I am still in shock after visiting Super Cuts for a haircut the other day. I got exactly the cut I wanted. How strange is that?

Usually when I ask the hairdresser to keep my bangs long, that is the first thing that is clipped extra short. If I want my hairdresser to use scissors instead of clippers, out come the clippers.... OK, all of you out there are nodding your heads. You've had the same experience.

Super Cuts is a neat and clean shop with bargain prices for a haircut or other services.  Seem to recall they have senior rates but forgot how much they are.

Lucked out and got Elena who is a dream of a hairdresser. She  is pleasant and courteous. More importantly, she listens carefully to what you want in a hair cut and gives you exactly that cut. Even a few days later, I am still pleased with my cut. The shop might be called Super Cuts, but Elena is a Super Haircutter.

I can't say I'm satisfied with my not-so Supercut this time.  Usually, its pretty simple...I tell them 1,2 or 3 depending on how short I want my sides...then square or round...then sideburns or not.  It takes them roughly 8 1/2 minutes to complete the process.  However, at $17 I expect them to at least glance to make sure the edges were even, or at least snip the top to ensure the ends grow out correctly.  Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the Supercuts philosophy..maybe its was just this particular day.  Unfortunately my cut was for a special event and I don't think its up to par.  Anyway, its probably time for me to re-evalute assembly line hair cuts.  I need someone who actually takes the time to make you look your best, or at least pretends they are.

I have been going to SuperCuts in Albany for years and my favorite hair cutters come and go :-( However, for the past 2 years, I have had a FANTASTIC hair cutter there; her name is Praphay (rhymes with "Popeye") and she is Thai. The others there can't seem to remember her name, so they call her "Air". Whenever I go to SuperCuts, I ask for Air. If she's not available, I wait or come back another day. The experience I've had with some of the other hair cutters was so bad that I only use Praphay now.

I went to this place one time and one time only. This was back in 2000 or so. I got such a bad hair cut from this guy that I never went back again.

There is one place that I go to get my hair cut that is just awesome and surprisingly affordable. There is this lady past Solano Ave if you drive about 2 blocks to the west. It is on the other side of San Pablo Ave, on the side of the 80 freeway. The place is called Hair Fashions. It doesn't seem to be listed on yelp.

Anyhow, this lady has like 30 years of experience cutting hair and she charges rates BELOW supercuts. She knows exactly what to do and how to cut hair to suit whatever person. So I just leave it to her to get an excellent hair cut.

The best hair cuts are given by people with years and years of experience.

There are at least 4 different haircutters at this Supercuts that
always give me a great haircut.  I have very difficult hair to cut because
it is thick and I have about 5 cowlicks that go in every direction.

Each of the cuttters has spotted this problem without my having to point it out, and dealt with the
cowlicks.  When I get a bad haircut, my hair stands out in tufts like
a bobcat...........that has never happened at this Supercuts and
I've always found everyone who works there to be very curteous, as well as being good at what they do..

OK, I'll admit that as far as haircuts go, I'm cheap and somewhat lazy.  So when I start to "curl up" too much on the back and otherwise look a little ragged (at least in my opinion), I either make a special trip to the Montclair barber or just drive by and see if Supercuts is busy or not.

I could do better, but most to time I'm just fine with the person who cuts my hair and the results.  I do get what I pay for which in my estimation is a fair value for the money.

Wow. You really DO get what you pay for. All I wanted was to trim my long hair and get some bangs cut like I used to have, so I could look nice and pretty for a passport photo. I even brought along a picture of what I used to look like with bangs! Not only did the bangs not look anything like the photo, you couldn't even really *see* them. I probably could have counted the number of hairs she trimmed. The bangs she gave me were so unnoticeable, she decided to gel them up so that they would stay in front of my face. All it did was make it look like I had two fangs growing off the top of my head. And as soon as I stepped outside into the wind, poof. All gone. Hello world, meet my forehead.

I'm also not sure what's up with their "No free blowdrying" policy. Could someone explain that nonsense? Because when I walked out of there, my hair instantly frizzed up and I looked even WORSE and not at all ready for a passport photo.

And you know what I did when I got home? I immediately left again to get my hair fixed somewhere else. I went to Chinatown, because I was still of the mind to get a cheap haircut, but at least in Chinatown I knew they would flatten and blowdry my hair as part of the deal. I paid the same amount as I did at Supercuts ($20, including tip), but I came out looking infinitely better, with fuller bangs to boot. SuperCuts lady kept trying to excuse her poor job by telling me that my part was too well-defined to give me bangs that would cover my forehead. However, that didn't stop the nice folks in Chinatown from giving me what I wanted.

I learned my lesson though. If I *have* to do a budget cut, I should go to Chinatown. Otherwise, I should just save up and get my hair done at one of those fancier places (which is what I did the time after this awful experience).

This is not the best place to have a hair cut.  But, if you are looking for something like a "fast food", I tell you this great for the buck.  At least, people are friendly.

OMFG!
I will start by saying that 5 or 6 years ago, there was a lady there who cut my hair really great.

In the past several years, these people are less and less professional.  Last time I was there, the maniac cutting my hair started "thinning" it out because according to her "it's too thick and full"

Bitch, I LIKE my hair thick and full!

I'm lucky enough to have lots of hair, but this nut started using the comb/shears in a horizontal fashion, hacking away at it, and I couldn't stop her before several whacks had been taken.

So, ALL YEAR, I've lived with this horrible mess, waiting for it to grow back out.  A one year ponytail.

because i'm a broke ass student, I couldn't afford to drop $100 for a hair cut, so I went back, for lack of a better affordable place to go, hoping for better luck, and I really need a cut now that I'm looking for a job.

Long story short: I walked in and was told "someone will be right with you"

Uh huh.
45 minutes later, I walked out.

I don't know if the 6 or 7 people who walked in after me and got called before me had appointments, but I don't care.  A good receptionist would have told me to go walk around for an hour, or go have lunch.  Keeping me waiting there...screw them.

I went across the street to "Head" and had one of the BEST hair cuts I've ever had, for FIFTEEN DOLLARS.

Ironic the place is called Head, because Supercuts can blow me.

The manager (I presume, having witnessed her staff-coordination-on-the-fly talents in action) is a rather raucous blonde babe who has seen it all, a lot of it from behind a set of chrome handlebars if my spidey senses are correct.  That's her, with the purple streaks framing her expressive forty-something face.  That's the lady who will give you possibly the best haircut you've ever had, for something like $16.
I wish I knew her name.  I'll ask, when I go back today.
There's a cheery Vietnamese lady called Julia, there, who has given me my 3rd-best haircut a couple of times, and a West African chick called [sounds like] Cologna (Cologne-ya) who rendered for me the 2nd best cut, ever.  But really it's all about that blonde lady.  So maybe you sit and wait for a while: use the time to watch her, and the rest of the staff, work some magic.  Seriously.  Put a zero after that $16 and you will have gotten what you paid for, without enduring a much longer wait and so much bitchy gossip at some other local salons.

As far as Supercuts go, this one is my favorite.  I always seem to have a good experience here if I just take it for what it is, a quick basic hair cutting place.  The people are friendly and I like the ability to call ahead and get on their waiting list.
