Review from Julia A.
Manhattan, NY
Ok so being a sushi snob i'll preface this review a bit. I'm a fairly frequent diner at sushi lounge so I'll give you a bit of a mixed bag review. ambiance: it is what it is, it's well decorated, your crammed in there like sardines ( yet you can still have your independent conversations) ( depending on where you are seated) and having the dj there compliments and does not over power or make it impossible to have a conversation. I've been to all 3 sushi lounge locations and i'd have to say Morristown & Totowa are probably my favorite!
Food: The food is usually pretty spot on. Sure it's pricy but i've only ever had one roll i wouldn't order again ( ying yang) just wasn't up to quality like the others are! The Kobe Roll is AMAZING if you like steak tar tar, the tar tar appetizer is awesome ( i usually get tuna but they were out the other night so I had the salmon and was pleasantly surprised) The sushi is consistently good and the desserts are AWESOME!
Drink: The drinks here haven't always been my favorite. The lychee martini pales in comparison to other places i've had them, however they do make an excellent dirty martini. I had something off the valentines day menu the other night that was amazing! It was a blend of fig vodka with peach bellini and cranberry juice ( amazing!)
All in all I will absolutely keep coming back! It's a great ladies night spot ! -

I emailed the restaurant to share my experience and never heard back...this is the exact message:
I am hoping this email finds its way to the owner/manager of the Morristown location. My friend and I ate lunch at the Morristown location this afternoon, around 12:30. I wish I had a copy of the receipt to provide detailed information, but unfortunately I gave it back to the waiter. On the receipt was Japanese risotto, 2 orders of pick 2 sushi rolls and 2 soft drinks. The service was great, so I in no way want this email to imply that service was an issue. The problem was the food.
I had eaten at Sushi lounge months back when I didn't even live in the state. I had the Japanese risotto and thought it was hands down one of the best things I had ever eaten. I had raved about it for over a year and was so excited to return to Sushi Lounge to order it again. I was completely disappointed. The risotto was basically a mound of rice saturated in truffle oil. It had literally 3 shrimp in it...one thing I remember about the original one I tried was that it was packed with shrimp. Our sushi rolls were terribly wrapped and we ended up having most of the inner contents on our plate.
While I am a new resident to the area, my friend is a long time resident and a frequent visitor to Sushi Lounge. She has even had a 30 person party at your restaurant. We would have complained to the manager however he was on the phone for the ending duration of our visit and we could not wait any longer. After this visit we are hesitant to return.
*Maybe this place is better at night, but I will never return for lunch!* -

Lincoln Park, NJ
I think the price is the biggest negative about this place. I feel like you're paying for their decor and liquor license. The interior design is not as good as the one in their Totowa location. I've had better sushi at smaller and reasonably priced places in NY & NJ.
It's a regular sushi place, nothing creative in the menu that would make it the best sushi place and their drinks are expensive! I would pay that much for sushi and drinks in a swanky place in NYC so in a not-so-busy area like Morristown they should not be charging that much.
If you like to go to a swanky sushi bar then this is the place for you otherwise if it's sushi you love then save your money for better places like Sushi Hana in Montclair, NJ. -

Chatham, NJ
This is one of the coolest places to eat in Morristown. There is a wait, so I recommend reservations. The sushi and sahsimi are always fresh and prepared perfectly highly recommend the Tempura, never overly battered and just plain delicious. They also do a great job on the kitchen dinners. The Kobe beef is well worth the price. I've met the owners and managers while dining here and they are always very nice and extremely friendly. The service here is top notch. They have some of the most attractive(and friendly) waitresses I've ever seen in a restaurant. This is a great place to wow a client, or a date.

Morristown, NJ
The sushi here is very good but it is terribly expensive...you are paying extra for the bougey, Manhattan-wannabe atmosphere. Place is always packed full of dbags and obnoxious divas on their girls nights out. Not the restaurants fault though, so if you are ONLY into the food and money is no object, I'd say definitely give this place a try.

We went there for happy hour and they had good deals on appetizers. The waitress took a long time to take our drink order and they weren't even busy. We were sitting there for about 15 minutes without a waiter/waitress helping us. The service was not good and became a distraction.

Sushi Lounge seems like it is just trying way to hard to be hip with it's boutique style furniture and a DJ spinning the latest pop/dance music at a volume that is too loud to converse with anyone.
Atmosphere aside, the food is TERRIBLE. I've been here twice and both times I felt the sushi was not fresh, almost to to point of being inedible. Sushi Lounge, like a lot of restaurants in Morristown, grossly overcharges customers for mediocre food.
If you're looking for good sushi in the area, skip the lounge and head to J. Hinari where you will get a better deal and much fresher food. -

Paterson, NJ
Oh, the ambiance! I went there last night for dinner and got the California roll and the Hudson roll. I also got the Sapporo Japanese beer (delicious!) J. got the Chicken Hibachi and Miso soup.
Everything was yummy but J's Chicken hibachi was the yummiest, by far. It was a bit pricey but worth it, in my opinion. The music, although club-like, was really good. J mentioned that it felt like we were in a gay bar (lol) -

I've had better sushi at an all-you-can eat sushi restaurant.
I would have loved to end my review with the above statement alone but being that I love to share my experiences I will continue.
The only reason I gave SL two stars was 1 for Service (uber important) and 2nd star for atmosphere/decor I liked the crowd but it seemed really loud, we had to yell accross the 3x5 inch table they seated us at.
"DO YOU WANT EDAMAME?"
"SURE!!!"
The acoustics suck in this place or maybe the music was too loud, I have no clue. The prices were about what you would expect at this trendy spot in downtown MoTown but as my opening lines implied I have had better for a lot less.
SL is a great place to take no one. I cant see a guy bringing me here unless his intention was to not get to know each other or not speak at all just eat metiocre sushi, pay too much $ for it, and have a drink whispering in each others ear because that is the only way your going to hear a word.....
To sum up my review, it was nice but next time i'll go elsewhere. -

What? What was that?!? What did you say?!?!?!?! I haven't had a hearing test since about seventh grade, but after visiting Sushi Lounge, I think I need to go back for one.
The thumping of techno, which I typically love to run to, was somewhat overwhelming for dinner at 7pm when I attempted to have a date night with my wife.
I've definitely experienced better; the food was non-memorable. When the wife said, "sushi?", I was totally down. Then I got the menu. Call me traditional, but if you're a "sushi" restaurant, serve sushi. The selection was all over the place; everything sounding excellent, however the focus wasn't aiming towards what I thought I wanted walking into the place. I was thinking share a few rolls, some sashimi, and call it a night.
I must be blind as well as def, because I couldn't find the sashimi on the menu. Perhaps I missed it. It's a mute point as I ordered, not from the sushi menu, but from the entree list. This is partially my fault for not sticking to my guns, but some blame should go to the blindly focused menu. My meal was fine.
The temperature of the fish was good, a tad heavy on the soy/salt, and the overall dish was overwhelmed by a forest of spinach. The wife took the roll route and was as happy as a claim - perhaps she should write a review; we can do a he-said, she-said.
Overall the food was fine. Nothing spectacular, nothing horrible. Our server was attentive and prompt. The atmosphere was the most memorable part of my experience there. Each table around ours was screaming at each other over the unbearably loud music. The 'scene' at the bar looked more like a singles mixer than sushi restaurant. Not to mention the 'all over the place' attire, ranging from white sneaks and jeans to Ed Hardy T's -- not exactly NYC, but somewhere above 'Sizzler'. The price was high for what I thought was an o.k. experience.
I'll have to return for a follow-up. -

Morristown, NJ
I walked in with high hopes and I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be.
The food... The rolls are overpriced and somewhat on the smaller side, but they are good. Like most sushi places, they have really good lunch specials.
I missed Happy Hour, but it's definitely something I would recommend checking out. It ends at 6... I know... odd.
They have a TV at the bar and another TV at the sushi bar. If you go in to watch sports, make sure you sit at the actual bar... Apparently it's policy that they always have a movie playing at the sushi bar.
Overall I would say that the sushi is good, the people are nice, and it's worth a visit. -

Holy overpriced sushi, Batman!
Wow. I guess if you have a lot of expendable $$ you can spend it at the Suhsi Lounge. The portions are incredibly small but to the chef's credit, they are tasty. The GF and I split three rolls and an appetizer pretty quick. The "Maine lobster roll" was clawing desperately to try to taste like Maine lobster. It failed. The "Godzilla roll" was a spicy, enjoyable monster. And by the time my third diet coke was half full, the "optimistic roll" settled very pleasantly and gave a refreshing thumbs up in my belly.
In retrospect, the food was good but not worth the heavyset chowder we paid for it.
Also, there is a DJ in a tower in one corner of the restaurant. I couldn't even tell you what records he was spinning. That was kinda weird.
A recommend to the rich.
A pass to the rest. -

Best sushi in Morristown! Great staff!!! Fun drink menu & atmosphere. The bar is very small so it can get very crowded waiting for a table.
rolls to try:
Optimistic
Motown
jalapeno salmon
crunchy seabass
Lounge
peppered tuna appetizer
also must get the Maui Nachos for dessert! -

I liked the Sushi a LOT (as well as the rest of the menu). The room can be a litle crowded and the noise level is a distraction, thus difficult to have a private conversation!! The service was on point and was happy to help!!! The bill was a BIT expensive..but...overall a definiate Mo'Town MUST for Sushi...

Not too bad.... We come here when my company has a conference in town. This place is always nice and it has a good vibe. They have a bunch of rolls and I have probably had almost all of them by now. Nothing is bad but nothing blows me away.
Why not go here? Who knows. It works and you should try it. They have beer, sake and sushi. What else could you ask for? Super fresh fish? I only have had their rolls so I can not comment. -

Gladstone, NJ
A night club that should never be confused with a sushi restaurant.
This joint is over-rated by most. People who claim this great sushi haven't even had good sushi. It's serviceable, but I've had some "fishy" pieces here. You can't have inconsistency in your sushi, and this place embraces inconsistency. Moreover, don't trust multi-page menus at a place that claims to be a sushi bar. Sushi takes enough care. You don't need all this other rubbish. If you're preparing so many things, you're just not focusing your energy where you need.
Now, IF you want a "scene," this is great: shiny counters ... thumping electronica played from a DJ in a booth ... a decent movie playing on a screen with no sound ... high-heeled Pumas and Cougars heading to Morristown bars ... men in untucked fashion cut shirts or tight-fitting graphic tee shirts. These people are all there for the scene, NOT for the food.
If you want sushi, go half a block up to Nagano. If you want a chic club with pretty people and pretend sushi, this is your place. -
Review from Manda S.
Boulder, CO
I've been a few times with friends - can't afford it every single time I want sushi, but it definitely is worth it. I just started eating sushi over the last few years and I'm extremely picky as to where I get it from. Sushi Lounge's sushi is amazing - my favorite is the Optimist Roll.
The atmosphere is wonderful - dark wood, dimly lit, candles all around and great "world" music. It's loud, so be prepared to yell at your friends across the table. Their drinks are also great - try either the Dirty Sumo (my fav) or the Peachtini.
Go early on weekends as you'll be waiting quite awhile if you walk in past 7PM.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Outstanding sushi in a trendy but great atmosphere. Great date place. My only complaint was that they serve unsalted edamame with a side of some "pretty" egyptian sea salt which tastes like rocks.
But other than that, sushi lounge is delicious with a full bar to boot. -

not my favorite Japanese restaurant. The place appears to be upscale but the food is not as good and authentic as some other Japanese restaurants in the area. On top of this it can be very noisy and very expensive. If you feel real Japanese this is not what I would recommend.

West Orange, NJ
What you are paying for here is the atmosphere, the trendiness, the presentation, the "vibe" and the experience. All are five-star-worthy and undoubtedly worth the cost of dining here.
Very fresh food, very chic and sophisticated servers, and impeccable presentation make this a staple for lunch or dinner any day of the week. -

Bergen County, NJ
Did you ever get a hooker and expect her to know all the tricks of the trade? This place is like a phony blow job.
Swank doesn't mean dimming the lights to gleem off leather.
The rolls are overly priced for pretty results that lack taste. One of my rolls was old and I sent it back which is unacceptable. I didn't even get comped; but then again, red light hookers don't refund either.
I put the price range at 4$ because - a. this isn't manhattan no matter how hard they try and b. two rolls and a glass of ice water should not cost $35.00. -

I love Sushi Lounge!
Yes, it is a more "trendy" place to go and it is usually packed, but the food is great! Their drinks, while pricey, are usually well made, too!
It had low-lighting with candles on the tables, and sometimes there's a DJ spinning. If you're stuck with a wait for your table (which is the norm) you can at least have a seat in the "waiting" area that has tables and a waiter will come by to take your drink order as well. You can even just eat your meal here if you get a table and enough seats for your party!
Their edamame is delicious -- they give you a HUGE portion that comes with spiced sea salt. It always bothers me when you pay $5 and get about 15 pieces of edamame. Come on, it's just boiled soybeans - it doesn't cost that much! But Sushi Lounge gives you more than 3 or 4 people can really eat without spoiling their dinner! So don't fill up on the appetizers, because the sushi is really good.
I'm a vegetarian and I get excited when I see CREATIVE sushi rolls on the menu. Luckily, Sushi Lounge has plenty of good veggie options for me. They also have my FAVORITE tempura rolls, EVER!!!! Why, you might ask? Because you get to choose which tempura veggies are in your rolls. How cool is that? I love options.
Don't forget to save room for desert. You'll thank me. Get the "Maui Nachos" -- they are fried wontons or something like that with diced fruit on top and this amazing caramel sauce. They are SO delicious. This is also a big dessert -- plenty for 3 or 4 people easily.
Go, eat the things I listed in this review, and then tell me about it. I want to live vicariously through you because I don't live close to Sushi Lounge at all! -
Review from Steve B.
A solid Meh. I love sushi, but this place. . . not so much.
Give me Nara, Nagano and especially K.C. Sushi (in the Morristown Farmers Market, absolutely love it for take-out 6 days a week til 7:30pm) over Sushi Lounge. Better fish, better price, better quality can be found throughout Motown.
I don't need to have a bar in a restaurant and I don't care to look for cougars, so this place doesn't do it for me. It does have a decent feel, but I'll take SM23 for a drink lounge over it any day. -
Review from Hank C.
An upper-middle class lounge and bar combined with a sushi bar, it seems. Loud, noisy music by a DJ plays in the background as people sit and eat sushi or stand at the bar and socialize, filled with the local office park workers after any given day, it's basically Hoboken's Sushi Lounge, just add 10~15 years to the crowd's age.
Parking is somewhat of a pain, as is driving in the area - a lot of one-ways that don't always connect up nicely. The municipal lot is across the street free after 6, as are the meters, but they fill up fast. There's an open lot at the end of the street, though. They don't seat you unless your party is present in its entirety.
Sushi here varies... a mix of classic and American sushi types, with a decent amount of fish, but it's not always cold. At least when it says "spicy" it actually tastes moderately spicy, unlike many places. But at $2 extra over the price of a regular roll, well, seems a bit much.
Seating is not uncomfortable, but there's no back support on their chairs. Smaller tables, too. Everything's fairly dark in terms of lighting (although not as much as the Hoboken Sushi Lounge).
And yes, it is expensive, for Morristown, and sushi in general I've had better, cheaper, and larger. -

I came here for lunch with a friend and I really was not impressed with the selection. I decided to check out their sushi and got a lunch special that came with a roll and five pieces of assorted sushi. First of all, it took FOREVER for me to get my food and the waitress forgot about my salad. Secondly, the pieces were super small considering the price. Taste-wise, it was alright I guess. All I know is that I was left wanting more to eat that's for sure. Two stars because we were seated quickly and the decor was nice.
I still prefer Zen in Livingston for sushi. That place is always packed and with good reason. -

I have to agree with so many of the other reviews. Okay but way to pricey, this is Morristown NJ not NYC!
I didn't find that the atmosphere was trying too hard, it was still pretty chill in there and the crowd was chill. A girlfriend and I went on a Saturday night, the place was packed but we were able to grab a seat at the sushi bar.
I must conqur that they have awesome martinis and drinks. I especially enjoyed their House Punch, one ws enough to get tipsy, because at $11.00 a pop I couldn't afford much more.
Our total bill was $88.00 for 5 rolls (3 veggie) and two drinks, and edamame - I think that is a little outrageous. My King Crab sushi roll was tasty and fresh, but, a little overwhelmed with avocado ruining the good King Crab that I was paying $$$ for.
Our server was very attentive and friendly and the manager even came over to check up on us.
I would probably return, but not on a regular basis, unless I suddenly hit the jackpot. I agree, there is better more afordable sushi in the area.Listed in: Sushi!

I'm surprised to see the 3 rating...but I think this place gets a lot of hype in Morristown. But Lebron James is over-hyped, but he's still a 5 star player.
This is more of a Tracy McGrady in the sushi world though.
I thought it was excellent sushi and hot sake. Prices were a bit high, but not astronomical.
Despite my high rating, I'd say try out the other sushi joints in Motown if you're looking for the best deal. If you're looking to be a little 'flashy' go here.
In the Morristown Meat Market there's a cool dude making very nice sushi as well, and you can bring it home and eat it at your leisure. He's my preferred sushi hook-up to this place. -
Review from Brian E.
This is a nice place that tries to pass itself off as a swank lounge. The sushi is good, not incredible though. I'm only giving it a 3 star for a few reasons. The place is always too packed. It's uncomfortable to wait because you find yourself either standing right next to the entrance or trying to grab a drink while hovering over people that are eating. Bartenders are not very attentive either. They can also be expensive too.
They do have very good martinis however. They usually have a DJ playing music too. There are better options for sushi in Morristown but I'd absolutely concur with another reviewer that mentioned maybe the best kept secret in morristown. The farmer's market has a sushi chef that makes rolls to order. They are extremely cheap and very tasty! -

This is a review written on Sushi Lounge is for the reader that doesn't eat fish and isn't interested in any type of sushi...I love this place.
The Sushi Lounge feels like a little piece of NYC right here in Washington's Headquarters. With that said, you have to expect to sit close to the other trendy diners.
As for the food, I'm not a fan of sushi. I've tried it a few times and it just didn't tickle my taste buds the way I dreamed it would. At the Sushi Lounge, I had the Steak Teriyaki and it was awesome. Not your typical cut of beef but the flavor rocked. For an appetizer we had edamame with rock salt, another favorite of mine.
So for the non-fish mongrels out there...don't shy away from this place because it has Sushi in the name, you might miss out on a potential new favorite. -
Review from Sarah G.
My parents live in the area, but I haven't been to Sushi Lounge in a while, but this past experience was AMAZING! Possibly the best sushi I have ever had...
Pros:
Told 30 minute wait for a table, waited about 10
Cool atmosphere
Innovative rolls - my mom and I split 4 rolls: chilean sea bass (i die!), spicy tuna, ying yang, and the banana tuna (i die again!)
Good wine by the glass
They even had reading glasses at the hostess station for my mom when she realized she forgot to bring hers!
Cons:
little loud if you sit near the lounge
too dark if you sit near the back
Can't wait to come back when my sister gets back in town -

Aside from the fact that I used to work there ;] this place is awesome.
It's trendy and the lights are dim, you feel cool as soon as you walk in.
A DJ spins beats every night for you to bop your head to while you chew.
The Martini menu is chock full of tasty treats for your taste buds to experiment, and you can never go wrong with any of their desserts (no seriously, you can't!)
Personally, if I'm in the mood for an entree-- I always get the Beef Teriyaki and order any of the special rolls. I highly recommend: Red Coat, Red Hot, Optimistic, and any of their special rolls! -

Good sushi, high prices. As simple as that. It seems to be a bit trendy for the area, as it is trying too hard possibly. Regardless, I have always had fresh sushi there and no complaints about the food.
If you are trying to be trendy, give it shot. Otherwise, there are better places around. -

Summit, NJ
Very nice setting, with very average sushi. Better Japanese can be had locally for less.
We ate here early-ish (5:30) on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was nearly empty. Decent jazz combo was playing a bit too loudly for an empty room. Wait staff was nice and service was swift.
The spicy tuna was vaguely spicy, and the rest of the sushi roll choices we made were basically flavorless.
Not terrible by any means, but not terribly special, either. -
Review from Nicole P.
Morristown, NJ
I went here last Saturday at around 7:30 PM. The wait was about 15-20 minutes at that time. By the time I left the place was pretty packed, and I hear the wait can get to be up to 45 minutes to an hour (or more) depending on when you go.
A nice feature of this place is that they have a small seating area in the waiting area with modern couches/chairs and tables to sit at while you wait for your table. If you can get a seat at one of these someone will be over to you to see if you would like to order a drink while you wait. You can also wait over at the bar as well if this area is too full.
Sushi Lounge has a different feel then most of the other restaurant/bars in the area; most of which have your typical american/pub style food and sports bar feel. The decor, music and lighting at the Sushi Lounge gives it a trendy vibe.
On to the food. Being that it is called the Sushi Lounge we of course went for the sushi. We ordered an Alaskan roll, Spicy Tuna roll, Eel Roll and the Chileann Sea Bass roll. All of the fish was fresh and very good. My roommate who does not like raw fish raves about the Chileann Sea Bass roll. I personally preferred the rolls with raw fish, but it is good to know that you can even take a person here who doesn't like raw fish and there will be something for them.
Prices are slightly more expensive than you could probably find at other sushi places, but for the atmosphere and food quality it is well worth the extra $1 per roll you may pay. -

I'm going to have to agree with the consensus here that Sushi Lounge is good. Good sushi, good bar, but a really odd scene and WAY too expensive. If you read my other reviews, you'll see I don't care about price. So to have me even comment on it means that the place is out there. This is more expensive than Tao (yes, the overexposed/used to be trendy place in midtown), and not as good.
The sushi is fresh, but I expect that from the area. The rolls are probably what keeps me from rating this a 2. The rolls are innovative and delicious.
As for the scene...helloooo cougars! If I was a single 24 year old dude, I'd be all over this place. -
Review from Phallic M.
Austin, TX
Save yourself the hastle. If you care about being cool with all the other dopes that can't hold chopsticks properly, then this place is for you! Take a look at the review from a former worker below...You will be paying for the DJ, not the service. Extremely overpriced, and smallish pieces. I can't believe there are people over the age of 16 that want to "feel cool" when they walk into a sushi restaurant. I want to feel welcome and seated. I dunno, maybe I'm looking at it from an eating perspective, not a happy hour one.
The food isn't that great. It's "trendy" I suppose. But to me that's not a good thing. Do yourself a favor, walk out the door, make a right, cross the street, and go up the stairs to Nagano.
If you don't want the traditional style of Nagano, and want a more modern atmosphere without getting gouged on a simple tuna roll, head onto Speedwell Ave. and eat at Aji's Sushi. Average prices with great sushi/sashimi. Modern decor with friendly service.
So, Sushi Lounge Pros: It's "trendy" as in it's "just like the one in Manhattan!) Wonderful. Atmosphere is nice.
Cons: outrageous prices, an incessantly annoying DJ, blonde ponytails that screw up your order. -

Great place for lunch or dinner. I haven't been there for drinks yet, but they have daily happy hours as well as half-priced martinis all night on Wednesdays and other cool perks.
