4 stars for the beer selection alone!

Amazeballs.

The food is decent.  My friend had some kind of a pita melt, which he loved.  My boyfriend had chicken on a stick (that was fun), and I have the buffalo chicken nachos.  I made the mistake of ordering the full portion, thinking the two, grown men in my party would help.

And then the plate came out and I realized that we could feed an army with those nachos.

Nachos = 1, Me = 0

Overall, the beer was good & the food was good.

Before I begin, I have to admit my bias here...as an alum of Boston University, I'm pretty sure I've been somehow brainwashed into unconditionally loving Sunset Cantina. Just let me.

Sunset is a great place to go with a large group of friends...it's a fun atmosphere and everyone will find something they want on the menu (I swear it gets bigger every time...I had to type it up once for an advertising project and I remember it taking hours). My faves are the Shrimp 'N Boat Enchilada and the Shrimp Po Boy. And, of course, the Buenos Cheese Nachos, which Arestia has already proclaimed our addiction for (Although, be warned...two people cannot eat the entire full order. I've tried. A lot).

There's a huge selection of beer (for even more, check out Sunset Grille & Tap up the street in Allston) and the margaritas are always a safe bet. The obvious downfall for Sunset is the service. Don't EVER go if you are in any sort of hurry...it will not end well for you. But if you are looking for a chill night with your friends, head down to Sunset, order the Buenos Cheese Nachos, extra sour cream, jalapeños on the side, and dig in!

I went here for a get together with a pretty large group of friends and although only half the party showed on time they were very accommodating. We were able to be seated and order drinks and apps before the rest of the party arrived and then when everyone did we were able to be seated together at a big table and all have dinner together. Pretty tall task with how busy they were that night but were still super nice and were able to get everything together.

The atmosphere is definitely fun and they have a huge selections of beer, which is always a plus. I love the variety of the menu and our meals were all huge and so good.

The location is excellent especially with a large group of people coming from different places. Anywhere off the T is usually a good thing and the neighborhood around it is appealing too. They even have parking in the back, a bonus in my mind anyday.

I'll definitely be back, probably for the same type of occasion. And this time I'll take advantage of the variety of beers, which I mistakenly didn't do at my last visit.

I'd call sunset grill a solid 4 star place and maybe even a five star on some nights but Sunset Cantina doesn't quite stack up. The tequila selection and margarita menu here is impressive (not as impressive as 112 beers on tap with 500 bottled but still impressive). The problem with Cantina is their consistency.

I frequent Sunset Cantina more because it was closer to where i lived. Sometimes the food is good, sometimes is average, sometimes is it comes out cold. You play a game of roulette when you eat here, you never know what's going to end up in front of you.

The best things on the menu are the ribs and the burgers. Maybe this is because they are the hardest to screw up. The atmosphere is fun here and its definitely a great group place. Win the trivia on tuesday nights and get a $35 gift card.

Oh, and don't forget to order the dessert Nachos!

Almost exactly the same as Sunset Grill and Tap, with two big differences:

Mind blowingly huge tequila menu instead of likewise beer menu (+1)

Worse food. Same menu, but they must have their "junior" cooks working here or something. (-1)

That said, I still love this place on the weekdays. Just not as much as Sunset Grill and Tap. Go here, and develop a taste for tequila. Or drink too much tequila and be completely unable to drink it again. Whichever.

So I had been to Sunset Cantina few times before last night- however I decided to hold off on reviewing until I turned 21 and could try a frozen margarita :) I feel like making a pro/con list.

+ Extensive food and drink menu. Plenty of vegetarian options.
+ Some interesting decorations
+ HUGE portions. You could probably share a "half" order of nachos with a medium sized country.

- Service can be good sometimes but when I went on Saturday we waited FOREVER for a server and then into eternity for the simple order of Nachos and two drinks...and we waited a long time for the check. Also my friend asked for a water and they forgot to bring those until asked again...
- All the cheese/ grease seems awesome at the time but your stomach will probably hate you for it the next morning.

Overall it isn't my first choice on a Saturday night but I can see why people like it and I will probably be back with friends at some point.

I got delivery from this place (Dining In) and it was horrible. They got my order wrong and when I contacted Dining In they stated that it was the mistake of the restaurant. I got two tacos with beef. I specifically asked for hard tacos but I got soft ones. The meat itself was horrible tasting and had a sweet taste to it instead of a spicy tone.  The nachos weren't anything to write home about either. I won't order from here again.

This is a great spot for late night grub and game nights.  They have a great selection of beer, tequila and B.U girls!  The mixed drinks are weak,  I felt like I was drinking soda or kool aid.  The Pulled Pork Nachos might be the best nachos ive ever had.  House corn chips piled high with cheese, pulled pork, chili peppers and more cheese!  As far as entrees goes its under par.    They have a bunch of margaritas that are made with high end tequila costing up to $50.00 per drink...I personally think that's stupid! Anyone who orders high end tequila should drink it neat! Mr. AsomBroso would have a heart attack!

Cheers

I had my first dinner as a temporary Boston resident here.  Was part of a bigass group of peeps, but went ahead with 4 others.  Before we headed out, I checked this place out on Yelp--listed under "Mexican."

We were seated promptly after I warned the staff that about 25 more folks were arriving after us.  Our group of 5 were able to avoid the added on gratuity for groups of 6 or more.

The menu was hella extensive.... items + descriptions must've been written using 10-point-sized font.  They also have a lot of beers, tequilas, and margaritas.

Per recommendation of our server, I had the blackened chicken quesadilla-peppers, spices (and it was spicy!), well-seasoned chicken (good rec!).  We get a side and I opted for fries.  My classmate recommended this revelation: sour cream n' chives fries.  I was glad they were able to add that on.  (a side of those fries is only $2.99+tax... it is MAD GOOD)

I was hella pleased with my meal. We also ordered a pitcher of red sangria for $13.99--about a glass each.

A 13oz of Delirium Tremens on tap (WHAAAAT?) is ~$8.50.

Next to the BU gym, on the Green Line-B (nearest BU Central station).  We took the 47 here and just walked a few blocks.

Glad to get a good first impression on Boston eats here at Sunset Cantina.

What makes this place "Mexican"?  I'm not sure if it's the food, per se, but I believe it is the availability of hella types of tequilas.

OMG The food here is sooooo sooooo good. I had this salmon pasta special dish the other day. It was amazing! The other time I went there I had some chicken walnut salad and it was also amazing.
Service is pretty good, not outstanding.
They have a lot of obscure beer. But they're one of those bars that only have craft beers and micro brews and are kinda pretentious about it.

For so long I avoided this place in favor of Sunset Grille and Tap. I'm more of a beer person than margarita, and I'm not a huge eater of Mexican Food. One day, I happened to look at their menu and realized,

http://1.it's pretty much the same menu.
2. it's not as long of a wait to get a table!

Genius. The food here is pretty good. Nothing amazing, a little greasy. I love the many many options, and the chive fries. Delicious.

The one thing that puts this over the edge, and keeps me awake dreaming about it: The dessert nachos. Yup. DESSERT. I LOVE nachos. Love, love, love. I also love ice cream. Put the two together, and I'm yours for life.

The base: cinnamon sugar pitas. Already delicious. Then cover those ice cream, hot fudge, vanilla ice cream, and then some seasonal fruits (in the past I've had raisins, apples, banana..). Must I go on?

If i had not tried these, I would give this place 3 or 4 stars at most.

I was there with a group and arrived first, alone, around 4:30 on a Thursday. They sat me immediately and my waiter brought me beer samples and was great with recommendations.
When my party arrived, we ordered a huge variety of drinks (beers, cocktails, margaritas) and food (nachos, quesadillas, other things I forget) and all of it was great.
The best part was that they split our check (for 8 people) with no hassle at all which helped a lot. I forgot to ask upfront and a lot of places bitch about this so I really appreciated it.

It's fun and  the selections (both food and drink) are huge.  What more could you ask for?

Food is good.  I got a Cuban Reuben and it was damn good.  We went in with a large party and the waitress along with a few other people were very attentive.  It's clean, it's bright, it smells good.

Before we sat down I sat at the bar for a few, the bartender was great, helpful and friendly.

I'm a fan.

Sunset, oh sunset. This, in the past four months has become my go-to eatin' and drinkin' place. My friend Camster and I roll in here about once a week, whether we want to or not.

One of the waitresses/bartenders knows the Cam and doesn't card her anymore. That is how often we're here.

The food, is always, always nom. For serious. Absolutely delicious. The drinks are equally nom. I highly recommend the Cactus Cooler. The staff are a little less than attentive, and most often than not have to be reminded several times to bring a side of ranch or a glass of water. This can always be forgiven because of both food and drink.

Good story about the atmosphere and general merry-ment at Sunset:
One time Camster and I came here for dinner. We waited for about 20 minutes, something we do not usually put up with--but, is Sunset! Once we were seated we realized it was trivia night. Barf our collective guts out. We bitched and moaned to each other about this for a sufficiently long period of time and then settled into our Cactus Coolers. By half way through the meal we had begun answering trivia questions and giving each other high-fives for all to see. It was too much, as they say.

In conclusion Sunset, I lurve you. Lots.

When I'm looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat or a nice cold margarita, Sunset Cantina is always my locale of choice. I graduated from BU so I was always in the vicinity, and really can't complain about anything over the many times I've been there.

Their food ranges from burgers and fries to traditional Mexican quesadillas and enchiladas- all of which are fantastic and very reasonably priced. Pair that with one of their many margarita choices, ranging from specialty flavored 'ritas to traditional, on the rocks or frozen, and you've got yourself a great night!

Coincidentally, it's also a good place to get a good buzz- aside from the margaritas, there's also a huge beer selection. Can't try just one!

The only complaint I would have about this place is that their outdoor seating leaves a lot to be desired. I can't say it's entirely the establishment's fault, because they can't really help the fact that the "environment" is the Green Line and a long stream of busy Comm Ave traffic zooming by, but needless to say it's not my favorite patio in the city.

Went for dinner last night and was rather dissapointed with the food.

I had the BBQ swordfish tips.  The BBQ sauce which I think had mango and a good bit of heat gets a big A+, but unfortunately that's the only thing that got an A.  The tips came on a giant plate, all 7 of them along with half a lemon and half a piece of corn.  The menu had indicated that I was supposed to get an additional side that somehow just didn't make it to the plate.  The vast majority of the plate was empty space.

The tips themselves were fresh (good sauce as already mentioned) but were really overcooked which made them quite chewy.  I think only one wasn't over done.

I'm not usually one to complaint about quantity over quality of food, but the fact that the meal cost $16 and I got 7 small bites of overcooked fish and half an ear of corn got me more than a little peeved.

One star for my dinner.  Second star is for my boyfriend's burger which looked really good.

Overall, I liked the service and it had a good drink menu -- crossing this place off as somewhere to get a meal.  Next time I'll stick to nachos and a drink.

I must add that I had the spinach and artichoke dip... and when it came out I thought someone had brought us the wrong thing (based on the description on the menu I was picturing something different....) but... regardless of it tricking my friend and I for a moment... Sunset is my Boston watering hole. I have NEVER had a bad meal here. The bar has something for EVERYONE with a huge selection. the salads are always fresh, crisp and delicious. The menu offers huge variety and the service is always on point.

I love sunset (both locations) however, the one huge drawback is that they DONT take reservations. so, go early!! especially if there is a game or concert. or go for lunch.

or petition sunset to accept reservations. YAYAYAY

If you went to BU, Sunset was a staple restaurant choice. It was especially popular for 21st birthday celebrations (I think I've been to five there) because they are a restaurant with a bar, so those of age can drink themselves stupid while those who are underage can eat nachos and hope that the server doesn't notice when the beer their friend ordered is sitting next to their plate.

Both Sunsets have the same delicious menu, so I don't see why people are saying one has better food than the other, though the Cantina focuses on tequilas while the Grill & Tap focuses on beer. The Cantina does have a great selection of beers, though my personal favorite beer is the Nutfield's Root Beer, which is a microbrewed root beer. Their baskets of fries are a good deal, since even the half-basket is way too much for a person to eat on their own, the nachos are a must-have with a group, and the honey mustard that comes with their chicken fingers is the absolute most delectable honey mustard I've ever tasted in my entire life.

I have been writing on the "How Did We Do" card that they need to add a chicken fingers meal that includes fries and, I don't know, a pickle or something, because now you have to order the chicken finger appetizers platter and a half-basket of curly fries and make your own chicken fingers meal. Also, I fail to understand why the default side dish with a burger is chips, and you have to pay extra for fries.

This Sunset is a great place for groups, since they are very tolerant of loud, rowdy, silly-acting groups. As a result, if you go at peak times, there can be a very long wait and/or a very high noise level.

So I popped in there for a bite when I realized that I hadn't eaten all day hoping to get something quick and yummy before my LONG commute home.

I walked in and there wasn't anyone at the host station, apparently he was in the back chatting up a waitress. I took a seat and ordered a beer and a water, which came very quickly. The waiter was very nice and very attentive. He checked on me several times and was quick with water refills.

The food I ordered was atrocious, I ordered a half-plate of nachos and a half-plate Caesar salad. Now, when I'm going to indulge in some nachos,. I like them to be nice and cheesy, but the amount of cheese covering these things was RIDICULOUS. I couldn't even get at the chips and chicken until I had pulled off a wad of cheese the size of a toddler's fist! The salad was WAY over-dressed and over-cheesed. I tried eating my food anyway, but I got less than half-way through this mess before I started to feel queasy.

I ended up puking my guts out for an hour after eating this. Maybe it was the grease, maybe it was the ridiculous amount of cheese, but it did NOT sit well with me at all.

Why does this place get 2 stars instead of 1 then? Great drink selection. They had some pretty creative looking cocktails and margaritas, a wide beer selection (although the one I initially ordered was out, I had to go with a second choice). Overall, if you want to drink yourself silly, I guess this is the place to go... just eat BEFORE you show up

Terrible, terrible, terrible. I ate here with my brother recently. Took 40 minutes to get my food and they forgot the appetizers. The waiter, some ass named Matt,  was totally rude and too busy picking songs on the jukebox as opposed to checking in on my bro and I. The food was cold and overall it was a terrible experience, oh and did I mention that there were 5 tables of people in the large restaurant, no excuse for this awful service. I dont recommend this place, but in the event you do go and deal with Matt, give him a poor tip.

Please don't ever go to Sunset Cantina on a date or a diet.
Please do come here if you or someone you know is turning 21, you are famished, high, or craving a rock city iced tea.

Pretty much everyone I know turns 21 here or celebrates at Sunset after a performance. It's a fun place to go later at night when you just want to pig out, chill, and have a drink. The prices are decent and I actually think the food is much better than chains like Uno's, TGIFriday's, etc. And they can certainly handle big groups. That's what they do. I love their nachos, quesadillas, chili, and boneless buffalo wings (i crave them in my sleep). My friends are obsessed with the burgers, spinach artichoke dip, and crabcake stuffed shrimp. I'd say their more adventurous/healthy options are hit or miss. Don't bother. Go for the guacamole. Oh and the desserts are ridiculously delicious (especially the mudslide pie which can be shared at least 4 ways). Almost everything about Sunset falls under the "so bad, it's good" category. The service is decent, pretty standard.

I also think it's a good place to go for lunch, especially in the summer when you want to escape into a dark, air conditioned, quieter restaurant. I once came here for lunch with a few girlfriends after we had all moved. No one had eaten anything all day and it was absolutely the best blackened swordfish sandwich of my life.

This place, as a BU-student staple, has served in our alumni group of friends as the standard bearer for nachos and margaritas. As in: "there's this Mexican place in (NYC/DC/State College/Baltimore/other place that one of us moved) that makes pretty good stuff, but their nachos aren't as good as Sunset's." While I'd definitely not call this an authentic Tex/Mex restaurant, and have found the rest of their menu to be consistently average, I have full-blown cravings for their fiesta nachos with chicken chili and a classic margarita on the rocks with salt. Worth it also to check out their Allston counterpart at Harvard and Brighton, especially if you're a beer lover.

Hi, Sunset Cantina.  I like you.  I like you better than your sister.  What I don't like, however, is your parading around pretending to be Mexican when your margarita tastes like the milk left in the bowl after the Fruit Loops are gone.

On the other hand, your food, service, and bathrooms are 100% better than the Allston location, and I'm pretty sure your beer selection is actually (magically) better.  So yeah.

BLEH. I don't know why but I dislike sunset cantina so much more than sunset grill and tap... wait I do know why.

Reason #1 why grill and tap is better than cantina : BEER. Okay so you've got a billion tequilas.. try sampling 5 of them and I'm pretty much in Vom-city. Also the beers that they do have are always out and then they have no decent replacements.

Reason #2 why grill and tap is better than  cantina: NACHOS: the nachos here are not as good. I don't know what they do differently, but they just are sucky also the chili is different at this location and it sucks.

Reason #3 why grill and tap is better than  cantina: SERVICE: the waitstaff here is not as friendly as the grill and tap location. They make me want to leave. I go to grill and tap and they make me want to stay and enjoy beers and have a good time.

3 reasons are enough for me to walk down the street or take the 57 if im being laze

I cannot get over how good the Coconut Fried Chicken is.

It's a new addition to the apps/chicken fingers section of the menu on the first page, but it's out of the world. It comes with sweet red pepper chili sauce and it is to die for.

Actually, pretty much anything coconut at Sunset is amazing. Including the Coconut Lime margarita.

I'd also recommend the fiery cajun curly fries, the naw'leans (or New Orleans) burger, the pesto tortellini salad, the chicken cesar salad, and yes, even some of the pastas.

The sandwiches are good too, I love the open pita one, though it's a mess to try and eat.

Nachos are always fabulous as well.

I've never left this place unsatisfied. The one time my burger wasn't cooked the way I wanted it, they let me munch on my fries while they cooked me a completely new plate- burger, fries et al.

Drinks are good too, though I haven't had many (underage) but from what I've seen they are decently sized for the price.

My first time eating in the city and my party was just looking for something cheap and preferable with a decent beer selection. It was suggested we hang close to major colleges and what luck!

Ok: As of the eve of 2009 112 Tequila's and 36 beers ON TAP!!!

And the prices are very reasonable too. My dish was the most expensive at $14.50 and even that was comparable to a chain TGIF back home in suburbia.

Aside from the ample booze selection and cheap food it's a big place, with lots of open space and plenty of neon glowing signs and gaudy decor. But hey, this is a college serving establishment (directly across from a BU athletics complex)

When I tried to come here last week, we couldn't get in the door (big concert at Agganis). However, this time, with a small show at the Paradise, there was no wait; in fact the place was practically empty!

Sunset boasts a ton of beer and drink options and they certainly deliver! If you can't find something you like here, you really shouldn't be eating and drinking out.

My friend started with the Banana Bread Beer, which was 16 oz and $10.  It lived up to its name.  I had a 5 oz Raspberry beer that pretty much tasted like Ocean Spray. Don't get me wrong I really liked it!

There are extensive options for food, ranging from nachos and wings, to salads, burgers and sandwiches.  I had the turkey burger with pepper jack cheese; my friend had the codburger.  We both got fries with it; I had curly fries and she had the sour cream and chive ones.  Both were great! My burger, however, was nasty and not something I would recommend.  It smelled like deli turkey and was kind of sour when eating it.  And there was no A-1 steak sauce! I just don't get how a place that serves steaks and burgers doesn't have steak sauce.  My friend seemed to like her meal though.

Our server was very attentive and nice.  I do like the drinks and wanted to play trivia so I'd probably be back.  I just won't order a turkey burger.

There was a 50 minute wait for the Sunset Grill up the road so we decided to go here instead. We got a table right away. The guys got the "Dirty Ho" beer and raved about it. I tried the Skyy lemonade. It was sweet but ok.

We all split a full size order of the south of the border nachos. The serving was enormous! With 4 people at the table we had half left. They were absolutely loaded. Every chip had something on it. Very authentic nachos loaded with toppings!

I split the BBQ platter with my boyfriend. It had 2 kinds of ribs, chicken, cornbread, corn, and mashed potatoes. The baby back ribs were the best. The chicken was overly dry, corn was good, cornbread very cakey, and mashed potatoes were fishy. The couple we were with got a burger and a fish taco. No complaints there.

Our server was on top of us all night. Drinks were quickly replenished and food brought out promptly. I prefer the other Sunset Grill thought. The menu is pretty much the same but I think the food and vibe are better up the street.

before i talk about food or service, i need to dedicated sometime to the sheer length and volume of the menu. Drinks- There are over 70 beers and 100 different tequilas and more than 30 margaritas (including the $60 fancy shmancy variety), not to mention the wine and cocktail list. Food - this list is over 4 panels long. There are and endless amount categories with countless varietals. For example, there is a potato skin section all to itself, with at lest 8 different versions.

The service was pretty friendly and helpful. The food was decent and on par with what you would expect at a place like this. the portions, both food and drink are pretty generous.  i can see how this would be a stand by.

I almost didn't bother with writing a review for here. You figure Sunset Grill, Sunset Cantina, whatever. But I've since learned there actually IS a difference, and the difference comes in who you want to bring where.

Let's get one thing outta the way, the food is the same as Sunset Grill. Exact same. Same menu, same ingredients, same everything. If you like Sunset's food, you're all set. If you've never been to either Sunset before, trust me, you'll find something here to eat. Even vegetarians. Not sure about for vegans though..
The food's good.

Now, the Cantina does NOT have Grill's selection of beer. They still have quite the hefty list at... 50+ I believe. So nothing to scoff at. But their poison of choice is actually tequila, and damn do they have a lot. Top shelf, bottom shelf, middle shelf, they took the whole frigging cupboard.

Now of course, tequila people do drink, but that wouldn't be enough to really orient a restaurant at. The claim to fame here is their selection of MARGARITAS! And DAMN do they have quite the fine selection. I recommend the Lime and Coconut frozen, it's deelish.

As I said at the start though, the difference lies in who you want to bring where, right? What do margaritas have to do with it? And to those guys out there thinking that:

FOOL!!

This little location is where you go when you have females in your party!
Now, don't get me wrong. Grill has other drinks than beer. And girls DO like beer. But, in my experience, girls like margaritas and are fairly meh about beer.
That being said, take them here! The selection of beers they have is more than adequate for guys to be impressed. The selection of margaritas they have will keep the girls quite happy too! It's a great blend for a mixed crowd!

So basically, the balance is the draw, as they have two big selections of alcohol here rather than one, it'll appeal to a larger audience. If it's guy's night out (or girl's night) and the entire crew just wants beer, then hit up the Grill. If it's a mixed party including people you don't know though, Cantina is the much better choice.

Truthfully, I did not have high hopes for this place.  However, I was surprised by the food.  And even though it's definitely an undergrad kind of place (and well, I'm really feeling post-grad at 26), it wasn't as noisy as I thought either.  We did have a bit of a wait but arrived early and weren't expecting our friends for a while.  All of us had fruity drinks-- margaritas, pina coladas, etc.  Mine wasn't very strong, but the drinks were decent, and there was a great variety of them.  Also, the menu was totally huge!!  If I hadn't been on weight watchers, I would've had a very hard time choosing a dinner.  However, I narrowed my choices down to the healthy options (indicated by a symbol; there were about ten) and got the turkey wrap with avocado.  This was good, maybe a little plain, but I dipped it into bbq sauce and then it was delicious.  I also had a side of black beans in lieu of fries.  I was not crazy about these weird spicy carrots that came with the dinner.  The other people I was with had chicken on a stick (and this isn't even Mississippi!!) and an enchilada.

Our real treat were the dessert nachos, which were fried tortillas piled very, very high with chocolate, bananas, apples, strawberries, and whipped cream.  Instead of queso for "regular" nachos, we had ice cream to dip our nachos in.  I have told like everyone I know about this dessert.  It was the most fabulous thing ever and bumped this place from a three to a four for me.

The service, although a bit slow, was pardoned because of a very nice waiter doing double duty that night.  He was very nice and had a big smile on his face.

You bet your ass I'll be back for those nachos!  I just hope they don't eliminate the entire B line on the T!

Large portions worth the money. Food is good. Drinks aren't bad.

My favorite are the sweet potato fries. If i wanan go light I usually get the avocado tijuana turkey wrap. Otherwise, enchilda and burgers! I am almost never able to finish the enchiladas. So if you feel super super hungry, get one!

Tuesdays, they have all you can eat midnight buffet. SOOOO.. keep that in mind when you're drinking on tuesday night. Or decide you would like a super late dinner.. say around 12 AM - COME HERE!

This is the best Mexican food I've had in Boston thus far, and NOTHING beats their margaritas- they're to die for!  Their menu is extensive and everything I've had from here has been amazing.  The only bad thing I can say about the place is that there are usually long waits on the weekend (a testament to it's awesomeness) and that the menu is so big it's hard to pick what to order!  I would suggest this place to anyone who wants some great grub in big portions and a laid back atmosphere with friends.  On a side note, I would say that Sunset Cantina is much better than Sunset Grille & Tap.

Things I adore about this place:

-spinach and artichoke dip and chips
-the fact that I am the type to order a turkey burger, no bun, extra mushrooms, no condiments, curly fries instead of chips... and no matter what, the server has never given me an attitude about being that picky, and my food has always come out perfectly right
-the aforementioned curly fries
-lobster ravioli with chicken (it's a special but they have it pretty frequently)

things I am not so fond of:

-it's often ridiculously busy and piled high with college kids who are really excited to be drinking. because drinking is cool.
-they could chill out on the overuse of oil... I am pretty sure that the chips will still taste yummy...

All in all, I am a fan.  When I actually get a seat and I can hear what I'm talking about with my friends, my food is served with a smile and it tastes great every time.

Yum Yum Yum!  I had a great experience at the Sunset Cantina.  I ended up here after the Great Bay Yelp event with some fellow Yelpers, and I was please.  I had always seen this restaurant from the windows of the Btrain, but I had not yet been given a chance to step inside.

I had the Gringo Burrito, which was a vegetarian option, and it was very good.  Even though I don't like beer, their selection was decent.  I will certainly come back for more!

This is a 3.5 star but I give it an extra half star for being a 4 minute walk from my apartment.

The bar is mostly beer and lots of tequila options, as well as plenty of margaritas.

The menu is kind of hit or miss for me.  I used to try some of the entrees and it was "eh".  I have found a triad of menu items that keep me happy anytime I go:

1. South of the Border Fiesta Nachos are the bomb.  Arguably the best nachos in the city.  As with all loaded nacho plates, it must be consumed before the top cheese layer forms an inpenetrable wall of dairy.  These are so good that usually isn't a problem.

2. Tossed Garden Salad.  I know, strange to highlight a plain salad but for some reason the lettuce comes out nice and crisp every single time.  I appreciate that as many restaurants make the garden salad an afterthought and you get a plate of limp lettuce with a few slivers of carrots and a lone cherry tomato.  Try it with the Lime Vinaigrette dressing, which I'm sure comes out of a gallon sized container but is tasty nonetheless.

3. Boneless Buffalo Wings. Enough spicy, yummy protein to keep you from muscle atrophy so you can look buff and toned on the beach. Of course it is deep fried and comes with a side of blue cheese, so maybe we should all just keep our shirts on after eating this.

Tons of beers on tap + awesome nachos = 4 stars 4eva. Plus, this place is way more convenient and less crowded than the original Sunset Bar up the street in Allston. We went on a Friday night and rolled up into a parking spot right outside the restaurant.

Sometimes Boston does me right.

The portions are fairly huge and I would recommend the burgers and salads over the Tex-Mex fare, but overall this place is pretty standard. At some point I will have to try one of those giant margaritas I saw them tossing around...
