I think Domo has the best sushi in town. Even over Sushi Pure. The problem is the strip mall location. Once you go inside it's much better though, they've done a nice job with decor.  The sushi selection is HUGE and everything is quite delicious. Service is great too.  The only detractor is the strip mall location- but they make up for it in sushi freshness and selection.

You want atmosphere- Sushi Pure
You want the best raw fish & selection- Sushi Domo.

So after serving in the military and being stationed in Japan and Korea in Asia and New Jersey and Seattle state side, I can honestly say that Domo has great sushi after trying it in all those locations.  True you are not going to get the traditional vibe with Chinese decor and a Chinese and Japanese menu.  But the fish is fresh and firm.  Their rolls are huge and their portions of non-sushi food are big.

The Sushi doesn't fall apart like other restaurants in Eugene and the rice is really good quality and consistency.  My fiancé, who will not eat raw fish, loves the Teriyaki Chicken and various noodle dishes available.

Their Spider Roll is awesome with crisp tempura crab tightly wrapped with the right amount of vegetables.  Their Dragon roll is also great, but how can you go wrong with eel.   Their Nigiri is just right with the correct amount of wasabi to accent the flavor.  Between 2 of us our bill normally comes out to $50 and I come out completely stuffed.  For three we average $80 with people so full we have to walk around to let the food settle.

Sushi Domo offers the second-best sushi in Eugene - but like other Asian food in Eugene, it leaves a lot to be desired.

On a strictly quality-of-food basis, I'd give Sushi Domo three stars on the Eugene scale.  The fish is pretty fresh, though the portions associated with each piece of sushi are rather skimpy compared with better sushi places, and sushi is pretty basic stuff; for the most part, if the fish is okay, the sushi's okay.  Sashimi is another story; the fish isn't good enough to stand alone, and now that skimpy thing begins to irritate a bit more.  Still, the food is alright.

Otherwise, though, Sushi Domo fails miserably to reproduce the traditional sushi experience.  The atmosphere is sterile and American-feeling, the service ranges from indifferent to downright incompetent (they've gotten my order screwed up twice out of four or five visits), and in general the place does not feel Japanese in any way.

Sushi Domo isn't terrible and it's affordable as sushi goes - but you get what you pay for, and what you pay for isn't much.  Skip this place and head to Izumi, which is far better.

Ties with Izumi for my favorite sushi restaurant in Eugene.  Pros over Izumi: has a party room that you can reserve, consistently fresh and good food.  A well-kept secret.

I like this place. It's not as fancy as Izumi and I kindof like that if your in the mood for a quiet sushi dinner with the hubby or something. Their prices aren't too bad and the fish is fresh. They could stand to hire a couple more servers. They are always running around like it's the busiest night they've ever had, every night.

This place is good. I'll be back.

Up to recently, my favorite sushi in Eugene (crown since stolen by Pure).   Their "Volcano" roll is a delight and they do an excellent job with spicy tuna.  You'll be safe with the basic rolls too.  Domo's nigiri is fresh, though in smallish portions; same for the sashimi.  They're fine, but usually I skip these and just go straight for the exotic rolls.

I've been going here for three years and while the sushi has been consistently good, the service has consistently been poor.  I'd expect busy on a Friday but even if you show up on a Tuesday at 4:45, it'll somehow take you two hours to get through your dinner.   It's not that they're rude - they're not... but they're constantly understaffed on both the wait staff and kitchen sides.

Domo is not too expensive for the quality of sushi, but given the setting (it IS in a trashy strip mall) and the poor service, only rates as a fair value.  Then again, if you've got a hankering for sushi and you don't mind taking some time for a meal, give it a shot.

I'm really surprised this place has received such mixed reviews. For our first Eugene sushi venture, I scoured the reviews and decided on Shiki. When I called, I discovered their number had been disconnected. Perhaps someone can confirm they've closed? At any rate, warily, we decided to try Sushi Domo, since it wasn't too far away.

We were stoked. The sushi menu was really impressive. We ordered a a sashimi plate and several roles. Everything tasted fresh and clean. The house salad I had wasn't terribly impressive (mostly iceberg lettuce), but the ginger dressing was tasty.  The Dynamite Roll was especially indulgent--the entire roll was tempura fried.

I can't speak for the rest of the menu, which seems to be what has received the most criticism. That and the service, but our service was fine.  Don't be afraid to try this place :-)

Probably just fine by Eugene standards, but I think anyone used to doing sushi in SF, Seattle, or Portland will end up let down.  I did enjoy the Dynamite roll, but the top was the messy and kinda gross.  Seaweed salad was served with a layer of pickles (wtf?).  Edamame was oversteamed and mushy.  The salmon on the Philly roll was mushy and almost like salmon skin.

But I have to agree the biggest problem is the service.  It's not a big place, yet with a nearly fully house on a Friday night, the staff seemed overwhelmed.  Our group was 7, so after arriving we got led in to the side room only to find someone sweeping up who explained it wasn't ready yet.

Some things are just relative.  Like how my 6th birthday was great, but it didn't hold a candle to birthdays 8 and 9.

Sushi in Roseburg is simply not an option.  So when you're in Eugene for the day (after being stationed in Roseburg for 4 weeks) sushi there is pretty damn good.

The people were nice, we were seated quickly and the rolls were great.  Not the best I've ever had, but relatively speaking it was awesome.

Korean/Japanese restaurant near delta highway... I thought the sushi were pretty good, and the Korean soup tasted good also.

The people were nice, but service was very slow.... We asked for a spoon to eat noodle with, and they didn't bring us to spoon before we finished eating.... and the food came out pretty slow.....

Overall, the food tasted alright, especially, when you compare it to restaurant nearby.

After coming here a dozen times I can say this is my favorite sushi in Eugene.

The fish is fresh and they clearly don't spend the profits on decor.

The rolls are tight and and the service is allright. Weekend nights can get busy and I still haven't gotten used to driving to a north Eugene strip mall for good sushi, but I keep coming back until someone else does it better.

The only bad thing I can say about this place is that they are a little expensive.

With that out of the way, the sushi I had here was absolutely fantastic, the atmosphere was good, the staff was attentive and friendly, and "large beer" is an understatement... you get a massive Sapporo in a massive mug! I will definitely be returning for a special occasion. They cater well to vegetarians... I bet even vegans could find something delicious here. I definitely reccomend making the trip out to Delta Oaks for this place!

I really like sushi and had heard about this place and took a friend who had finished her master's degree as a treat for her.
The wait was really long. I made sure to only order things with out avocado as I can't eat it and made sure to double check with the waitress.
After a really long wait all my rolls came with avocado which I can not eat.
The manger came over and only offered to make one of the many rolls over even after the waitress told her that I have especially ordered rolls with out it!
Not only slow service, but bad customer service.
I will not go back there again.
I can get better sushi done right at another place, and will!

I'm giving this place 5 stars because the sushi menu is really quite impressive & you would never think to go there otherwise--it's out in weird Goodpastureland in some dilapidated strip mall.

I didn't try the main dishes because I was so overwhelmed with having to choose which rolls I wanted.  Most typical sushi places will have a bunch of rolls consisting of some combination of the following: avacado, cream cheese, cucumber, tempura shrimp, crab salad, eel, tuna, yellow tail, salmon roe.  And that's it.  Domo is a totally different story.  They put things in their rolls that I've never seen (nor would have ever thought would be found in sushi): tempura coconut, asparagus, broccoli, cilantro, etc.  It's nuts.  And they pay more attention to sauce accompaniment than any other sushi place I've been to.

Sushi Domo surprised the hell out of me so much that it knocked Mio Sushi (Portland) out of my illustrious "2nd favorite restaurant to get me some catipillar roll" ranking (Takahashi on 103rd & Holgate is still in 1st).

In conclusion: go.

Laura H. dragged me to this place last weekend.

Wow.  I am not usually a sushi guy, but this stuff was delicious.  I don't know how "authentic" this is--probably not very.  Being brutish Americans, we passed on the nigiri and the sashimi and ordered a selection of rolls instead.

Is this "innovative" sushi?  I think so--the Crazy Roll contained shrimp, crab, avocado, asparagus, and coconut, and was served with three different sauces: ponzu, unagi sauce, and another that I don't quite recall.

The "Volcano" was a mountain of California rolls covered in a "sauce" (lava?) of tuna sashimi, smelt roe, and bits of tempura batter.

Also had was a roll containing saba, and a vegetarian roll that concealed a very hot pepper.

Prices were incredibly affordable and the atmosphere was cozy.

I'd definitely go back.

Best sushi I've ever had.  Not to say that I'm a real experienced sushi eater, but this far surpassed anything I'd had before.  We just ordered a bunch of random rolls off of the menu and couldn't have been more pleased with the results.

The atmosphere is kind of weird.  Instead of a fish tank there's big screen TV that plays a fish tank DVD on loop.  We were even lucky enough to witness two testosterone driven males try to impress their dates by yelling insults at each other from across the restaurant.  It went on so long I was surprised they didn't get up and start beating on their chests King Kong style in an attempt showcase their dominance.

Go eat amazing sushi and the locals may even provide you with some entertainment for the evening.

Compared to all the other sushi places I've been one, this one offers disappointingly meager portions of fish in proportion to price. Their bentos aren't much to call home about, either.  Agree w/John H. that it might be fine by Eugene standards but if you've ever had sushi in more metro or urban areas, this place won't live up to your basest standards.

I absolutely loved the yummy food, but the service from the less than friendly/attentive staff mostly. The owner is behind the sushi bar & tries his best to make the customers feel welcome and give them what they want and need, but the staff just seems blah. Great food!

First off, the sushi was good. A great selection, unique rolls, and everything was fresh and tasty when we got it. But that was all overshadowed by potentially the worst service I've ever had in many years.

Our waitress was tragic - but not just to us, to the entire place (and seemed to be running the place too!). We were seated by a host right away, and he took our drink orders. That was fine, but then she showed up and took our orders again - we noted that the other guy took a drink order (we didn't want two orders to show up), and she said rather abruptly "I'M bring your drinks though!" and slapped her chest. Uh.. ok. So she only kind of re-took the order (we were confused) and then brought the wrong stuff so we needed to re-order.

Then began the long wait for our meal. We received a sunomono salad in the meantime, which I hated for the most part (seaweed and radish and some red vegetable in what's typically a cucumber-only salad). Our waitress literally sprinted between tables and the kitchen - this very loud, distracting... gallop almost. We watched her screw up every single table in the place. The people next to us received one out of two lunches. The guy had his lunch literally 10 minutes before his wife. She showed up to ask them "Can I get you anything else?" and the husband had to note "My wife's lunch perhaps". She screwed up their sake, and the husband had to teach her how to heat it up as she was apparently "way" overheating it and cooking all the alcohol out of it. And the waitress was really condescending and rude to the guy, even though he was very polite about it. Also of note, it was heated in a microwave situated directly behind my head.

A table of four behind us received one meal way ahead of the rest of the table, so one poor guy sat with his food for 5-10 minutes before the rest of the table. A random bento box was carried to every single table before it found a home. A family of four was asked whether they had everything delivered to them. I couldn't hear what happened at the other two tables.

And as for our table, we missed a roll entirely, and yet were billed for it. So they had to readjust our bill. We weren't offered the roll - it was just "Oh. Well, we won't charge you for that, ok?"  ... obviously.  So we left hungry, as the roll they missed was one of the big ones. Not to mention we were charged incorrectly for the drinks (due to their screw-up at the beginning), but we didn't realize until after we left and it really wasn't worth trying to go back.

And to top it all off, there was no TP in the restrooms, at all.  What I found very odd also was the fact there were two other people working in the front - and the other two didn't really seem to do much apart from seat people and bring them a bill. It all seemed like a minor tragedy, and we left over $40 poorer and not even full (we're not even big eaters).

Food would be a 4/5, but service/experience definitely a 0/5. I guess that'd mean a 2/5 overall.

I have eaten sushi in SF, Portland, Seattle, DC... and I think this is great sushi. My grandmother from Japan has been making sushi for me since I was a child and this food reminds me of what she would cook up for me when I would go visit her. I was disappointed when the restaurant Shiki closed, but this place is my new spot for good Japanese food. You might not expect to find great sushi in a random strip mall like this, but I highly recommend it.
