This is the best sushi bar in all of Baltimore if not the state. I only heard about it through a friend and tried it on my whim but since that time a few months ago, I have been there almost every week. I have tried many sushi joints in the past having relatives in Japan as well as living in Southern California but I love this place the most. The food is absolutely top quality and amazing and the chef is so friendly and sociable. I love sitting directly at the bar and talking to the chef about his 10+ years time training in Japan, Korea, Vietnam and the U.S. (He is also one of the few qualified chefs in the world who can properly prepare puffer fish, although its not on the menu :)  The best thing is the chef makes everyone's food himself such that they are all works of art and of the best quality. Even the plates and decor are matched in color and style.  The special rolls are to die for and they come in both hot and cold varieties. This is the only place where I trust that the chef goes out to the fish market everyday to personally pick out the choice meats of the day. So don't be surprised if your favorite fish isn't available that day. If the quality isn't there, he won't use it. I hope this place catches on in Baltimore. It would be a shame if the one true non-commercialized sushi bar in the area doesn't get noticed.

Very unassuming with tinted glass windows and stairs that lead you down to the underground location.  I've passed by the restaurant many times, but by the outside appearance, I was never drawn in  -- at least not until I read some of the Yelp reviews.  I decided to give it a try since it would at least be average based on the reviews.  I usually sit at the sushi bar to check out the catch of the day, and I was pleasantly surprised to find only fresh fish.  He said that he goes to the market at 5:30 every morning to purchase the fresh catch of the day.  -- wow, that is dedication.  I recommend their Geisha rolls -- the sushi chef said that they are unique only to his restaurant.  I usually prefer nigri, but I took his recommendation and tried the Green Tuna (spicy and crunchy) -- and was I glad that I did.  Dozo!

This is hands down my favorite sushi bar in the Baltimore area.  I had come across it several times walking up and down Charles street, but never had the opportunity to try it.  The first time I walked in to the establishment, my friend and I were a bit wary as it was peak dinner hour and there were no customers in the restaurant!  We took a chance and had our pick of any table.

As we were only two people, we decided to order their smallest sushi boat, the "Love Platter A."  When we asked what came in the platter, we were asked, "Well...what would you like?"  Since we weren't really sure what we wanted specifically, we just asked the chef to surprise us.

The sashimi was so fresh it melted in our mouths.  The Love Platter A was more than enough for two people, and we left with full stomachs.

I've been to Geisha a few more times since then and I've never had a bad experience.  The service is exceptional, and the atmosphere is pleasant.  The chef sometimes will offer a complimentary sample of one of his specialty rolls.  It's BYOB, so feel free to bring your alcoholic beverage of choice; the servers are more than happy to provide a cork screw and glasses if necessary.  It has never been crowded--at most there would be one other party their in addition to mine.  I think this is a gem waiting to be discovered.

So...I've decided to renege my vote that this place is good for groups.  I wouldn't recommend it if your party is greater than maybe 6 people.  The problem is they currently only have one sushi chef.  On weekends I do see a sort of sous chef, but it doesn't seem like he does much.  So with my party of 11 people, it took almost two hours for everyone to get their food because there was only the one sushi chef cranking out everyone's orders.  Still good sushi though :D  But not really worth the two hour wait.

Except for it's not-so-original name, there is nothing to criticize about this relatively new Japanese sushi bar.  The chef is the real deal, training in Japan and even qualified to prepare fugu (don't expect to eat puffer fish in the restaurant, though).  The sushi is not only delicious but also everything is prepared beautifully.  Great place for a casual group but the setting is private enough for a romantic dinner too.  Another important thing is that even though I went there for dinner, the fish tasted fresh and I was told that the chef actually personally goes to fish markets daily to hand pick the catch of the day.  The quality here rivals many of the well-known restaurants in California and Japan.  I predict that in a few months, this will be a favorite dinner destination in Baltimore.
