Santa Clara, CA
Considering that this was my first experience with Mongolian BBQ I have to say I was impressed. I read up on Yelp that it takes a couple bowls to give a good portion once the food cooks down so I ended up making a HUGE bowl. Worth every saucy bite!
I got a bowl of veggies with onions, cilantro, and sauces and another bowl with mixed veggies, tofu, and garlic. I had them mix the bowls on the grill after they cleaned it off (I'm veggie) and it turned out great! The pineapple and ginger sauce really was a treat as it balanced out the spiciness of the bowl. I also got a the egg rolls which were okay but the sesame rolls were amazing! They were like little Mongolian doughnuts and were amazing with the ice cream.
The service was really amazing. The bowls were cleared almost as soon as we finished and the water was filled again and again. Everyone who worked there was smiling, courteous, and prompt. I'm definitely coming back here sometime! -

Mmmmmm, definitely something you have to experience. Wide assortment of meats and seafood that you can choose from, pairing them with noodles and various fresh veggies which they then cook in front of you. All you can eat, but really one bowl will do it. I will definitely stop in again.
Lolz at the cheesy decor, the staff is super nice too. -

*more like a 3.5 but I rounded up because 3 stars looked too sad*
We found this place on yelp & decided it should be the place to host my first time ever having mongolian bbq.
It's located in a small, sorta run down shopping center with limited parking..but it's right off a main road so that's a plus. The rate per person was pretty cheap and they had a lot of veggie options which was good because most times Im not a meat-eater.
It was cool to make your bowl and carefully make your own sauces for it to be cooked with. I was a natural! I enjoyed watching the cook heat up the food on their giant wok-like-stove.
There was plenty of seating so we enjoyed a nice meal together, bf had 2 and I just had my one bowl but def. took advantage of their soft-serve ice cream machine :) How awesome is that?
I do wish it was a little bit newer/cleaner on the inside (moreso where the food/cooking takes place, because the seating was fine).
The staff working was super sweet & helpful, and all the folks in their with us that night really seemed to be enjoying themselves. -

I entered this place and had no clue on what to do because well it was my first time! But i jumped right into it, made my bowl full of shrimp, beef, and lamb. YUM YUM YUM. veggies and noodles piling on top, lots of sauce too! & Loads of Garlic! .. mmmmm, garlic! Basically you cannot complain because you are making it yourself! Theres fried food on the side, but you should not be eating that since theres so much combos you can make with just the few selected items! At the end of the meal, there is ice cream for your liking! if not theres pinkberry down the block somewhere! its AYCE for $14 i believe!

My go-to Mongolian BBQ!
My dad took me here when I was a kid and it always had a place in my heart. I came back with my husband and have been here a few times since.
The price is fair, they have lots of different types of meats, veggies, and sauces. The longest I have had to wait for my food was maybe 5 minutes or less. They also have some basic Asian food (egg rolls, rice... etc) And for dessert... soft served ice cream!!!
Parking is in front however it only goes one way and can sometimes get busy. -
Review from Peggy S.
I don't really love meat.
But this one day during yoga, all I could think about was meat, meat, meat. My arms were shaking when I did that warrior II and I could barely hold the dancer pose. I was weak. I needed food.
What better place than Su's, then? All you can eat meat galore! And if the flavor sucked, you only have yourself to blame...
They had been, chicken, pork, lamb, and shrimp as the protein. And as for veggies, they have cabbage, broccoli, bean sprouts, carrots, zucchini, celery, mushroom, onion, and miscellaneous garnishes. Oh, and don't forget to add pineapples after you've prepared your sauce - the sweetness of the pineapple chucks can really bring out the nice flavor of that lamb/beef :)
You can mix in rice or noodles with your BBQ, or you can get fried rice and chow mein on the side, at the hot food section, along with egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken, and other sesame pastries.
It's been a while since I ate till my tummy hurts from being overstuffed, but it happened... I couldn't move. For three days I couldn't move.
The price definitely has gone up since the last time I visited (around 2004), but when you are craving a large amount of meat but don't want to spend the price of going to a expensive Brazilian BBQ place, this little place will satisfy your cravings, and your soft serve ice cream cravings :) -

3.5 stars. AYCE Mongolian BBQ, dinner is 13.99. You get to pick beef, chicken, pork, lamb and shrimp for meat. Noodles, bean sprouts, onions, zucchini, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, celery, mushroom, cilantro, jalapeno, fried tofu and a couple other things. Word of advice - grab two bowls, one to put meat in and the other to smash down with and add noodles on top. The second bowl add the additional veggies in. Sauces of choice - each bowl add a spoon of vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, oyster sauce, and chili sauce if you like it spicy. This sauce mix was perfect but if you don't like it too saucy maybe dial it down. Bring it over to the cooks and they will cook the food for you on a flat heated surface. That thing is pretty cool! They also have other cooked items but eh I didn't go for it, with the create your own Mongolian bbq what is the point? Stick to that and grab a soft serve on the way out. I hear it's decent but I was too full to try it when I went. I would go back here for some Mongolian bbq!

Great place for some Mongolian BBQ. One thing about it is that you need to know how to mix your flavors... If you don't then your outa luck because my first plate was really plain and was missing flavors.

So overall, in my opinion, there are two Mongolian BBQ places in Santa Clara that I consider to be big rivals, and that are both good and bad in their own ways. Those places are El Camino Mongolian BBQ and Su's Mongolian BBQ. After dining at both establishments a number of times, I have come up with several lists comparing the two. They are as follows:
Why Su's is better:
* Larger and more seating
* Line moves faster than El Camino's line
* Offer shrimp aside from all the other meats that El Camino already offers
* Offer SOFT SERVE
* Offer alcohol (beer and wine only) aside from other nonalcoholic beverages
* Noodles are of a higher quality, in my opinion, than El Camino's noodles
* They don't water down their food as much as El Camino's
* Overall, in my opinion, their food is more flavorful
* They put the final concoction in a bowl, instead of a plate (which is what El Camino does), and this is better, in my opinion.
Why Su's is worse:
* No ambiance
* One or two employees not as friendly as at El Camino's
* Only offer drinks (except for water) from a fridge in bottle/can form so there are no free refills
* Not as clean as El Camino and apparently the bathrooms have especially bad plumbing (which is ironic since according to the Santa Clara County health department website, in recent months El Camino had more health violations than Su's)
* Does not have much of a lobby/waiting area (although since the place is big with a lot of seating, most people don't end up having to wait to be seated)
* Longer drive than El Camino (this is subjective since everyone lives in different places)
* More expensive than El Camino (barely though)
* Smaller parking lot than El Camino's (although the shopping center is located right next to the beginning of a residential area so if there's no parking you can easily park in the residential area whereas El Camino is not located next to or near a residential area so if parking runs out over there, then you often have to find parking in the street or across the street which can be hard and inconvenient)
* Don't offer as many side dishes as El Camino
Overall, for me it would be a tie between the two places. They are better and worse than each other in different ways. They both get 4 stars from me. I have a written a very similar review for El Camino Mongolian BBQ. Here's a link to their profile where you can read it: http://www.yelp.com/bi...Listed in: Salty Tooth, Spicy Tooth

I visit Su's usually with clients. (Engineers especially love this place)
When parking is the biggest complaint, you know the place is good. Su's is no exception, their prices are fair, a wide array of fixin's to customize your dish. They get busy at lunch but I've never experienced longer than a 10 minute wait for my food. -

I would give Su's 0 stars if it was possible.
Honestly, the food is decent and the price just above average compared to similar places. When I checked in about a week ago (last week of November), I went for lunch during a slow Tuesday at 12 noon. I opted to purchase a take-out bbq for $15, which is nearly twice the price of their sit-in rate.
The proprietor allowed me to take one bowl for meat and one bowl for vegetables. I carefully stacked beef and shrimp in one bowl, and broccoli and onions in the other bowl. After the cook prepared my food (always tip the cook), the take out box was pretty packed.
At the cash register, the proprietor forcefully flipped open the box with an annoyed expression because he expected me to take much less food. Two shrimp came out force, and one of the shrimp stained my sweater. There was no apology for this disrespect, and if I had a more violent nature I would have been tempted to fling the rest of the food in his face. The proprietor accused me of taking too much food and told me that in the future, I would be only allowed one bowl. "Fine", I thought, "If he thinks I stack the bowl I guess I can live with just one bowl".
I put my hand on the take out box to keep it shut and reached for my wallet to pay. This guy flipped open the take out box again, and some broccoli fell on the floor. I'm a pretty non-confrontational guy so I just ignored it. I paid, left, ate my food, and here I am writing a nasty review.
TLDR:
Food's good, but the owner is an asshole. -

A bowl of noodles, meat (and/or shrimp), veggies, and sauce - oh you know, just about everything I LOVE in one!
I'm an indecisive eater. When I walk into a restaurant, it takes me forever to make up my mind usually because I want a little bit of everything. Yeah, I'm kind of annoying and frustrating that way. So the fact that I can put however amount of noodles I want with whatever combination of veggie, meat, and sauce I desire makes life easier.
Personal recommendation: add the shrimp, pineapple, and bean sprouts. Those were my favorite components of my Mongolian BBQ creation. Why? Idk, it is what it is.
Also, as I'm a fairly curious eater, I pretty much used all the sauces they had (about a scoop each), and I ended up with something decently yummy. If you love sweet spiciness like me, add a little less than two scoops of chili sauce. But take note, I'm a sauce kind of gal, meaning I tend to combine my food with any kind of sauce there is, so I go crazy when there are more than 5 options available for my use.
For $12 bucks, I'd say it's kinda overpriced, not gonna lie. But I guess it's cus of the little buffet they have for egg rolls and such....(also including fried wontons, so nvm, maybe it is worth it)!
Warning:
Weekday lunch hour = long line, beat the rush.
Small parking lot
Props
How they scoop your noodle creation back into the bowl after it's cooked....SKILLS.

I'm generally not a huge fan of restaurants where you have to do any work. In fact, I would probably prefer it if I didn't even have to lift my utensils to eat. That explains why I generally don't like going to hot pot places or any place where you have to cook your own food. With that said, this place isn't bad. You grab a bowl and fill it up with whatever meats and veggies you want, choose some sauce, and then give it to the guy to cook.
Unless you know what you're doing here, it's essentially trial and error as the first time I put way too much sauce. When the cook poured my bowl onto the large griddle, sauce went everywhere. This place was also pretty crowded but we got seated pretty quickly. Also bonus points for having soft serve! More places should have that. -
Review from Marcus J.
I've driven by this place many a time and always wanted to try it out because I've only heard good things about mongolian bbq and it's a buffet.
The place is really easy to miss because it's true hole in the wall, but fortunately I have built in radar for such a thing. owww
It's pretty small and basic inside. Once you walk in, one side has all the food and kitchen area, the other side is tables and chairs while you consume your food.
The buffet presentation is very basic, you grab a bowl (or two) and start with meat choosing from beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, and/or lamb, then noodles, then a while bunch of veggies which were actually pretty fresh. The meat was frozen but I didn't mind.
Once you had your meat and veggies, you then got to pick what sauces and oils you wanted to add such as garlic, hot chili, and sweet and sour. So if you didn't like the flavor of your food, it's your own fault. Take it up to the counter where the cooks cook it up for you fast.
Servers came by to take dirty bowls away and pitchers of water were kept up front for self serve refills. They also had a hot buffet with various things like rice and spring rolls.
To make things even better, soft serve ice cream cones were available. It was pretty bomb. I will be coming back because I'm on a quest to become morbidly obese by the time I'm 30.Listed in: Get My Fat Boy On

Great place for getting your veg-on, not just for meat. Simple, no-nonsense, fresh food in a no-nonsense environment full of people doing and eating what they love.
And their service -- amazing. The "chef" noticed our bowls were vegetarian, and he stopped the line -- 20 people -- in order to fully clean the massive wok and prepare our meal.
Amazing, and just part of their day's work. -

Extremely basic, but pretty clean for a less "Americanized" Mongolian BBQ. It's all-you-can-eat with no option for single plate prices. The hot buffet is nice to nom some egg roll while you mash that meat in your bowl.
My go-to Mongolian meal includes: full bowl of chicken, 1 scoop of noodles, broccoli, and onions. The sauce makes or breaks your meal, so choose carefully. I stick with 1 scoop of soy, 1 scoop of sweet, 6 scoops of garlic, 1 scoop of the hot sauce, and 4 scoops of pineapples w/juice. The garlic sauce is deliciously strong.. probably not the best choice if you plan on a romantic post-dinner evening.
The "Mongolians" use that authentic Mongolian wooden stick to cook your food on the usually-clean grill. Don't forget the soft-serve ice cream!
There is no soda fountain, but there are plenty of sodas & some beers to choose from. The staff is friendly and quick to refill waters.
Just a note - A sketchy sign in the restroom recommends throwing the toilet paper in the trash as the old pipes get clogged... I don't care for that. -

Went for the first time! I usually go to a higher end place in Mt View! But, I liked many thing's about Su's! The staff was friendly! Lamb and Shrimp options, more sauce/oil combos. I didn't care for the squishy tofu and the noodles were just ok. We got there around 5p and beat the crowd. Love the all you can eat! Recommend!

They recommend 1 or 2 scoops of sauce per bowl. I ramp that sh*t up to 7! Extreme curry explosion!!!

Best mongolian BBQ in the bay area. I like the way there is a recipe to making the sauce posted. You can tweak it to your own taste of course by adding more of one ingredient or the other.
Don't forget to get a soft serve ice cream cone as you leave. -
Review from Birdy H.
The place: is small and decently cleaned.
The Hot Buffet: 5 items to choose from (wow really!)
The Mongolian BBQ buffet: You choose your own meat, veggies and sauces.. they cook it for you.
The bowls are so small you almost have to use a minimum of 2 bowls to put your meats, noodles, and veggies in it. If you're like me and like lots of veggies you will most likely use 3 bowls.
The Service: Horrible. Asians with attitude. Can't stand places like this. I'm Asian myself but I have gone to way too many Asian restaurants where they carry their Asian personalities into their businesses with them! Leave them at home!
The Taste: Nothing special.
I came in here tonight to get some to go. I used 3 bowls mostly with just veggies and the cook had a cow! He was like "3 bowls!".. I looked at him and said, "YES! mostly veggies!" with a smile. He called the owner over and they started speaking in Chinese (I have no clue what they were saying)
After the guy was done cooking my noodles, he put in a to go box for me (sloppily) and I walked it over to pay for it. The owner charged me $18 bucks! I just shook my head and walked out. This was suppose to be an "All you can eat" place.
Never going back. -

I've been going to this place for years and I've not once rated them until now. If you want authentic Mongolian BBQ, this is the place. It's a buffet that include ready hot food and the best soft serve ice cream I have EVER had. Normally I'm lactose intolerant but I always make an exception at Su's. It's a family run restaurant and just about all the college kids (across the street) know of this place. Good price for the food you get. Don't complain if the food doesn't taste good because you're the one who add the ingredients and seasoning, they just cook it. Quick with refills and removing emply plates from your table. Definite a must for lunch/dinner by yourself or with friends.

Su's Mongolian owned my stomach. I kept waking up to the terrible stench of my own farts throughout the night. It was the smell of my own body digesting Su's. But I don't regret the meal at all!
It looks pretty shady from the outside, but it's not bad when you get in. $15 for all-you-can-eat mongolian bbq, it's really made for the hungry and the fatties in this area. I wish they had more vegetable selections but I was pretty impressed with variety of sauce selections. Frozen meats (lamb, chicken, pork and beef) were not too bad and cooking was done masterfully.
their side selection is just pure nasty (egg rolls, chicken, soup and whatever nameless items you see). And this one kinda confuses me. I hate waiting 10-15 min for water when I sit down...this place actually puts ice water on most of the tables throughout the day....So I guess I should be super excited...then I come to my senses...wait a min...this water may have been on the table for hours....HMMMMMmmmm. HMMMMmmmm. -

If you could get past the unassuming exterior - and no frills interior - then you'll be as happy as Genghis Khan himself at this Mongolian BBQ joint. I doubt that the historical figure Genghis Khan was ever known for being happy. However, I'm sure he would have been sporting a smile from ear-to-ear after getting his fill at Su's.
*Here's a tip: Grab two bowls. Fill the first one with all your meat, while you use the second bowl to 1) press the meat down to make room for MORE meat and 2) fill with all the other non-meat goodies and sauces. Smile and Repeat. -
Review from Mike M.
Checked out Su's last weekend and found the perfect hole in the whole restaurant with pretty good food. Now the key is to set low expectations going into this place.
The restaurant isn't anything special from the outside, but the food is a different story. Its all you can eat, with 4 different types of meat (beef, chicken, lamb, and shrimp, with raw vegetables, and tons of flavorings/sauces. The price wasn't bad either at $15 per person. Occasionally, you will have a line for the main chef, but moves really fast, each dish takes a minute to cook. The staff also does a good job of taking old plates and re-filling the water. Only draw back is that they sell their sodas by the can versus having a fountain/soda machine.
Overall, I enjoyed it and would definitely come back again -

This has got to be my favorite restaurant !! We have been going there for several years, the staff is always friendly and the service is great. We always go for the make your own bowls of food. The soft serve ice cream adds to enjoyment of the meal,
It's a little pricey, especially if you can only eat one bowl, but well worth the money !!!! -

Nice little hole in the wall restaurant. There are more sauce options than at the mongolian bbq places at the mall so your noodles come out way more flavorful. There are the usual meat options pork, chicken, beef and even shrimp! (no lamb during lunch) There are not many veggie options. I wish they offered mushrooms & baby corn.
Hot food on the side is pass. There are better places on El Camino if that the type of food you're going for. (fried, laying out for a while...blah)
The soft serve frozen ice cream was really good! I added broken up fried dough pieces of into mine, lol, extra yum!
I could barely finish my first bowl but my boyfriend went for seconds of the stir fry. For me, it wasn't worth the $14. Maybe if you don't eat for a few days and then come stuff yourself silly but I could think of many other places I'd rather spend that money at. -
Review from Johnny N.
Even returning to Su's after, what, maybe four or five years, I am still quite impressed about the consistency.
Given, there is really nothing that you need to do as chef other than prepare the food and cook it once your customers select the ingredients. However, as a buffet, that's what makes it perfect . Piles of chicken, beef, or lamb at your disposal along with a bunch of veggies and sauces, it's like the Sweet Tomatoes of meats. The sides such as won tons are just as great. Come here for the quantity. Come here after an intense workout at the gym. I always leave satisfied.
My only complaint is the rising price tag after each visit, but that is to be expected as the years go by. I'm just glad this place is still here. -

-Service. The family that runs the place is extremely nice and helpful.
Cons
-The prices have increased I believe 2 times since the first time I've come here.
-If they are busy then you will have to park on the street. -

So I went here at like 11:40 am on July 30, 2011.
Although small and isolated, Su's Mongolian BBQ is a great place. Starting at $13.99 for every person during lunch and dinner ONLY ON SATURDAYS, it is an all you can eat.
There are a variety of food choices like beef, pork, chicken, lamb, shrimp, bean sprouts, broccoli, onions, green onions, celery, shredded carrots, mushrooms, cilantro, tofu, and jalopenos.
There are side dishes in case you wanted some. There is like the traditional rice and chow mein. In the back, there is a variety of cooking sauces. There is an ice cream machine if you wanted ice cream.
They take Visa, Discover, MasterCard, or American Express.
I was full halfway on my bowl of items and I asked if they could let me bring it home. I guess like any buffet, they don't. -

My friend Kira invited me to this place because I love this Mongolian Restaurant in Chico, California.
When you first get there, its a hole in the wall that looks exactly like a hole in the wall. It gained instant credibility when I saw how crowded this place was at lunch time. Not just full of young males who will eat anything, but full of business execs, students, etc.
Good:
All you can eat stir fry
All you can eat egg rolls
Plenty of different condiments and sauces to customize you meal
Constant refills of water
BEST OF ALL: Free Soft serve Ice Cream at the end!
Only thing I would change....more variety of veggies for stir fry -

Love this place. Family owned and operated which I would rather spend money at over a chain any day. Technically an all you can eat place, which I'm not into, but doesn't have feel of gluttony.
The owners are awesome! They greet my family as if we were part of theirs. They treat my son like a prince and are just all round super nice.
As for the food, its a typical Mongolian BBQ set up. Pick up a bowl or two, load it with meats, noodles, veggies, and sauces. Love that they have basic sauces (i.e. soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, garlic, oyster sauce, etc...) and not pre-mixed combinations that you have to guess about. They also have a prepared food bar with awesome spring rolls and a few mystery dishes that are all worth a try.
Bottom line: good food, worth the money. CUSTOMER4LYF! -
Review from Benny L.
San Jose, CA
I have been going to this place with family and friends for over a decade. But let me make something clear. I have not been to other Mongolian places. So this is NOT a comparison among Mongo restaurants.
That said, the place has progressively gotten worse in some respects and better in some respects over the years.
Better -- more ingredients (never used to be shrimp, noodles, cilantro, etc. despite my Dad's pleas for many years), service (slightly).
Worse -- price. Put simply, this place isn't worth the price, in a general and overall sense. I think I paid $14 today for the lunch buffet, which wasn't worth it.
As for the "side bar" where the egg rolls, rice, chow mein, etc. were, some of them taste pretty good. But if it's friend, be warned that the oil they use to fry appears to have been used approximately 56 times. Disgusting. You're eating remnants of God knows how many other items of food, over God knows how many days.
Also, the water service is kinda gross. I walked in during lunchtime today. Only three other people there. I look around, and every single table in the joint has ice water filled mugs already sitting there. What? Who wants to drink a mug of ice water that may have been sitting there for well over an hour?
Anyway, I don't want to sound too negative. I've been going there for years (although hardly at all for the last 5 or so years) for a reason. Mongo BBQ is awesome. But you DO need to refine your technique, because you can end up with a dud or stud depending on how you engineer your bowl(s). -

I went here on a lunch break with a couple co-workers. Convenient location on El Camino about 5 minutes from SCU. From the looks of this place from outside, it seems like it would be a mediocre joint. But don't let that fool you. Su's Mongolian has a lot of choices of meats, vegetables, and sauces to make a delicious customizable dish.
Meats offered ranged from slices of chicken, beef, lamb, pork, and individual prawns. All the slices of meat are barely frozen and should be packed at the bottom of the bowl to get the most meat. There are a variety vegetables available, basically anything you'd expect to find at an Asian restaurant. Sauces range from spicy chili, oyster, garlic, etc.
One thing I would say is that it'd be nice to get an extra grill so that it doesn't take 3 minutes to grill each customers noodles and condiments. $13.99 may seem like a lot for all this at first, but with one bowl full of noodles and another full of condiments, you're bound to be stuffed. Spring rolls included makes me feel better about the price.
Overall, for tasty Mongolian BBQ in Santa Clara, it's the place to go! -

If you like small places that offer good food and a very reasonable price, then Su's is one of the hidden treasure of the City of Santa Clara. I have been going to Su's for well over ten years now and each and every time I do go, either for lunch or dinner, I am offered with a great value.
The food is fresh, and with the all you can eat you can have as much food as you can stuff in your stomach. Remember to only take what you can eat.
If you want to impress some coworkers or just have a good lunch with friend or family, I would highly recommend Su's.
Just a note if you come for lunch on a Friday, make sure you get there early or you will have to wait for a table.Listed in: Restaurants
