One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
When I have the taste for sashimi, I fill up the car and drive 80 miles to go to Sushi Go 55. There are probably 500 other sushi restaurants closer to me, and I will stay closer for a spicy tuna roll and tempura, but I will only trust one place for Chirashi and sunomono that reminds me of eating at my grandma's house.
They always have the freshest fish, and their rice is seasoned perfectly. In addition to the Chirashi (lunch at $17 is still a deal), I will treat myself to one other piece of deliciousness (be it live sweet shrimp, scallop nigiri, blue crab handroll, or anything else that is recommended that day). I have yet to try toro or uni, but I'm sure that will happen soon enough.
I always want to order more food, but I have to save a bit of room to get a cream puff at Beard Papa on the main floor of the shopping center.

Blue friggin crab hand rolls!!!!!!!
awesome lunch specials, this is the real deal!
Chirashi bowl -- awesome
Eel Plate -- yum! I love eel. So much eel!
I love it that they bring you not only miso soup with your order, but other small items to nibble on as well.
Very delicious. Can't wait to go back for my 2nd time.
Just did a new review of Sushi Go 55 along with other low cost sushi lunch spots in Little Tokyo.
Here is an excerpt: We ordered the following specials: Chirashi ($17); Nigiri Matsu with 10 pieces of sushi and 6 tuna rolls ($16) and Sashimi Lunch with tuna, yellowtail, albacore, salmon, whitefish and octopus ($16). Chirashi (meaning "scattered sushi") provides the best value and is my recommendation. I liked how the rice and the sashimi came in separate compartments. The presentation was beautiful and artfully arranged. All in all, the yellowtail, mackerel, salmon, albacore and octopus were good. I cannot say the same for the tuna as it was chewy and fibrous. The menu also contained what they entitled the "New Economy Lunch Special." For $12.75, you can try a mini sashimi lunch with tuna, yellowtail, salmon and halibut plus rice and miso soup.
See: http://www.SushiLush.com
So, I've always been the type to stick with albacore and salmon, the simple things. For some reason, I got brave when I arrived at Sushi Go 55. Perhaps it was sushi bar's aromatic Pier-like smell. Okay, so I didn't like the smell, but maybe that means everything's fresh right? I think we tried everything on the recommendations board (which wasn't too bad). The albacore was to die for. And surprisingly, the sea urchin was really good. Red snapper was good too. It's worth trying.
By far THE best dollar value for Sushi in Little Tokyo is Sushi Go 55.
Omakase - Chef's choice - would run around 60-100/person depending on what you eat.
But if you order their set meals, particularly the Chirashi or Matsu specials, you will be in for a surprise. The food is very fresh, tasty and the portion size will actually fill you up, even if its only 20 bucks or less. Again, I stress the value here. Service is also quite good.
Lots of people complain about their "rolls". Well let me tell you - that is not sushi. Those dragon and spider rolls, while possibly invented by Nobu and friends, are usually served in Korean-owned Japanese restaurants. This is a Japanese owned spot and they cater to people who want raw fish on rice, not the Asian equivalent to McDonald's cuisine.
Sushi Go 55 is a great place to hit up for good quality sushi that is still affordable. When I visited, I ordered the sashimi take (the smaller one) which had tuna, yellowtail, halibut, albacore, and salmon and also included a bowl of rice, miso soup, and some Japanese pickled items. Unlike most sashimi dinners at sushi bars, this is both filling AND very fresh. They also have a fair amount of sushi specials ranging from otoro (premium fatty tuna) to akimono (monkfish liver) to live scallop. I also added a kohada sushi (gizzard shad) to my order, which was excellent: smooth, tender, and with the subtle flavor of the ocean. I meant to add more of their sushi specials, like my friends did, but I was so full already from my sashimi dinner.
Oh, I also tried a bite of my friend's eggplant stuffed with ground beef tempura. I've never had tempura like this before. It was very tasty, not too oily. That said, I'd stick with the sushi here.
It isn't quite to the level of Sasabune, Sushi Sushi, or even Sushi Hama, but it is far above average and more reasonably priced. I didn't sit at the sushi bar as we were a group of six (and yes, Sushi Go 55 takes reservations AND validates parking!) but I'll give that a try next time. I'll also probably add more of their daily specials, like my friends did.
One of the most authentic Japanese sushi sashimi restaurant in LA!
Go during lunch to enjoy their lunch specials. One of the things to order includes the Chirashi, a complete Sashimi set that is 100% worth its price. Thick, fresh, juicy sashimi strips on a bed of sushi rice, and expect a wide range of sashimi in it.
Their cooked items are good too! Black cod, salmon, and they have chawanmushi too! Definitely not your typical American Japanese restaurant.
I have been to this place so many times and the fish/sashimi are always fresh and delicious. Love the hamachi kama too, always juicy.
Mom and I each got the Chirashi ($17) and the Nigiri Matsu ($16), each came with a bowl of miso soup, pickled cucumbers and seaweed+pickled cabbages.
I am struggling a little giving the rating, probably more of a 3.5 for me. 0.5 for the quick, friendly service, free 2-hr parking near/in little tokyo + free soup/extra little side dishes. But I really didn't think the quality of the fishes were TOP GRADE... better than some of the other Korean-owned Japanese restaurants I've tried, quantity is there.... but I guess I have had higher expectations after reading raving reviews...
gotta try Hama and Komasa soon :)
ATTENTION WHITE PEOPLE: You have rarely been spotted at Sushi Go 55, and I love that. Stay out of this restaurant. It's where Japanese people go to eat sushi.
I'm totally kidding, but this is a real sushi spot. I usually have no idea what I'm ordering when I sit at the sushi bar. I just let the chef do his thing and I've never been disappointed. In an otherwise desolate mall, this place is a treat.
I was more than willing to give this place a chance, as when I called around at dinner time, it was the only sushi place within walking distance of where we were in Little Tokyo that didn't have a long waiting list. That should have been a sign.
The atmosphere is terrible, inside of a semi run-down mall, but we were still optimistic given the good reviews on Yelp.
Between the three of us, we ordered 2 rainbow rolls and salmon sashimi. The rainbow rolls were decent (similar or inferior to those I've had for $7.99, though these were $12). The kicker was the salmon sashimi - it was terrible, fishy tasting, chewy, it just seemed like something that came out of the day-old pile.
When we complained about the salmon sashimi, the waitress explained that it was just wild salmon, and that's how wild salmon tasted. We explained very clearly - no, this is not right - something is wrong with the fish... they explained that we could BUY another order, and they still charged us for the bad order, though only about 10% was eaten.
Terrible customer service, and mediocre fish.
***UPDATE 11/7/09***
To their credit, the general manager contacted me based on the above Yelp review, and offered restaurant credit equal to the cost of the wild salmon. I probably won't take up the offer, but it is commendable and I'm increasing my review from 1 star to 2 stars.
My favorite sushi in all of LA. Love Ms. Kimoko-san (owner) and Jun-san (our favorite chef). It's the only place I'll belly up to the bar and say, "Chef's choice please." Very traditional serving style. It's the anti-katsu-ya.
The yellowtail will ruin you forever. You've been warned.
Went for lunch the other day and ordered the Chirashi which ran a little over $17. Not cheap as far as lunch standards go, but it was a good portion of good with quality fish. It also came with a bowl of miso soup, pickled cucumbers, and another small dish for quick snacking. Yum.
Sushi Go 55 is on the third floor of the plaza and was a struggle to find but it was worth it. We arrived a little before noon and just beat the lunch rush. Service was good and we ordered they just came back to refill our waters as appropriate.
I'd recommend it and hope to be back for more sushi dining.
Nice fresh sushi.
I had anago (fresh water eel), saba (mackarel) among others sushi.
It's comparable to Sushi Gen in freshness. This place is definitely among my first picks for sushi.
Their lunch chirashi is pretty good for the price.
One of the best hidden secrets in Little Tokyo. And the main reason why it's a secret is because it's on the third floor of a mall that hardly anyone ever wandered about.
Some of the best salmon sushi I have ever eaten. I love me some Salmon sashimi. I don't mind it on rice if need be, but there's something about Salmon that I need to have it whenever I get some sushi. I suppose it's the first type of fish I tried when I was introduced to the lovely raw fish craze and it's always going to hold a special place in my heart... along with whatever heart worms I get from eating it from poorly run sushi joints.
But this isn't one of them. This is one of the better ones. Open in the afternoon, this little place is tucked away and I have never had bad service here. Not once. They treat you like a king.
The mixed sashimi plate is pretty good for the price and really, the happy hour specials are really great. Cheap Japanese beer. Holy crap, I'm in love. Tip to get is the Chirashi Matsu. So damn good. So god damn good!
Mummy hails from Tokyo, so I've worked hard to develop an understanding of what good Japanese fare consists of. Forget your Katsuyas and your Geisha Houses and your trendy sushi lounge club reality show bar restaurants that litter the Westside landscape. The Japanese avoid such places like the Jews avoid Jerry's and the Chinese avoid Panda.
Hidden on the top floor of a once Japanese owned, now Korean owned, multi-storey shopping center, Sushi Go 55 (pronounced Sushi Go Go Go, as "go" means 5 in Japanese), offers Japanese fare that fits the standard of any typical Japanese salaryman.
Aside from having a trio of skilled sushi chefs at the helm, Sushi Go 55 offers dishes that showcase miso marinated black cod, sauteed monkfish liver, and chawanmushi egg custard with ginko nuts and yuzu. Staffed by a trickling of Japanese expats, you won't find any actor/model types trying to upsell dynamite rolls or spicy tuna rolls (Jebus, I used to be one myself). Go to Go-Go, and try not to manipulate the menu. Show a little humility and you will get to ingest a delicate dose of Japanese authenticity.
They have wide range of different fishes/clams/whatever else for sashimi. The sushi chefs and waitresses there are very nice and friendly. Service is good . I love the orange clams, sashimi or sushi, both is good--it's at market price but it's worth it. Conch soup is really good! Oysters are fresh and yummy. I'm drooling just thinking about them...
I can't believe I didn't write a review for this fabulous place yet. Well, it certainly deserves to be my 100th review!!
This place is an absolute must! An indication that a sushi place is good and reputable is if you see other Japanese people (FROM JAPAN) patronize the restaurant.
Come here during lunch to get their lunch sampler. Some of the freshest sushi around! It used be $10 for roughly 6 pieces of sushi with an unbelieveably good blue crab handroll. Now I think it's $11.50 (hey- with this recession, they got to pay the bills!) Or try their chirashi bowl. Lots of GOOD sashimi for about $15 that will surely fill you up.
For dinner, I recommend sitting at the bar. There were 3 Fridays in a row where my friend and I came here for dinner and we sat in front of the same sushi chef. The last Friday we came, he did omakase for us. It was SUUUUUPPPPPER GOOD. The fish was allllll fresh (you just have to TRUST me on this). Each dish came with two pieces of the same fish, but prepared two different ways. It can get a little pricey, but it's TOTALLY worth it. My friend, who went to Tokyo recently, said this place has the some of the best toro outside of Japan.
It may be hard to find this place at first, but once you find it, you'll never forget it.
Make reservations as it can get packed depending on the time you come here.
It's been more consistant the last couple times I went.
BUT their lunch chirashi is now $17.
I mean in this economy??? really???
They better be fresh and yummy every single time I come.
Grrrarrr!!!!

Yelpers said the rating for Sushi Go 55 is half star below Sushi Gen, which is 4.5 star.
In my view, they may not have better quality sushi than Sushi Gen, but they do have some surprising daily sushi for the day. i.e., Scallop Sushi & OOOOOtoro~~
I had a good time spending nice dinner with my friend and I will go back again for its splendid sushi ^^
Better than I've had in Japan. Their uni is so sweet and fresh. Love their live sweet shrimp. Most times I get the heads fried. Their spanish mackerel (Achi) is soooooo good with grated ginger and ponzu sauce. I like the fish selection, fresh fish and friendly service here.
This is a decent sushi place, 100% Japanese (some people, like me, refuse to acknowledge and say good things about Americanized/Koreanized Japanese food). The food quality is great, and the price is better than reasonable! I especially like its Chirashi.
The service though, if I may say, has room for improvement! Where is the fire? Sushi ain't fast food. Joudan ja nai!!
During my last visit (dinner time), I felt rushed. There were idle waitresses who were doing nothing but standing around to watch customers eat. Before we even finished, the plates were taken away, and they kept coming back trying to take our plates! Ano...what's up with that? Let people finish! We wanted to clean our plates because your food was yummy.
Will come back to dine here again, but please don't serve sushi in a fast food fashion!
Sushi Go 55 consistently has the freshest and best-tasting fish I've had in LA. This is a traditionalist's sushi place - if you're looking for out-of-the-box bizarro rolls, go somewhere else. But for straightforward, high-quality sushi and sashimi, you can't go wrong here. I'm shocked to read stories about sub-par service - my experience is that the service is attentive without being oppressive. But it all comes down to the fish, which is where Sushi Go 55 really shines.
I had sushi here because the reviews were high!! I ate spicy tuna and mix sashimi (tuna, salmon, etc).. the fish was not that fresh.. sushi is suppose to melt in your mouth.. the texture was hard. My stomach starting hurting 2 hrs later.. and i threw up.. food poisoning !!!
I just had Sushi Go 55 tonight for the first time. I cashed in a dinner IOU from a friend. IT WAS SO SO SO SO FRIGGIN GOOD!
I can hands down say that the scallop sushi was the BEST that I have EVER had. THe chef made it with large fresh scallop, halved. Underneath was a pounded shiso leaf with the rib removed and a small oval of rice. He dressed it with a small bit of ponzu sauce and served it on a small dish. He warned me, "No soy sauce on this."
IT WAS AMAAAAZZZING
I had 3 more orders!
Meanwhile, I also had the yellowtail sushi (of course I asked for the best stuff, the belly!) IT Melted in my mouth, imagine a yellowtail toro...I was in heaven!
He prepared the tako by tenderizing with the back of him knife and sprinkled salt and lemon juice on the meat before wrapping it with a sliver of nori. SO good!
Everything we had was delicious, the uni, the salmons (both the wild and the king) the maguro, unagi, saba, spider roll....
Wait, just take me with you when you go next and I promise to be your culinary guide!
hadnt been in a while so took a detour north and stopped by for lunch this last weekend on my way back home from West LA (weather was beautiful this weekend!)
anyway... in the end, my opinion was re-affirmed... the sushi is excellent, fresh, and the sides of potato salad & oshinko are so FOB, i love it. had some tuna, salmon, albacore & yellowtail sashimi that were all excellent... tuna wasnt the best grade, but still fresh and tasty. next had some mackeral sushi, kumamoto oysters, salmon eggs and uni sushi to wrap up.
this is the traditionalist's place... the server and chef both commented how happy they were that i liked the "fishy" stuff, i.e., antithesis of CA rolls, even moreso than other Japanese (i'm half Japanese), whatever that meant...
but either way, while excellent, fresh, melt in your mouth goodness (the albacore, mackeral and uni were epic), all in all everything is really just a point down from places like Komasa and Gen in Little-T (not to mention its one of the few good places open for lunch)... that said, i like this place alot and am looking forward to my next visit soon!
Best sushi spot in Little Tokyo by a mile!
Quality service from the staff and the chefs always interact with the clients. Very reasonably priced and, considering the area, the parking requires no work since there is a lot and the restaurant validates.
Top recommendations: albacore, yellowtail, fresh water eel, fried shrimp tempura (if you get the right chef, he will include the head) and the spicy tuna rolls are among the best I've had (they top the rolls off with toasted sesame seeds). The sake selection is fantastic as well!
Great food! Great beverages! Great service! Great prices!
I will be going back here and often!
Everyone seems to sing such high praises for this place, but the only song that comes to my mind when Sushi Go 55 is mentioned is http://diarrheasong.bl.../.
If I got diarrhea from sushi, I wonder if I got hepatitis too? I'm scared now.
You: But Winnie L., are you sure it's from this place?
Me: Yep, especially since both of my friends got hit with the same problem except one threw up and the other contracted Intestinal Drano like I did. Food poisoning usually happens within 1-2 hours of eating, and we all didn't eat together for lunch, so Lunch is ruled out.
You: But diarrhea and hep don't warrant a 2-star rating
Me: Yeah it does and the dinner Chirashi wasn't all that great either. Cuts of fish were small and I felt that the slightly cheaper sashimi combo gave better value. The fish itself weren't that memorable
You: You're a fool
Me: Highly accurate. I should have been smarter and ate somewhere else!
Do you ever wonder if sushi chefs pretend not to understand English too well so that you'll feel more comfortable blabbing away detailed and graphic stories? I'd pretend not to understand English just to see what my clients would talk about too. Our sushi chef was quick and silent. I'm sure deep down inside he was laughing his ass off at us while he stood there idle most of the time.
If you're into real sushi.. real fresh sushi then this is the place for you. I always get either the Take or the Chirashi. You can't go wrong with the Chirashi. While the price is seriously resonable, it's going make you think you'll get less fish, but this is not the case. This is your bang for the buck fresh sushi in little tokyo. I love this place and I recommend it. If you're there for rolls, I don't really have an opinion. GOOD SUSHI at a VERY REASONABLE PRICE!!!!
Bad: Could be bigger, but i think every place in little tokyo is small (square footage wise .. to you dirty minded people)

Yes, five stars. Though this little gem is located in a nearly deserted indoor mall, it is still the best sashimi I've ever had! Every one at the table ordered the chirashi sushi, and no one was disappointed.
I'll be honest, I usually only eat salmon--I don't care for most other fish. At Sushi Go 55, I devoured every piece of generously cut fish in my bowl. For $17, there must've been at least 12 pieces of fish, 1 piece of octopus, 1 shrimp, 2 pieces of egg, and one imitation crab meat...along with a bowl of smelt roe/seaweed rice.
Go ahead and go in with a big appetite and high expectations--you won't be disappointed.
Took my mom and brother here for lunch yesterday after visiting the flower market in downtown LA. I did my research on Yelp prior to that because I wanted them to have some good sushi and decided that this would be a good place to go to.
We got there exactly at noon and the place was already half full. It was pretty small inside (7 tables) so we ended up sitting at the sushi bar which was not bad. We saw how the 3 sushi chefs prepared our food and the other orders as well.
We ordered the Chirashi Sushi, Chirashi Matsu with Uni & Ikura and the Tempura & Sashimi. Since we were there for lunch, it came with Miso Soup, Sunomono, Kobachi and Pickles on the side. Our food was ready in 10mins (since the tempura was the only one that needed to be cooked). I like how the Chirashi's have the rice and the sashimi in separate compartments. The food presentation was both beautiful and appealing.
The rice was very good and the sashimi was very fresh! My favorites were the Maguro and the Saba which both had that melt in your mouth goodness. I didn't care for the octopus since I generally do not like its rubbery like texture so I gave that one to my brother to eat (lol). I was also able to try the Uni for the first time and it had a very rich flavor and was so tasty. Reminds me of the roe that you get when eating fatty crabs. The tempura was also cooked perfectly, not too oily and not overly coated with batter.
With a wonderfully attentive staff (they made sure our cups always filled with hot tea!), it was a very enjoyable meal that filled us up pretty well. We're looking forward to coming back to this place the next time we are in downtown LA!
Dinner on a weekday.
I went last night and come here every couple of months. I typically order some rolls, and my standard are the no flash 6 pcs. rolls (spicy tuna $5.50, yellowtail $6.50). We generally end up spending a little under $20/person. Personal belief is that dishes are priced .50-$1 more than they should be, but it does have above average sushi. Here's my breakdown of what makes it good/unique:
- selection and presentation of dishes (see the other picture, not mine. They have some dishes that look picture perfect. )
- the wasabi (to me, this is one of the most memorable traits of this restaurant. Stronger wasabi taste, not quite as spicy... and you'll notice that it doesn't completely dissolve like other place. Note it.)
- Green tea is good, but a little too weak for me (I think other people like it, plus it's not just a tea bag.)
- Rarely a line or at most a short wait. (Several times I've gone to 2nd St. and heard there is a 45 minute or more wait time at multiple restaurants. That's when I take the 10 minute walk to this mall, head up to the top floor and walk in.)
- They validate if you park in the lot, or there is metered st. parking outside(meters free after 6pm).
Lunch people... I noticed a lot of people complaining about the $17 chirashi lunch combo, and I notice on the window today that they have a special $13 lunch item w/ 10+ different slices of fish. Someone else may want to confirm and comment on this... trying to let people know that they hear you and are trying.
Cons: Sometimes they refill your tea/water regularly, sometimes you have to call them over. The service has never been bad, but sometimes they're just standing around talking when I'm starring at them wanting my tea, but once they notice, they come right away. Also, the Chicken(see below).
The only thing I always dislike here is the teriyaki chicken. I know it's a sushi place, but every once in a while I think, "hmm, maybe I'll get the $11 teriyaki chicken or $16-17 teri chicken and tempura combo, and then once it arrives I remember and think, "How did I forget about this?". Tempura is good, the small salad on the plate is good, but the chicken... looks healthy, like it was steamed. No grill marks, white breast chicken thats a little dry, bland and tough. I'm writing this review primarily to remember not to order this again. Err to the chicken, yum to the wasabi.
Good sushi is expensive and I am not rich. So I really emphasize two things in a sushi restaurant. The first is really good, fresh fish with an emphasis on bringing in seasonal fish that isn't normally served at the run-of-the-mill sushi places. The second is a good sake selection - I know my sake, and Hakutsuru Junmai Draft Sake is NOT going to cut it! With that said, I am obviously not overly concerned with ambiance or neighborhoods because that usually pushes me out of my price point.
If you are in Downtown LA, I highly recommend you try Sushi Go 55. Tgey are located on the Third Floor of the Little Tokyo Japanese Shopping Plaza (which is sometimes called Mitsuwa Plaza except that Mitsuwa is no longer there since the plaza was taken over by Korean investors). As a side note, there is a great Japanese noodle place there too called Hanaichimonme.
The decor is very 80s Japanese style, but that hardly detracts from their fantastic menu, which leans heavily towards a traditional Japanese restaurant in Japan. The owner is a woman from Japan (who also owns Haru Ulala izakaya and Nirvana karaoke bar in Little Tokyo).
They obviously start with great ingredients for their food including making their own ponzu! They also have the best Amaebi (live sweet shrimp) that I have ever tasted. They always serve up seasonal fish from Japan as well. They have a great Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard with matsutake mushrooms, vegetables and shrimp) and salmon shioyaki (salt grilled). The prices are very reasonable too!
And of course, I can't forget about the sake. Otokoyama (dry) is a long standing favorite of mine, but the Onigoroshi (elegant) is really outstanding. If you are looking to get smashed quickly, you can try the shochu. The Shiranami is smooth and the Yokaichi has hint of cinnamon which is strange to me, but many people like it.
The service is professional and attentive, but not so friendly. Don't take that the wrong way though. That is how it is in Japan. The servers and chefs are meant to disappear into the background. Everyone who works here is from Japan so things are very authentic and real.
If you are looking for an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant that is neither Americanized, sterilized, fetishized nor idolized, this is the place for you!
Last time I came here I was slightly disappointed. The changes that I noticed were that the slices of fish seemed smaller than before. The prices maybe a bit higher. I spent more than I ever have here and didn't even order any of the higher priced cuts like Toro.
I still like the place, but I want to be impressed by the food I get and not sticker-shocked by the bill. Also, an itemized bill would be nice as well so I can say oh yeah, I did order that.

It was our friend's bday and he wanted sashimi and we were going to to to Sushi Gen but if said Sushi Go was his fave so we went here. This place is in a shopping center on the fringe of Little Tokyo and parking was abundant. Decor is typical sushi restaurant with a pretty large bar. We opted for a table.
We ordered sashimi plates and a tempura plate and a sushi roll. Sashimi was fresh and the pieces were large- larger in fact than other sushi houses I've been to. The tempura was very good with a light batter and non greasy. Portions were good. The rainbow roll we had was generous with the fish and good sized.
I didn't have an issue with the bill but we ordered their dinners and not a la carte sushi. Service was excellent as they have quite a few attentive waitresses. Price was good when you use the 10% coupon from Yelp.
I'd come back.
Although the sushi here is extremely fresh, tastes good and this place is authentic, I can't give it 5 stars. The reason is because there was nothing that WOWed me. The service was mediocre at best. Our waitress needed to be reminded over and over again for something we ordered or water. She was so absentminded it was frustrating. The food was really good, however it wasn't anything different from other sushi places.
The black cod with miso was fantastic though. That was the only thing that stood out for me.
Been here a few times and the sushi is always good and fresh. Just have to remember not to order the Teriyaki. The teriyaki chicken we ordered was bland and flavorless with just the teriyaki sauce slathered on.
Parking is convenient and they validate for the garage. Can park on the same level as the restaurant.
Ate here with 4 friends last week for a "reunion" dinner with friends from out of town. This place was recommended by a friend of one of the attendees and when I looked it up on yelp, seemed like it was good - BUT...
I wasn't impressed with anything that we ordered and we ordered A LOT. We had about 10 different sashimi orders, an order of tempura, an order of their king crab appetizer, the rainbow roll, the spider roll, and another dinner entree with mixed sashimi that came with sweet sticky rice on the bottom.
Out of everything, I wasn't necessarily satisfied with any of the dishes in particular, not even the spider roll that usually a failproof order. Or Tempura, can't get that wrong - but for some reason it just didn't hit the spot.
The soy sauce (we asked for low-sodium and the waitress said that all of the soy sauce they had was low-sodium) was much too salty. The best thing of the night, the young ginger that's served on the side of the sashimi.
The service was good. Maybe I'm not cut out for bland foods... though I normally love sushi...maybe I'm more programmed to like fusion rolls or more americanized sushi - but I don't think I'd be making a trip back to this place... plus - the indoor mall is pretty quiet.
