I don't get massages too often, but when I do I cherish every minute of them. This massage was no different. I was looking for a neighborhood massage place that would give me what I needed without cleaning out my wallet. Getting a decent hour massage for $55 plus tip doesn't happen too often, so I am happy to have found this place.
I told Tommy, my masseuse, that my neck and shoulders were especially tight, and he made sure to spend a little more time working out the muscles. I felt amazing after I walked out of there. He also gave me a card for every ten massages, I get one free. That will definitely bring me back there sooner than later!
One drawback is, being a small place with only a few workers, they do have to answer the phone/door... Unfortunately that takes you out of your relaxation for a moment. But, if you can tune out the noise at times, the massage itself is well worth it!
this place is an absolute Godsend!
I'm a little afraid to write this review, purely for selfish reasons. If this place blows up, I will feel personally responsible for bringing Sunny Wellness to the masses. I was a customer the first week it opened - back when it said "Rub a Dub" on the red awning. I happen to still call it that, because its hilarious.
The truth is, this is the best (and cleanest) Qi Gong joint on the Upper East Side. It's not one of those wanky wanky places, or "happy endings" spots that you find in the Lower East Side (not that I would know) - these are real technicians working out those damn knots I develop sitting at a computer all day.
The price is right too, 20 minutes, for 20 bucks? C'mon. . . ridiculous. You've got to save your ducketts for the hour though, its only $52 bones. When did you ever get an hour massage less than $80? Never.
Susan runs the joint, and she only gives massages when the other two are busy. No offense to Susan, we love her, but she's no match for Tommy or the other lady there - not to mention if the phone rings, she's got to stop what she's doing, and get it (buzz kill). Seriously, come back, and get the hour, its worth it. . . .and the foot rubs - forget about it. I don't even want to get into a description - just treat yourself.
The only drawback is that some of the crazy upper east side ladies/girls come here, and they do make a seen. You know the type - Big Sunglasses, Juicy sweat pants, with uggs, and a thousand dollar hand bag hanging from the bend in their elbow. You will definitely hear them moaning, because its that good, and there isn't that much space separating you from them. I just think people need to relax on the special requests - dog massages? couple's massage? This aint the Mandarin, dawg.
Anyway - you might catch "Da Blaze" here for his bi-weekly rub down after a couple of long weeks on the hustle. Take advantage. . .Peace.
Just what my pocket ordered! Specializing in "The Best Chinese Qi Gong (For Men & Women)"---whatever that may mean to you, I just wanted a massage, and won't pretend to be a connoisseur of styles.
I happened to be on this side of town visiting a friend who lives on the block, and had 30 minutes to spare. No appointment was necessary, and I strolled right in.
The staff was very friendly, and for $28, I got a 30 minute very intense, deep tissue back massage.
The set up: An assembly line of massage beds w/privacy curtains (you won't see the next person over, but you will hear them). Very friendly staff, low light, and calm atmosphere.
It is a small space however, and there was a woman who walked in very loudly berating everybody. The guy next to me was also groaning during his massage, and I just found that annoying. I wouldn't come here looking for a spa experience, but it is very comfortable.
They have very long hours. 11:00am-10:00pm 7 days a week. Wow. Loosen up those muscles by getting a massage on a Saturday night before you hit the bars & clubs!
