The regular beef may be average like the other reviewers said.  The beef tongue and beef cheek (cabesa) are very good.  I tried both the taco and burrito.  They are both very good.  They give you two big wedges of avocado and plenty of meat among other things in the taco.  I think they do the same for the burrito, but they are all wrapped up so you don't see them spilling over.

This location is close to San Jose State University.  It is pretty busy and that would mean ingredients would be fresh due to frequent turn over.

It should be called "Solid Taqueria" as there is nothing "super" about it.

If you took every Mexican restaurant on the planet and gave them a 1 through 5 rating, this place would be right smack dab down the middle. It is pretty much the highest point of the "bell curve." It's about as average as it gets.

At least it doesn't suck. And well, they do use real guacamole. But any Mexican joint that uses canned guacamole is at the other end of the bell curve.

So yeah, in the end, I will dish out 3 stars for Solid Taqueria.

One of the biggest eyebrow raisers in college was my peers obession with this place. It's terribly average, with nothing memorable to it. I've tried burritos and tacos here always thinking " so what's the hype?" ....not to be confused with " where;s the beef?"

Iguana's is the best tasting n this area, but if Mexican food with no flavor is your goal, then put on your red cape and fly on over to Super Taq!

One of my classmates loves this place, and wanted to go yesterday between classes (at SJSU).  I ordered a chile verde super taco and it was delicious!!!  avocado, beans, melted cheese, and the meat was good. I was really impressed by the corn tortillas... so delicious! Really good taco, and super cheap- $2.79.  My friend was nice enough to share her horchata and that was really good too.

I took off one star because they have this amazing salsa bar with green salsa, cilantro, and pico, but no chips to enjoy it with!  Not even to buy!  This might be the gringa in me, but where I come from (Texas) there are ALWAYS chips! :(  Also my friend found some meat in her no-meat burrito....luckily she's not a vegetarian so it was no biggie, but vegetarians beware!

So I came here for lunch yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how good my burrito was.  I ordered the super giant chicken burrito.  It was filled with yummy beans, rice, cheese, avocado, and nice white meat chicken.  I really like the fact that they didn't fill my burrito with salsa.  Just enough to get the flavor and not have the burrito be a sloppy mess.

ps- it's cash only but they have an ATM

Yay! Mexican food, my fav-o-rite!

Tim and I stopped by this joint after a grueling day of school and were in need of tacos ... desperately to feed our spirits. I ordered two Asada tacos and a small drink for around 5 bucks. Happy wallet, riiight?

Our tacos were prepared quickly and were steaming hot as we bit into them. I questioned if these tacos were enough to fill our bellies because honestly, I think we're the fattest-skinniest couple alive. (Fat internally- that is!)

The tacos were delicious, they came with 2 corn tortillas, melty cheese, beans and choice of meat. The size was just right to make me satisfied and was perfect with salsa verde and a squeeze of lemon.

This place is "cash only" and their candy machines jip you! Tim knows, haha!

Can someone enlighten me to the significance of portraits above the cashier? Muchos gracias in advance.

I used to go to Super Tacs on Story & White since the early 1990's and this place still represents!  The carne asada super burrito (rice, pico de gallo salsa,  whole beans, cheese, avocado) is my favorite.  I always grab an extra habanero, lemon, cilantro, and house tomatillo chile to throw in the mix.

I also opt for the Carne Asada torta.  Make sure you ask for double meet ($1 extra) since you only get a thin cut of steak and ask for light or no sour cream since they drench that stuff.  Plus I really like the horchata drink here.

Cash only so bring your bucks.

The burritos were pretty good considering the price you'll pay.  I ordered a giant burrito with carne asada and guacamole and cheese (that was extra) for a total of $5.23.  If you compared it to Iguana's or La Victoria's super burrito, these giant burritos were around the same size though I think it was smaller by a little.  This wasn't that far of a walk from San Jose State's campus so that's good.

They only accept cash.

It takes a lot to squeeze 5 stars out of me. Generally it means that I consider a restaurant to be at the top of its genre. In Super Taqueria's case, I consider them to be a model taqueria.

Been coming to the 10th St location for over 20 yrs now. The food still tastes the same as it did as back in the 80's and it's still the best deal in town. Only time I stopped was when they shut down for remodeling a couple years back.

Whether you like tacos or burritos, they're all good. I especially like the freshly grilled carne asada the best. Carnitas are a close second. The chicken is OK, but lacks flavor IMHO. My kids like the "little burritos", which are your simple refried beans and cheese offering. The quesadillas are also tasty - crispy, hot off the grill, and loaded with cheese and whatever meat you ordered with it.

One of our favorites is the basic tostada. Refried beans, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream for under a buck. Load it up with salsa and peppers, and you can fill up for cheap. Perfect for the starving SJSU student.

They have a nice self-serve salsa station with different salsa varieties, sauces, peppers, etc. I like the red picante sauce myself.

I've been to a helluva lot of Mexican restaurants all over the states and then some. I always like coming back to Super Taq. They offer outstanding value, fast and friendly service, plenty of off-street parking, and just about the best tasting meal regardless of price.

Super Taqueria is only okay. They have really big burritos but there's not really anything special about them.  Tortillas are too thin and break easily, and the insides are a little messy.  They're open pretty late though, with decent prices and a great location.

My favorite burrito is the carne asada super burrito .. YUM! It's huge and stuffed with cheese, whole beans, pico de gallo,, avocado and steak meat! They also have a salsa bar, I LOVE the green sauce with my food. I also dig on the chicken flautas (taquitos) and the super tacos!

This place is the best for Mexican food!

Super Taqueria is one of the best places in my opinion to get good mexican food. I generally get the super burrito with carne asada and refried beans. I also get the chicken quesadilla with a flour tortilla. The chicken has excellent flavor. I really like the cilantro, onion, and lime at the little salsa bar. I've visited the location on Almaden Rd and they're like night and day, the 10th St location is day. They seem much cleaner and friendlier. Their burritos are better than Tlaquepaque and so is the service. They give you really good portions and are very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend them.

I love love love love this place. No matter where I have lived San Francisco, L.A., and Phoenix and SF has some great taquerias, I always find myself thinking about their tacos. Even the veggie tacos are super yummy! We were recently here on a business trip although SF was not too far away. Even if I am passing through or close enough in the area, I will make an effort to come to this location or there other one on McLaughlin. It must be the great amount of cheese, meat, beans and the way they toast their tortillas. But whatever it is, these are my fantasy tacos.

I have gone to state for longer than I care to mention, but I have never been to Super Taqueria until today.
We went to visit my husband's family and I told his uncle I had a craving for tacos.  He said that we had to go to Super Taqueria.
I ordered the super tacos (cheese, avocado, a little beans and meat).  Their special on the weekend is rico tacos de cabeza.  And by God, they were HEAVEN.
My husband's uncle told me that next time I should ask for a crispy taco...a grilled tortilla wrapped in a steamed one.  My mouth is still watering thinking about it...
Try the green salsa for a great kick.  I'm really into spicy stuff, my husband not so much, so he enjoyed the red one.
The horchata was delicious, but I know I will be dreaming of cabeza tacos for weeks now.
CASH ONLY!!!

Best tacos in San Jose for over 2 decades.
I first went there when I was in college in the mid 80's and never stopped going.  In fact, I live in San Diego now and when I come home to visit San Jose, I ALWAYS stop in here to get the great carne asada super tacos.
They have not changed in all the years I have been eating them, and that is most certainly a good thing.
I think it's the way they lightly griddle the corn tortillas with the cheese.  Meat, beans, salsa and avocado.  What else do you need?  Other than the awesome green hot sauce they make on site.
Five stars all the way!!

I ordered my usual, super burrito carne asada, and I was looking for a fresca, but they only had horchata, which I'm not too fond of, but I got anyways.

The burrito was pretty good, definitely above average. Everything was put together nicely. I thought the meat was a touch overcooked as I had trouble swallowing and I ran out of horchata and I had to find myself some water. I probably would have enjoyed the burrito a lot more if it didn't have any meat in it, but I am really picky about the meat that I eat, and I rarely think that it's cooked to perfection.

The horchata was suprisingly good. It didn't have too much cinnamon, and it wasn't too sweet. I would get it again, despite not liking it too much before.

After eating at La Victoria, I feel that any burrito I eat can be improved upon by their notorious orange hot sauce, so I think that adding that sauce to their burritos would make them totally scrumptious.

Nothing special here.

admittedly so, it's been 3 years since i've been here. however, considering you were probably the last EVER carne asada i've had since going pescetarian you are my first and last love!

the carne asada tacos absolutely CANNOT be beat. fresh avoc slices make them to DIE for. literally, if i had to choose what my last meal ever would be i'd have to at least have a last bite of your tacos, they're that good.

if i still lived in san jose you'd be the reason i'd eat meat again....  *sigh*

This is by far my fav taqueria. It is the best taqueria in San Jose given its authenticity, quality, and pricing. The service is always speedy. Even when there is a long line during lunch hour, you won't be waiting for long. The cooks greet everyone with a smile. I always order the Super burrito de carne asada (beef steak burriito) it's a good-sized burrito and it's around 5 bucks. What patrons may dislike: small parking lot & at least one individual hanging out by the door pan-handling.

My "meatless burrito" for $2.79 was a sizable beast, filled with well-cooked and flavorful pinto beans and a generous amount of completely melted (and so extra yummy) cheese. Combined with and/or doused in various of the available fresh salsas and hot sauces, it was really quite the delicious and frugal quick meal!

yummy fooooood!  big portions, and a side cart thing where you can get all your own condiments (like fresh salsa, sauces, etc)

pros:
tastes gooood! but maybe i'm just a fan of mexican food.
portions are generous, and really cheap.
lots of booths, and quick service.
i think they even give you free tortilla chips.

cons:
i ordered some horchata.  i thought it was too sweet.

there was a bum sitting in a booth next to the cashier, asking for money. i gave him half of my burrito and i think the employees got mad at me for encouraging him.

When evaluating whether to sample an ethnic restaurant, a good sign to watch for is whether or not there are a lot of ethnics eating inside.  And this is certainly true for Super Taqueria.  On any given Sunday, there'll be Latino families in here, dressed for church, stopping by here to get a decent meal after attending their morning services.  And if you look at the cars in the parking lot, many of them are middle to upper-middle class too, which is another good sign.

On Sundays though, there's a special called "Tacos de Cabeza" which are offered here.  It's one of their BEST items available.  No initial visit to this restaurant would be complete without at least trying this item first.

What many of these families are eating is the carne asada, or grilled beef steak..  This carne asada is the aroma that you'll smell as you're walking up to their front doors, and it's also among the best grilled steak in the South Bay, whether it is in the super taco, or in the super burrito.  But people who like their food spicier will have to add the green salsa though with the extra parsley and onions to get that extra kick, which is often standard procedure at this place.

For value for the money, the Super burritos are the best because unlike so many other local Mexican places, Super Taqueria does not try to penny-pinch by filling their burritos with inexpensive rice:  Here they spare no expense by cramming their burritos with the more expensive meat and avocados instead.  And the large tortilla is enough for carbohydrates anyways.

So, 5 stars out of five, for the grilled steak with the green sauce, and the tacos de cabeza.

Super Taq is really the best bang for your buck when it comes to Mexican food. I usually get the classico burrito with asada or carnitas and have rarely come away unsatisfied.

My only problem with the place is that I live so close to it that I'm already burnt out on it. Don't let that stop you from filling up though. They're also cash only (at this location at least)

(protip: order the secret "chico meal". It's a quesadilla, some beans, some rice and a little salad for like 2 bucks or so. It's their kids meal but you don't need to know that. Whoops. )

For real Mexican food, meaning burritos and tacos only, this is the place to go. I like my burritos with no rice and no lettuce in them. At Super Taqueria there is no such thing! The carne asada burritos are filling and come with alot of meat. The avocado complements the burrito and the red sauce is great.
The tacos are refreshing and have great flavor. The quesadillas and taquitos are also worth it.
I enjoyed the fact that you could spend less than six dollars and leave with a full stomach and wallet.

My favorite Taqueria in SJ since 2002. Their burritos are so yummy and their carne asada is the best. I love how they use fresh beans and avocado and don't put rice in their burritos. If you come here on a Saturday or Sunday, make you sure you order tacos with cabeza meat. They are one of the few taquerias that offer the tender and tasty meat.

I would pick this place over La Vics any day! That's because I don't like my burrito to be half carne asada / half greasy red oil.

Super Taqueria has really grown on me, though I'm not quite sure why.

Maybe because it's one of the cleanest burrito restaurants I've ever been in.  That helps.  And they have delicious super burritos with slices of fresh avocado, which is a nice touch.  Plus there's just something about their bean and cheese burritos that's irresistible.

The only thing that I can really complain about this place is that they don't serve chips (why??), which is all the more disappointing since they have a full salsa bar.  Still the food is good and very affordable, and it's a great place to stop by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

The first time I ever tried this taqueria I was majorly hungry. I didn't eat breakfast that day and I was craving Mexican food like no other. I usually go down to the Super Taqueria on White Rd. by Burger King but I was downtown so why not try that one?

I ordered a carne asada torta and I must say, that was one of the BEST tortas I've ever had. As corny as it sounds, I love the way it just melted in my mouth when I took the first bite. I didn't want to finish it.
The bad thing about the place is that the cashier was a bit rude.
At first, you know how they're supposed to be like, "Hi, may I help you?" or something similar to that, but when I approached her, she just stared at me like I was the cashier about to take her order. After I told her I wanted the torta, she immediately rang up the price and told me how much it costs without even asking me if I wanted anything to drink. So then when I told her I wanted a small soda, she rolled her eyes and she was like, "Do you want anything else?" in a rude kind of way.

Overall though, I think the food is great but I'd only go there if I was in dying need of something to eat.

A good ethnic restaurant is predominately caters to their own ethnicity. The best Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants I goto, English skills are lacking but so what?   If someone expects  "Good English Skills" I suggest going to Taco Bell in Iowa.

Great Mexican fast food. I love the fact that I can see my food being prepared. Ever since this location was renovated- the food is a lot better! They don't shiest me on the cheese like other taqueria's do- and they use slices of cheese, rather than shreds. I also really like the fact that I have a choice of either re-fried or whole beans.

The carne asada super taco with whole beans is a must for me every time! Make sure to dump a bunch of cilantro, onions, and lots of salsa verde on top! Without these condiments- the flavor of the meat is pretty bland. Fresh and juicy, but bland for my tastes!

*This review is for Super Taqueria in general

FOOD:
1.) Quesadilla w/ sour cream and avacado = MY FAVE type of quesadilla! And ONLY this place makes it like that, the way I like it ! They actually have whole slices of avacado. Anddd it's dirt cheap.
2.) Burrito = doesn't matter what kind. It sucks. Tasteless. ugh.
3.) Soft taco = sucks too. BLAurGh. totally disappointing after having SD Mexican food

SERVICE:
Eh, it's ok. You know how it is, minorities who can't understand or pronounce English, but act like it's your problem for not knowing what they're saying.

ATMOSPHERE:
Fast foody. Lots of Mexicanos lol. The murals are cool. And if you eat outside, you'll feel like you're really in Mexico.

The food is really good here. May I also add that the prices are great. A regular crane asada burrito is about 4 dollars. It gets quite busy during lunch time.

The staff is very friendly. However, one time I have an experience with bad service. Overall my impression is very good.

Also the location is ideal: about a 2 minute walk from SJSU.

This place is one notch above taco bell.  I went here for a year since it was the closest place to get a burrito where I live.

The only edible food has the beef in it, but even then I was often biting into huge pieces of tendon or fat.  Don't get me wrong, I love greasy Mexican food, but eating whole chunks of beef fat does not appeal to me.

It seems to me the appeal in this place is that is it watered down and not spicy and they put slices of avacado in a lot of the food.    I don't really like avacado and I like my Mexican food spicy.

I'll eat a carne asada quesadilla here in a pinch, but for everything else, walk across the street to Chalateco and have a much better meal.
