Super buffet, AKA cheap  food in large quantities.

Have you ever been to Panda Express and was like, DAMN this all looks so good! I wish I can try a little bit of everything? (Seriously, some of my friends really do say shit like that) Well Super Buffet is for you!

Basically Panda style food in large, large quantities. Honestly, the food isn't too bad, it's just not good either.

The place has a Mongolian BBQ grill where you can dump your noodles and meat like the Great Kahn. It's free but really is it that good?

They have a sushi bar so you can eat all the sashimi and sushi you want... Which is good in all if you have no idea what sushi is suppose to taste like. Literally I think the chef was cutting cubes of tuna. The only reason why the cuts were so clean? The fish filet was still frozen...

Beer was cheap. We got a pitcher of Heinkenen for like $7 bucks.

I actually avoid eating here, but for some reason every time the old college friends eat some sandwich (throwout reference to How I Met Your Mother) they always clamor to eat SUPER BUFFEEEETTTT..........

so... yah, eat at your own risk.

I remember when this used to be Far East Buffet and it was semi-decent. As stated by another yelper "cheap food in large quantities" is definitely correct. I wouldn't even put this place above Panda Express - because at least with Panda Express, you know exactly what you're getting. Every bite you take here is a surprise.

Food tasted a bit old, overly greasy, and the seafood was far from fresh. The coconut macaroons and do-it-yourself noodle station were OK.

For the price and variety - especially with a large crowd of people - this is a good place to go to. Definitely kid friendly (our party of 20 plus had about 4 toddlers and they seemed to enjoy the laid-back atmosphere) and family friendly. They were able to accomodate us all in the side room and space was not an issue.

A bit understaffed - our drinks were never filled up once, but they were very friendly, otherwise.

I'd never go back here (and wouldn't have come had it not been the family's pick) and hesitate with many Chinese buffets here in San Diego, but for the price of about $12 pp, what do you expect?! :)

I've been here a few times and the 1st couple was actually OK.  I mean not wonderful but good enough.  The food was fine and since it is buffet we filled up just fine.  The service here is very good and friendly.  The last few times I was here, I just noticed the quality of the food falling.  The seafood is clearly not fresh.  I don't expect that at a buffet you get the freshest of fish, crabs, etc.  But it fish was very dried out and the shellfish was fishy.  We couldn't even finish the seafood.  Some of the other items like chicken and meat was better, but even that was fairly dried out.  That last time we went there, we actually asked ourselves...why did we come back here?

I like that is a big buffet and close to my home, but the quality at this point is enough that I wouldn't put this in my usual rotation of places.  Plus we found a really good buffet in PB area.

I do not plan on coming back here ever.

I went here a while back with a group of girls.  We were seated in a private room in the back.  All in all the food was okay until we got to the sashimi.  When I came home, the next day I found myself throwing up everything I was eating.  When talking to my other girlfriends who had food poisoning as well, we came to the conclusion that it was the damn SASHIMI!  That stuff was probably sitting out all day and went bad.

Bad sashimi = four girls ended up with nasty ass food poisoning

    Save yourself the trouble.

Service was good, food was meh, but the price was pretty cheap at $8.99 for lunch M-F. Had a good variety of fruits and desserts. Hot and sour soup was really gelatinous it was gross. Miso soup was okay though. They have a Mongolian grill which is cool. I think my favorite food was the honey chicken, but that was still okay. They do offer milk tea and thai tea for extra and smoothies with boba. The Thai was alright. Pretty big place, nice fountain with fish in it, inside, and you can grab some fortune cookies on the way out.

I've eaten here about a dozen times, and was never really disappointed.  They have a pretty good variety of entrees, desserts, and salads.  There are also some dim sum dishes, sushi, and eggdrop soup, and hot & sour soup.  There is also a bar.

I had my daughter's 1st birthday here, in the VIP room, which seats about 130 people.  During her party (4pm - 6pm), the workers were constantly refilling the food, so everyone got what they wanted.

There were an awesome variety of seafood - shrimp, crab legs, oysters, crawfish.

*i've heard from numerous people that the crawfish and coconut shrimp was AWESOME!

There were quite a few of us that stayed till 7pm, and they didn't kick us out.  The gratuity they charge for party is only 10%.  The buffet and drink was about $16.34/person.  I would've given this place 4 stars, but some of the tables weren't clean, and the napkin dispenser, salt & pepper shakers, and soy sauce bottle were sticky.  Eww!!!

All in all, the place is big, price is decent, food selection awesome, taste was decent...I'd definitely come back!

Other reviewers which gave it horrible ratings probably should've went to a casino buffet and paid more if they expected more.  They shouldn't be expecting high-end food for a low price.

For a buffet, it's pretty decent.  I made myself a plate of the (panda express) Chinese food which consisted of the orange chicken some friend rice green beans all the typical food you find at a chain Chinese restaurant.

However, they also had seafood.  I really enjoyed the crawfish crab legs and clams.  I always stay away from anything raw at a place like this so I did not try any of it.  For those who enjoy it though they have raw oysters and sushi.

They also had a Mongolian noodle station where you can pile up what you want and they stir fry it for you.

The servers were a little rude but they did a decent job clearing up the tables in a timely manner.

Dinner was $14.99.  Not too bad for the amount of food you can eat.

It's someone's birthday?  Chinese buffet time!!

In this instance.. it was my hubby's birthday and this is where we had the family dinner..

None of the food really struck me as worth eating.. I would circle the buffet several times before I decided to put something on my plate.. and that was only because I knew I HAD to eat.. not because I WANTED to eat it..

Nothing really stood out to me.. nothing was really bad.. but nothing was exceptionally good..

This place does get busy.. and it's got lots of seating for lots of people.

I just don't know if I would want to come back here by choice..

You would probably find yourself making your way down Miramar road for one of two reasons: Furniture shopping or cheap asian buffets. There's a descent amount of choices: lots of seafood, typical Chinese take-out dishes, a few dim sum items, sushi bar, and a mongolian grill. Everything is pretty salty and loaded with msg. I don't want to think much about the cleanliness of the place because quite honestly I'm afraid of what I'll probably find out... but I thought it was rather interesting (and distasteful) that they had a sign reading "eating raw seafood can result in serious illness or DEATH" posted right in front of the raw oyster bar.

So, at least they gave a disclaimer.

Im here on mothers day and boy is it crowded like disneyland. Trying to wait in line to get a certain item and bam, you get cut off by somebody and snatches your tongs before you can even blink. Haha. Obviously its crowded because of today only. Bang for your buck, 11 bucks for all you can eat chinese food. I don't eat a lot but if you're a fried chicken lover, the best item is the fried chicken wings.

Fried chicken wings@ just a little feathers, pluck em off. Nice and juicy and crispy.

String beans@ awesome flavor and crunchy

    Chicken and brocolli@ tastes good

Spicy chicken@ looks like kung pao but its not. Pretty tender

Pork dumplings@ I bite into these and chunks of hard tendons..

Sweet and sour chicken@ too dry

Fried shrimp@ taste like batter, no flavor

Tempura fried@ ummm, just carrots? Lol. No flavor

Chow mein@ average taste, its okay, soft noodles.

Garlic shrimp@ very balanced and taste good. Flavorful

The fruits were ok, some watermelon pcs were not sweet. Strawberries were a little sour, some were perfect.

All and all, its worth it for the price. One of the better chinese buffets I have gone too

Oh yay, Chinese buffet - the common way Filipinos celebrate birthdays!

Came here to celebrate my birthday with family and I approach Chinese buffets with a system.  I can eat fast, but usually only 2 full plates worth then maybe a few pickings here and there.

1st plate - little bits of everything such as all the beef, shrimp and chicken items, good serving of veggies to get them in the diet, a soup, and rice in a bowl to make it easier to eat with chopsticks.  Taste all the meats to determine what's the top 2-3.

2nd plate - Get more of the top meats, more soup, more rice and I get fairly full after this plate.

Final pickings - sesame balls, maybe another serving of meat, make some concoction of soft serve over Chinese donuts, and hot tea to help digest all the greasiness.

Overall, it's a consistent buffet and I know what to expect.  Selection is large which is key because only a couple things will be high enough in quality.

I never get sushi because I got sick somewhere and promised never to eat it at any Chinese buffet again.  I don't know how long that raw seafood has been sitting out.  Also, this last time I eat the oysters.  Had 4 of them and my stomach was cramping!!!  Mom gave my Imodium to help settle it down, thank goodness it didn't lead to a bathroom blowout episode!

Came here as a lame attempt for a Chinese new year dinner. It wasn't too bad but it wasn't great either. Quick description of some of the stuff I tried:

egg drop soup: pretty much flavorless. And it had corn in it which I thought was kinda weird:

hot and sour soup: it was okay but I've had better

crab legs: pretty decent. not bad. all the asians kept taking plate-loads of them so i was left with the small legs every time I went back for more haha

lo mein: better than i expected, but definitely not the best

salmon: a little hard to eat and a tad dry. but the flavor was not bad

oysters: pretty good. easy to eat. and they are huge!

muscle with mayo or whatever that is: it was okay...

fried chicken wing: still had feathers in it when i looked but when i tried a part of it, it wasn't too bad. but the feathers kinda creeped me out.

sushi: not very good. flavorless and usually i go for at least one plate of sushi when i go to buffets, but this one i felt like i could have skipped

ice cream: good. some buffet places have their ice cream too icy. so this actually tasted normal. the only downside was there was no toppings. only chocolate syrup.

dessert: normal desserts you would find at any chinese buffet.

price: $12.99 for weekday dinner. not bad for all you can eat.

I would probably come back if I was craving an asian buffet. They actually have a pretty decent selection of stuff and also a make your own noodle bar.

Its your typical chinese buffet. They have everything you want at a buffet. a little bit of this and that.

I like their cream cheese wontons, fried shrimp, dumplings and noodles. pass on the mongolian grill and hell no to the sushi. not a fan of raw sushi and definately not interested in getting sick from it.

Servers are kinda nosy, always within view of you and while your eating.
Not the kind of place you want to eat at all the time. Once a month or two should suffice. Anything more and you'll get sick of eating there.

New to San Diego area and was searching for a decent Chinese buffet. Bumped into this place along Miramar road.I knew I have this gut feeling but went ahead and took a table with my hubby and baby. COMMENT: Disgusting! Paid $38 for both of us......could have donated this money to that homeless guy we always pass by at an intersection. I was even thinking whether the food were prepared clean to begin with!  So, for people searching for reviews, pls don't take this comment for granted. We all went home feeling "robbed". That was a  bad choice. Oh, well...charge on experience! (bad experience).

I actually like this place better since they switched management from East Buffet. The food is pretty fresh for a buffet. It never feels like you get food that's prepared hours ahead of time and jsut sits there getting soggy. Only thing I don't go near there is the sushi. It was just okay and seeing as not much peopel go for it, who knows how long they sit out there.

No, this is not the best Chinese buffet i've ever been to but for San Diego this is one of the better ones. I've been to some really horrendous ones down here so they make Super Buffet look really good.

I got to this buffet because it's not too far away from home and they have fresh sashimi, sushi, and dim sum.

Some of the food looks a bit on the "I'm not sure if I should eat this" side, but over all it's pretty tasty.

Due to the fact that the other buffet place that I usually go to with my folks was packed due to a wedding, we ended up going to the "other" buffet on Miramar. This is the third time that I have been there and each time it gets worse and worse.

Today, after coming home I had the worst gas I have ever had. Like I was doubled over in pain gas. If OPEC contacted me, I could have supplied natural gas to them for many years kind of gas. I think it was from the garlic shrimp.

Molly said that when she went into the ladies restroom that apparently someone had taken a massive crap on the floor and rolled their feet in it. Typically you would find this in the men's room. But this wqas int he women's restroom. She felt ill.

Food was substandard at best. It basically all tasted the same.. like they made everything in a huge pot and basically hand sculpted other pieces of food out of the mass that was cooked.

I still feel like I could power at least a 3rd world country.. maybe the Philippines, with the amount of gas I have right now...

I went there to celebrate after passing the behind-the-wheel exam after 5 years of trying. Yes, I know, I got 4 driving permits, and I never had the gut to take the driving exam...The buffet had a lot of food selections, and my favorite station is the seafood section. They had my favorite oysters, crabs, and clams. Sushi were pretty fresh, sour and spicy soup were delicious. I like how they have a Mongolian grill station, where they cook pretty good stir-fry noodles.

We must have eaten for about 45 min, and there were two waitresses chitchatting in mandarin about how we sat there for a long time and how about how many pieces of oyster I've eatten (I ate five), and crab legs (~7). I think that was very rude...

After the meal, I thought I found my favorite buffet in San Diego. But no...I was mistaken...I came home having to sit on the toilet for 1 hour!! I had diarrhea from this place! Just to let you know, I have pretty good stomach and I never had a problem with buffet, and this was the first one that made my stomach sick!!!! I will never go there again! If you decide to go, make sure you buy some Imodium afterwards because you will get a bad stomach ache!

The green beans tasted like the lo mein,
The lo mein tasted like the egg rolls,
The egg rolls tasted like the fried rice,
The fried rice tasted like the deep fried crab legs,
The deep fried crab legs tasted like the beef with broccoli,
The beef with broccoli tasted like the egg flower soup, and
The egg flower soup tasted like everything else I just mentioned all put in one cup of blah.

Man, I was super hungry on Saturday, but Super Buffet didn't live up to it's superness.

Sorry Super.  I really wanted to super like you, but my meal super sucked, which made me super sad. ='(

Went here for my 86 year old uncle's after wedding lunch and was pleasantly surprised with how decent it was. Most 86 year old men don't have the greatest taste in restaurants, but now I see why my uncle picked it.
Huge selection of Chinese, sushi, Mongolian BBQ, dessert  items and even prime rib of all things. Funny thing though, you have to carve your own prime rib off the roast! The sushi was fresh and most of the Chinese items were above average for AYCE buffet style food. I didn't get to try the Mongolian BBQ because I was way too full to even attempt another plate.
Don't expect the greatest service though.  I don't think I saw even one waitress smile, but that is fairly standard at Chinese buffets.
Overall, good quality food and more than enough items to please everybody. I would repeat visit for sure.

Ohhhhhh Super Buffett, I really really wanted to like you because for one, my own mother treated the entire family for lunch to one of her "favorite" buffets after my son's First Communion.

Super Buffet, I like that it doesn't cost much to eat here.
Super Buffet, I like that you have a great selection of food for a small place.
Super Buffet, I like that you serve Oysters for lunch when so many Buffet places would serve it for Dinner.
Super Buffet, I like your indoor Koi Pond that distracts the kiddies.

What I don't like is that you made my husband and kids run to the bathroom 2 times because they ate something that didn't agree with their stomach. My youngest little chubby son was soo turned off he didn't want eat no more...not even dessert.

I didn't like that my sisters and their significant others putting on a brave face and smiling at our mom pretending that the food was good when secretly under the table, they were holding their stomachs in because they didn't want to use the bathroom either.

What did you guys put in the food?

I have to say, my stomach must have been made of steel because the only ones who were unfazed by it all was my mother, her best friend and her daughter, and myself. I thought the food was alright. I didn't have a stomach ache. I didn't puke. Actually, I thought your dishes were pretty good.....and that made me feel bad because as much as I wanted to taunt my family while I ate a plate of sashimi and oysters, I couldn't because that would be cruel. So cruel.

Next time, we're treating our mother to Onami's.

My seester, my seester's fiance Coriander, and I were in the process of completing the marathon drive from San Francisco to San Diego - we're driving southbound through Oceanside, and my dad calls.

Dad:  SON!  We go eat Chinese BOO-fett!  You come!  Bring my daughter!  And Coriander!
Me:  Ok, we're in Oceanside now.  How do we get there?  Where is it?
Dad:  Ok, so street called Meelamar!  But no exit Meelamar!  Go to La Joyra Veerage Drive, but go away from ocean!  Opposite direction, deeferent street name!
Me:  Ok I got it, what's the intersection?  Miramar and what?
Dad:  I duh-no, but NEAR Audi dealer, and Sherl Gas Steh-tion.
Me:  I'll call you if we're lost.
    Dad:  Be safe.

We get there.  Before I see my family, I eye the buffet.  Ok - even if it is a buffet, it doesn't look very good.  Under the heat lamp is fake crab meat covered in cheese (even to ME that doesn't sound appetizing), "Asian Prime Meat Stick" which looks like it's supposed to be prime rib, crab rangoon, lemon chicken, and other delicacies which I like to refer to as the "Original Asian Fusion."  But dang, there are HELLA Chinese people up in here.  There must be something I don't know.

I find my family.  Oh my god, my dad's wearing SEAN JOHN.

Me:  Hey Daddy, you're wearing SEAN JOHN.
    Dad:  Ya!  So cool-luh, hhuh?
Me:  Well, you know what the cool kids call it today?
Dad:  Wha?  What dey call me?
Me:  No no, they say that it's "street".
Dad:  Wha?  Dey say I streep?  No streep!  I no streep!  HAHAHAH.

Anyways, after more greetings, I am finally able to head over to inspect the buffet.  And it catches my eye.  I walk over.  Ahhhhh, I get it.  Hella crab legs.  HELLA.  THAT's why all the Chinese people are up in here.  But the steam table is empty.

Suddenly, there is a hush among the room.  I hear whispering... "crab..."  "pong xie...." "crab leg..."  "pong xie lai le..."  The kitchen door opens, and the man brings a whole new stack of crab legs out.  The Chinese all start collectively running towards the steam table, like a moth to a flame.  I'm in the very front though, so I feel I can take them.  They're all like 4 feet tall anyways.  I arm myself.  I will come out of here with a plate full of crab legs and make my family proud of me!

Oh god, they're swarming!  I can't breathe!~  They're like Oompa Loompas!  Someone just stuck a chopstick in my eye!  That little old grandma kicked me in the nuts!  That kid's BITING me!  WHO'S THROWING ELBOWS?!  Stop pushing!  Someone smells like mentholatum!  NO SCRATCHING!  AHHH!!!!  GET ME OUT OF HERE!

I went back to my table, with some pork siu mai and chow mein.  As I return to my seat, my family looks at me, sans crab legs, and two grandpas, two grandmas, my dad, and my mom all nod their heads in disapproval and shame.  I ruined Christmas.

I came here before a couple of years back and thought this place sucked.  The service was crappy and the staff was unfriendly.  What a surprise that this place has changed since that time.  My sis-in-law tells me that this place is under new management (or ownership... can't remember which).

I was starving as my wife just ran the half marathon (yes, I have sympathy pains) so I decided to fill up.  I always get all selective when I go to Chinese buffets so I look for a few things.  One in particular was salmon sashimi and they had it.  I loaded up my dish with it and I loved it.  It was nice & tasty.  I also tried the Saba (Mackerel) sashimi, which was surprisingly tasty as well.  Other things I liked: Lobster cooked with ginger & green onions, pepper chicken, teriyaki chicken (although a bit too fatty), broccoli, green beans, coconut shrimp.

Food I didn't care for: chow mein (disappointing since it looked good), salmon sashimi after they take it out of the freezer when the plate that is out there is empty, stuffed crab/scallop thingy (it was stuffed with too many things).

Overall, I'd go with 3.5 on this one.  The service was also not bad as they came around with water enough times to fill my glass up every time it was empty.

    UPdate 12/29:
What was I thinking?  Okay, I thought it was exactly the same as it was when it was called East Buffet.  But it's worse!!! My son went to the fresh noodle station and found mold in the noodles.  And all they had to say was "sorry"!  "SORRY"?  A prompt refund would have been in order.  My son ran to the bathroom and puked. Poor guy!  I wish I could give this place a negative one star.

UPdate: 12/13, This place has been renamed AGAIN to SUPER BUFFET.  I would like to meet someone who can tell me if it is in fact, SUPER.  Because no business should call themselves "Super" if they are not.

"SQUIT" means "squid" here. Apparently they changed their name to ACME Buffet. Do these people realize that ACME makes people think of dynamite and Wiley Coyote?  Or, POISON!!!

EAT here--then...KA-BOOM!  your ass blows up?  I'm not sure if it is the same ownership. I was going to try it and find out for myself but the lack of cars in the parking lot around 7-ish on a Thursday night made me get back into my car.

ummmmm, yeah.... don't even bother coming here.

This place USED to be good (back in the East Buffet days.. 4 stars). But now, their food is disgusting. I came here 2 Sundays ago.. and

    - Their crawfish was not fresh..
    - Their crab meat was powdery..
    - honey walnut shrimp is covered in fake mayo
    - crab legs were waaaaaay too salty and they ALWAYS ran out
    - sashimi tastes like... decomposed fish
    - most of their strawberries were either bruised up or almost rotten.
    - it is watermelon season and their watermelon is not even sweet. WTF?!?

    - 1 star for their cream cheese wontons & pot stickers & sweet soy sauce

Don't waste your money.. stay home and eat instant noodles.

Spicy... the place is A ok , nothing out of the ordinary they have shrimp , crab legs , beef or chicken and broccoli ect... along with the usual stuff you can find in a buffet. If you're hungry this place is ok, I have had better that's why I am giving them 3 out of 5 stars.

Friday Night, can't eat meat, auntie's bday so where do we go??

Super Buffet!! aka East Buffet aka New name Same food!!

I used to eat here when this place was called East Buffet (filipinos love buffets!!...prolly the only ones u will see pull out a ziplock bag to bring home some food!!) They changed the name but everything else stayed the same.

Came here for my aunties bday. "Let's try Super Buffet!!" they said, acting like it was the newest, hottest buffet spot to hit up. (not realizing there was nothing new or "Super" about the place)

Sat down at our table (which was very sticky..like sticky icky oooweee)
I sat by the wall and immediately felt a breeze by my ear (turned around and there was a hole in the wall!!...almost "glory hole" status..kinda grossed me out..gf said "don't look in the hole, might get poked!??") Anywayyy, ordered my arnold palmer and decided it was time to get my grub on!!

Since I couldn't eat meat I settled for the seafood. Not a bad variety...ate my crab legs, shrimps, some mixed seafood concoction. Passed on the frog legs (like always...not daring enough to try them...heard they taste like chicken??)

Hit up the little "make your own noodles" station. That was prolly the best thing i ate. Tasted fresh (since Iron chef Matsumoto cooks it right there in front of you)

Desserts were ehh...enjoyed some fresh cut fruit...called it a night.

Like I said..nothing "super" about this buffet....only thing super was me leaving with a SUPERsized belly =/   (but that always happens when i eat at buffets...always gotta get my monies worth!!)

    TWO WORDS: CUBE STEAK....

Being on a healthy diet, it sometimes is tough to try to figure out what to eat when you go out to eat.  Plus being Filipino, my parents always want to do buffet!  Well, this place has the best of both worlds when you can eat their CUBE STEAK dish!  It is PHENOMENAL!  Especially on top of a bed of lettuce and some Italian vinaigrette dressing!  IT'S THE SHIT!  (Sorry, it's really good and I REALLY like the cube steak entree!  It may not be as healthy but it hits the spot!)

Also when it comes to dessert, the best thing to have when you have devoured a whole buffet and just want something a little sweet, their frozen yogurt is DELICIOUS!

I would definitely suggest this place if you have a HUGE family and want to take them to a clean buffet that has a ton of variety!  Next time you go, you might just see my family there!

I had a coupon for a free drink with each buffet. I went there tonight, valentines day [I am a romantic] and they would not take the coupon! In fact, they had jacked up the price of dinner as well. When a place does this sort of thing, it always feels like they are subtly trying to tell me to F$%$ OFF.

The carpet is covered in food and paper scraps. See my photos for a sample.

The food is gross. People keep talking about the frog legs - they were heavily salted, and salt was the only flavor. The crab is fried in the shell... it tastes nasty.

The only thing decent here was the mongolian grill. And it was not great, just average.

The sushi was horrible. It is dry and the fish has the wrong flavor. "What does 'wrong flavor mean?'" Well, imagine a piece of good sushi, then take the fish and rub it on the dirty kitchen floor. Let it sit on the floor for an hour or two, then serve it.

In the end, I'd say go somewhere else. They don't care about the customer - just the dollar.

    It's really not that super.

I can't say much more than that because it's sometimes average, sometimes below average... and it's a buffet.

I think they should rename it Mediocre Buffet.

I have not been here for a good couple years or so but I can say this place is not the best Chinese buffet joint in SD!

They also claim to be the "biggest buffet in SD" in their ads and I completely disagree.  I mean the food is decent and you can never go wrong with the pricing for an all-you-can-eat place.

They have some selections that some of you migth think is weird.  Last time I went my friend ate some fried frog-legs and thought it was chicken and ate a quite a few pieces.
He was like "How come the bone looks all weird in this chicken?".  I just started cracking up and told him "cuz it aint chicken man" LOL!  I have no problem eating frog legs but he felt super digusted at the fact that it was a frog's leg.

Anyways this place is ok but not a buffet I would go to on a regular basis.

    Yelp said don't do it.

My wife said, "Let's go to lunch."

Who are you going to obey?

So we walk in the door at noon on a Thursday. First thing I notice: That's a weird place for a video game. Next thing I notice: Hunh. the host is pinky picking his nose. Um, so you think I am Not going to notice your finger in your nose?

Third thing I notice: there are a Lot of Asian people in here. REAL Asians, speaking their native tongues. Which only goes to show...

As soon as you step off the boat, you lose all sense of taste.

Gads. This place was terrible. I piled my plate with the many seafood options; sushi rolls, talapia, salmon, crab, shrimp. One bite of each made me afraid for the integrity of my intestinal lining.

I tried the orange chicken. It was okay. So was the salt and pepper chicken. The egg flower soup tasted like water. And the wontons seemed, somehow, Unfried.

Pretty much Everything I tried was flavorless. Even the bananas in the dessert section. Is it cheap? Eight bucks ain't bad for all you can eat. Is it cheap? I went away hungry, so No.

    -------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------

In the interest of those who questioned my 3 stars; I didn't try Everything, and there is a Lot to choose from. I might have somehow only been drawn to the crappy food....admittedly, seafood at a buffet is not usually a good choice.

Have you ever seen that youtube video where they catch the rat and prepare it, then cook it up and make it look like some Asian chicken? Well I have. And as my experience tonight would have it, I couldn't get that video out of my head.

I was never really sure what I was eating. Some of it was good. Some of it was ok, and some of it was very "suspect".

My main regret was not trying out the Mongolian BBQ side of things.

The strawberry sauce covered bananas were the highlight.

If you come here expecting gourmet fair, forget it. It is a buffet, and its a chinese buffet at that.

But for a sort of food snob, I actually like this place. The selection is so vast. Seriously, its like they have a little bit of everything. From seafood, mongolian grill, sushi, and even hot pot.

I admit, a lot of the hot entres look really gross to me. I am not sure what it was supposed to be. I will however, admit I am a hogger of the crab legs. For some reason, whenever Im near the crab table, its empty but like 2 seconds later, the lady comes out with a fresh batch. And of course, I pile my plate high. Ive stopped to wonder if I really even like eating crab legs all this much. But who cares, the suckers behind me were to slow.

As for the other stuff, I like the dim sum and I love the hot and sour soup. The also have this gross looking shrimp in a cream sauce, but its really good. I also like their mongolian grill. They have so many choices of meats and seafood to put in it. I always like the korean style ribs.

So yeah, I come here on occasion. It is what it is. massive quantities of ok food.

I could've gone to Sunrise Buffet.  I could've gone to VIP Oriental Buffet.  Hell, I could've even gone to Savory Buffet.  But no... I had to go to Super Buffet to feed my Chinese fix.

Located in the old Acapulco location across from MCAS Miramar, this place has gone through several different name changes over the years... all while offering the same kind of food.  Unfotunately, the type of Chinese food they've offered just isn't appetizing.  Vegetable egg rolls (yet again), fried rice that just doesn't look fried enough, overcooked tofu, overcooked potstickers and shu mai, hot and sour soup that's not that hot, chicken feet and frog legs (which I've had before - not that memorable)... blecch.

The salad and fresh fruit bar is not worth mentioning, especially since the "fresh" pineapple was quite salty, and the jicama was VERY dry.

Not just that, the dining area needs a LOT of improvement.  Outside of the VIP area, the carpet needs a good cleaning, and it's quite cramped inside.  Also, even though my drink was regularly filled, the servers didn't bother to put ice in my glass after the initial visit to my table.

The only reasons Super Buffet didn't get my first one-star review are the Mongolian grill, the sushi bar, and the dessert bar.  The grill offers different items to have cooked with your noodles (beef, chicken, or shrimp - though the shrimp looked like it's been out a while, so be careful with that), and when they say that the grilling sauce is spicy, it really is!  The sushi's just okay (different variations on the California roll, but the shrimp and tuna sashimi were delicious).  And, the dessert bar had some really delicious cream puffs and what looked like Filipino hopia (mung bean cakes)that were tasty.

But, the bad outweighs the good in this case.  Overall, I won't be coming back to Super Buffet unless I absolutely need to (i.e., family occasions).

East Buffet reminds me of how a good venue goes bad, or a great club turns into a teenagers playground.

Back in 2005, it was THE Buffet place in town. It's big, its got a full bar, (Yes a full bar, not those 'Beer & Wine' crap) a friendly bartender, the Sushi that were fresh and tons fo seafood.

Today, east buffet is like an old frat house --- Understaffed, unclean, waterdown drinks, yesterday sushi & pissed off waiters.

    Great places come & go...

I like this buffet. The food is normal, nothing different or spectacular. I hate how you have to pay extra for drinks at every asian buffet.

One time I ate here with my cousins and when we were getting ready to leave, one of the waitresses was waiting for us and looking if we were going to leave a tip, I don't think we should tip at buffets.

The buffet isn't super, there isn't much to choose from.

You know that place... that becomes a tradition... but you just know why?? That's Super Buffet for me! I used to live on the Mirmar base and we'd ALWAYS go here! and now, whenever I come back to base, I MUST dine here!

It's not that great... it's not that well staffed... the food isn't that good... and its crazy expensive... but DAMNIT I must come!! lol!!

What I LOOOOOVE about this place is that it has everything! It has salads, hot pots, sushi (made to order!), exotic dishes I only poke at with tongs before loading up on the sweet and sour (cuz I'm a wuss like that) and the hits and misses of my childhood of americanized chinese food.

ONE dollar can get you a PLATE full of sushi! Smile at the sushi chef, throw in your dollar and guaranteed she'll stop you and ask you what you want. Name it. I love tuna and salmon nigiri and she'll make me a plate full each and everytime! Once she made me a tamaki as a qute parting gift on my way out (awww)!

The rest of the food... is eh. however! the fried shrimp is AWESOME! I must get that and the coconut shrimp is good too! So is the cube steak dish and the egg rolls are good if they're fresh. I dont' think its worth the $15 in all honesty unless you're going to eat nothing but sushi.

I say... stick to what you know will be good... and be sure to tip the sushi chef and give the mongolian bbq a try!
