Most restaurants would look askance at you if you showed up just before closing on a slow, slow Thursday night with a party of ten people ... but not these guys!  Service was quick and cordial - and the food was excellent.

The menu is basically bibimbap - veggies and meat over rice - and you can get it in a sizzling hot stone pot, or in a slightly more healthy regular bowl.  Portions are generous, toppings are fresh, and there's plenty of hot sauce to make it as hot as you like it.  Dinner came with soup and some really delicious ( yet mild ) kimchee.

They have a few sides - we tried the Kimchee Pancake, a thin pan-fried thing - maybe not to everyone's taste.

They serve beer, sake and soju, as well as some other flavored alcohol.

Affordable, casual and delicious - they seem to be doing everything right.

I am very happy that their business is doing so well but my own tick about this place is they never seem to have enough servers during their busy lunch hours.

It takes forever to get our food, forever to get our check, sometimes it take forever just to ask for something like some pepper or... more kimchi....

I would have just updated my review to 3 stars because of this little but major tweek in their service but i love the food too much to do it to them.
Plus, now they serve stone pot which is a place because some like my bff love the crispy rice on the bottom.

YUM! This place has been on my list for quite some time. My roomie and fellow Yelper, Tiff K., has told me about it many times. We finally got a chance to drop by for lunch! Apparently, they have expanded from a hole in the wall into a full service dining operation!

We ordered take out - just tried the Bibimbap (beef) which was $7 and HUGE. Also, if you order to-go, you get the food in 3 minutes and you are ready to go. The meal was healthy, light, not oily, but also a totally good value. I split it into 2 meals!

Our team decided to eat "healthy" for a change and we found ourselves at this nice little joint. Ordered the sashimi bowl aka hedobap and it was DELICIOUS. The service was so friendly and attentive. The restaurant is huge so there's no wait if you come around 1PM for lunch (we had 8 people with us). Reasonably priced and leaves you feeling like your money was well spent.

It's tough finding healthy lunch places in the South Bay, so I was pleasantly surprised when my lunch companion introduced me to this place. Healthy, fast, huge (i.e. no waiting for a table), cheap, and, bonus, I discovered that fern is a food! Definitely try the kimchi pancakes appetizer.

This is one of the best hole-in-the-wall mom/pop restaurants around the Peninsula. The place is small, but clean and the food is great. There isn't a lot of selections but what they do is SO YUMMY!

Best place to go to for bibimbap. The bowl is not small at all and not too huge where you waste food. Fresh ingredients, you will not be disappointed.

Do not come here thinking that there are 20 different things on the menu. It's very limited, but OH SO GOOD!!!

This review is for the To-go order I had. The meat was subpar, not what I was expecting. I could tell when I was eating that everything tasted very "healthy", a lot of veggies and not a lot of meat. I was disappointed that everything seemed under-seasoned. I do like their hot sauce.

The kimchi pancake was just alright. it was a bit soggy since I took it all the way home. I wasn't very impressed with my food. Although, the cashier at the front was very nice.

Stopped by here today for lunch, and surprisingly it wasn't busy at all. I love bi bim bap, especially sizzling stone pot, so I left totally satisfied after getting the kalbi. I thought it was kind of odd they serve miso soup with the meal, but I wasn't complaining. There was just enough food to fill me up so that it wasn't overwhelming, and there was an interesting mix of vegetables (I have never had squash in my bi bim bap before).

Overall, seems like a reasonably priced, and a semi-healthy alternative to the other greasy food spots we've been frequenting during work lunch hours.

Take some white rice. Chop up a ton of raw, unseasoned vegetables. Throw it all in a bowl and top with some nicely cooked fish in egg batter. Healthy? Yes. What I should be cooking for myself but I am too lazy to dice veggies? Yes. Bland? Extremely.

I'll probably be back because it's healthy. But I won't love it.

Randomly they had a Wednesday night special complimentary tofu beef soup. That stuff was amazing! If they add it to the menu I'm adding a star.

You never let me down Sunny Bowl! Glad they took over the corner space and are now humongous! (And even though they've expanded, the whole dining room was packed yesterday when we came in for lunch, makes me happy to see a restaurant do well even after expansion)

When you're in the mood for something light and really fresh, go for a Tuna Sashimi bowl (I get mine with less rice, call me carb-conscious) but even then it's still a large portion that can't be finished in one seating. All of the vegetables make this dish taste really fresh, drizzle it with the sesame oil and spicy sauce, toss it all up and bam, you got yourself a great lunch.

This is one of my husband's favorite places.
It used to be a small restaurant with cold Bibimbab, but they moved to bigger space right next the old one, and started serve Dolsot Bibimbab which is pretty good.
Price is pretty chip and they use fresh ingredients.
With the much you pay, you will not be disappointed.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Sunny Bowl catering at my work café, since I've been wanting to try it for a while, but just haven't had a chance. I got the mix chicken and beef bowl. And I also added chicken potstickers to my order. I eat with my eyes, so I love how there are so many different and bright ingredients on one plate. It came with kimchee and a sauce to drizzle over. It was really good and I wouldn't mind eating it again!

Finally got to try this place and it's now in a much larger nicer space.

I got the Shrimp and Kalbi Combo Bi Bim Bap in hot stone pot. The pot was really hot so much so that I was able to stir and sizzle the rice for several minutes!  Excellent!

The Bi Bim Bap was delicious and filling.  All the toppings were good; I especially liked the boneless Kalbi and the mushrooms.

The small side dish of kimchi however was nothing special.  I want more side dishes~

And it just occurred to me that they didn't offer me the free frozen yogurt!  But I will definitely go back even without the frozen yogurt.

My grandma always told me to eat my green vegetables.  During my bowl-headed childhood, I exploited the loophole that is Bok Choy braised in various meat stocks.  Perhaps I was the only veggie eating kid on the block who managed to wear "husky" pant sizes.  However, thanks to a little called Sunny Bowl, you can actually eat something healthy that doesn't make you hate your life.

The best analogy I can give for the place is like Panda Express for Bi Bim Bap (i.e., Americanized), except good.  Okay, Americanized isn't the best word but it's a great place to get your inner Korean Erykah Badu on.  The vegetables look like they literally just came from a garden, super fresh and still with some crunch.  They offer an assortment of proteins, of which I generally go with the chicken.  I have tried the tune sashimi too and it was basically tasted like the healthiest Asian food I've ever had.  I could have high fived a yoga instructor.  This is even with the extra meat.

Other than the bi bim bap bowls, there really isn't much else.  They have kimchee jeon, which tastes good but is like most other pancakes.  Extra bonus points for the barley tea and yogurt after the meal.  Adds a nice touch.

Overall, great place to grub without the guilt.  Chubby children of the peninsula rejoice: you have found your loophole.

This place is alright. I had Sunny Bowl to go before but never been to the restaurant. I was surprised that the restaurant was pretty big and even have its own bar! We had an early dinner (5:30pm) and the place was semi empty (it got busier around 6:30). Our waiter kept coming over to chat with us/ check on us...I mean, it's a friendly gesture and everything but he came by so often that it got really annoying after a while! Give us our space dude! Stop interrupting! Food wise, I thought it was alright. If you're looking for fresh and healthy, this is the place. Pretty cheap too! I think it was less than $10? The pancake was $4 and it wasn't bad.

Good food, good service. I never knew a place could make vegetables taste so good.

I ordered the healthy bowl with beef. I saw photos on yelp and before I got to the restaurant I had already made up my mind.  Even though you mix up all the vegetables, rice, meat and eggs it still better to present it the way they do here. This will be my first and probably last time I compliment how good looking a rice bowl looks.

The beef was tender and how a nice marinated flavor. Vegetables were crisp and nicely cut, so all was good.  The big downside was the portion size was a bit skimpy. I know its lunch but I shouldn't leave hungrier than when I came in.  Good thing there was a subway next door. I had to get me a few cookies to tame my growling stomach.  All in all the place is spacious and quick service for a decent lunch.

    Will I go back?
I'll be back, I've got my eyes on the hot stone bowl.

I like bibimbap...but only dolsot bibimbap. Unfortunately, Sunny Bowl does not serve any dolsots (the stone bowl that makes your rice crispy) and as such I cannot give them a very good review. What they do have going for them is a number of healthy options and a very customizable menu.

the location they are in now used to be a bar/lounge therefore it is really nice inside. Every time i been here its never been crowded and the service was quick and courteous.

Food: Its a big bowl of rice with a bunch of different veggies your choice of meat or sashimi toppings. I got half beef and half tuna sashimi. The order comes with a little serving of kimchi that you can get more of if you ask.

    Price: Decent 8-11 per bowl.

Overall: Refreshing and healthy meal for a good price.

Upon arrival, I was very surprised that this was a full service sit down restaurant with bar! Based upon the pictures on Yelp, I thought it was a college-townesque order at the counter and sit by the door in plastic gardening tables and chairs type of restaurant!

The restaurant even had what I thought was a full bar!

The wait staff was very prompt in showing us our table in the large and quiet restaurant. They were also very courteous!

Started out with the kim-chi pancake which was okay. Definitely less oily than most seafood pancakes that I have gotten from Korean restaurants.

I ordered the hot stone pot because I was expecting the miso soup. Apparently the manager special was tofu soup and everyone got one...I'm not a big fan of tofu soup and this tofu soup was good.

The kim chi left much to be desired...tasted more like bland KFC coleslaw.

The short rib hot stone pot was tasty. The short ribs were boneless which was definitely unique. The hot pot ensured that my rice stayed hot throughout the meal along with all the vegetables and pan-fried egg!

All in all, $12/person was definitely good value! :)

Kim-chee wasn't more vinegary than spicy. Service was good. I asked the lady to find out what "fern" was, but she never got back to me so I found out for myself (some weird mushroom thing, tastes good). Might have been a language barrier, no big deal regardless.

I had the beef in the stone pot. It was super hot. I didn't swirl my food around, so my rice got a little too hard at the bottom.

It's okay. Quick bang for your buck if you're in the area and need something quickly and for cheap. Ambiance is nice and kind doesn't align much with their prices (that's not a bad thing).

I think some people mentioned here that it was small and to come before noon for lunch. I came in at 11:15am, didn't get too crowded. It appears they might have renovated, so the space is pretty average and can accommodate a busy lunch crowd.

Sunnybowl continues to blow me away.  Its great to sit down and dine with friends or just take out.  And if you get the healthy bowls, its only $7!  For that kind of price you might think you weren't getting much in the way of quality/quantity but both are impressive.  Plus a couple months ago they moved locations (same plaza, 2 doors down) and now they have a much bigger and fancier dining room.  But the prices didn't go up!  Plus now they also offer the traditional hot stone bowl bibimbap, which my friends love.  I'm still partial to the "healthy bowl" though.

Sunny Bowl redeems my faith in the existence of excellent Korean restaurants!! It is everything a Korean restaurant should be and more!

I am always so extremely impressed when I dine here regularly. This place has CONSISTENTLY provided excellence in all areas:

    1. Food: generous portions, super fresh ingredients, wonderful presentation.... (Tuna Sashimi bowl for only $8 something???? Sooo yummy!!!)
    2. Price: the BEST value in the peninsula!!!! Seriously- for such great food and service, it's sooo cheap!!!!
    3. Service: Excellent, excellent, excellent!!! Especially the nice Korean girl who is always smiling and goes above and beyond to provide great service!!
    4. Ambiance: love the new restaurant space! Very clean and comfortable.

I come here regularly for dinner, usually late, almost before closing. In most restaurants, this is when service and food gets lazy and sloppy. NOT HERE! Servers are so friendly, helpful, and nice. I love that Sunny Bowl consistently puts the extra care and consideration into everything!

Sunny Bowl is well-deserving of my gleaming praise & devoted patronage!!!!!!!!

Sunny Bowl has moved next door to a much larger space. They also introduced a new hot stone bowl option (comes with a fried egg on top of your rice, and costs about $2 more).

I've downgraded the rating to 4-stars, since I feel they are no longer going above and beyond to please their customers. For example, they used to give free frozen yogurt at the end of your meal. One of the waiters was also super happy and eager to please. I think he no longer works there. Today they forgot to give us our miso soup, which is supposed to come with our two stone bowl orders.

Anyways, it's still a solid place for Korean-inspired rice bowls and kimchi pancakes. Just not as magical as before. :-)

I'm hooked to this place! Delicious, healthy, and very cheap. Just about $7-$10 for a full bowl of yummy bibimbap. Choose from beef, chicken, vegetarian, or tuna.

The cold option isn't an authentic bibimbap, however, it's still good. If you get the cold sashimi tuna bowl, you should opt for the seaweed salad instead of the rice. The rice wasn't as tasty as the tuna was cold..however, if you get the hot bowl with tuna, then stick with the price!

The restaurant does get busy during weekdays, but it is a big location.

Okay, I must be missing something.  First off, this is an okay, somewhat healthy Korean faster than average food place.  The food is probably really healthy but it also is really boring.  The service was super friendly and the prices really reasonable but this is not a 4 or 5 star restaurant.

One would think that with Google billions just around the corner that better dining options could be found but not so.  Even the movie theater across the street is terrible.  Maybe having lobster and entertainment on the Google campus makes is less compelling for billionaires to visit nearby establishments... [just kidding] [maybe]

It's a decent quick lunch spot that doesn't break the bank but it is what it is and that isn't 4 or 5 stars...

Honestly, the original "healthy bibimbap" isn't a real bibimbap.  Its rice with uncooked veggies and some meat on top - e.g., a salad over rice.

Thankfully, they added the real dolsot bibimbap to their menu when they moved.  The super hot stone bowl stayed hot even after eating, as it should.  The beef, actual bibimbap veggies (not the healthy stuff), and fried egg with the crusty sizzled rice were decent but not amazing.  The dolsot came with miso soup while the healthy ones didn't.  Yay for saltiness to go with non-healthiness!

Prices are comparable for bibimbap - less than $10 (they raised their prices since they moved), but they don't come with the little plates like other Korean restaurants.  Maybe I just don't feel satisfied here because I don't smell like Korean BBQ and don't need a post-dinner shower afterwards.

Okay, so you may be asking... do they really deserve only two stars?
And no, it doesn't have to do with customer service.

When I moved out of California for a year, my friends started raving about this bibimbap place, Sunnybowl, where the food was cheap, healthy, and came with a little sample of froyo.  I get it, it was a deal at the time.

For some reason, I never got around to checking this place out until this weekend when my brother, who was visiting from out of town, mentioned he wanted some bibimbap for dinner.  I yelped, and came across Sunnybowl, and was blown away by its rating, and decided to finally check it out.

I'm sorry folks, but cheap is cheap, and I'm mildly offended.  As a Korean-American who grew up learning how to make bibimbap, I was appalled at how they basically watered down true tasty Korean food to a fast food art.  All the ingredients are pre-cut, pre-sliced, and re-heated, and a minimalist version of bibimbap.  Now I hear all of you who say it tastes healthier than other bibimbaps.  It's a false perception, because it's basically crunchier than typical bibimbap, since the vegetables aren't cooked, and the rice is drier.  You may be saying, see, healthier since it isn't laden with sesame oil.  Wrong again, they choose a type of lettuce that is practically like iceberg.  Their cabbage, young and a pale white.  I make bibimbap at home all the time, and will often forgo the stove.  But I use greener greens and vegetables that make all the difference.

Their kimchi?  That is the kind of kimchi my mom makes when there's no napa cabbage to be found in Rhode Island, ie. a sad alternative.  Which makes me believe that their kimchi pancakes are store bought, because why would you waste the good kimchi on a pancake?  Plus the pancake is way too flat and generic to be freshly made.  I could be wrong.

Lastly, I don't typically write bad reviews, see for yourself.  I just want to bring Sunnybowl down a notch, because that's what they've done to Korean cuisine.  Take pride in your dishes please.

    Dear Sunny Bowl,
We used to be so good together. You served large bowls of bipimbap for a reasonable price. At the end of each meal you gave me a mini cup of fro-yo with the check, which was really a perfect palate cleanser.

A lot has happened since those glorious days. Your prices have gone up (to be expected) and your serving size has gone down (??).  But it's the little things I miss the most: You used to be so bubbly and happy, but now you're just very polite.  I especially miss that little cup of fro-yo.  I couldn't help but notice that your machine has now had an "Out Of Order" sign on it for the LAST SIX MONTHS. And whenever I ask about it, your staff just points to this sign and smiles.  Which means - Let's Be Truthful - that you have no intention of EVER fixing it. I'm sure in six more months that machine will quietly disappear. (It's only now I realize what a tease you've been.)

Don't take this the wrong way; I'd still like to see you now and again. I think you're a great restaurant...Really. It's just that I need to see more of other places.

What I'm trying to say is: I'd still like to be friends

Came by here a couple times for dinner and for food togo.

Food - It's pretty tasty and good value for what you get.

Service - It's a tossup.  One time I came in and the waiter was very prompt at refilling our tea and kimchi.  The other time we came in we had to flag down the waiter twice before we got tea and kimchi.

I like the fact that they set their prices so after you add tax, your price always ends in 0.  So the Beef one costs $7 while the Tuna Sashimi one is $9 after tax.  It makes it convenient to pay =)

I felt like having Tofu Soup today but couldn't find one in my vicinity.  I found this restaurant and Korean sounded good so I went there for a late lunch.  I had the Bi Bim Bap with beef and although overall everything was on the bland side, I used their hot sauce generously to suit my taste.  Overall it was very healthy and filling with a good portion to boot.  The service was quick so I was in and out very efficiently...  I'll be back again some time and perhaps I'll bring some of my colleagues with me.

Although I gave them 4 stars, I would actually have rated them a 3.5 if available...

    In summary:

FOOD: colorful, varied menu, good portions, and flavorful
    PRICES: moderate to inexpensive
SERVICE: friendly and attentive, but no so much as to be creepy
    ATMOSPHERE: mathematical
LOCATION: well...it's close to the freeway. Good for commuting!

    All deserving of repeat business.

Sunny Bowl is close to my work, so I've been here several times. The menu is limited, and basically offers bibimbap, huge Korean veggie-rice bowls, with different toppings like teriyaki chicken/beef, sashimi, tofu/broccoli, and egg-batter fish that you can dress with sweet hot sauce & sesame oil. The bibimbap here is non-traditional in that it is not served sizzling on stoneware, but more like a salad.

I like to order the egg-batter fish, which is delicious but sometimes a little greasy. They have good, cheap appetizers like seaweed salad and kimchi pancakes... and if you go there when it's really quiet (like weekday evenings) they sometimes offer you a free bowl of miso soup :) Overall, it's a very tasty, cheap, casual, and relatively healthy place to grab a bite!

Came here for dinner after work with friend, Albert L., who recommended it. Super efficient restaurant, as everyone else yelps.

There's one main bibimbap base, and you choose your addition (beef, chicken, tuna, etc).  Their appetizers are delicious - ordered the kimchi pancake, potstickers, and egg battered fish.  I got the Tuna bibimbap and my husband ordered the beef.  Am a huge fan, and as their menu proclaims, "well being lifestyle" - the fresh ingredients definitely promote that. An affordable and healthy dinner choice.

    Will definitely be coming back.

I really find the previous reviews somewhat incredulous. The most positive comment I can say is that the food was edible and the service was courteous.

While I don't wish ill upon the business -- more power to them if they have a following -- this is far, far, FAR away from what I would consider decent / respectable / reasonable bi bim bap. The first bad sign was that the food arrived w/in 1 minute (maybe 2 at the outside) of ordering. Heck, I can't even get an In-Out burger in that time and I consider that the minimum bar for fast food that I'll patronize.

If you know what to expect and find it acceptable, go for it. And I don't have any ill wishes for the business. But if you like bibimbap in a comfort food kind of way, this will likely be disappointing at best.

Great place to get a quick good bowl of bibimbap!  A good lunch time alternative, if you want something new or different.   My bowl was healthy, flavorful, and inexpensive.  Wish I could've gotten a bit more rice (my only minor complaint).

We ordered to-go, but ended up eating there.  The guys working there seemed polite, we didn't even ask, and they offered my friend and I water.

The place was small, but clean.  It's not meant for a first date.  The guys again, went around and cleaned the tables.  This owner seems to take pride in her place, which is what I like to feel when coming to a mom-n-pop restaurant.

My new favorite 'different' place to eat. Fresh, healthy food and friendly service. Good value for the money.

I was looking forward to trying this place out as it's so close to work and has such amazing reviews. I wanted to see what the big deal was! I was underwhelmed.

The food was ok, but reading through these reviews I'm guessing the best part of it was the value it USED to be. When I went, I paid $8 for the extra beef bibimbap, and another $4 for a side of the egg batter fish. I took it all to go, and they did a nice job packing the food, but it just didn't strike me as anything special at all. The bibimbap did taste relatively healthy and fresh, and the egg batter fish tastes exactly as it sounds.

I wouldn't mind coming back here again because it's so close to work and the food is decent, but it's certainly not something I'll crave or consider a great deal.
