I think we had a good time, despite being a little shaken up by all the Sundance-related drama. But in the end, our waiter complained at having to split the tab multiple ways, and even expressed doubt that we had included enough cash.
Very bittersweet experience, which is why I give it 3 stars. -

This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a Japanese restaurant period! The food was not good at all and the waiter had repeatedly messed up our orders. There was an Asian man sitting next to me and he politely informed the waiter that they had delivered the wrong item. A few minutes later we had also received the "wrong" item and it looked very familiar. While I'm not certain that they tried to recycle their food, we know for a fact that the item we received was the same as the item that our neighbor had returned. We should have refused to pay the bill.

Wow. What a great place. Great sushi period. I love Maru because the chef can work something up that I always live (ask for Mikey) & it's much less expensive than typical sushi in Park City

This sushi restaurant is awesome. The fish is so fresh and the service is excellent. The owner is behind the counter and he is so responsive and once you have been in a couple of times, he remembers what you like. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in town.

Finally, a local place that I can afford! And, a bonus, it's amazing! The sushi and sashimi (spelling?) are very fresh and delicious. They have a happy hour from 5 until 6:30; all roll half price! Michael and his staff are friendly and informative. The salt water aquarium is beautiful and if you are lucky, the puffy fish will give you a show!

Portland, OR
A little Japanese restaurant far from the maddening crowd. Rather than dealing with the insanity of Main Street (where all the food is american/diner/bar&grill style anyways), park or ride the shuttle to the Albertsons and head back and to the left to the hidden strip mall area. Relatively empty even during Sundance, and the food was actually quite good and authentic. Except for the veggie curry, which tasted too much of ginger and contained cabbage (!!!), the lunch combo menu was both extraordinarily cheap and filling. In particular, the salad and the tempura were great. Part of the whole Sundance experience is mixing it up on Main, and that seems to include a requisite hour long wait for a table, which can be fun in the beginning. But if your enegry starts to wane, make it over to Sushi Maru.

Nuevo sushi restaurant. Cozy atmosphere.
The sushi here is average.Sashimi is fresh though.
The best item I like is the happy hour buffalo chicken wings (hot!) since it is Monday night football night. -

Not a bad place for a simple meal. I went after long flight and transfers and it's just outside of our hotel in the plaza. Convenience if you don't feel like to go to main st in park city. Service is very pleasant. I recommend it.

I tried the food there and the sushi was terrible. the wait staff was sitting on tables talking to other guests. never going there again. I would give them 0 stars. the chefs need to be trained in the art of making sushi and rice.
