Supermarket Sushi at New York City prices!
OMG! This the the ABSOLUTE worst sushi I have ever had! I wish I could give them NO STARS! We ended up throwing out $70.00 worth of food last night!
My wife and I have sushi at least once a week (takeout) and are always willing to try a new place to see if we can find a new favorite. This place was recommended by some of the people where my wife gets her nails done AND it had great reviews - rating a 4 1/2 stars after 7 reviews, so we figured it should be good . . . alas were we ever wrong!
1. The fish we were served was not sushi grade fish - yes folks there is a difference.
2. As if the quality were not bad enough, the freshness was suspect - my salmon and the octopus I had were fishy - I have NEVER in my life had an issue with salmon nor octopus - this is s first
3. Last but not least the prices were WAY OUT OF LINE - especially when considering #'s 1 and 2 above.
Save your money - go to Shoprite and get their sushi - it is about the same quality for probably around 1/3 of the cost - or better yet go to Wegman's just a few miles north on Rt 9 - the quality there is WAY better and still around 1/3 the cost.
NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want REAL SUSHI go to Konbu in Manalapan; Sawa in Eatontown; or Wasabi in East Brunswick -

The talented and absolutely adorable Chef Kazu and his wife run this place. As far as I'm concerned, they run the entire sushi business in Monmouth county. They're not open on Tuesdays because they can't get fresh fish on that day... a very good sign that this place absolutely rules.
The fish is unbelievably fresh and of very high quality and the rolls, though not crazy or particularly creative, are executed flawlessly. Kazu has turned me into a sushi believer!
This place is a must try if you're in the mood for sushi in Monmouth County... it's even worth a drive.
*Disclaimer*: This sushi is SO good that you may not be able to enjoy it elsewhere. -

Best sushi in NJ. Definitely not "American style", so there aren't as many fancy wraps, sauces, etc. really authentic Japanese sushi. Very highly recommend the Chilean Sea Bass, Kazu style. It's insanely good and you may want to order one for yourself...the only problem is you need to leave yourself room for the fantastic sushi. Very fresh, no fishy smell or taste at all. The yellow tail and salmon melt in your mouth. I've tried the other fish/shellfish and they are equally as good. Be warned it is a bit pricy but well worth it.

Kazu is the freshest, most authentic sushi BYO in the Freehold-Howell and surrounding areas. Kazu and his wife run the show, as she greets each table with the customer service that most restaurants lack today. She will also help you with chopsticks if you are struggling! The decor is outdated, but goes to show they don't need impressive ambiance because the food is THAT good. The place is small, and always full of happy customers.
The food: The spicy clam miso soup, or spicy seafood soup are incredible. The chilean sea bass is OUTSTANDING. All of the sushi, sashimi included, is delightful. Don't be shy to ask for recommendations. Anyone who truly loves sushi will love this place. They also have hot entrees for people who prefer cooked food :) -

I have to admit, I might be biased, I know the owner. However, if you're looking for a great japanese sushi and food experience, this is your place.
It's very small, however, it has a very japanese feel to it. The people are very friendly, and I found that even the customers are friendly to each other. There are many "regulars" here, and everyone seems to know the staff.
Kazu himself is a very experience sushi chef, and I'm of great belief that you could trust him with your sushi order and he will give you the best experience ever.
The food (not sushi) is also very good. They have an especially good katsu-don which I recommend. Although for maximum experience, I suggest the sushi.
They don't serve alcohol, however you can purchase alcohol at the liquor store next door (convenient) and bring it with you.
They close 1 month out of the year to return to Japan. Customers are waiting every time they do, and come back for more. Don't miss this great experience! -

so i went back to this resturant to give it another try and the sushi is still miniscule and too tiny--- Has anyone else EVER seen sushi or sashimi this small?!?!?!?
i think people just agree that this place is good cause they don't want to go against what people have said in the past -- but the sushi is not impressive in flavor, size, or price!!!
try another resturant!!1 Previous Review: Show all »
