I came here because it was near my dog Vet.  My sister and I decided to stop by to get a quick breakfast before we drop the dog off for neutering.

The staff friendly greeted us as we walked in. We decided to sit at the booth. There were couple old men there drinking coffee and reading their newspaper. I like the atmosphere.

The food was good and i love their coffee.

I would good here  for a Sunday Bunch.

11am breakfast on a Saturday morning.

    $8.65 - Spinach omlette
(w' hashbrowns and choice of toast.  got sourdough)
---This omlette was FULL of spinach, onions and lotsa feta cheese on top...so flavorful it didn't need salt or pepper!!!

    $8.29 - Green Chile omlette
(chose pancakes instead of hashbrowns, chose english muffin instead of toast.)  ---This omlette was sooo full of green chiles and lotsa melted swiss cheese...again it didn't need any salt/pepper!  YUMMY!

    Great sized food portions.
Hot sauce choices of Cholula / Tabasco.

Ashley was such an AWESOME server!

Finally got around to trying this place!  :)

    Friendly service... GREAT food!

I had the filet special... delicious steak.  I asked for it well done and it had quite a bit of pink, but it was actually really good.  Baked potato, corn, salad, muffin.... lots of food and SO good!

Good place for breakfast. Service was good. Huge menu with lots of variety and breakfast is served all day. The peanut butter pancakes were good (the peanut butter was not in the pancake batter, it was served on the side). If you are looking for gourmet, don't bother this place is a more like a diner than anything.

This place is our new favorite place to eat Breakfast/Brunch!

We have been here a few times now. Our favorite server is Steve hes kinda quirkie but hes a nice guy and always trying to make sure everything is good and that your drinks are full. I have had the Omelettes, The cornbeef hash and the Cinnamon roll french toast (My favorite!) My wife has had a number of different meals from here was well. Every time we finish eating and say "that was good!"

If your a fan of Ice coffee they got one for you! 32oz Iced Coffee loaded with creamer for under $4.00 and comes in a to-go cup! (Beat that Starbucks!) I get one every time mmm-mmmm!

A few things worth noting that *might* drive other people away.. It doesn't bother us because it adds personality and we kinda like it. - no complaints here.
    - The servers and greeters all dress  -very- casual no uniforms.
    - This place is old! the booths and the layout of this place scream 80's (maybe older? lol)
    - No free refills on the Iced Coffee, but if you ask they will top it off with normal coffee for you and you can find the sweeteners and such on the table to mix it up a bit yourself.

Cant wait to go back! I want my 32oz Iced Coffee and Cinnamon roll French toast! :)

KC's law firm was instrumental in getting Sunny to drop the Waffle House moniker from its title. It's now Sunny's Family Restaurant. That said, they dropped the ball in renaming this diner.

KC would've renamed it Sunny's... A Model for Diversity in Huntington Beach. And by diversity, KC means this place isn't the Huntington Beach built by excellent looking HB legends such as Peter North, KC, that hot chick from Charles in Charge and the MMA guy with his porn girlfriend...uhhhh... Janine Jameson.

That's right, KC said it. People in Sunny's don't look like us great looking HB folks. It's the reason KC is gonna be mayor of HB. Look for KC to run on the platform of "We'll take Bella Terra but the rest of North HB will be annexed to Westministucky or Garden Grove". (By the way...Garden Grove? Really? #soundsbetterthanitis)

Hooked up a Denver omelet and some pancakes. The salsa sucked and the pancakes were sorta average. Coffee wasn't great and the service was mostly toothless.

While we're on the subject of hillbillies, what is that thing across the street in the University Behind Levitz parking lot? The sign says Swap Meet but KC thinks there isn't much to swap... maybe some dentures for a tin of Copenhagen?

Please contribute to KC's mayoral run to rid HB of North HB. God Bless you and God Bless Huntington Beach.

I'm just really not a fan of Sunny's. Breakfast is my favorite meal to go out for - it puts me in a good mood if it's done correctly (or at least done moderately well). I met a friend here for breakfast, and the service was nice, but I just can't get on board because of the bizarre omelette that I was served. The egg was a funny color, and it came with a fat piece of american cheese on top. (I find american cheese to be a crime against humanity). I have honestly never seen that one before. Most breakfast places at least upgrade to cheddar cheese. Yikes! The sides were forgettable, and the layout inside was odd.

Maybe if I were convinced to come back in the future, I will order a waffle...this place is seriously lacking. I can think of so many better breakfast places, so I just don't don't see a need to come back.

Ordered the Country Breakfast special that they had advertised on a whiteboard outside the door. Average breakfast with eggs, sausages, bacons, potatoes, and toast. The country gravy that they poured over the potatoes were bomb and was the best part of the meal.

I love this place!  I eat here at least once a month when I meet a very large group, often over 100 people, and no matter how chaotic the group I all ways have coffee, the food is good, with a great price and the staff is smiling.
The decor is dated, but it is a coffee shop.  Most important, the place is clean, the employees work very efficiently and the prices are right.
I mostly go for dinner, but have gone for breakfast with friend or family and am never disappointed!

Sunny's Family Restaurant is good place to go for breakfast.  I order the Texas Scramble.  The Waitstaff was helpful and prompt.  The food was fresh, hot and delivered very quickly.  It was of good quality given the $8 price tag.

My nine year daughter loves this place because, just like McDonalds, she gets a toy with her meal.  Sigh.

The only real fault I can find with Sunnys was their choice of channel on the television: GAC.  I'm not a big country & western fan.  That being said, it was just as easy to ignore the TV.

    I'll probably be back.

My friend brought me here since we wanted breakfast and had to kill some time.

    Our waitress was great.

I got the corned beef hash and eggs.  $8.  not bad.  I kept saying I felt like I was eating at one of those Vegas cafe's where you can get the same thing for like $2.99.  That stuff tastes good at 2am when you are starving after being out all night.

The food was decent.  I'm giving 4 stars because everyone was so nice at the place and the food came out crazily fast.  I swear I think we ordered and it was out.

I looooove this place. i just checked it out for the first time. They had peanut butter pancakes AND chocolate chip pancakes. I was torn with my decision. SO I asked the waitress, what would SUNNY do? Can a get half and half? she said no, but she can do is get me peanut butter pancakes with chocolate sauce!!!! Genius!!! it was by far the best pancake I have ever had.

Also, they offer baby bottles of booze ( for mimosas)!

The only down side, it is kid friendly( i hate kids), parking can be difficult, and it isn't the cheapest- especially if you have a few mimosas.

Went here three times when we decided we wanted to start supporting mom & pop places.  I don't know why we gave it three chances when each of those times there was something really wrong.

First time we went, I ordered the Banana Caramel waffle, one of their specialty waffles.  They came out after about 10 minutes of waiting and let me know they were out of the toppings for it.  Okay.  So I ordered a different meal.  It was good but totally something I could have made at home and by the end of the meal I was upset I hadn't.  Service was slow and it took forever to get our drinks refilled.

Second time we went with friends.  One of our friends had a can of Red Bull that she was drinking.  The server came out and rudely told her she couldn't have outside drinks in here.  So my friend had to chug it and give up the can.  Again, service was slow and we hardly had any check-ups from our server.

Third time was the final straw, I ordered my food and there was a glob of cheese (I think) on the side of my plate.  After I saw that I was too grossed out to finish my food.

Not going back here.  I'll find other mom and pop's to frequent.

This new eatery sits in the old Huff's location which has been huffed, and puffed, and blown away.  It sits directly across the street from Golden West College and with a window seat on the weekend you can gawk at all of the folks over at the swap meet.  It was slightly after noon on a Sunday, and we decided it was a good a time as any for some breakfast fare.  Walking in, the layout is still similar to the old Huff's, but the rooms are much brighter.  We were greeted and seated in short order.  The service level was quite good and it seemed that everyone enjoyed their jobs.  The place was also packed... probably triple the number of people I'd see when it was still Huff's.  Anyways, on to the food:

First things first... had to try their Mimosa.  A mini carafe of freshly squeezed OJ together with some Tanglewood Brut California Sparkling Wine.  Not too shabby, especially for four bucks and change.

Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs:  The portion here is huge.  It had to come out on 3 plates.  One for the Chicken Fried Steak smothered with country gravy, another for the extra crispy has browns and eggs, and a third for the pancake option I took instead of the toast.  The taste was fairly decent, and I was overstuffed and ready for a nap when I was done.

Blueberry Pancakes:  These were just okay... could've used more blueberries.

Chef's French Toast:  This was decently okay as well.  The standard pancakes were better.

I'll be back again soon to try out more of their stuff.  3 stars for the breakfast fare so far, and a bonus for the great friendly service.  Pics are up.  =)

I have only been here once, but with 3 other people and everyone loved their food.  Because this is a "waffle house", I ordered the waffle, some eggs and bacon.  It was good, and the waffle was just a waffle.  But because everyone at my table loved their food, and the service was good, I have to give this place 4 stars.  I hope some day they would specialize in awesome waffles.  I can only hope...

Met with a friend at Sunny's[1] for breakfast. I arrived with an hour to spare, and since I was pooped from the night before, I napped in their waiting area. (Luckily, the staff were sweet about it, and didn't call the cops.) My friend eventually arrived, and poked me awake. Debbi, our personable server-to-be (and missing an "E"), let us pick our seats - it was wicked early - and we ended up at the counter. Decor-wise, Sunny's is seriously old school, and doesn't pretend to be anything else.

"START YOUR DAY WITH A MIMOSA"
I laughed when I saw that in the menu, caps and all. Suggestion or order? My mind was hardly willing to fight, and my body couldn't resist, so I indulged, and so did my friend. Two glasses of Tanglewood sparkling wine later, our meal was brought out.

I had the breakfast special #2 super combo ($8.95), which came with a waffle, two crispy bacon strips, two sausage links, and two eggs any style (sunny side up, please). My breakfast mate got blueberry pancakes, dusted with powdered sugar ($6.99). Everything I tried (even the pancakes) was decently portioned, and tasted as good as one could reasonably expect. Nothing mind-blowing, but the pleasant company[2] helped pass the time immensely. Affordable, and they take credit cards.

Skip Denny's and try Sunny's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner[3].

[1] I believe they call themselves simply Sunny's now to downplay their limited waffle selection.
[2] No, I'm not referring to the senior citizens (or the one family) that came in during breakfast. (+1 star for the good company)
[3] Sunny's started dinner hours in April. Sadly they don't offer brinner (you know, breakfast for dinner): breakfast choices are only available 6 AM to 11:30 AM.

    Cocos?  Done that
    Denny's?  Done that
    Sunny's?  Sure why not....

That was basically how we ventured into this restaurant.  Upon parking our truck, we thought twice about going somewhere else as we observed patron after patron getting wheeled out of the restaurant.  No, they weren't too full from the meals but  they were just really OLD.

Yes, this spot seems to be a senior citizen favorite.  We noticed many elderly couples enjoying breakfast at this location.   The first thought that came to mind was that the meals would be mushy and soft to aid those dentures the patrons would be wearing.  The second thought was that the quality of food and service had to be consistent as these patrons, if any thing like my grandparents, came expecting a certain level of execution.

So we came in with open minds and ordered the corn beef hash plate as well as the country breakfast.  The eggs were cooked perfectly.  I don't know how many restaurants have blown the preparation of eggs over easy.  The whites were slightly cooked and with a gentle poke of the fork, the yolk came oozing out like lava flowing out of a volcano.  I was very excited to have my eggs prepared the way I wanted them.  Also, they cooked the hash browns perfectly as they were not overcooked and hard.  The hash browns were slightly toasted with a buttery texture while the center was filled with the fluffy white  potato spuds.  My only knock was that the gravy that came with my biscuit wasn't hot.   My gf also enjoyed her corn beef hash and was also happy that they cooked her egg perfectly over-medium.

Nothing spectacular here but we were definitely satisfied with both the food and the service.  Is it better than Denny's and Coco?  Possibly.  Is it spectacularly better?  Probably not.  What it is, is good food cooked and served consistently.

Breakfast is hard to cook... honestly.

So...many...things could go wrong.  I mean, the Waffle Iron can over/under cook your waffles.  Eggs are truly hard to cook if you don't have the knowledge and well... I guess...

if you let things sit too long... they get soggy.. PERIOD!

I got your typical eggs, sausage, bacon, with pancakes.  The pancakes were really soggy from the butter sloshed on there.  Husband ordered Chicken Fried Steak.  He mentioned the sauce was good, but the meat was overcooked.  His toast was again, soggy from butter.

It really had an odd feeling to it.  It didnt seem inviting or warm.  Waiter was attentive, but the food missed the mark.  Drive down the street to Jon's.  Much better food.

Oh, did I mention there were two cops next to us, so we heard their radio the WHOLE time?  They should turn those suckers down and the waiter should learn to not seat two parties right next to eachother in an empty room.

This is for the Sunny's on Edinger. Stick with the breakfast! Our first visit I ordered the Ground Round on the lighter side.(watching my carbs) It was very good! And it's closer for me than driving to Harbor House. So today, I go and order the Ground Round . What I received was not. It was some kind of  frozen yuck patty! The owner said it was the same but we should have had two patties instead of one. So he took half off our bill. Which is a nice gesture, but I couldn't even finish one of those never mind two.  Needless to say I wont be returning. One more thing,  I hope the waitress reads this... PLEASE, PLEASE WASH YOUR APRON!!!!!! Both times I had you it was beyond disgusting! Sorry, but I don't recommend this one.

Update: My kids really wanted to go so I caved....I was very happy with my food (Chicken fried steak) and my waitress was great!!! Also, her apron was clean.  so I am giving it another star and will visit again.

Staff was friendly and attentive. We were greeted warmly and our orders were taken promptly.
The problem was the cook wasn't very good at cooking. The two times we went there for breakfast, the pork sausage was burnt on the outside and pink on the inside. Eggs ordered over-medium had raw whites, on both visits. Either the management/owner doesn't check on the food or that's the way they like it. I don't, so will cross Sunny's off the list.

One would think that if you put the words "Waffle" and "House" in the name of the restaurant that you would be able to choose from a variety of waffles and not just Belgium or old fashion. Wow, what a colossal disappointment our breakfast was today.

I wasn't hoping for a fancy waffle batter or even a dessert-like strawberry waffle covered is syrupy fruit and a billowy mountain of whipped cream. I was looking for a good waffle that could stand on it's own. My waffle came out cold and soggy. As I tried to spread the butter it tore in several places. The room temperature maple flavored syrup only made things worse.

I might go back and try some of the other dishes that people reviewed. It's a cool looking little coffee shop with a lot of potential but I can't help but think the owners are running a restaurant for the first time and they are learning as they go.

Went to Sunnys on Edinger. Have been going there every weekend since they opened. Today they seers me some nasty fries with some kind of bitter coating on them. Not Sunnys usual fries. The girl at the table beside me didn't have that kind. They told me they were out of her kind. Then a man came in after me and they served him the same kind she had.
I will NEVER go to that Sunnys
Again . Why were they only out of those fries during my order

The place is spacious and has a nice atmosphere, the service was nice up to a certain point, and the food was tasty and decently priced. They give you the bill pretty early, though, so it felt like we were rushed and they made up our minds for us about whether or not we wanted dessert.

My biggest problem though, was that I ordered a Banana Caramel Waffle and after I had eaten half of it, I noticed a glob of cheese stuck on my plate.

    That is freaking nasty.

I pointed this out to the waitress and they offered to take it off the bill, but then she came back saying they wouldn't after all because I'd already eaten it, but they would give me another free waffle. Which is kind of ridiculous to offer after someone's already eaten.

Everything before that was pretty enjoyable, but the Cheese Waffle thing really ruined it for me, I'm never going there again. Watch out for mysterious cheese lurking under your food.

I would've given this place 4 stars if I hadn't tried the waffles.  I ordered a Montecristo sandwich w/hashbrowns and my girlfriend got the waffles and some eggs.  We also got an order of bisquits and gravy.  Even though we didn't think we'd be able to eat it, we needed to test the country gravy "for science".

They do thier montecristo differently than I'm used to . . . .they basically make a ham and cheese sandwich, dip the whole thing in egg batter and toss the whole thing into the deep fryer.  That was a little more than my tummy could deal with so, even though it was tasty, I only ate half of it.  I'm not counting it against them, though, since it was really tasty and I could've loved it on a different day.

The hash browns were really good - Waffle House style for those of you familiar with that famous South Eastern chain.  The biscuits and gravy were great, too.  The country gravy was pretty spot on.  I was stuffed - ready to pay and go home for a nap when my girlfriend asked "don't you at least want to try the waffles?" . . . . . so I took a taste and, holy crap! - these are the best waffles I've ever had . .ever!  I quickly ate the rest of the waffle even though I was disgustingly full.

I've never been a huge waffle fan - I've ordered them at plenty of places and they are always good but never awesome.  These waffles are beyond awesome - I'm going back as soon as possible and get some more.

This is one of our favorite breakfast joints. The food is good, menu is plentiful and pricing is reasonable.  You can't ask for anything more. 5 out of 5.

Their Sunday Special is a favorite to order (Country Breakfast).  The decor (remember the 80's?) is a bit dated but the food and service makes up for it. I love the waffles and the coffee. And yes, they do have real half and half for your coffee. The restaurant is clean and our food always comes out fast. This is a great place to eat breakfast and where you can actually enjoy your meal. Out of all the times we've eaten there, can't find any negatives.  YUMMY!!!!!

To be honest, first impressions last.

BOTH my coffee cup and my cup of water had lipstick marks on them. The server profusely apologized and I think he even docked a buck off our food.

I had the french toast platter which was filling. A friend and I should've split it rather than ordering two seperate ones. The atmosphere was quiet. I spotted a few senior citizens in the tables across from us. The booths are comfortable and in good condition.

Feeling like a good brunch we decided to head up to Huntington Beach to Sonny's Family Restaurant (formally Sonny's Waffle House), and like every time it is totally worth the trip.

Let's start off with the 32oz Iced Flavored Coffee (Vanilla, Sugar-Free Vanilla, Carmel and Hazelnut) for only $2.95! This is for those of you who love fancy flavored coffee (Guilty!) or just need to deep clean your house in under an hour. Starbucks this is not but if you enjoy iced lattes you will not be disappointed.

After getting our Latte drip set up we ordered. Rich was in the mood for breakfast so he ordered the Ham & Cheese Omelet (cheese is extra) . The omelet came smothered in cheddar cheese with chunks of juicy ham in each bite, a generous helping of home fries and toast. I was feeling more like a sandwich, so I ordered the French Dip with Swiss Cheese and it was a little bit of AWESOME!! You know how sometimes when you get a french dip and the meat taste like you are gnawing on a Gucci wallet from '96 that has marinating in Worcester sauce? Well not here. The meat was moist and delicious you really don't need the Au jus, however if you don't try it you will be missing out on one of the best seasoned Au jus' outside of a fancy prime rib restaurant.

This place has a nice, cozy, laid back feel that I love. As soon as we walked in the host (who I believe is also the owner) greeted us warmly and seated us quickly. Our server Michelle was super cute, attentive and with her suggestion I ordered one of the BEST French Dips I ever had.

If you find yourself in the mood for home-style cooking with great service that is easy on the wallet Sonny's is your place.

So my friend and I have a way of somehow going to Westminster mall and then going to eat here afterwards. We first went here because I saw that on the sign was a waffle with a chef hat and well... I go to places that catch my eye like that. So far we have been here about four times and we usually order breakfast since it is served all day I believe. We actually get the same waitress just about every time.  We usually get the pancakes/waffle with either strawberries or boysenberries. It is filling and it is delicious and it is probably my favorite meal there.

Apparently before they were only open for breakfast and lunch and now they are open for dinner as well.  I decided to try their dinner to see if it was good or not.  I  had their country fried steak one time and it was very filling and you get a lot of food for what you are paying for.  I had leftovers because there was no way I was finishing my meal.

My friend also had their veggie sandwich and she said it was good but once we started ordering breakfast, there is a chance that we may not go back to non-breakfast foods.

The customer service is super friendly and they even have a sign out front that says if you are there five minutes before it closes, then come in anyway. I think the reason my friend and I enjoyed the place so much the first time was going to be the customer service because they treat you nicely and give you some good home cooking.  The atmosphere is like an old school 80s restaurant simply because everything is the pale color and it seems to be the feel of it.  It probably has to do with the whole home cooking goodness so it does feel like you are in your grandmother's house or something.

Overall the place is fantastic and I would recommend trying their breakfast because I have yet to leave unsatisfied.

Sunny's is within walking distance to my house so I have been here a few times.  This particular location has been a number of different restaurants since i've lived in the area (8 years) and I think they've finally found a perfect match with Sunny's.

On the handful of times i've been here service is always friendly, they let you pick where you want to sit, and the food has always hit the spot.  I almost prefer it over Denny's.  They have really great bloody mary's as well as iced coffee.  I've only had breakfast items here but they've all been good (I read an earlier review and they said breakfast wasn't served all day but I had breakfast last night for dinner so I think it's available all day now).  The decor is cool as well.

So if you want decent prices, good food, and a laid back atmosphere definitely hit up Sunny's.

My wife and I recently went here for breakfast and we were pleasantly surprised. My wife ordered an egg dish and it was fantastic. Being the weirdo that I am, I ordered vegetable soup for breakfast and it was great. The staff was friendly and the place is bright and cheery. Prices were reasonable. No complaints.

4 stars if in huntington beach and not wanting to drive to far for some chicken and waffles this is the spot you will want to visit

we and the wife tried there breakfast menu had a chicken fried steak with hash browns and 2 overeasy eggs, the wife had a waffle 2 strips of bacon 2 sausages and scrambled eggs.

the waffle huge!!!! taste was full, but crisp flavor in every bite even without the syrup, eggs standard, sausage, bacon same. my country fried steak was ok nothing special but filling, there gravy heavy and alot not like most places, it was swimming in the sauce jhummmm, eggs nothing special, hash tasted cut fresh lil spongy in the middle so u know it is fresh the outside layer was crisp.

only reason I did not give this place 5 stars was nothing really popped out at me other then the service, food was good just nothing to really say im different from all the other places

    food ****
    price $
    service ***** excellent
ambiance **** bright, open, large restaurant, old school tv's hung up on corners of the ceiling..

Slow service, weak menu, so-so food. Years back, this place was better, but multiple owners have taken their toll. They have a pick-your-own-breakfast that is filled with mediocre items. Weak pancakes, waffles, and French toast. The Italian omelette is not bad. Bacon and eggs are OK, but there are better places in Huntington Beach. I'd sit at the counter if I wanted coffee refills.

Drove by yesterday, and noticed that sign has been changed.  Guess "we" got to them because all reference to "waffle" is gone.  It's now just "Sunny's" with lots of geriatric crowd going in.

The first visit was exciting and I had eggs benedict (the eggs were terribly runny, kinda of reminded me if it was raw...?) and hot chocolate.  It was very good.  The second time I had their patty melt.  When it was brought to me, it was not what I ordered.  Then the third time, I had a turkey club and the turkey tasted rubbery.  I was disappointed by that time.  My college club chose this place because it was across the street from Golden West College (our college).  I think the next time our club meets (starting in the Fall), I will choose things from the breakfast and sides.
