I want to start by saying that this is my first yelp review...yeah...sad to say I got inspired by a bad experience by my favorite place to stay. I have loved coming to the grove park inn for years, if I am in Asheville I always stop by.
So my father and I where in town for the night and decided to stay at one of our favorite places, we were hungry and it was such a nice night that we agreed on eating at the sunset terrace restaurant because we have never ate there. Short story it is a great place to socialize and see the scenery but bad bad bad food. I'm sure there are other things on the menu that are awesome but what I had was terrible and even when I said something, which I never do because I am a chef myself, no one did anything about it; the waiter gets his gratuity no matter what anyway! -

Not as good as I remember. Times are tough so I'll give them an extra star.

Views: A+. Food: Not too tasty. Go ahead and try this place, but don't assume the food will be good. I stayed at the Grove Park Inn over the weekend, and that's the only excuse I have for eating at the Sunset Terrace twice. Friday night, my husband ordered the pork tenderloin, which was so dry he called it "puck-like" and complained to the manager about it. He waited until after dinner to complain because he knew fixing it would result in us waiting to get another piece of meat and we were very hungry. When he complained to the manager the manager said something like "but it's organic meat." All the more reason not to over-cook it! I ordered the gemelli puttanesca, which was terrible. It was advertised as gemelli pasta tossed in "sundried tomato/olive tapenade." Sounds good, right? Wrong. Tasteless. Where was the basil?
The next day, for lunch, I ordered the hummus and veggie wrap. I didn't eat the whole thing. It was a large tomato tortilla with a practically undetectable dollop of hummus and some random vegetables on top (like whole grape tomatoes). The fries were good. My husband got the steak salad. It looked ok except for the large quantity of french fries on top of the salad. I had to laugh.
Get your act together Sunset Terrace! -

This restaurant is all about the view. On a clear day you sit outdoors and can see the mountains. It's fabulous. Take your out of town friends.
The food is very mediocre and expensive. But it's still worth it.
Good wine list.
View to die for. -

Yeah, It's a 5 star view, with 3 star food, 1 star pricing (ouch$) and good service. We went for the view and I guess that's why I'm A-OK with the Grove Park Inn Sunset Terrace because it did not disappoint. BTW, the gazpacho soup for an appetizer was the tastiest thing at our table. Very good.

This is the most beautiful restaurant in town. Period.
Located on the front Terrace of the Grove Park Inn, SST serves lunch and dinner daily. From the porch, you can enjoy a beautiful view of downtown and the Blue Ridge Mountains. They specialize in steaks and seafood. The salmon is amazing.
It's $40-60 per person, but it's completely worth it.
Lots of people get engaged on the Terrace as well. -

First visit to the Grove Park Inn went very well. Ate at the Sunset Terrace and was pleased. I had the scallops that were very good. My wife's filet mignon was good and cooked to order. The side dishes were good, asparagus and mashed potatoes, and were very largely portioned. We did not have dessert as we were both stuffed. Service was prompt and attentive. Price was about what you would expect, especially considering its location inside the Grove Park.
