Right in the middle of West Hollywood's hustle 'n bustle lies this oasis of comfort. I would go back in a heartbeat. Why? For starters, the suites are well desgined (earthy colors, stylish furniture) and spacious. Staying in a place that's bigger than your apartment simply is a good starting point. Some of the other goodies are a big pool, nice semi-outdoors bar, and beautiful gardens. And finally, the people working here are friendly, attentive, without acting like humble servants. Which overall makes you feel more than a guest. It makes you feel at home, even if only for a little while.

The hotel is located in a neighborhood, so the area is fairly quiet.

The spacious rooms are in need of a renovation, as the furniture and the room is showing her age.

The bed are ultra comfortable, along with the 6 king size pillows.

Service is really friendly and helpful.

As a business traveler though, the worse part of the room is the shower head.  Lack of water pressure and stream makes for a longer shower.  I felt like I had to move around a lot and underneath the water flow to wash and rinse.

For these upscale "trendy" boutique properties, I would think that showerheads would be better.  Unfortunately, water pressure and shower heads are a deal breaker during my review, so they lose a star.

If you end up eating in their restaurant for dinner, get the beautifully presented Cesar salad and the amazingly delicious silken, melts in your mouth sea bass.

Finally, if you see any celebrities just remain calm and be cool about it.  Leave them alone, as they deserve their privacy, just as much as you do.

I just returned from the Sunset Marquis for a double bachelor party, one of them mine. We had a two room Villa. I will not expound upon the activities because it will make me vomit and shiver. All you need to know:

-"Impossibly luxurious" is an understatement.
- The staff was incredible and gracious, even to a bunch of unleashed maniacs such as our party
- Incredible location right on Sunset, but so secluded that you could be on a Carribbean island
-Celebs galore, and Sookie Stackhouse is a total smokeshow

Of course it is expensive, but they are so well equipped to do anything for you at anytime, and do it with a wink and a smile.

I will never stay at the Mondrian again,  or really anywhere else in Hollywood. I would be as comfortable with my son and wife as I was with the team of professional monsters i was just with.

Sunset Marquis, thank you, and Im sorry

This place almost got five stars from me because once when having lunch here, I ran into Hall & Oates!  Yes, that Hall & Oates.  Maneater, I Can't Go For That, Rich Girl, you know the hits!

I usually don't like this part of town but this hotel is great.  I sometimes have meetings here and have enjoyed many a cocktail at the bar.  I've never stayed here myself, but have recommended it to friends and work associates many times.  A little known fact is that they offer free wifi to anyone who asks.  Just ask a receptionist for a number.

Still top notch....due to an influx of tennis players we were not able to get into a villa this time...but the suites are still nice....not nearly as nice as the villas, but if I had never been to the villas, Id never think they were bad....the only real complaint I had was the shower randomly turned off...and the minibar filler was overzealous and up early, but everyone is very nice, I love the location, the pools are beautiful....I will of course, be back

Beautiful, well kept, recently upgraded property.
Grounds are very nice
We didn't get to try the restaurant
Staff was attentive
Pools were nice w/ lounges/towels available.
Large - bedroom/bath off main living area.
Wetbar w/ fridge & liquor cabinet
Our room had small (but usable) balcony off bedroom
Fun photos on walls of various musicians that have recorded/partied there.

Downside:
- No ice machine - must call room service if you want ice
- No Coffee Maker - I brought my own coffee
- "basic" TV lineup (no Versus: Tour de France).
- Wireless internet - $12/day

We certainly want to go back and try a villa....

Definite GREAT place to stay!  We stayed here over the weekend (Oct 10-13, 2008) and will definitely come back.  You can really feel like you're away from it all.

Stayed in a Junior Villa (got during a promoter deal so about $450 rather than usual $1k) - spacious comfortable room and large, large bathroom. The staff is very friendly - always greeting you with a smile and hello.  The room comes with a bose system but didn't have the cable to connect an iPod, they immediately provided another system to accommodate.  The grounds are gorgeous and having breakfast on the patio is a delight - can just take your time enjoying the view and company.  They also will make adjustments to meet your breakfast wishes.

We also checked out the Bar 1200 which is warm and cozy.  Lots of cool people to meet and we ended up hanging out with a large party until closing.

Also had one night dinner at The Room - the food was very nicely prepared.  I had the Burrata with Heirloom Tomato salad (delicious and large, I couldn't finish) and followed that with the Main Lobster (very nicely done though the carved potato filled with Spinach didn't add anything, not much flavor).  My bf had their baby greens salad (again, very good but also quite large) and followed that with the boneless rack of lamb (delicious and disappeared off his plate quite fast).  The whole evening we accompanied our dishes with Veuve Cliquot and ended with the Chocolate "lava" cake (I can't remember what they called it but it was your typical lava cake - I would recommend trying one of their other desserts).

There are 2 pools, one with cabanas.  The gym is small but has all the necessary equipment (stationery bike, elliptical, universal, free weights).  Their Spa is now open but we didn't have time to try any of their services.

The location of it is a definite plus.  It was nice just walking out the door down Robertson or up to Sunset for shopping or dining.  And easy to get our car to drive to nearby places (Nobu just 10 mins, etc.).  You will definitely see and/or meet interesting people staying here.

Although I have never stayed there, this is my favorite place for a Sunday brunch with your besties. The bloody mary's are OTW. And the people watching is Great. The outside restaurant is perfect for a casual afternoon lunch or like i said Sunday brunch. One bad thing- the food is not that great, and it's SO expensive for casual eats. But once you have one of their bloodies, you won't mind.

The bar the whisky is the best place to have a post-work day drink. Dark and smokey. One of my favorite spots to spend time with my friends.

The place is nicely renovated, when you walk back toward the villas you feel like you're in Santa Barbara.  You feel like you're on a vacation from LA.  The new restaurant, which hasn't opened it has a great outdoor patio and the upstairs pool is private and also really nice surrounded by cabanas.

I spent my time around the pool downstairs off the lobby...and no complaints, service is great, the food was good, oh and Kanye and Baron Davis walked by...

I haven't actually STAYED in the Sunset Marquis (I wish), but thanks to a handy business partnership I've had the opportunity to tour all the rooms and enjoy a free meal at the delicious restaurant.  First, the rooms are absolutely gorgeous.  The smallest are the junior suites, and even those are as large as a small studio apartment, with spacious bathrooms, half kitchens, and a private balcony (every room has one).  They have rooms in the main hotel as well as the villas, which are currently undergoing major renovations.  For the next year or so the construction means that guests can count on a fair amount of noise during the day, but once everything is finished this hotel will be exponentially more gorgeous than before.

My meal at the restaurant was also superb.  They have a small but tasty selection of appetizers, and an extremely extensive breakfast and lunch menu (I haven't seen the dinner options).  My two companions and I each got salads, and they were all totally amazing.  Mine was the seared ahi tuna salad, and boy was it delicious.  They also have a fantastic crme brule, and a tasty chocolate lava cake (not as good as the one at Roy's, but noteworthy nonetheless).  The prices are a little on the high side, but that's to be expected at a hotel like this.  Also, the poolside atmosphere can't be beat.

Minus one star for the fact that I'll never be rich enough to stay here.

So far, my favorite hotel in West Hollywood. In the area, I've seen the Best Western and Argyle/Sunset Towers. I've stayed at the Bel Age and the Mosaic. Below par.

But the Marquis! Fabulous, personable service, a well-staffed concierge desk, huge rooms, lovely decor, a bit dark but in a sultry way. The rooms aren't dark at all. Very large bathrooms, marble, large counters and mirrors.

So-so closet space, the jr. suites have the armoire sitting literally on one corner of the bed (awkward spacewise), the bathroom vents blow into the shower which make showering a bit of a pain, weak shower flow,.

Two televisions, mod decor, huge dining table (great for doing paperwork/sharing meals with friends), large banquette/bar with a separate bar sink, hidden away fridge, etc., and a kind little refreshment to greet you when first check in.

Beds are VERY hard, wireless internet slow (they say they're  working on it), beds come with limited blankets. Not good on a cool night, so be sure to call up for extra blankies.

Staff is very nice, very handsome valets and delivery boys, sometimes concierges seem a bit reluctant to do the extra work unless you're mean to them (I hate having to do that). Room requests are quickly and pleasantly answered.

There's a parking garage for $10 a day up the block, but the road's not a through-way so you'd have to drive around. Nightly parking = $37 a night I believe, super expensive.

Pool is smallish, I think they're renovating it and the poolside restaurant. Once I entered the bar late on a weekend night and there wasn't a brown person to be seen. I'm used to this, but don't prefer it. All that paleness makes me dizzy. Everyone looked shocked and peeved at the sight of two brown girls, so we swiftly drank our beverages and vacated.

Room service - menu flavors leave much to be desired. Needs expansion and a more creative touch, especially given the prices. You're better off saving a meal in-room for a really late night out that requires carbs to soak up booze, or a very lazy expensive morning meal in.

Overall, I'm always willing to try out other hotels but am always disappointed. Sunset Marquis isn't perfect, but they get the basics right, and clearly are happy and ready to serve you well.

I haven't been here since the renovation (pictures look great, BTW) but even before then, this place has such an atmosphere.  Maybe because you know there's a lot of history here.  First came one afternoon to check it out and sit by the pool and have a drink.  Saw Roger Daltrey come out to the pool area with an associate and they were talking and smoking.  I was in disbelief but kept my mouth from gaping and minded my business.  It was a nice afternoon.  Some time later, tried the bar in the evening and it was very chill yet upscale, beautifully decorated, and comfortable.  The vanilla martini I had was expensive but it was a really cool place to hang out.  Tried to come back another time (they must have had more celebs here at the time or something) and the doorman wouldn't even let us set foot in the place, he rudely asked if we were staying there and when we said no, we just wanted to go to the bar for a bit, he said "guests only" and turned us away.  I think they do have some sort of power trip from what I've read on other reviews.  If I was in the area and I didn't see Mr. Nasty out there again, I'd come back at night (maybe), but I most enjoyed sitting out at the pool, having a drink and relaxing in the serene and quiet environment.  Haven't stayed here, but if I had an occasion to and could afford it, would I?  Definitely, over other choices in the area.

If you need to stay in the area, this is the place I'd stay. Service was solid and the room was great (a 1bd suite). I'd highly recommend it for special occasions or for a much needed weekend away. Close to shopping and nightlife. Great bar downstairs that kicks up late night as well.

Superb service! From the valet dude to the belldude, they were excellent. They remembered my name after the first night. I stayed there for a week. My one bedroom suite was absolutely gorgeous!  I also received amenties upon arrival/departure. By far, my favorite in the area.

We had stayed at this hotel several years ago and it is pretty much the same. The one exception is they have expanded and have built additional villas. Over the course of the three nights we were here the service was always right on. On both visits their was zero noise from any other rooms. A call to the valet and our car was always ready and waiting. One evening we were tired from too much running around and had room service. Everything was tasty and it was great having a dining table right in our room. The bar is very cozy and the lighting just right with plenty of candles for added ambiance. About the only negative was the bathroom as it was a bit small for this level of accommodations. If your looking to stay in West Hollywood I think this is the best bet for location and service.
