We had our wedding at Sunriver Resort and I have nothing but positive things to say.
We were married in the Great Hall in the middle of winter. We had a fantastic experience. Kelly, the coordinator, was wonderful. She helped us on everything we could possibly come up with. As we did not have a wedding coordinator, her patience and suggestions were great.
The food at the wedding was very good. It is banquet food so I am not sure that 5 stars are warranted but definitely worth 4. Everything we requested was handled with ease.
The service was amazing. Hands down one of the best parts of the evening was the service. The wait staff took care of everything, wine glasses were filled, food was served and all with a smile.
Most of our guests stayed at the resort. We had quite a few people that were from out of town. But even Bend residents stayed there. It was great because if you stayed through the resort they gave everyone complimentary rides to and from the wedding. The was really great for people who rented houses. It was also great for all of us who got together for drinks at the Owl's Nest the night before the wedding.
Most of my guests were upgraded to the River Lodge rooms. They loved the fireplaces in the rooms and the views from their windows. We were given VERY reasonable rates so our guests were very happy.
I can't thank Sunriver enough for their service, professionalism and care. My guests left feeling like they had a vacation.
Sunriver is GREAT is you a) play golf, b) have kids, or c) have lots of money. We have none of those things and still managed to have a very good time.
I had bought a package at an auction so we got two nights for the price of one (sorta - a big discount anyway) and we got a free dinner (we had to pay for drinks and gratuity). We added on one extra night, and it was pricier than what we normally spend on a trip away (unless it's like Hawaii or somewhere exotic).
Our room was nice but when we returned to it after a short exploration of the grounds, we were locked out. They had accidentally assigned it to someone else who could have potentially had access to all of our stuff (computers, cell phones, etc) if we hadn't returned so quickly. I refused to move to another room so those people got the other one I guess. But, really, not a huge deal and an honest computer glitch.
The grounds are great, and the service and meals were terrific. Chris LOVED the observatory (not owned by Sunriver but they will shuttle you back and forth - for free!).
That's my only beef: I felt like doing anything else besides riding your own bike that you brought from home cost extra - canoe trip $50, yoga class $12, etc. We're used to resorts where, for that kind of money, activities are included.
Otherwise, it's in a gorgeous spot, and we love the fact that it's "in the middle of nowhere." That somewhere is definitely worth seeing.
A 3 and half kind of place.
We stayed at a few two-bedroom residences (The Pines). Not the easiest place to navigate around, but I think all of Oregon has a problem with putting up helpful road signs.
The rentals themselves were fully-equiped - much more than I expected. The bedrooms were big (Queen and King sized beds). The bathrooms were well-stocked with extra towels and toiletries (enough for our 4 day stay). The kitchen had enough utensils, pots, pans, plates for eight. The living room had extra chairs and a pullman for even more sleepers.
The extras were nice but.... there was a pool table and ping pong table, but you needed to either pay for them or checkout the supplies... there was an arcade, but they were pretty out of date games...
I'd stay here again just for how close it is to the Mt Bachelor, but I wouldn't say no to trying another resort as well.
It's not necessarily a romantic retreat, but for an active vacation in stellar natural surroundings, it's awesome. Our room was a bit small, but well-furnished and appropriately priced, and the overall resort experience is top-notch--swimming pools, hot tubs, bike riding, horseback, great bar, fantastic restaurant--even *free* laundry (nice if you've been on a two-week road trip like we were). We have a 3-year-old and we'll definitely be going back--perfect for families.
We enjoyed a very pleasurable weekend at Sunriver Resort. Our room was in the cluster just off the main lodge. Clean, high beam ceilings, gas fireplace, deck, well appointed. Activities are the main attraction here. Golf, skiing, hiking, canoeing, biking, fishing, tennis are all here to do at all levels. The main lodge has entertainment, decent food options, spa, and a workout area. Nearby Bend, OR has some very good restaurants and lots of cute shops for those who consider shopping an activity. There are a couple of brewerys and a local winery too for some wine tasting.
We flew from Seattle which is only a 1 hour flight, but to get there by car it's a bit of a drive, from Seattle 6 hrs and 3 hrs from Portland. Do check it out as it offers something for almost everyone.

This place is for the rich and stuck up. I rented a house there for 2 weeks. (very expensive) This what I learned. You cannot park your truck with your jeep on the trailer behind it in the driveway. Even if there is no one else around. You will be fined by a police officer at 6:30 in the morning. You cannot tow your jeep through the tiny roads after dark without getting pulled over and hassled. (this happened 3 times) If you look like a normal person and didn't happen to drive your Saab, the neighbors will give you the "look at the white trash" look. Also, no skateboarding, and no bmx dirt jumping.
With that said, you should check it out if you would like the experience of living next to people who do not enjoy fun. I have been down to the area at least 15 more times since then and have enjoyed staying in some much nicer, and much more friendly hotels in the area.

We (James L., myself, and his daughters) stayed with James' dad, stepmom, and bro in a cabin one night as we were on our way back home from picking up James' daughters in Redmond. Really like the rustic cabin feeling. Beautiful scenery. Convenient little village with a grocery store, little shops, and a variety of restaurants. I'd definately stay here again. I guess James' dad has a timeshare and goes here every once in a while. Only thing is noticing cobwebs up high in the banisters, and only 1 car is aloud per cabin (we broke that rule obviously).

Great place for a vacation. Lots to do. Fishing, hiking, biking, golfing, tennis, swimming and lots more. Beautiful mountain scenery everywhere you look. The condos are clean and very quiet. The lodge has a great Sunday brunch. Breakfast food is good and well priced. Dinner food is good, but very over priced. We would come here every year. The place is even more beautiful than the pictures below.
It might be the very nature of the beast or the young, party animal in me, but I don't quite see pleasure in driving 3 hours into central Oregon to the middle no where small town and stay the weekend where you can equally enjoy the stay at home. Oh did I mention the middle of no where... but hey "whatever floats your boat."
You'll definitely get your dosage of golfing, tennis, walking by the lake (which isn't very spectacular), or snow boarding activities if you decide to take the short drive up to Mt. Bachelor. Things are expensive, espeically if you decide to rent a place like we did. The lodge itself is a nice spot for receptions, with good craftsmanship.
I would rather head up to the closer Mt. Hood, or the coast for more breath taking views.
Overall: Blahhhh....

This place was a great getaway for my new wife and I. It is in the middle of Oregon (nowhere). Really if you look into it you should know its nowhere before you go. It is a great getaway for that reason. It is very family oriented as there are kids and parents riding bikes around the entire property. They have a stable for horse rides, a marina for rafts, canoes and kayaks to float down the river and of course golf and tennis. We enjoyed a wonderful spa treatment at the Sages spa, a little pricey, but for 2 hours it was a great experience and everyone was very professional. We ordered room service twice and it was delivered right on time, our closeness to the lodge I'm sure helped that, and the food was very good if again a little pricey.
Overall, a great relaxing experience away from the hussle and bussle of daily life, very professional staff, not priced like a motel 6 but far superior in amenities and quality of establishment.
My Uncle owns a cabin here. Extremely Fun. Check out Hot Lava Baking Co. I come here 1 or 2 a year
