Los Angeles, CA
OMG I love this place. Everyone I work with is obsessed with it. At one point we were going once a week.
Definitely go during happy hour (M-F 4-7pm). Most of the rolls are half off. For the best rolls in the whole wide world its a great deal.
I always get the Glendy Roll ($7 Happy Hour) and the Philly Roll ($4 Happy Hour). My stomach is so happy afterwards.
Otherwise, get the Eel Bowl. It's sooooo gooood. Comes with lots of avocado and is very soft and succulent.
It can be slow because it gets very busy and its a small place. But whatever, the food is amazing. -
Review from Rox G.

Is it top notch authentic sushi? No.
Is it addictive-ly delicious? Yeah man.
I go here with my sister, who's one of those people that claim to love sushi. When it comes down to it, she loves tempura batter, siracha, spicy mayo, and spicy tuna. Even non-spicy tuna is tuna-much for her.
PROS:
Great happy hour: we had 2 cut rolls, 2 hand rolls, edemame, and 2 sodas for a little over $30;
Excellent customer service: I can see why everyone who comes in is a regular. They give personal attention to each customer. They joke around, pay attention to what you like, make suggestions, etc.
Reasonably priced: Even if it's not happy hour, hand rolls are around $4 and specialty rolls range from $9-12. Not bad at all I'd say.
CONS:
Parking is very annoying in that little shopping center.
Could get crowded at certain times.
Hand rolls were tiny and the scallops were not that good at all (in their defense, I'm comparing their scallops to Chiba the EggMcMuffin of scallops ... tell me you've seen those commercials)
ROLLS I'D RECOMMEND:
911
Glendy Roll
STAY AWAY FROM:
The tiny hand rolls with not so good fish
I'll go back, sure. -

The portions of fish for the sashimi are quite large and the fish is pretty fresh. They have some interesting specialty rolls, that may not be earth shatteringly new, but are definitely more non-traditional. Some of them really aren't my thing, but I've tried many of the ones that are and they've all been pretty good.
Service is consistently good and they have 15% off all specialty rolls on the weekend so that's also a plus. -

My "Sushi Joint" of choice hands down local to Glendale and Burbank, CA. The fish is fresh, service/environment is great and the prices are hard to beat for good quality sushi.
They also have a great happy hour. -

Los Angeles, CA
Great sushi. Decent prices (if you got to the happy hour, which I always do). Awesome people.
I have tried almost all of the the specialty rolls on their happy hour menu. My favorites are the Nine-one-one, Glendy, and the Sunrise Tunee. But, everything is great. I love that they don't overfill their rolls with a bunch of crab meat, like other places do.
Some of the rolls (e.g., Glendy) can be a little sweet because of the sauce they put on the plate. But, you can always ask them to go easy on it and they are happy to comply.
I also love the people here. You get fast service, but don't feel rushed. The servers are pleasant and accommodating. And, the people who roll the sushi are super entertaining and nice. I used to prefer sitting at a table because I thought it'd be strange to sit at the bar. But, the past few times the wait for the bar was pretty short - so I went with that. Now, I prefer it. -
Review from Jackie D.
Wow I surely have no clue what my fellow yelpers were talking about in terms of service, sushi quality or food. I should have followed my gut instincts about Sushi in Glendale. When your specialty is rolls and all your rolls are on Happy Hour every single day, you have to wonder. Honestly, they didnt even have all the types of fish offered at a normal sushi restaurant. I would say 60% of all their rolls have tempura fish in them. Thats not really sushi. This place is the place to go if you want fried everything, chili oil on every roll ( Yes Chili oil- masks fresh fish well), and chili pepper as well. The albacore wasnt terrible and the most exotic fish they have is yellowtail.
The service was just okay and the waitress hardly spoke any english at all and didnt know the name of the rolls we were ordering. All in all, this is where teenagers who dont know anything about sushi come to eat cheap rolls. Its just NOT going to be my go to anything sushi place. Cant believe the 4 star ratings here. -

Excellent! I had the Bento Combination for lunch and everything was made fresh and was more than I could eat.

Total Glendale hipster joint. It gets filled with Disney and Dreamworks employees especially around lunch. The name fits it well. Tight up in there!
The sushi is fresh and tasty! Really great selections too. Some unique rolls. The 911 roll is the maird!
Yellow Tail belly and Uni were some the freshest selections in a long time. -

Been here a couple times. Close to my work. Fish is always fresh and everything tastes great. Service is a bit slow, but the food makes up for it.

Holy moly, oh.mah.gawd, sweet jeezus... is it possible to marry the Nine One One roll? I wouldn't mind. Spicy tuna, avocado with spicy sauce?!
Marry me.
Walking into this place, the staff greets you quiet loudly. After being seated, as a food stalker, I took a look around and everything looked tasty. As I began to fantasize about all the speciality rolls I wish I could have order, my sushi arrived.
Next time I'm definitely wearing loose jeans because it was just that good. -

Really yummy sushi! Crunch roll was a little sweeter than from what we've had so far!...The place is really chill and seems to be a lot of fun. The staff is really friendly too! There's a little parking lot in a small shopping center.

I decided to give Sushi Joint another chance about a year ago, and I'm glad I did. Great service. Fresh fish. Things have really turned around there. I went to another sushi place one day nearby when I was running errands and realized how much MORE fish and better quality I got at Sushi Joint. It's my go-to place. I've been bringing my colleagues there for a while. Hai!
I should add that the problematic waitress is gone. The staff they have now are all terrific.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Options are limited. Menu comes only in plain text. Don't expect any pictures. The best bet is to log into Yelp before going there.
My friend and I got three specialty rolls: Super Rainbow roll, Midnight Fernando roll, Sexy Gal, and two hand rolls: Spicy salmon and Spicy Yellowtail.
All of them was good, but I was not aware that the Super Rainbow roll was SPICY and the prices was average.
The downside of everything was when the waitress with the big curls gave my friend a bad vibe when we order the tempura ice cream to share. The lady looked at her up and down and ask her if she was sure she doesn't want two instead. I tried to calm my friend down, but definitely it ruined our lunch already. I'm sure the waitress is trying to make us get more food, but that's not the best approach missy.
In addition, there's no discounts, even for the local corporate company around the area. Such a pity, I'm sure there would be more return customers if they can provide 10% discount or at least some perks, even for a free drink. Even Momotaro gives discount, and they have more selections and cheaper pricing than you.
Anyways, if you're wondering, the place is Thai owned. The two stars isn't due that that, but was the experience we got from waitress.
If you reading this! I'm not mad that I have to pay full price, cause I never expect it. The rating was due to you Ms. Big Curls waitress! You're the one who made everything bad. My friend walked out with low self-esteem.
My business will be back to Momotaro and I'm only going to your restaurant if I have a meeting to go back to or a lunch meeting. -

We love Sushi Joint!!!!we are from the north bay and we were in LA for a business trip. Found Sushi Joint on yelp, the menu looked good. The best part of this place is the atmosphere, the staff greets you upon arriving, the music playing there is top forty not the typical boring music you find in other sushi places. Now the rolls, nine one one roll is good, the burbank fantasy is delicious and the albacore belly is so tender it melts in your mouth. It was so good and reasonable that we went there the next day for lunch. The staff too are very nice and cheerful.
Definitely we will be back whenever we are in LA. -

Looking for a place to have my family bday dinner, I turned to yelp and found out about this place. After reading reviews, I wasn't sure if I want to take the risk of going somewhere new and with a big party since I read a few reviews about limited seating. So, I opted out, but came here with my bf instead for a casual dinner.
Why 3-stars? Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't gross or anything, but it really lacked choices and the fish, although not fishy, lacked flavor. Looking through the menu, most of their specialty rolls either contained imitation crab, spicy tuna and/or shrimp tempura. I couldn't find anything with salmon besides the rainbow roll (but that doesn't count) and the salmon hand roll, which I ordered the cut version for an extra $0.50.
Anyway, my bf ordered the sashimi dinner: 3 pieces each of salmon, tuna, albacore, and red snapper. Like I mentioned before, each lacked flavor. From the taste, I think it was previously frozen, which I know is common these days; however, for a restaurant, they should save the tasteless ones for rolls. So, of course, my salmon cut roll didn't have much salmon flavor, but at least there's avocado and cucumber to help it. I also ordered a specialty roll (15% off on weekends) called spicy chicka. This was probably the highlight of the meal because it didn't contain any raw fish, thus, flavor.
Notable details:
1) mushroom instead of kelp in the miso soup. Different flavor in a good way; a bit too salt for us.
2) sushi rice wasn't season well
Service was.. so-so. Good when you don't call them over 'cause they're really nice. This place is small, so you wouldn't think it's hard to get their attention, but it was. We tried to flag someone a few times and when we got the waitress's attention, she forgot to bring us what we asked for. -

I think the waitress has a crush on me, cause out of a group of 7 I was the only one to get food on time! The rest had to wait. If I had to wait I would of given 3 stars instead! Get the albecore sushi and abby delight roll! Very good!

Still delicious, still our favorite local sushi spot. Just a quick update, it's gotten WAY busy the past few months. It used to be like our secret spot, never busy, always tons of tables open. Now there's always a wait to get a table. I can't knock them because it's great for them to be busy so they stay open. But it bums me out to have to wait now. Lol. :)

Fish is good, not great, but it's a decent sushi joint in Glendale/Burbank. Their menu is influenced by those who prefer a little fusion in their sushi but the traditional options are not a bad choice. Good value for the money.

Solid 4 Stars
This place is smaller than usual sushi places I go to but that doesn't bother me at all, just an observation.
Like my buddy Sam said in his previous review this place packs on the fish if you get the rolls. Which I thoroughly enjoyed. the prices are fairly decent and will not hurt your wallet unless you go overboard in your order but hey some people eat like a mouse while others come to feast like a boss!
I actually had recommended this place to a friend of mine awhile ago even though I hadn't come here yet myself and they raved about it back to me after they were done with their meal. What can I say I know how to choose them! (slightly arrogant tone)
Anyways, I finally tried this place and loved the experience. The staff was polite and on the ball with everything. I mean they were filling my cup without hesitation and were very prompt if we had any questions. I actually do not have one negative thing to say about this place. All the rolls I had were tasty from the spicy tuna, spicy albacore, baby roll platter and another hand roll which I forgot the name of. It was all good.
Why only 4stars and not 5?
Well I intend to be back really soon and if they blow me away once again than they will get an even more glowing review along with 5 stars. -

Glendale, CA
Amazing!!! The fish here is always so incredibly fresh and everything is made with love - just ask the gal in the hat with wings! Haha!! Not only is the food here absolutely the best, but the staff are so cool and so attentive. My green tea cup runneth over! And by that I mean they keep it flowing. They're always glad to see you in this place.
I like to be at the bar. Watching them work is like watching artists create, and yet they still manage to make you laugh in the process. My faves are nine one one roll, new.guy roll, Hawaiian roll, and seared albacore sashimi. Also, when you order sashimi here, they serve it with a salad. Nice!
A little forewarning is that nights & weekends this place gets packed. It may take a minute to get your order, so if you can, pick everything at once ( if at a table). -
Review from Chris S.
Was craving sushi rolls and trying to figure out a new place to take my high maintenance mom for dinner in the Glendale area without driving out too far. Saw that this place rated high among many yelpers, so decided to give it a shot. Had my doubts and thought it'd be another mom 'n pop hole in the wall and with the name of the restaurant, probably very white.
We step into the restaurant and all my doubts disappear. Decoration is modern. Kind of reminds me of a Japanese/Korean cafe. Staff was very friendly and quick. The food..pretty damn good and fresh! My only complaints are 1) the chef put a little too much rice on the special rolls 2) shrimp tempura tasted a little airy and 3) not much variety in their sushi selection.
Although they did lack variety in their sushi selection, I still have to commend them for the quality of their fish. My spicy yellowtail handroll was mostly made up of fish and while the chefs usually try to put a lot of seasoning on it to mask the fishiness, the chef didn't. It had a good balance of spice and lots of fish! In case you were curious, their soft shell crab is also a must try if you like soft shell crab.
I'd give this place 5 stars, but it might just be that they had a good first impression on me, so I'll hold off on this extra star until I come back. I also still need to try their sushi.. All in all, I will definitely be coming back to this place for their great prices, good quality fish, and friendly/quick staff! -

Los Angeles, CA
This sushi place is sitting on some back road with absolutely other decent businesses around. It's pretty hidden.
BUT it's delicious!
Seriously, the place is small (maybe 10 tables at the most), and it looks like it used to be a tiny french bistro and somebody bought it out, kept the decor and flipped it into a sushi joint, then decided that for lack of a better name, it should be called that. But, damn, is it tasty.
Most of the staff is pretty nice. Except for this one young girl but I can't tell if she's rude or just completely unaware.
Rolls to check out are Cheesee Ebi, Spicy tuna, Pacific, Nine One One, and Spicy Chicka. But really, most of their rolls are amazing.
Their alcohol is pretty cheap too. Definitely worth getting some sake and Kirin beer with your sushi.
Sushi Joint is a hidden gem, and most idiots would probably go to some posh sushi restaurant where they will pay double the price for half the quality just because it looks upscale. -

Love the decor. Kinda a small place, so there's a small wait, but worth it. I'm not a fan of seafood, so I tend to get the teriyaki.I prefer the chicken over the beef. My friend and his wife love the sushi here.
The sushi chefs, and the wait staff are soo much fun. Always smiling, and very courteous to your needs. -

I usually go to Cho Cho San (aka Revolving Sushi) in Tarzana whenever I crave sushi. However, Friday at 5 pm, I would not dare to get on the 101 from Glendale since it would probably be a parking lot. Therefore, I decided to yelp and found this place. The place was packed which usually is a good sign. We ordered the super rainbow, 911, and spicy tuna on crispy rice. My wife also ordered the appetizer tempura, egg rolls, and miso soup. The rolls were fresh and flavorful and the other stuff were just as adequate. As far as the prices, they are very reasonable, we went it during their happy hour without knowing and our bill came out to $35. Now let me make myself perfectly clear, this place still does not compare to my original spot, but it can serve as a good backup.

Burbank, CA
After months on my hit list, I finally had the pleasure of eating here last week, and I was amazed at how good this place is!!
It is located in an strip mall away from downtown Glendale, and really closer to the Burbank border. In looking at the businesses nearby, you would never know what kind of jem the Sushi Joint is! The service was very warm. You are greated with a loud welcome as soon as you open the door. The place is not very roomy, but they do well with their decoration.
We had four specialty rolls which were all excellent: The Four Season was unique and very tasty with spicey tuna, scallops, shrimp, crab and avocado on the inside, with crunch on the outside and a great sauce; the Nine One One roll was indeed a spicey delight with spicey tuna and a special spicey sauce; their most popular roll, the Sunrise Tuny was well worth the praise having spicey shrimp, crab and avocado on the inside, with tuna and a special sauce on the outside; finally last but not least the Spicey Chicka was made to perfection with shrimp tempura, crab salad, avocado, rolled in a spicey sauce with smelt eggs on top.
In addition, my 3 year old thought the Miso soup, California Roll and edamame were also "delicious"! I tried it and had to agree the miso was a unique flavor that I had not tried before, and the CR and edamame were what you would want!
This place is now my new favorite in the Glendale/Burbank area! -
Review from Johnnie H.
Glendale, CA
Horrible and impolite service. Food was flavorless and nothing special. Same list of deep-fried rolls with tons of mayo and sauces that you can have at any other random "sushi joint," no pun intended. But food taste is a personal preference, you might like their good.
But you won't like their service. They ruined my Saturday night dinner with my mom. Our waitress was Inattentive and rush rush, which I didn't appreciate at all. She forgot our miso soup when we specifically asked to get it before since it was so cold outside.
And she committed the all-time restaurant low blow to a customer - she brought the main dish out for one person sooner than the other person, who is supposed to be doing what??? Just sit there and watch the other person eat??
I thought it would take a few minutes to bring my dish out, so I waited. 10 minutes passed. Two other tables who were seated after us were enjoying there food already, mind you. I asked about my food twice and I was told it was being made with such attitude as if my asking was wasting their time.
Anyways, this whole time this is happening I also felt bad for my mom because she didn't want to eat until I got my food but I insisted she start because they were taking forever. so while I'm sitting there looking at all the sushi chefs taking shots of sake at the bar, I'm thinking why can't you be using this time to make my food instead???
Not my waitress but another one notices my starving and pissed off expression and asks my waitress, "Is his food ready?" My waitress went to ask the chef who was taking shots and I noticed from some clever lip reading and facial expressions and orderform finger pointing that she had forgotten my order this whole time!!!!
Guess what? I watched him make my platter in 10 seconds. It was just placing sashimi on a plate. So that whole 20 minutes they were lying when they said my food was being made.
To add insult to injury, after 1 minute of bringing my plate, they brought the same plate to the table next to us. That table was there for tops 5 minutes.
Disgusting experience. Plenty of better places with more flavorful fish, nice staff, and good service. I think this place is popular because most people can't handle real sushi they just go for shrimp tempuras and deep fried Americanized rolls, which is what this shame of a culinary institute serves up; with a complimentary huge dish of horrible service. -

Went here with the homie for the LUNCH Special ...
I got the 3 Hand rolls with a side of Miso for under 10 Bux!!!
The Rolls were on point!! I got a Tempura Hand Roll, and 2 Spicy Tuna's ... Not as spicy as I like them, But they were bomb ...
My homie got some bomb fried roll with cream cheese and unagi sauce (Sweet teriyaki style sauce) ...
It was cracking here durring lunch hour ... I love how they say " ARISHAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ARISHAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIII" when you walk in ... I usually bow (Pretty racist huh) But im filipino, so I guess I can get away with that ... its like Dark skinned people calling each other ni ..... nevermind ...
But come down!!! This spot is pretty cool! if its packed, prepare for a wait!!! -

Not your average sushi joint. ;)
Rock was blaring on the speakers, all the staff were young (& friendly), decor is a mash up of various items in an exposed interior building. Very cool - not at all the standard place. Glad I randomly stopped in.
Happy hours that discount rolls, sake, & beer are great!
Seaweed salad - good portion for $3.95. Usually not much is given but this one was a healthy portion & full of sesame seeds. Good crunch to it so it hadn't been sitting for awhile waiting to be consumed.
1 Sunrise Handroll - spicy tuna that definitely left spice in my mouth! I'm not big on "spicy" so I tend to stay away, but this was really good. A large hand roll w/ spicy tuna piled on top. Dip it in some soy sauce & you've got an easy to eat sandwich!
Can't remember the name of my sushi but it was cut in 8 pieces, happy hour price of $7, & had all types of fish & avocado in it topped w/ the chef's "special sauce". Usually a mayo-based sauce. It was colorful, flavorful, and didn't fall apart when picked up w/ chopsticks. Every bite was smooth & consistent. Not spicy but the sauce had its own kick. This can be shared but I decided to enjoy every bit!
I'll be back there next time I'm in LA for work. -

FOOD, 4: This is a sushi spot you go to if you're into the roll craze, like I am. Self-proclaimed "sushi snobs," please go away and leave this place alone. Nobody cares about your pretentious nonsense and invented "standards."
ANYWAYS..for the rolls fans: here are the rolls you shouldn't miss, in order of my favorites!:
-Four Seasons roll (do not miss it!)
-Cheesee-Ebi
-BSCR roll
-Burbank Fantasy
-Glendy roll
-Spicy Chicka
-Crunch roll
The only reason I don't give the place a 5 is because some of the rolls are the kind with way too much of that sweet sauce, which I hate. They have a large menu, but I mostly have to stick to the above list because I don't like so much sauce on my sushi. Mostly, however, the sushi here is fresh and delicious.
SERVICE, 4.5: Service here is always, always consistently great. I've been here millions of times and never had a problem. The servers are ALWAYS smiling, helpful, happy, and prompt. This is one of my favorite sushi joints. -

I wish more people in my friend's group liked sushi because I would come here a lot more.
The sushi here is unique, fresh, and delicious. I would recommend the Crunchy Roll and the Cheesee Ebi Roll. Although you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu.
The prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get.
And if sushi really isn't your thing they also have teriyaki chicken and dishes without raw fish.
The wait staff is also extremely friendly.
By far the best sushi I've had in LA. -

This review is only for happy hour!
My bf, cousins, friends and I came here several times during happy hour (4-7 pm) because it's super cheap! WE LOvE IT! :)
Their special rolls like glendy and sunrise roll are like $7 during happy hour. Such an awesome deal! They have like some kind of special sauce that makes the sushi sooo yummmayy!
The service is pretty good and the food comes out pretty quick.
mmm...We shall be coming back there soon! :) -

On some level, Sushi Joint is a victim of its own success.
Everyone was nice, but the place at lunch (on a Friday) was absolutely packed. That made for slow service (even though it came with a smile, and was never anything less than pleasant).
I guess, I give it a 2.5 because all in all the sushi itself was very average, and borderlined "not exactly fresh." When I received the salmon sushi, at first glance and grab, I had to poke it to make sure it wasn't a little frozen in the center. There was just a "look" about it. A few of the rolls we had were sort of mealy and smeared in their flavors. You know how when you mix too many colors when finger painting as a kid; it all sort of just looks brown? That's the flavor vibe of much of what I ate.
It's much more of a party atmosphere, I think, and if that's your thing, you can't go wrong with this place. Truly. And it seems there are regulars there, so they probably treat them well. Which is great.
But if you want life altering and fresh tasting sushi, I'm certain there are other fish in the sea. -

This place is awesome. First off, the employees there are very friendly. The ambience is good and very comfortable.
The best part is that the servings are very tasty and big. It is very fair for whta the prices are.
The special rolls are awesome as well. I would say that this place is the best one ive been too. I live in walnut and i drive all the way to glendale to eat at this place. It's that good. -

Good sized portions for the price. Wait staff is very friendly and I don't think they call it sushi "joint" for nothing. Enjoyed:

How could this place be in business for a few years now without me knowing?! I came here with a friend and was glad I came along for the impromptu lunch because their lunch specials were nicely priced and tasted great. The 'Hand Roll Set' was the perfect lunch size: what you get is three nicely sized hand rolls with your choice of types.
Service is great. It almost felt like 'Cheers'' long lost Asian brother. -

Okay so we tried this place based on other reviews. Friendly, quick service. Its small cozy place nothing special except for good sushi. I've had sushi at many places including Santa Monica's airport The Hump so we pretty much know good sushi from bad. This is a good B rating, based on quality and chef craftsmanship. Yeah not a lot of Asians there, i got that, however this is Glendale not Monterey Park, Get it? Well Good'ol Hump is now closed do to its delicious Whale Meat (LOL), but we've found this place and it suites us just fine.
ps. music is just loud enough so that you can't make out what other people are saying, nor can they tune in to what your saying.
