Seattle, WA
I read many Yelp reviews for a few of the higher marked automotive places in the Seattle area and decided on Superior. I'm super glad I did and am very happy with their customer & car service.
My manual car was having major issues accelerating in all the gears, mainly 1st. I feared it was the clutch so I emailed for a quote late afternoon on a Friday and received a prompt reply from Sarah. After another question for her I received a response early Monday morning with an apology for the delay in response(no biggie since it was close to closing on Friday) and that she could schedule me for Tuesday.
Dropped the car off Tuesday morning and was given a diagnosis and estimate that afternoon. Looks like the car needed a tune up and replacement clutch =/ Sarah said we could probably get by with just the tune up but eventually the clutch would wear out and need replacing. My husband and I decided to just get the tune up... a few hours later we discussed it more and thought we should go ahead and replace the clutch also for fear of other issues arising later if we didn't do it now. When he called to tell them we wanted the full repair done Sarah informed us that she was just about to give us a ring cause the mechanic took it out for a drive and barely got it around the block. I appreciate that they recognized how costly the repairs were and gave us honest advice.
All the car work was finished by 5pm the following day and ready for pick up. My husband was running a little late and called to let them know he'd be arriving pretty close to closing at 5:30 but that was no problem he was told. He said there was a line of customers behind him as he left, Sarah was still there to check everyone out past closing. I'm not only happy with the courteous and helpful service we received from Sarah & Charlie at the front desk but with the repairs done by the mechanics. Their work comes with a 12 month warranty or 12k miles, whichever comes first. Our car runs great now! I will definitely be recommending Superior Auto Service to family & friends. -

It's not often that a visit to an auto mechanic reaffirms your faith in humanity, but after a visit to Superior Auto Service I can testify that it can happen.
After telling my tale of woe about a Jiffy Lube visit which knocked out my dashboard lights, they promised they'd work my car in and take a look. I dropped my car off and after a few hours they were able to dig around and find that it was two blown fuses which were the problem. They replaced the fuses and declined to bill me anything for it saying that they felt guilty for charging for such a simple thing.
Look who just got a new customer.Listed in: On The Go

I wrote a review over a year ago and have been a client for Superior Auto for five years and with various cars both new and used. The service is great, they back their work and treat both me and my wife with respect. Actually I think my wife now knows more about our cars then me because of Superior Auto's great service.
These guys are a trusted local auto shop for Seattle. Went there because they were in my neighborhood but now I'd travel across town for them.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I have been taking my car to Superior Auto Service for five years, and will continue to do so until the end of time. Sarah and Charlie at the front desk are top-notch, awesome people. They really take the time to get to know you and your car.
They are always up front and honest about repairs that need to be done now vs. what can wait until later. When I told them I planned to do my engine tune-up myself to save money, they were very supportive, and even gave me some pointers! When my tailpipe fell off, they just popped it back up and didn't charge me for the ten minutes of their time. Their estimates are always spot-on with no surprises. I'm a customer for life. -

I had gone to a mechanic that I totally trusted for years and was disappointed that we now live too far away to continue. I looked on Yelp for a local company and was encouraged by what I read about Superior so I made an appointment. Superior not only did a great job at a fair price but also won my trust.

I've been using Superior for about a year now - everything from regular oil changes and maintenance to used car inspections to air conditioning service to more involved engine work. All of it went smoothly and turned out exactly as promised.
The staff is extremely friendly and diligent all around. Best yet, they are honest to a fault - one of the projects I hhad them do actually came in UNDER the quote. When is the last time you took your car to a shop and it cost less than they said it would?!
They are easily the best general repair shop I've been to. I highly recommend them. -

I've brought both of my cars in for various services, and I'm impressed. When it comes to work done on the cars, they are careful, and they do a good job. I like that they don't do the "one part or fluid fits all." If your car requires a specific type of fluid or part, that's what they will use; no substitution with inferior stuff. I find this difficult to find at shops, yet I consider it very important. They will also honestly tell you if you have requested something that they don't feel is necessary.
They also treat you like a person, and will work with you. Whether it's schedule, work to be done, or trying to figure out a problem, discuss it with them. If you have concerns, ask them, they will tell you. If they have concerns, they will discuss with you too, and that's nice to see. This type of business should be about cooperation, and you'll get that here.
These folks understand that the best way to do business is to be honest, do good work, and work with the customers. Repeat customers and recommendations will bring success, and I plan on doing both. -

Having just moved to Ballard, I was not thrilled on the idea of needing to locate a new mechanic. Fortunately, after doing some research on yelp, I stumbled upon this amazing place!
Without an appointment and the very real possibility of my car imploding they took my keys with a reassuring smile and said if I didn't hear from them by that evening to expect an estimate the following morning. Not only was the price reasonable they had my car all fixed up and ready to go by dinner time the next day.
The staff was beyond professional and not once did I feel like I was being taken advantage of. Plus, my 134,000+ mile '01 taurus no longer sounds like a coffee grinder! -

I've gotten my oil changed here for the past couple years, and they've never tried to "upsell" me. They're always fast and friendly too, although I wish they would expand their hours. I highly recommend them!

Review from Robyn S.
I HATE taking my car into get serviced. I dread it more than going to the dentist! It's always expensive and usually inconvenient since most places are not open on weekends. So when my car started making a horrible sound when I put it into reverse...needless to say, I got scared!
After looking through all the auto service reviews on yelp, I decided to take my car into Superior Auto. A lot of yelpers claimed they were honest and fair with good service.
I took it in for an inspection and they not only found the problem I took it in for - but a few other issues. I agreed to get almost everything on the list fixed, since once again - I trusted the yelp reviews and believed that they were an honest business that wouldn't suggest services I did not need. When I got my car back, it was as good as new!
Fast forward 2 months later...and it's time for my 60,000 mile service. Eeeeek! Time to go back to the auto shop.
I call Superior Auto to make an appt. After I make the dreaded appt and hang up, I get a call back 2 min later - turns out, they checked everything on my car during my last appt and it wouldn't be necessary to bring it back again for the same service. WOW! Thank goodness for honesty! It really made my day! :)
They could have easily let me bring my car in and had me pay again for something I just had done, but they didn't. I was very impressed! So impressed that I felt the need to write this review 15 minutes after getting off the phone with them! Superior Auto Service has won my trust and will definitely be my go-to car place from now on! -

This place is amazing.
I dropped my car off on a Friday morning to have them investigate a little shake that seemed to be happening at 40+ mph. They told me over the phone when making my appointment that it was most likely just the tires needing to be balanced, but I decided to do the full car checkup anyhow.
A few hours after dropping my car off I got a call telling me that my tires were the problem, and then they listed (in the most amazing and clear detail I've ever gotten from an auto shop) some of the other issues that I COULD take care of then, if I so chose. I wasn't ready to drop a big chunk of money right then, and instead of pressuring me and telling me my car was going to blow up the second I drove it off the lot, they told me "alright!" I mean COME ON. Has that ever happened at any other auto shop anywhere EVER?
On top of that, they extended my 15% discount to the next time I have service done, since I didn't spend $100 on my first visit. Who are these people??? -

What a great auto shop. I took it in for some engine problems, they identified the problem and gave me a quote which was highly reasonable, plus they identified a couple of things to "watch" for, but didn't push them to be fixed. Great customer service and follow-up, and very competitive rates.
Then I had a different problem so I brought my car in again, and asked them to validate something the Ford dealer service department had told me (that my head gasket was leaking and they quoted me $2000+ for a repair. Their mechanic figured out it was actually a leaking water pump that made it appear to be a leak from the head gasket. What a huge difference!
Awesome place - I highly recommend it. -

I drove by one day and decided to take my dying car in to get an oil change and an estimate on everything else that was wrong with it
These guys are great, they gave me a really fair estimate and explained everything in detail, showing me the parts that needed replacing/fixing. They were so honest that they even recommended that I NOT get my car fixed by them at all because it wouldn't be worth it (after I explained my situation).
Definitely some very knowledgeable, stand-up mechanics. -

Top to bottom, this place does it up right.
I was having many problems with my car for several months, no one seemed to figure out what exactly was causing these problems, all they knew how to do was keep misdiagnosing problems, forcing me to pay thousands of dollars in unneeded repairs. Well, the guys at Superior figured it out and now my car is back to it's normal self, running like a champ.
Their customer service is second to none. Jay, the owner, made it his personal mission to help me get my car running good once again. He spent hours figuring out what exactly needed to be done and gave me a price that was reasonable. The day my car was set to be repaired, Jay was calling into the shop from the hospital, where his wife was in labor with his first born son, to let them know exactly what needed to be done to fix my car. Now, if that's not above and beyond, I don't know what is.
A good mechanic is worth it's weight in gold and Superior Auto Service is pure 24 karat, all the way!
Thanks to all you Yelpers out there who recommended this place to me. Remind me sometime, I owe you a drink. -

Not much to say really. I had initially planned to go to Stingray down in LQA since they were cheaper, but they were booked for the next couple weeks, and these guys were a lot closer. So I called, set up an appointment for the next day, and brought my Accord in - half an hour and $45 later, my oil was changed, my fluids had been topped, and not a thing extra was being sold to me (they did let me know that my air filter would probably need replacing the next time I had my oil changed, but I had expected as much anyway), all of which I appreciated greatly. In fact, they had initially estimated 45 minutes, so finishing ahead of schedule was a nice plus.

Wonderful experience. I found these guys off of yelp. They were honest and didn't try to rip me off. They showed me exactly what was wrong with my brakes and helped me understand what needed to be fixed.
You can tell how dependable these guys are just by looking at the certificate frames as you come in. They're AAA recommended and members of the better business bureau. Plus you can see all their mechanics' certifications when you come in.
Nice guys. Comfy chairs are also a plus. -

When my crap-ass '98 Saturn sedan started freaking out (lights flashing angrily at me) today at University Village, I panicked. I'm new here to Seattle, and without a mechanic. My poor husband had to deal with an insane, crying banshee. What's a poor girl to do in a situation such as this? YELP, of course!!!
I had read about Superior on Yelp previously when looking up the Dish. So glad I remembered that I saw the listing. I called there in a panic, spoke with Jay and discussed my issue. He said "let me guess, Ford Focus, right?" I told him it was a Saturn and he said that was his next guess. He told me most likely that it was a minor issue but that I should bring it in post haste. So I did.
I showed up and even though the lot was full, they dropped everything to diagnose my car's problem. They never once talked down to me (as many a chauvinistic mechanic has) or tried to get me out of their hair. One hour later- my car was checked out- part was ordered and I was told exactly how much this would cost- $107 with tax. PHEW!
These guys rocked and turned my shitty panicked day into a happy one! They obviously deserve every five star review they've recieved. And they are SO proud of their Yelp 5 stars. Seriously. They love Yelp. How could anyone not? -

I've been here 3 times with my awesome (not) 2001 Ford Focus. These guys are professional, talk straight to me and NOT at my boyfriend at my side.
They are honest about what needs done. If I am strapped for cash and need to know what can wait, they are honest about that too.
All the work I have had done I have not had any issues with. -

Like 99.9999% of people with a pulse, I dread getting auto work done.
I've owned an Audi, BMW, and now a Lexus SUV. Dealership service prices for these cars are ridiculously expensive. And like everyone here, I'd rather find an independent mechanic that's skilled, fair, honest, and reasonably priced. But every time I tell an independent mechanic I own a luxury brand, I can see the dollar signs in their eyes light up while they start greasing the shaft they're about to shove up my a**. Everyone's had that pit of their stomach feeling when you're about to get ripped off by a mechanic. This was not the case at Superior Auto Service.
My RX330 needed full front and rear rotors and brake pads. I researched a few Lexus forums online, and found that $800-$1000 was the going rate at most mechanics around the country.
After 27 previous recommendations and high star ratings, I took the advice of my fellow Yelpers and set an appointment with SAS.
The good:
* Their service manager Charlie is courteous, knowledgeable, and respectful.
* Work was quoted over the phone at roughly $800. Ended up paying only $740. People on the Lexus forums were paying up to $1k for the same brake service!!!
* No pressure for 'add on' or additional services. They did the work I requested and gave me recommendations for services needed in the future.
* After 24 hours, no squeaks, grinding, or noise. Quality work, with warranty included.
* Comfortable waiting area.
* Their shop is on a bus line to downtown Seattle (bus #28) and to the University District (bus #46). No need to ask friends for a ride to/from the shop. Its also a nice option if your car needs to be at the shop for longer repairs.
The bad:
* I wish I found Superior Auto Service sooner!
Their reputation for quality, fair priced, honest work is well earned. Honesty in an auto mechanic? If Hell has frozen over - I'm getting my snowboard!Listed in: My Neighborhood

These guys are awesome. They saved the poor granny car from a huge electrical problem, and charged me $100 less than I was expecting to pay. In fact, I like 'em so much I'm going to bring the car back in January for the car's 60,000 mile check-up.
Oh, and Lori's totally right about the chairs. A++++ -
Review from Rylee O.
I went to Superior when I heard some squeaking coming from my brakes and decided to have them checked while getting an oil change.
Luckily for me the brakes were fine, but they did recommend getting two new tires in the front as mine were apparently ready to shred and I was going to be taking a road trip to Portland in a few days.
I am a frugal chick - so when someone says new tires I automatically think BUDGET BUSTER. Luckily for me the guys at Superior really are superior because they estimated the tires I needed would be $90 each including installation, etc. - which wasn't too bad. AND while wasting time at the Fred Meyers while they did the work I got a call saying they had done some research on-line and called a friend in the tire business and found quality tires for me - at less than $70 installed.
My experience at Superior was excellent - and I always recommend them to friends. And now to the world through Yelp. -

I have been going to Superior for a couple of years now. First with my German car which always seemed to be breaking down and now with my Asian car which brings me to Superior every 3,000 miles for an oil change. Superior actually encouraged me to get a different car because they realistically knew the long-term prognosis for my old car. They cared less about their bottom line and more about the reality of my situation. When I was car shopping, they told me they would be happy to inspect any car I was thinking about purchasing and Charlie even looked up trade reviews on some vehicles I was interested in buying to see how they stacked up. Can you say "Customer Service"???
The customer service at Superior is top notch. Charlie & Sarah that manage the front are a dream team & begin to feel like friends. They schedule appointments both over the phone or online. They check-in with you midday to update you about your vehicle's progress as well as when you can expect the job to be complete. At the end of the day, they (or a mechanic) review the work that was performed on your vehicle. The mechanics are excellent at what they do and take the time to come up to the front to explain your car details to you or walk outside to your vehicle to indicate things they think you should know.
I have sent family and friends to Superior and had random other "aha" moments with friends when we find out we both have been mutually going to Superior for years. There's a reason they have gotten such great reviews on here. Word of mouth is everything and I won't take my car anywhere else. -

These guys are awesome!
I went in with three specific issues and that's what they worked on. They didn't take advantage of me and they were very helpful in getting me good quality replacement corner lenses at an affordable cost.
They are honest and sincere and that's the way it should be. -

I took my car here this week on the reccomendation of my boyfriend. My car needed a timing belt and an oil change.
Jay was friendly and professional and quick to get me a quote. that was Friday. Monday morning I dropped my car off and got at call at 3:30 that it was ready! Thats it! They didn't call to lecture me about all the fluids I let get low, or sell me things I didn't need. (Jiffy Lube tried to sell me rear differential fluid - I don't have a rear differential!)
The actual cost ended up being right in line with the quote. I would definitley go there again. -

One of the things I was dreading after moving to Seattle was finding a new mechanic/auto service place. Luckily, I had a recommendation from a friend to try out Superior Auto Service. And luckily, I really, really, really liked them. A lot.
I had just driven my Honda from Milwaukee, WI, to Seattle, and it was making some very, um...scary noises. So I knew something bad was going on, plus it also needed an oil change. The folks at Superior were very, very nice and professional. And the place was packed, so obviously this is a well-liked business.
Turns out I needed to have some serious work done -- new radiator, new thermostat, and a new front wheel assembly. Expensive? Yes. But expected, of course, for a 10 year-old Accord whose health has been gradually declining after breaking 100,000 miles.
Here's the thing that completely won me over: They physically took me back into the shop and pointed out what was wrong with my car. The mechanic showed me the leaks in the radiator and thermostat. He demonstrated the lovely grinding noise that occurred when the front driver's side wheel was oh-so gently turned. He talked to me like a real human being with a brain -- not some "dumb girl who knows jack about cars," like I'm usually treated at auto shops.
And for that, I will definitely be back. Also, they don't try to sell you things you don't need immediately. There were a few other bits of work that needed to be done, but they understood that I was already pouring quite a bit of cash into the car, and helped me prioritize the crucial stuff. Now that's what I like -- people who can keep it real and understand when money is tight.
Oh...comfy waiting room, wi-fi, and The Dish cafe is right across the street if you want to grab some yummy breakfast. Extra bonus. -

This is the only place my business uses for 99% of our fleet services. They are always very up front and honest with me on the phone in regards to cost, time of completion and if they can do the work or not. If they can't do it they can recommend someone who can.
I have spoken with Jay, Charlie and Sarah and all three try to do whatever they can to get us in and out as fast as possible. From simple LOF's to full mechanical problems they are there to help.
I am concerned with the fact they ARE so great. They will need to expand soon or else customers will have to wait longer and longer for services to be completed.
Now that I have a car of my own I am considering taking it there too! -

I would not even consider taking my car anywhere else.
I took my car here after Midas told me I needed to spend gobs of cash on my breaks. You only have 5% left on your break pads said the monster behind the counter. I am glad I did not pay them.
I took them to Superior Auto and told them I needed my breaks fixed. Not so, said the gentlemen behind the counter you have at least 40% left.
At that moment I did not know what to do. I was pissed at Midas and thrilled with Superior Auto for not taking my money when they could have. So I turned in the general direction of Midas and gave a middle finger fist pump as I screamed mother bitches Yeaaaaa! -

I found these guys on Yelp....they had the best reviews, and I must say that SAS is completely deserving of those high marks.
I went in for a routine oil change. They took my car immediately and I waited in the lobby on a squishy leather couch. It took about 35 minutes. The guy came back and told me that I had a couple small issues... nothing that needed to be repaired immediately, but something I should think about down the road (so to speak...).
They know how to talk about car stuff to people who don't know much about cars, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is remarkable. They were very friendly, called me by my first name, and put absolutely no pressure on me to buy anything beyond what I asked for. Oil change, with fluids topped off, air in the tires and a 27-point inspection cost $35. Maybe more than a Jiffy Lube, but I want my car in the hands of experts who aren't trying to rip me off. SAS, you rock!

Can't say anything good about this place that hasn't already been said. I do wish I'd found them sooner than 1 1/2 years ago! They've taken the best care of my aging Civic and have charged me much-lower-than-expected prices on its rebuilt transmission, its brakes, and its speedometer, and overall I can't recommend this place enough.
They call around for the best deal without putting in cheap parts that will fail soon. They don't do anything unecessary, they listen to their customers, they give good advice on whether something can safely be put off until the next time, and with as many people as he must see, Charlie recognizes my voice on the phone and connects it to what I drive. Must be all the money I've given them! ;-)
I now have two roommates hooked on Superior, and one is a Civic driver and fellow refugee from Salmon's Chevron on 85th (shudder) (side note: if you are a Salmon's customer, stop going now if you value your vehicle and/or your bank balance).
I used to dread mechanics as much as the next person. Now I actually look forward to going in for an oil change! These guys are the best. -

Holy crap, Yelp was so right.
The owner, Jay, took my Friday-just-before-closing phone call, in which I was despondent because Betty had a broken mirror and Civ's "check engine" light had just come on. He asked a few simple questions, told me that my engine would be fine for a few days ("If you were my sister and it came on while you were out of town, I'd tell you it's okay to drive it back") and that they could replace Betty's mirror in the mean time.
Now, I hate to say it, but I was skeptical: how *much* would said mirror be? How long would it take to order the part? Once Betty was done, could I swap her out for Civ and have both cars by the end of the week?
Answers: a hundred bucks including labor, one day (ONE DAY!!), yes, and hell yes. While they were at it, they welded Civ's exhaust panel, which was rattling like the dickens, and gave us their 15% "new customer" discount, which Jay applied to Civ's bill because it was bigger (even though Betty came first). He also didn't bitch when I didn't want Betty's oil topped off, since we had some at home.
With their fast, friendly, down-to-earth business, Superior Auto Service just got two more customers for life. I suggest you take your car (whether she's named or not) next time she needs a little love - Jay and his team will give it to her. -

My car is 2000. The previous mechanic (on 15th Ave NW, across Central Market in Ballard) told me I need to replace the engine which I had been driving with the engine light was on for over a month. I declared to that mechanic, I'd rather replace my car than the engine. He proposed to replace a hose & told me that worked after charging me $200 for check up, parts & labour. The engine light was on again in a month & I decided to wait til I find a reliable mechanic for that.
Thanks for yelpers' reviews. I have visited Superior Auto yesterday. These guys rock!!!
They are professional, honest, didn't ask me to do anything extra. I had a thorough check up, oil change, carbon filter replacement for $270. They explained everything in detail and they were even printed on invoice. Suprisingly, they told me my car was in pretty good shape (ha. if I listen to the previous mech, i'd be in big trouble). I definitely will go back for their superb service even though I have moved to Eastside. -

Plain and simple: all of the positive reviews on yelp about Superior Auto are completely true. Do not hesitate to take your car to them. Great, great, great experience!
I took my 1999 Honda Civic in for a break inspection and to have an oil leak diagnosed. They couldn't get me in Monday, but said they could fit me in Tuesday. I dropped it off Tuesday morning and got a call back from Charlie at the front desk not long after. He first gave me the diagnosis of the problems I took my car in for, and then informed me of other areas of my car that may need attention soon, or needed attention immediately. Now, I need to stress that while telling me all of the problems and issues my car needed or would need to have addressed I NEVER felt pressured to do anything. I wasn't made to feel like I had to pay to have anything done that I didn't want. Very important, because a lot of places will strong arm you into having work done you may not need at all, or may not need at that time.
Along with giving me a run down of the work that I needed, Charlie also helped prioritize and explain to me how long I could go without fixing something and what was most important to fix now. I can't stress enough how comfortable and stress free the phone call was, and my entire experience for that matter. I hate talking on the phone, and I especially hate talking about something I know very little about. Charlie was helpful, informative and friendly and made the whole process very easy! I was confident I was given a factual diagnosis of my car.
The work on my car was completed in a timely manner and had my car back within 24 hours! The technician that worked on my car went out of his way to get the work done promptly. I really appreciated it, thank you! I'm willing to bet that all the technicians at Superior are just as professional, friendly and committed.
As others have said, the waiting room is VERY comfortable with TV, newspaper and magazines... NEW magazines and newspapers that is, no stack of Sunset magazine or Car and Driver from 1999. Also; walking back to get my car I got a peak at the garage and it's just as clean and well put together as the waiting room and front desks. That's a good sign and makes me feel comfortable having my car worked on at Superior.
Bottom line: TAKE YOUR CAR TO SUPERIOR AUTO SERVICES! If you live in the greater Seattle area this is the place to go for service on your car. I couldn't be more satisfied with my experience, I'll be taking my car here from now on!
Thanks to all at Superior Auto Service. -

After many failed attempts working directly with the dealers, I had to seek out another solution to work on my Honda. At first I had to convince myself it was okay to go elsewhere and I am so glad I did! Charlie and Sarah in the front are awesome. They are knowledgable, friendly and accomodating. I've had major work done and simple oil changes and so far the service has been beyond awesome.
At one point, there was clicking coming from my engine and of couse when I'd bring it in for service it wasn't there. So Charlie said that when I hear the clicking, I should drive it over there and they would take a look immediately. Told me to keep the engine running and he would have someone come out and test drive it with me. That is what I did and they were able to diagnose the problem and schedule the appointment.
I am quite satisfied with Superior Auto Service and though I hope not to have to go back before my next oil change, I do look foward to seeing them again. -
Review from Erik M.
We've been taking our cars to Superior for about five years now, for services ranging from a basic oil change to a complete fuel injection system cleaning, and while they are a little more expensive than other shops, I have always felt the work they do is top notch and I've never gotten the impression that they were trying to upsell some unnecessary service or maintenance.
On the occasions that an inspection has turned up something, they've always given me options and been realistic about how much longer I might wait before having to fix it.
For example, I used to have an older Saab that came with expensive Bridgestone tires, and they said I had maybe 5000 miles left on two of them, but given how much I actually drive I could probably get another year on them. Even though they could have ordered the same Bridgestones to replace them, they found another brand with a good reputation and similar tread pattern for a third of the cost, and said they'd order those when I was ready.
Throw in friendly service at the counter, a clean and comfortable lobby area, and the ability to make appointments online, and you've got yourself a great service shop. Given that auto repair is a notoriously dishonest, hit and miss industry, Superior is one of the few establishments I've found that hasn't given me cause to doubt them.Listed in: Ballard Shops and Services

Four stars because I haven't actually gotten my car back from them yet.
But as a person who has serious problems dealing with her car, I picked Superior strictly because of all the glowing things people have said on Yelp, and was pleased to visit their website and find that I could submit a quote online. This meant that I didn't have to call and speak to a real person who would judge me for not taking care of my car. (I let it sit, dead, for 4 months- so technically, I deserve to be judged.)
Within 20 minutes of submitting my online quote, I had a response that reassured me that this was the right place to go. They offer a $100 discount for new customers, suggested a towing company (shoulda used another one, but whatev), and suggested I call for an appointment, which I did. They were just as friendly over the phone, and told me if I had my car brought in that afternoon, they could have it ready by the next day.
Had car towed in the afternoon. Was called by 10am the next morning with a list of problems. Got to pick and choose and get an exact price quote for what it was going to take to fix. Towing fees, new battery, new ignition switch, labor: around five hundo bones. I'd assumed it was going to be like, $3 grand, so I was THRILLED. Tossed in an oil change and an overall inspection for the future, and I'm just so glad I'm going to be on the road tomorrow with money still in my bank account. -

I have no problem admitting I really don't know jack about my car and it can be overwhelming to take it in somewhere and have to worry that they'll take advantage of you because of this fact. I've unfortunately experienced this and it makes one very leery of mechanics.
But not the kind folks here on Leary!
As I type this, I am sitting in their customer waiting area with WIFI! In a nice cushy leather chair!
Now, to what really matters---Superior has great yelp reviews because they are a great shop. They are always upfront, honest and understand that you're poor and can only get the necessary things done to keep the 'ol Tercel running. I've only had great experiences with them and I recommend them to anyone who asks about a mechanic. They won't take advantage of your lack of car knowledge and also don't make you feel stupid for not having such knowledge. -

So I'm getting my oil changed at this ho-hum-found-a-coupon-for-a-cheap-oil-change place and I told them to keep any eye out for my alternator belts. They came back with a distressed look on their faces. My serpentine belt was shredded they said.
One of the guys gave me a quote of $550!
Ridiculous, I said. So i jumped on to trust ol' http://Yelp.com to see if I could find a better mechanic in Seattle. Luckily, Yelp hasn't failed me yet. I went in today, they replaced my belts in a hour and a half (when the other place told me "a couple of days")!!
To make the story even sweeter, they only charged me $146!!!
I'm definitely referring everyone I know to this place. You won't find better service anywhere else in the city. -

They're not my regular mechanics, but they're a good Plan B when i can't get my baby to Bellevue or when i need something simple like an oil change.
Good things: They rotated my tires after asking if i was due for a rotation. They didn't charge for it. They can do fairly speedy oil changes and don't sell unnecessary products like, oh, Jiffy Lube. They're very honest and communicative, and they don't have the annoying habit that many independent garages have of having a single point of contact for your car; everyone knows what's up and everyone can help you.
Bad things: Yes, the diagnostic fee is high. They seem to have a few haters but their accounts seem to out-of-character for the place that i suggest they be taken with a grain of salt...popularity tends to bring out people with grudges.
Bad rebutted:However, half the time they fix the problem and you end up paying the diagnostic fee plus a part. A good friend brought the car in for brakes as she had been issued a dire warning by another place; Jay, who was clearly having a rough day, took a moment when he heard who had recommended the brakes be replaced, popped the tires off, looked at it, and opined that the brake pads had "another 7000-10000 miles. They're crazy." What do we owe you? "Nothing. Bring it back when you need brakes." I suspect it kinda made his day. That's a pretty hearty recommendation for a repair shop that refusing money made them happy.
I just have years of rapport with my mechanic in Bellevue. If he retired tomorrow, i'd start going here in a heartbeat. These folks get the "i need a car that runs and isn't presenting any seriously dangeous condition" reality and do well by it. -

I have taken my car to Superior twice... One time was for alternator trouble, and the other was for a bent axle. I was satisfied both times.
On a separate occasion, I got an estimate from them on a brake job, then went to a so-called "affordable" place to get a price comparison, and the other place gave me a much higher quote on the same work!! So that made me trust Superior even more.
The guys at Superior have so far proven to be pretty trustworthy, and they do quick work. Give 'em a shot!
