I am not a "super runner" just a regular chick who likes to pound the pavement every couple of days in hopes for a smaller waistline. I think I have sensative feet or just oddly shaped ones because running shoes often hurt me so I thought I'd try super runners b/c one of my friends swears by them.
My waistline and club feet aside for the moment and on to the review....
I've bought a couple of pairs of running shoes from super runners, then they did me wrong by suggesting a shoe that did nothing but cause me problems. Shin splits and ripped off toe nails. So I went to NY running company in time warner center who did me even more wrong after the "analysis" by selling me a $150 shoe that made my toes and balls of my feet numb. So I'm back to super runners in hopes for a running shoe that makes me happy.
The key to this store is getting the right sales person. Some of them know their stuff and listen to you when you explain what you want. Some of them just guess.
The last time, I went in three different times and got three different sales people and they all suggested the same shoe, which I ended up being happy with.
I also bought a sports bra there and the MALE salesperson says " that's a great bra, it lifts and separates and controls bounce really well" I should have said "oh really, and how do you know? do you have man boobs that I can't see?" But I was stunned by his first comment I just nodded and paid.
So this place gets 3 stars, for pretty good service, 1 star off for odd comments about my breasts or support of them, and 1 star off for the crappy hours they are open (they close before 7) and the running apparel they have is only for those damn "super runner" types, so I have to go else where to buy my casual runner shorts.

I went here last weekend in search of replacements for my old (emphasis on the old) reliable (not so much any more) Mizunos. I ran the Terry Fox 5k run for cancer reserach that morning and I figured that was an appropriate sendoff for the old girls.
I am not a really serious runner. I'm more of the 6-8 miles a week on the treadmill at the gym kind of guy. However I do recognize the benefits of proper athletic equipment ,and I vowed that this time I was going to go to a focused running store rather than buy what was pretty and onsale at some normal sneaker shop. I wanted to go to Jackrabbit sports on 14th which I had heard good things about, but it was too far so I hit up Super Runners on Amsterdam ave. instead.
The first thing I noticed was the surprisingly small selection of running shoes. They are all on one column instead of displayed over several walls like in most sporting goods stores. The shoes though were clearly more focused. No fashiony retro models here. I was helped by a thin brunette woman who managed to be incredibly helpful and comprehensive in her analysis of my stride and service while also helping three other people. I was truly impressed. She watched me walk and just started bring out shoes. Even when I said I liked a pair she brought me two more for further comparison. That was pretty unique for a shoe salesperson. They also encouraged me to run around the block to try the various models out. That was pretty nice considering I could have just run off. It turns out I have a lot of motion (not surprising my feet usually hurt after running) and I need some stability. They don't carry Mizunos, but after long deliberation I wound up going with an Asics model. Not the coolest design and they weren't a bargain per se, but they made a major difference when I tried running in them for real the next day. I went 1/4 farther than I normally go, and was significantly less fatigued and worn down afterwards. I would go with a 4 star rating here but given the great service I got under busy conditions and my satisfaction with my purchase, I will give them 5.
