Review from Jessica C.
Atlanta, GA
This spot is my favorite for sushi and udon in Atlanta. I think, similar to pizza places, people are looking for different things in a sushi place - this is exactly what I'm looking for. Sushi-Huku is wonderfully laid back and the ambience is warm and inviting. The waitstaff are very friendly and wear kimono, which makes me really happy! I also enjoy the musical selections, not quite sure how to describe them, but somewhere between traditional and modern.
We have always sat at the bar, and the sushi chefs are personable and chat with us from time to time. The house salad is great, the dressing tastes like there's some citrus juice mixed in with the usual ginger dressing.
The battera sushi is delicious! I had enjoyed small bits of mackerel as sashimi in the past, but in this pressed sushi format it really shines for me. There's something addictive about it, and we order it each time we come here.
I've had udon here twice, and it was glorious both times. The tsukimi udon is served in a lovely earthenware bowl - I like to break open the poached egg halfway through to get a different broth for the last half of the meal! The nabeyaki udon comes in what looks like a little cast iron soup pot, with lots of different delights cooked in the broth: mushrooms, carrots, tempura shrimp, a poached egg, chicken, etc. The broth by itself is delicious, and the noodles are plump and springy.
I always leave here happy! -

Crazy Horse Roll.
WTF is it?
Dunno. Gotta ask. What, you want descriptions on a sushi menu?
It's yellowtail, and some other stuff, which I find hard to believe is that much different than the roll with the much more obvious name - "yellowtail roll."
Then there's the soft shell crab roll. Does it ever begin to feel less awkward to eat something with legs hanging off of it? I'm not sure. When you look down and see three legs hanging out of your mouth as you're trying to chew this thing, it's a little creepy. You'll feel like a troll under a bridge. ...or something.
Upon entry you'll have no choice but to notice THE GREAT WALL OF AWARDS (How's that Chinese reference in the middle of a sushi review treating you?) from ZAGAT and other such review sites. Apparently this is the place to be but I left not as impressed as I thought I would have been. Granted, with only those two rolls I didn't try an extensive cross section of the menu but I got the impression that where they really shine is in the specialty dishes. Case in point, on the night I was there one of the chefs had made a squid ink pasta because of the quality of squid he'd just received in from Japan earlier that day which still had some ink in it. Of course by this point I had already ordered some rolls. Apparently the ink pasta was good. I didn't try it but the table behind me was raving. He also sent over a fish head to the table and the guy next to him made some other interesting looking creations.
Happy as people seemed to be around me, my first time in included two sushi rolls, a cup of miso soup and an iced tea. The total came out to a little over $25 for one person after tip and all in all, I could have eaten something small afterward to really have felt sated.Listed in: Mildlanta

OMFG!!! My husband and I left comparing the quality to that of Nobu! It was honestly that good. We went sushi all the way so I can not comment on their hot dishes.
The fish was so fresh it was almost as if they pulled it out of a tank in the back and cut it up right then and there. I also like that they gave you edamame for free to start! Yippee I love edamame but can't bring myself to spend $4 for a small bowl of it.
The only thing that I was unsure of was that she asked as if we had a reservation and told us next time we should make one (it wasn't that busy when we went there).
Also note the prices are a bit up there but it is totally worth every penny. Also there are no descriptions for the rolls so you have to be sure to ask.
And finally if you want to know what spicy tuna roll is supposed to taste like (a real spicy tuna does not have brown sauce on top of it) then go here. This is our new go to sushi spot. We can now finally skip a trip to the sushi place back home becuase we can finally get good sushi at our new home. -

So I had been waiting to come here. Based on the reviews, i felt that This could be my new sushi spot! So last saturday night i finally decided to head up there!
But oh boy was I disappointed!
I'm sorry besides the hand towels nothing was pleasing...
I had the california fusion roll and that's the only thing I recommend
Baked salmon - fail! I have had so many better baked sushi
Pink something- it was ok not bad
Miso soup with shrimp- really?!? How can someone screw up on something simple like miso ? They took so long to bring the soup out that we ended up taking it to go. And I ended up throwing it down my kitchen sink drain!
I would not come here again not recommend this place! I have had way better sushi... And have been to a lot of sushi places to say that this place was just a one star! -

I have become quite stingy in my giving out of 5 star reviews. If this had been me in the beginning of my yelping career, I would have easily given this place 5 stars - but now that I'm older and have tried more things - this rating can be considered a 4.49 (don't you just hate it when you get those?).
I came with a friend who can be considered a regular. I had the bento box with the Chicken Karage and Don Katsu and we shared a Kondo Box.
I haven't been back in Atlanta for a while, so I am not sure about the quality of sushi available nowadays, but regardless I must say that this place is top notch. Granted the only sushi I had was the Kondo Box, it was fresh, delicious, and aesthetically pleasing.
The bento box was good, though not as great as the quality of the sushi. Silly me for ordering a bento box when I specifically came here because of the sushi, but looking back I don't regret it. The karage was my favorite, and I can't complain about the don katsu - as there aren't that many ways to mess that dish up.
Definitely worth checking out this place. I would highly recommend the Kondo Box. -

I wish we'd gone here sooner.
Amazing service. Food looked like art. Typical sushi roll prices.
Got shrimp tempura (7.50), dragon roll (14 bucks or so) and crunch shrimp roll (12?). Overall quality was amazing. I could tell a real difference on that the minute I put it in my mouth. It's fresher here. Everyone should come here. -

Having a huge craving for some fresh sushi, I decided to venture away from the hotel and satisfy my cravings. So I headed out in the rain, inputted the spot on the GPS and drove off. I spent the majority of the time driving up and down Powers Ferry Rd and could not find the place. After 30 minutes I trekked back and finally found it in the Publix Supermarket shopping center. But my adventure was well worth the wait.
I was greeted at the door by the sushi chefs and waitresses and was promptly seated at the sushi bar. Within minutes, the took my order and gave me a bowl of edamames. I decided on the Matsu Sashimi (17 pc. of sashimi, chef choice), a Godzilla roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll. I was served a bowl of Miso Soup (good) and a salad (delicious). The Sashimi was fresh and amazing, the rolls were equally delicious. To finish it off, they gave me a cup of Green Tea and some flan.
The service was quick and polite. I highly recommend this place. -

This place is pretty good.
I came here w/ 20 or so others for a birthday party. We were seated in our very own private dinning room. The real Japanese experience where we were seated on mats with low dining tables.
The food was phenomenon. The combo dinner that my boyfriend ordered was perfect. The combo was teriyaki salmon and deep friend squid w/ mixed tempura, miso soup, steamed rice, salad, and mixed fruit. All for $25. I ordered the kitsune udon which is udon noodle soup w/ raw egg. it was delicious. My friend ordered two rolls: rainbow and the other one i don't know the name of.
The staff is super nice. They are so cute. We were given free desert. The choices were between: fruity ice cream or flan.
This place is perfect for a big group or a date.
Overall, it was a great experience. I would definitely be visiting again. -

Atlanta, GA
For consistently high ratings on Yelp, I found this place to be average. Service was good, staff was friendly, but the food just didn't thrill me. Also disappointed in their very limited sake selection - unfiltered was good as usual, but I like options. Spinach app was meh. Dumplings had something so strong in them that I smelled them on my breath the rest of the night. Fried oysters, normally done with alot of care and concern at Japanese restaurants, were battered in a strange tempura batter here and just felt canned. Sushi rolls were overpriced at about $15 each. Not sure I'd go back, wasn't impressed. Oh, and atmosphere was weirdly fast-food like. Almost as though they decided to install booths in a fast food restaurant as an afterthought - no ambient lighting, no frills, and very cold the night we went...no thanks.

Extremely good service and delicious sushi. The old server was very helpful. I had samurai roll about five years ago. It was not that good like previous but the dragon roll was the best.

This place is absolutely amazing!
I made a reservation for 20 people at this place for my boyfriend's birthday because he loves sushi. None of us have ever been here, and we all left, knowing that we will definitely come back.
24 people ended up showing up but service was still on point!
Extremely nice staff, and the elder lady is just too cute! LOL.
We ordered practically everything on the menu, but I specifically had the spicy tuna roll, the dragon roll, and my boyfriend had the combo dinner.
The sushi was amazing, the combo meal was delicious, and they didn't even charge a cake fee like everywhere else.
Only down side was.. we had to sit traditional asian style, because of the size of the group, which meant on the floor, but I think only the really tall guys and the girls with skirts had a true problem with this.
Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone! -

I was reluctant to try this place since it's sitting in the the Publix shopping center, which looks like the building was an old cleaners? Anyway, my girlfriend and I checked it out one night in the mood to try something different from Ru Sans.
First impression was WAY too bright in there. Not a real great atmosphere, which seems easily resolved with a light dimmer? It was like "Diner bright" in there, and that strangely put me off right away. The servers are dressed in classic Japanese garb, which looks very nice, however our server seemed a little rude or maybe just not very attentive unfortunately. The other servers seemed to be interacting more with the patrons.
The menu is definitely different from what I was used to in other sushi places, and the back page written all in Japanese for those people who can read that. Or as I brought myself to believe is the "special" menu for those so inclined to be able to read it, and were rewarded for knowing?!
Anyway, for some reason my girlfriend got the Chicken Terriaki, because it looked and smelled good as it was brought out in front of her for another guest, so only I had sushi. I believe it was a salmon/tuna combo of sorts, and it was very fresh and delicious. It wasn't the best I ever had, but definitely more fresh and carefully prepared than say Ru Sans. Even though it's hard to beat that place when you compare prices and atmosphere.
I'm hoping to go back and try again, but this time with a little Sake involved to heighten my mood, maybe sit at the sushi bar, which looks more fun, and avoid the silent angry server. -
Review from Helena W.
I love this place!!! Its worth EVERY penny!!! We always sit at the sushi bar and ask them to make something good. This way it gives us something new to try and we dont look silly ordering a simple California roll. =)
In ordering rolls... you must try the geisha roll. So good!! -

(Visited: 7/30/11) Ammmmmazzzzing! Quality in every single detail. From the cleanliness, waitressing, sushi presentation and final bill: IMPECCABLE! I love the intimacy of this restaurant. I especially enjoy how personable the sushi chefs are! This restaurant is NOT overcrowded nor is it loud and uncomfortable. Sushi HUKU is my NEW spot! Thank for an amazing experience guys!

Your ramen special
Delicious as I eat it.
Melt the office chill.
$8.95 special. I think their pork ramen is very good. If your office building is as cold as mine, it will warm you up.
It's a short review because it's end of the fiscal year at my work. I promise I'll do better next time. -
Review from Jang C.
I haven't been here in 3 years. I stopped going here after my favorite waitress left. She would always hook us up with a huge dessert. Although I think she did that to everyone. Oh well.
Luckily, nothing seems to have changed. Their quality of sushi still competes with the best sushis in Atlanta. It seems high quality to me.
When I ordered their omakase, they brought out their own soy sauce to dip it in. I think their house soy sauce does make a difference. It has a fuller body to it.
I also tried their non sushi items such as their grilled squid and their grilled, miso, honey salmon cheeks. Their grill squid tasted like yummy smoky ocean. They grilled it perfectly, and their magic sauce tasted delicious. I liked it a lot better than the one served at Shoya Izakaya.
Their salmon cheeks tasted good too. I never knew salmons had such tasty cheeks.
Also, they gave us incredible service. They all acted very sweet and friendly. The salmon cheeks took extra long to cook, so they gave us another bowl of edamame while we waited. I gave them bonus points for that. I also liked the stereotypical yukatas they wore.
However, I did pay an arm and an leg. You will have to splurge here if you don't want to go back home and eat a sandwich. Just like all good Japanese places, they give you small amounts of high quality food for a high price.
Besides the price, everything else seems as good as it gets. I give it 4.5 stars.Listed in: Japanese Places, Places to Eat Around Smynings

Authentic for sure. You will only find Japanese cuisine that is specific to the Tokyo region. For instance, you won't find Sapporo beer or ramen noodles (Hokkaido).
Yummy fresh sushi - really good uni.
Perfect Matcha green tea.
Hot towels before appetizer and hot towels before dessert.
Really cozy and quaint atmosphere. Very attentive and sweet Japanese staff.
Yummy yummy yummy mochi ice cream with azuki beans.
Simply OishiiiiiiI!!!! ^__^
They brew their own soy sauce. Many nigiri pieces have FRESH GRATED wasabi on top. (Note this is not the green wasabi powder that I'm referring to)
Absolutely authentic. A gem of a restaurant.
Prices are high, but worth it. They've been best of Zagat rated for more than 5 years in a row. They've gotta be doing something right! -

The highlight of the meal was our appetizer and dessert. We ordered the appetizer from the list of specials. It was 3 types of seasoned raw fish and server told us to eat it without soy sauce. It was delish! Our server gave us 2 sample desserts, the lime sorbet and flan. Both was really yummy.
For our meal, we also ordered large sashimi which was 2 of every type of fish. Some of the fish was not that fresh, which is pretty important to me.
Interesting note:
The sashimi plate came with a fish head with bones for body. The server fried it for us and insisted that its edible. It's not too bad, kind of taste like shrimp chips.
The service was superb!
I do want to come back and try other things on the menu, probably from the kitchen instead of sushi bar. -
Review from Song S.
Deserves 4.5 stars in my book. Located in a strip mall with a ridiculously steep driveway, this sushi joint was a surprising gem. Sitting inside in the austere dining room, I could've been in Japan. There are seats at the sushi bar, at booths, at tables, and in tatami rooms. We made a reservation for a table on Saturday (which btw they seemed terribly confused by. They may only be really busy on the weekdays).
Sashimi was PERFECT. We had the tuna, yellowtail, mackerel, and squid, and everything was just right. The right bite, the right texture, and the right temperature. Oh, and the eel. The EEL! I'm a big fan of eel, and this place makes me wish it was a little closer so I can come in for lunch and have eel over rice. It was charred just right and not too saucy.
They ran out of tuna to make a tuna and green onion roll, so we ordered one of their special rolls: Kondo Box. The rice to fish ratio was too high for my liking and I got Too Full Too Fast (possible prequel for a movie, I'm sure). Served with a spicy mayo sauce, it was just a-ok.
While they didn't have hamachi kama, we ordered the collar of the salmon on the recommendation of the waitress. It was marinaded in miso and simple, but pretty delicious.
Service can be quite slow compared to western standards (it takes 10 to set up a table?), but I gave the ladies a break since they were walking pretty fast in their kimonos and geta. Our waitress wasn't the most personable, but everyone seemed to love the older lady of the establishment.
This place is pretty authentic and definitely warrants a revisit for the fish alone. -

Apparently, Cobb is the epicenter of overrated, overpriced sushi.
There were some good signs here at first. Tatami rooms. Young Japanese hipsters. Regulars. I overheard someone telling her friend that Huku was like the Japanese Cheers. I was hopeful.
Until the Gomae (sesame spinach) came. Not good-slimy with an overly sweet sauce. Hmph. Then I had some chewy slabs of fish. Again, not happy. Finally, a crab roll came with a solo chunk of surimi in it. I didn't see k-rab on the damn menu, and the sloppily prepared roll wasn't even stuck together so that rice was falling out before I even touched it. At these prices, this was an insult.
The best thing I had that night was the Sapporo draft, and that gets it's own star, because without it, the sting of disappointment might have been overwhelming...

Excellent again! I actually ordered off the menu so I know the names of what I ate this time. I had the tempura udon and a few bites of my friend's chicken teriyaki.
I love udon and I am very picky when it comes to udon. Sushi Huku's udon was delicious! The noodles were nice and thick and perfectly cooked. The broth was so tasty. I would go back to Sushi Huku just for the udon.
The chicken teriyaki was very tasty also. It presented sizzling on a cast iron plate, fancy! The chicken was so juicy and tender over a bed of vegetables. The sauce was sweet and light. It was probably the healthiest chicken teriyaki I've ever had.
Another great experience at Sushi Huku. Cooked or not, the food is excellent. My taste buds are already screaming for more!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Tastes pretty good but the waitress was strange. We paid with a credit card but were going to leave our tip in cash. When she took our receipts she point out, very aggressively that she had not tipped and shoved the receipt back. My friend tried to explain that she would be leaving the tip in cash and the woman just looked at her and said "you leave tip!"

This rating is based on their sushi. With such amazing "melt in your mouth" sushi, I have never ordered an entree here. Make sure to ask for the sushi menu during lunch or dinner. My affair with Sushi Huku started a few years ago. Life got busy and I realized that I didn't have a Sushi Huku fix for almost 2 years...yikes! Time flies! I haven't found sushi that touches the level of quality of Sushi Huku. I went there last week and it was still just as amazing.
There is a marked difference in sushi quality due to the fact that Sushi Huku is authentically Japanese and that the sushi chefs are the real deal. Sushi is taken very seriously in Japan and treated as a true art form. While I have had some very yummy sushi from other establishments that had non-Japanese "sushi chefs," most are pseudo-sushi chefs at the end of the day and not even close to the level of the real sushi chefs with years of training and experience from Japan. It is very hard to find, but Sushi Huku has authentic Japanese sushi chefs. The servers are also Japanese and very friendly.
While they are more expensive than some of the other sushi places in town, you get what you pay for at this place. You are not paying for ambiance, because it is rather bland and the restaurant is oddly placed in a parking lot next to a seedy strip club. Try the Toro Nigiri and Samurai Roll. Ask them for the paper sushi menu. I can't wait to try the Omakase as another Yelper suggested. -

Two words describe this sushi joint in Atlanta for me - Absolutely Marvelous.
From the food, to the decor, to the wonderful people who work here. I have become somewhat of a regular and a fan of Sushi Huku and am now can even consider myself friends with the owners. Now that's saying a lot. They've won me over not only by their delicious food, but by their commitment to customer satisfaction.
I've had the privilege of eating Sushi Huku's delectable sushi, sashimi, and sushi specialty rolls a total of about 7 times so far. 6 of those 7 times have been at their restaurant, a very well designed establishment that makes me feel like I'm in Japan; while 1 of those experiences was off site at a baby shower of a good friend of mine who had Sushi Huku catered. On one of my visits, the owner was generous enough to treat me and my friend to a glass of their brand new Asahi beer on tap. I was a happy camper. Apparently, I was informed Sushi Huku is an exclusive distributors of Asahi Beer served this way. nice.
Presently, I try to come here when I'm looking to impress business clients with great food, and atmosphere, but w/o having to spend too much money. The quality and taste of the sushi is certainly top notch and I feel the prices are very reasonable to what you get. If I can add anythying to the discussion here, I"d like to encourage you to not be afraid to ask the chef or owner here to make you up a tasty dish of whatever he feel likes. I did this twice and enjoyed not only sushi, but also some other excellent Japanese dishes.
Parking is plentiful so no worries there.
Overall, I give Sushi Huku 5 star for food, 5 stars for friendly and personable service, 5 for atmosphere and decor, 4.7 stars for prices.
Rounded down that's a 4 (but that would be ridiculous & plain mean in this case), rounded up, that's easily a 5. Kudos & much love to you guys! Keep up the great work. -

Delicious omakase. Great meal tonight.
This place is a little gem next to my hotel in the ATL. I was in Atlanta for work and decided to try this place. I first made it here for lunch and had the bento box lunch and it was awesome. It had so many different items. I had the teriaki salmon and shrimp tempura. It also came with salad, chicken crisp, miso soup, and sweet potato. Delicious.
So then I made it back for dinner. I went with the Omakase and I am soo happy I did so. The young owner/sushi chef was so accommodating and knowledgeable along with the rest of the staff. I was by myself and they made me feel so comfortable and at home. I had some great sushi which included the Japanese melon (try it to find out), aji, squid with uni sauce (OMG), yellow tail belly, Cali fusion sushi ( i live in Cali so he thought it would be cool), in house marinated salmon eggs, red snapper, salmon, tuna, etc. I am so ready to go there again next week.
BUT, I live in the CA so I have to wait for my next trip out there. I guess I have to make and emergency trip soon.
Thanks for an unexpected Delicious meal in the ATL sushi-huku. Made my travels so much better. -

A jewel of a find for a restaurant, especially a sushi restaurant. This free standing medium size authentic Japanese restaurant serves the freshest fish around by the most friendly Japanese wait staff I have even seen. If you like good quality sushi and prefer none standard Americanized version, then you must try Sushi Huku. Be adventurous and sample their ever changing appetizers. You will not be disappointed.

Gold star to this place for authenticity! For starters, the wait staff is actually Japanese, which is not a given 'round these parts.
The sushi is fresh and snappy. I would rate everything I've eaten there as either "quite tasty" or "super delish"!
The only thing I'm not crazy about is price. My Old Navy jeans cost less than a Hawaiian Roll. Until I get a raise, I'm out of luck at Sushi Huku. -

Get the Omakase (chef's choice) and don't look back!!!
This place is simply amazing. The fish tasted like it came straight from Tsukiji (Tokyo fish market), the rice was perfectly prepared - light but didn't fall apart, the staff was attentive and extremely friendly. The agedashi tofu was as good as I've had and the prices are extremely reasonable given how good the food is! Perfect meal.
Highly recommended and worth a drive no matter where you live in Atlanta! -

Did you know? Sushi-huku has lunch specials which come with salad and soup for $15.95 --
(1) 4 pc california roll, sashimi & tuna, shrimp, sushi
(2) 11 pc sashimi
I decided to go here just bc of the Yelp reviews and it was actually kinda hard to find. It's in the publix shopping center free from the building and that's probably the only shopping look-a-like area there is.
The sushi chefs are great and they're so friendly. I think this is the only place I've been to where the chefs actually speak japanese. Knowing that, it's gotta be authentic.
The combo came with soup and salad. The salad is actually really fresh and with enough seasoning in the dressing -- no watered down juice! I really did enjoy it with just enough ginger to not overload my taste buds. However, the soup was okay. I felt like it was missing some salt. It was kinda bland.
The 11 pc sashimi came with rice so you could eat that if you weren't full. Either way, its not a lot of food and it barely filled me up. When it came out, it looked soooooo pretty. As far as what I could identify, it had 1 cuttlefish, 2 tuna, 1 snapper, 1 mackerel, 2 octopus, 2 yellowtail, 2 salmon, and 1 piece of white fish I could not identify... The quality of the fish is okay I would say. That is kinda hard to find in Atlanta -- okay quality. So Id give it 4 stars meaning I'd be willing to return bc it meets my standards. -
Review from Amrita R.
This place was sooooo delicious. Great service, prompt sushi, not too unreasonably priced (if you don't get the 15.50 rolls which we didn't)
The only thing I didn't care for much was the sea eel roll. The waitress told me that it was different from regular eel since it was more tender, but there was more rice than eel and I could barely taste it. What I did taste was sweeter than I prefer my sushi to be.
But the home depot roll was our absolute fave. You have to try it! Scallops and crunchiness (they'll describe it better when you ask) and so so tasty. Everyone at the table enjoyed that one the most.
We might just go with the chef's choices next time, since we saw someone at another table order it and it looked amazing. It was the Kondo-san box!
They even had fresh flounder, so fresh the waitress proudly told us it had just been alive that morning...
I would love to come back here again and again :) -

I would give this place just three stars for not being as stand-out as everybody tells me it is, but the sushi was some of the freshest I've ever had on the East Coast (and when you live on the West Coast, you expect a fresh plate of sushi)!
The only thing that really stood out besides the quality of the food was the quality of the service. They leave you alone and let you enjoy your food, but they always seem to know you need something before you realize you even need it. That's hard to come by.
Overall, the sushi's pretty darn good. Just make sure that if you have a major reaction to spicy foods (I'm practically allergic), you double-check before ordering. There's nothing on the menu that indicates otherwise, unless you're ordering spicy tuna. -

5.5 Stars.
If atmosphere is removed from the equation, Sushi-Huku is simply the best sushi restaurant in the country. Yes, I just said that. (Not that the atmosphere is bad.)
Sushi-Huku is authentic, reasonably priced, and has the freshest fish in ATL. The service is almost that of a fine dining establishment. The salads are awesome. I've been multiple times, and each time is seemingly gets better and better.
If rolls are your thing, I would highly recommend Sushi Huku's rendition of the classical rainbow roll. They serve it with thick cuts of fish, and you can literally taste the freshness. The Lambada roll is delicious as well. Both are must try's.
If sushi is your thing, I've never had a cut of fish I didn't enjoy. Everything they serve tastes as fresh as the time I caught a tuna deep sea fishing and immediately sliced it open for sashimi (true story, and highly recommended if you get the chance). The fish is simply extraordinary.
I love this place. If I could give it more stars I would. Please try this place for your own sake! And wash it all down with an Asahi draft. Sounds like the perfect night to me... -

I'm kind of a sushi snob, so the first thing I look at when I'm about to order sushi is who's behind the sushi bar. If I see any non-Asians, I immediately dock points off in my mind. There's a lot of deep tradition and etiquette that goes into the art of making sushi, and I don't think a few weeks in some cooking classes can cut it. To make a long story short, Kondo-san, one of the sushi chefs, has been preparing sushi for some change short of 30 years. That's longer than I've been alive, people (although not by much).
Lambada roll, soft shell crab roll, and Kondo-san's Kondo-box. These are my favorite rolls, and I suggest you try them if you haven't before. The Kondo-box is, as its name states, box-style sushi, which is an older style of sushi.
The fish is fresh and of good quality; you can see for yourself because the fish used for sushi/sashimi is viewable in the glass at the sushi bar.
The best part is that everyone behind the bar can and will happily help you if you're not sure of what you want. If you've had sushi before and know what you like, I'd suggest just asking J-san to surprise you. He's got a knack for picking new things for me to try that I always end up loving. -

I came back for round two. This place gets better and better in my book. This time, we sat at the bar and we got to know the chefs a little better. All 3 chefs, Chef Kondo-san, Peter-san, and Jay-san (owner) are a dynamic trio. It's great seeing all 3 in action and observing how much they enjoy working with each other. Sitting at the bar, you're in reach of the special soy sauce made by one of the chefs. It has its own label, lol. There's a lot of specialty items carried by this restaurant aside from sushi (hidden menu). For instance, tonight, I got to try "squid mouth", special clams that are very sweet, and shrimp and shiitake mushaboom. If I could, I'd give this place 6 stars.
Btw, they're open for lunch as of 2010. Please see attached pics1 Previous Review: Show all »

First of all, the old Japanese lady who served us was WAY too cute! I'd go back just for her even if the food wasn't top notch! She was shocked at how much food we ordered for 2 people, and laughed this anime old lady laugh that was so funny.
Now onto the food! Check out my photos~ Everything we ordered was DELICIOUS. They didn't mess up one thing. We got at least 10 dishes! 4 kinds of sushi, pork katsu appetizer, grilled squid, chicken gizzards, grilled salmon cheek, tempura combo, shogayaki, and complimentary custard dessert!
The sushi was high quality and tasty, the unagi nigiris just melt in your mouth! The tempura was made just right and the combo came with a great variety of veggies along with 5 large pieces of shrimp. My favorite was perhaps the grilled squid, which the old lady recommended! It was SO fresh and cooked just right, I don't think I've had squid that's this tender after cooking. The salmon cheek was like a buttery explosion of fresh fish flavor in my mouth.
The shogayaki - ginger and scallion pork - was amazing. The thin pork slices were tender and just fatty enough, and the flavor was amazing, a perfect dish with white rice. Their white rice was also delicious, cooked just right and obviously high quality.
Perhaps the only little thing I could complain about is the pork katsu appetizer, the meat was just a bit too dry and tough.
The complimentary custard was DELICIOUS. Very authentic and home made. We also had a choice of lemon sorbet.
Service was so quick and friendly. Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves Japanese food. I do believe that this is a Japanese owned joint. -

A good authentic dinner with my Dad!! We both tried this place out for the first time last night.. Its a small Restaurant, and the waitress wear very authentic Japanese outfits which goes with this Restaurant.. When your seated you get water, a hot towel, and complimentary edamame. For dinner I got chicken teriyaki, which comes with miso soup, salad and dessert. My dad got a combination dinner of salmon teriyaki box dinner. miso soup was good, and they bring out the chicken on a hot sizzling plate. Food was very good, I enjoyed it. Oh ya the rice come out a little before the meal in a small bowl. My dads meal was a big portion that he and even I had leftovers.. My dad also enjoyed his meal too. When your done they give you another hot towel to clean your hands. I like restaurants that give hot towels. For dessert you get flawn, which my dad enjoyed, me not so much but they also have a few ice cream flavors to choose from but its extra. Flawn is the dessert that comes with the dinner meals. I did get vanilla ice cream and they put chocolate syrup on it so it was yummy!! Everything enjoyable!! PS: they have one of those tables where I think you take your shoes off and sit on the ground. That looked like fun to me, and would love to try that next time with the whole family.. Well if your in the area come give this place a try.
