My favorite place for dim sum in Denver.  The dining room is small compared to other places but the taste and quality is much better than those other places.  Still nothing beats dim sum in SF, NYC, Boston or Vancouver, but Denver's getting there.

Earlier this year I took a long weekend trip to San Francisco with dim sum squarely on my mind, due to poor timing, a misplaced credit card and exhaustion from walking for 3 days straight I never did make it.
Lucky for me, while perusing the Westword recently I learned that fantastic sticky bun redemption could be mine.... somewhere on alameda!?

SSA, is tucked into a small shopping center on the south side of federal between Zuni and  Tejon,  there is no sign on the street or much else other than a small sign above the restaurant to let you know where it is. Confused the hell out of me for about 5 minutes

I arrived sometime after 6pm on a Saturday and had to request a dim sum menu (which according to the menu ends a 4:30). Be prepared folks, I'm not positive that many vegetarian items exist on this menu and it is a big menu.  One item we ordered - steamed leek dumplings included shrimp, and what was only described as flat noodles came with shrimp and scallops.  Everything, and I think we ordered 5 or 6 items was amazing.  The pork sticky buns were nice and light, the dumplings were steamed to perfection and everything else I can't remember was delectable.
This is not a dim sum house for skittish beginners.  No pictures of the items on the menu here, and there are some pretty unusual items like  Shark fin soup, feet of some sort and other niceties.  Bring your Chinese dictionary and prepare for some amazing food!

the name of this restaurant always cracks me up. but it's definitely my family's go-to dim sum eatery right now. it seems like we change our main dim-sum restaurant every few months (we eat the asian breakfast/brunch practically every sunday) and superstar has been a favorite for quite a while right now.  the eats are pretty darn good with great service as well. the only major issue being that because of its popularity, the place is ALWAYS packed and you're guaranteed a cramped wait if you show up later than 10:30 am.

I've always said, if you want good Asian cuisine, flock to where the Asian's are, and the Asians are in full force at Superstar...  I live in Boulder, CO, where there is no authentic dim sum experience to be found.  This dim sum joint is 45 minutes away, yet somehow i find myself here more than i find myself at the chinese restaurants in Boulder.  When i lived in NYC, it was part of my weekend routine to go to Chinatown for dim sum.  There's nothing better after a night out drinking.

We used to go to Kingsland Seafood across the parking lot, which gives you more of an authentic warehouse dim sum experience, but recently we've been coming here more.  To tell you the truth, they're both very good, we just wanted to switch it up for a little bit.

Superstar is very much a hole in the wall, right next to the Mexico burrito storefront with the cardboard sign, but that's how i like it.  Unassuming in style, but high quality in substance.  Walk through the door and it's bustling on any saturday or sunday.  There's typically a 10 - 15 minute wait, but once you sit down it's on.  One of the greatest parts of the dim sum experience is the fact that you can be eating delicious food less than 60 seconds after you sit down.  This place has a great selection of dim sum dishes, from steamed pork buns, to pork shumai, to seafood dumplings, to fried shrimp balls, to jellyfish, to congee, and on and on.  Fill up your tummy with yummy treats, and spend only $10 - $15 doing it!
