I could go crazy in Sur la Table. I mean, not crazy as in I might go mental and start ripping my clothes off and belt out show tunes at the top of my lungs, but crazy as in I could do some major credit card damage.
You know all those little gadgets all the cooks on the Food Network use that you had never heard of before? They sell them all here! Until about a year ago I never knew what parchment paper was for, let alone where you would buy it, but Sur la Table has it. Need a microplane? They have at least five different grades depending on whether you want to grate lemon zest, Parmesan cheese, or fresh nutmeg.
It can be a little overwhelming, but not to worry, the sales people don't mind if you take your time and wander around looking at everything. They won't bother you at all. They offer cooking classes, too. Sur la Table would be a great place to find the perfect gift for the cook in your life. (Hint, hint!)

This is definitely the worst sur la table I have ever been to in my long history of going to high-end cooking stores. This store epitomizes why I happily chose to work at Williams-Sonoma instead and am now bitter every time I go to a Sur La Table and do not get the customer service that W-S is renowned for. I came here with my mom last Monday with a specific item in mind, ready to gladly give SLT our money. Apparently, the store really doesn't need paying customers, they would rather help people who have no clue what they want and are more interested in wasting the workers' time than buying anything. We stood in line for 10 minutes, people ahead of us and behind, and no workers felt the need to ever call for back up, or leave their customers for a moment to ring us up. It's really not the most difficult job in the world! I worked at the Williams-Sonama in Union Square for 2 years, and let me tell you, the dinky little sur la table on avacado has no excuse for their lack of customer service. I will never step foot in their store again.
Love this store! I want everything in it. It was strange to actually go into a store and find things you want to buy and have helpful staff actually assist you.
It's a novel concept.
As someone pointed out, it is a lot like Wiliams-Sonoma. I received great customer service, not saying I don't get it at Williams-Sonoma, as well!
Can't wait to try out some of the cooking classes as I am fairly novice.
Great place to buy stuff for your house. Wide variety of unique stuff you can't find anyplace else.
I am a SUCKER! I now officially purchase more household items than I do clothing! WTF happened here? I am getting older I guess, and I want to entertain and have really bitchen kitchen items? Well, this is the place people. Go!
Walking into Sur La Table, a person can get caught up in the massive amounts of kitchen gadgets, dishware and utensils that is Sur La Table's specialty. That's what happened to me. It took me 20 minutes and a sales associate to finally find an ice cream scoop. In the meantime, I collected a pan scraper, glasses and spatulas. I almost picked up a set of bunny print chopsticks, but I controlled myself.
This is one of the premier places to get hard to find kitchen utensils. Their spatula collection is especially astounding, with sparkly pink ones, mouse-print ones and ones of every color in the rainbow.
The people working here are also extremely friendly. I'm the type who likes to shop without being bombarded by associates and I got that. But then when I did need help, they were there too.
On a side note, Sur La Table offers classes in various topics, as well as occasional book signings.

Ooooohhhhhhhh Aaaahhhhhhhhhhh -- that's the sound of pure orgasmic fervor! Can you blame me if that's the way I feel whenever I step into a Sur La Table? I used to walk into one at least once every fortnight while living in the Bay Area.... not always to purchase something otherwise I'd be broke .... but just to see what's available. To be able to touch and fondle some of the new cooking utensils is pure heaven to me. Yes, I'm a kitchenware pervert, that's what I am.
Since moving to southern California not long ago, I'd not stepped into a Sur La Table for a very long time. Hawaii didn't have one so I'd have to say, it's been almost a year so I'd been having SLT withdrawals. Today, when I saw it, I let out a little 'yelp' which startled hubby. He thought something was wrong. I couldn't even speak but just waved at SLT with the sheer excitement a child would have at the sight of an FAO Schwarz.
I rushed inside and looked around.... soooooooooooo many items, lots of fall and Christmasy colors. Oooooooo look at all the utensils in new colors. What I was REALLY interested in was "do they have knife sharpening services" there. I used to take my knives into SLT 3x a year to get them sharpened. Needless to say, my knives are in need of one desperately. The lady informed me that they do, but I would have to leave them over night. *sigh* better than nothing.
*YELP* did I mention how excited I was to find SLT not too far away???? *YELP*

Nestled in a small strip mall off of PCH and Avocado is every home cook's best friend, Sur La Table. This retail chain, located in major cities throughout California, carries everything from tongs to electric mixers to knives and china.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the prices are competitive. If you're in the industry, make sure to mention it to receive a 20-30% discount of all purchases.
