Ive been working out for over 8 years and I recently became a personal trainer my self. I have worked with trainers in the past and in my experience I have yet to find what i consider a "complete trainer". By this I mean a trainer who can train me to get ready for a marathon, a figure or bikini competition, a power lifting session, a cardio session, a total body workout, a kickboxing workout, emphasis on body sculpting and symmetry, weak point training and above all else guide me on proper nutrition and how it relates to my goals. At this gym I have found it all. Every trainer far exceeded my expectations and I couldn't be happier.
I initially started training here to find some new exercises and input I could use for my own clients and its an investment I couldn't have been happier with. I'm all about atmosphere and cleanliness when choosing a gym. When there's high energy and a clean gym the only thing left is for the trainer to deliver. Tai has done an excellent job in choosing his staff and in my personal professional opinion he has one of the best crews in the bay area. The attention to detail the crew has is phenomenal. I love the focus and attention I receive.
I have had the opportunity to train with Tai, Eddy and Joey. I love the energy from them all. I have yet to train with Tim, Maggie and Dan but have observed there style and I am eager to get started with them as well. I love Tai's energy, creativity, style and insight. Eddy is an amazing kickboxing instructor who combines kickboxing, cardio and resistance. Joey is an amazing weight training specialist, who is a perfectionist on form, symmetry, body sculpting and nutrition as well as monitoring my hear rate for me to have my most effective workout. All of these trainers are a masters in the fitness industry and are COMPLETE TRAINERS. Thanks to this gym my passion for fitness has grown even deeper.
I Highly recommend this gym to all ages and fitness levels. Stop wasting your time elsewhere because if you want to be at your best and look your best Sunnyvale Fitness is the gym for you. -

I started working out with Joey at Sunnyvale Fitness about a year ago in anticipation of my 50th birthday. I am now in the best shape I've been in since high school. Joey is a great trainer, and kind of a sculptor, because I have definition in muscles I didn't even know I had. The atmosphere at Sunnyvale Fitness is laid back, so it's an easy place to workout. Joey's training style is very challenging, but achievable so I'm always making progress and accomplish a lot each session. I thought my body had given in completely to the ravages of gravity, but not so. I can now face my 50th birthday with my head and other body parts held high.

If you are looking for a gym with personal trainers who can help you work out, this is the right place for you.
I think it's a great place, and will also be for you if you're like me; sw engineer sitting at his desk coding and debugging 8~9 hrs a day, tired &lazy in the evening/weekend to motivate himself to workout or run, thus do not get enough physical activity to keep you healthy, strong, and lean. This place is keeping me alive. As a bonus, I was able to build up some muscles for my hobby -golf- too. :)
It is not a regular gym like 24-fitness. If you're looking for a place to workout by yourself, this is not the place. But if you're looking for a personal trainer that can help you workout, why pay extra for the gym at 24 when you can just focus on the personal training here. They have flexible schedule, and the place is not crowded. I workout mostly with Joey; he's a great & nice guy, highly recommended. -

I'm rating this, not as a gym member, but as a little bit of info for prospective gym-goers. This is NOT a gym--it is a "fitness studio" (the exact terminology by the gentleman behind the desk at the door).
I was looking for a "regular" gym--for cardio and weights--and found this one here on yelp. So I went over and wanted to check it out, only to discover that it only has a limited set of weights, and centers around activities (outdoor) and the "buddy system" for working out. A really neat idea, but for an average person looking for an average gym, this may be confusing when one happens upon it listed under "gyms" in the area.
It seems like a great place for those looking for the atmosphere, but if you're looking for something more along the lines of a (yuck) 24-hr fitness type place, this isn't the place for you.
The guy at the desk was nothing but nice and helpful and informative--looks like a great place for people looking to go and do some workouts on the buddy system, and bond with fellow exercisers. -

My sister and I have been working out here for two month now and we absolutely love it here. All the trainers are super friendly and Tai, the owner is very accommodating.
I had my doubts about training with a personal trainer because I always thought they would all be hard core army style training. But, I was very surprised to see that they tailor the training program to meet your needs, and achieve your work out goals.
We train with Maggie, and I personally think she's awesome. She's very personable and encouraging. She knows how to push you when she knows you can go a little bit further, but helps you or gives you alternatives when you insist that you can't. My ultimate goal for working out was mainly to get more toned and build muscles, and I honestly felt the difference after the 2 months I had working with Maggie.
Not only does the gym offer great work out regimes, they also have diet plans for you to follow if your goal is to lose weight and body fat (which I have also tried, and found very effective).
In a nutshell, I would recommend this gym without hesitation! -
Review from Rishi G.
I was a pathetically weak girly man when I started working out here. I'd been weight training for 4 years, but without too much progress. I still had 11" toothpick arms, and was weaker than most 16 year old girls.
My 1 rep max bench press was about 100 lbs, I could deadlift about 200 lbs, squat was 140 lbs. Bicep curls were with a 50 lb barbell for 5 reps. For reference, I'm 5' 7" and was 145 lbs when I started training.
With such pathetic numbers you can imagine I lacked motivation and my workouts had been stagnating for a while.
I worked with Pei from February until June. I went to Sunnyvale Fitness 3x a week for weights, and did cardio + light weight training myself 3x a week. I can 1 RM bench 145 lbs now, deadlift 250 lbs, and squat 210 lbs. These are still not amazing numbers, but are much more respectable for someone of my size. One can't ask for much more progress over of the course of just 4 months. I've gained about 5 lbs of muscle as well.
Unfortunately Pei no longer works at Sunnyvale Fitness, but there are many good trainers here. I'll still be going and hopefully continuing my progress. I'll update my review later this year with my new results.
If you're looking to gain muscle, increase strength, or lose fat - you should definitely e-mail / call Sunnyvale Fitness, they'll get you taken care of. And the prices are very reasonable too! -

After seeing celebrities with perfect bodies...I decided to come here for a personal trainer. Luckily for me, Pei Kuo was there for the rescue! If you want that "Hollywood Body"...Pei is the trainer you need to go to! His workout plan works! He is also a great motivator...and I keep working hard because I don't want to let him down. Some guys just don't know what the hell they are talking about...but this guy knows.
In about two months, Pei got me benching from 115 to 165...and also got my body fat down from 14% to 9%. I had a bunch of goals before I came here...and Pei helped me reach all of them.
Go to Sunnyvale Fitness and ask for Pei. It'll be one of the best decisions you have ever made! The facility is also really nice and the owner, Tai, is really nice too. -

I've been going to Sunnyvale Fitness for the past 2-3 weeks and I can already say that I feel a lot better about my fitness level. It also helps that my friends have noticed that I am starting to look a little leaner.
My trainer is Eddie and he has found a way to keep me interested and motivated in my workout. His dynamic approach targets various muscles at the same time. Combine this with some cardio and isolations and you get an awesome workout. My first couple of session I left feeling extremely tired but very proud of my accomplishments. Lately I leave feeling invigorated and looking forward to my next session to see how much more I can do.
Sunnyvale fitness will facilitate diet recommendations and the accessibility of the trainers will let you get some insights into other topics of interest like different diets and supplements and whether they are safe and worth your time.
Highly recommended! They have packages for single and buddies so no excuses here :). -

My wife has been hounding me for some time to get my butt into shape. She figured doing couples training would be a good idea. I'm very happy she found Sunnyvale Fitness, and the reviews here on Yelp!
The location is great, right behind my favorite store Fry's! Actually, it's about a mile away from our home. Go another about a half mile further and you can join the crowd at 24 hour Fitness. Your choice.
The gym is not large, but large enough to accommodate the few people working out. They try not to schedule too many people around the same hour, which allows you to just focus on yourself and not watching other people.
I really enjoy the personal attention my wife and I get. Tai and Sarah have been encouraging and friendly as they push us through our workout goals. when comparing rates to other personal trainers in the area, I think you'd find it hard to beat Sunnyvale Fitness.
Highly recommended! -

Sunnyvale Fitness combines trainers that care and are willing to do what it takes to keep you accountable, great regimens and all the equipment you need to make it happen.
Tai figured out how to motivate me, was flexible with doing early morning sessions and the rates are incredibly reasonable for all of the support that you get.
If you are looking for personal training in the South Bay, Sunnyvale Fitness will exceed your expectations. -

There are fitness amateurs out there who'll tell you to lift this, crunch that, run here, bend there - all while they peek at the clock or send a text before they pat you on the back after your session is up. Way back when I didn't know any better, I found a lot of these absurdly priced "professionals" at 24 Hr Fitness.
And then there's Tai.
Forget whole 'nother level, Tai takes you to a place where it hurts the most. He watches, corrects my form, encourages, corrects some more and just when I think I'm done, makes me repeat. I tell him that it hurts, I wail and complain and sweat, and cry and he even nods sympathetically and says, "I understand," but the bastard still makes me do another perfect rep.
At the end, I've always walked (okay, crawled) away with the knowledge that I've put EVERYTHING I've had into my workout because Tai would accept nothing less. My only regret is not finding him sooner. Five perfect stars. -

The staff at Sunnyvale fitness are very friendly and motivating.
They helped me put together a training plan to help me get ready for my half marathon in October - they set realistic goals that help this lazy person get off her butt. Thanks! -

Tai and his crew are simply phenomenal at what they do! If you're looking for 1:1 personal training in the South Bay - this is the place!
I trained with Tai for a couple months and he basically kicked my ass everytime. What else can you ask for?
Furthermore, I have the utmost respect for trainers that are in great shape and "walk the talk". Tai's done Ironman Triathalon's...and that says a lot.
Give these guys a shot and you won't regret it. -

I've been a member of 24 for-EVER (over 1/2 my life) and needed something new to kick my a$$ into wedding dress shape.
After looking up reviews, this was first on my list. I signed up that day because:
- Tai returned my call after a couple hours and I visited that day
- Clean facility, towels and water provided
- Variety of trainer experience (like an A-Team)
- Training packages
- Success stories on the website
I picked Maggie as my trainer because she'd know what I was talking about when I'd say I have Hip Hop or Salsa class... not to say the other guys don't dance (it just isn't on their profile).
I'm on my 5th week of training and I'm glad I signed up because I don't believe I'd get to my goals on my own.
I've completed marathons, an olympic tri, and all gym group classes but Sunnyvale Fitness helped me figure out what I wasn't doing.
1. Nutrition - Maggie and Joey looked at my meals and saw that I had to change them to get to my goal on time.
2. Accountability - Maggie asks me what I eat since I last saw her, but if I mess up, I'm just motivated to make better choices the next day
3. Variety - I get bored easily so she changes up the exercises. They also have a bunch of other stuff I can do like boot-camp, volleyball, golf, run events, etc. (see website)
4. Mentoring -At first I planned to work out 3-4 hours/day, which I found out would be very bad because I'd be over-training, which would lead to burnout, then not working out. During the peak hours, there's maybe 4 or so trainers working and if someone has a question, they ask each other advice so I'm not just getting the knowledge of 1 person, but the whole team.
Also, their location is excellent because before or after training, I can jog, take a nearby cycle or yoga class or stop by Fry's.
Right before my wedding, I know I'm going to have my own success story because my abs are still sore from training 3 days ago. -

I can't even begin to tell you how great Sunnyvale Fitness and its trainers are. If you're looking for a personal trainer who will push you and help you reach your goals, Sunnyvale Fitness is the right place for you. I workout with Maggie and Eddie and both challenge and push me, but yet are very considerate of my lower back injury. They even went as far as putting together a meal plan for me and are so flexible with their schedules. I highly recommend this gym and training with Maggie or Eddie without any hesitation!

Update due to the comment of gym owner.
1. I made an appointment and showed up; but there was no trainer for me. I did not randomly show up. If you show up with an appointment and if there's no trainer there, won't you be upset?!
2. How is it possible that I can cancel 4x in a row? Especially I enrolled that gym for 3 sessions only. I cancelled ONE, since I was not feeling well. I knew that they have 24 hour cancel policy and I did not say it was unreasonable.
--------------
I enrolled just for 3 sessions to find out how the training of this place are. Long story short, I hate this place and I am getting refund!
I was thinking if it's good enough, i could enroll a lot of sessions such as 50, therefore, I am not just here to blame on anything. However, everything made me hate this place. I don't understand how yelp result is 5 stars here.
pros: cheaper than some other places, but not super cheap either.
cons:
1) Trainer missed my schedule. I was there and my trainer was not there!
2) Hard to schedule - you can't even choose any time you want, even though they have 9? trainers. They don't even give you possible options about when is available but blamed on me.
3) poor facility especially - they have one treadmill, one bike and one elliptical. You don't have many choice when someone else is having the same session at the same time.
4) not focused trainers - during the training, trainers were joking around with each other listening the radio at the same time especially when I was in my reps.
5) training style - I could get only one session FYI. They claim on "total body workout" but everything they asked you to was things you can do by yourself at home without any special knowledge. I don't think my money was worth $60 in one session.
If you want to be happy with your training, this is not a place to go.Comment from Mrs F. of Sunnyvale Fitness 5/27/2010

Sunnyvale Fitness has started a fitness program for preteens that rocks. They have an 8-week session, 1.5 hours a day, focusing on exercise and diet, all at an affordable rate. There is a maximum of five kids per session, guaranteeing that every child gets attention. Each child has set his/her goals, and they do everything from kick boxing to tug-a-war to biking to running to light weights. They also spend time reviewing their eating choices. I highly recommend all parents in the Sunnyvale area to check them out.

Tai is a ROCKSTAR! I went from 29% bodyfat to 22% in a short 5 month period. Tai gave me great nutritional advice and my workouts were personalized. I felt that I was there for me and not trying to be some other stereotype. On day one, Tai asked me my goals. He definitely helped me achieve them. I hate that I'm moving bc I would stay and train with Tai FOREVER!!! He just doesn't realize that I'm really gonna take him with me to Alaska. Please, please, please, train and work out at Sunnyvale Fitness if you can. It changed my life for the better. I will always be grateful for Tai. Peace Out!!!

I joined Sunnyvale Fitness in July thanks to my brother's support (emotional and financial) and encouragement. I am really happy that he encouraged me to work out. He found out about this place via yelp, The owner Tai is very responsive and calls back and returns messages promptly. I really appreciate that there is an open pricing system so that it builds transparency. I trained with Maggie and she has made training fun. We have great conversations that mask the hard work that I am doing. I work out hard, but Maggie knows the right weights and how much to push. She has experience in doing figure shows so she understands women want to look lean and trim instead of bulky. We discuss a lot about fitness and nutrition and explains to me reasons why certain strategies/food works. She keeps me accountable for example asking me what I ate and if I did my cardio. She also comes up with a nutrition plan (which includes cutting down on that sugar and sweet tooth) that will help me in my weight loss goals. Also Maggie responds to text so I can text her when I am in a restaurant and would like ideas for healthy options. I feel this studio is a good way to do personal training instead of a gym setting as it is tailor made.

Love this place!! My husband and I have been going to Tai for may be two years now. It's close by home and very convenient. We have worked with Tai as well as a few other trainers, and they are all very good. They personalize the training to your needs. And most importantly, without Tai, we would really never go work out. :P
