I'll give it four stars for now - maybe more as I work thru the menu.
Went in Saturday and had a burger while waiting for my car to be fixed. Realllllllllllly nice burger. AMAZING fries (fresh, I believe, not frozen). Fun place.
Also, I liked that it was not packed with irony-seeking, kitschy hipsters. It wasn't getting by on some "oh, look how cool this old stuff is" vibe. It was just plain good.
I've had Suni's before... The food is so so. Not too many places deliver burgers though, so I thought I would give them another try.
I was afraid my home address might be a little outside their delivery area, so I entered my home address in Yelp's "Near" field (above), and Suni's is only 4.4 miles away. I call them and ask if they deliver to my area. I specifically gave them my address, and they said they would deliver to me - yay!!!
After waiting an HOUR, I got a phone call from the delivery guy saying that he wouldn't deliver to me because I'm too far away. WHAT?!?!?! I told him I even called and confirmed they would deliver before placing my order. Even so, he still said he wouldn't deliver to me.
I called Suni's back and asked them what was up with that... They gave me some lame excuse about the guy who confirmed delivery for me going home and a new delivery guy starting. Aren't they all coming from the same burger joint?!?!? Why is it one guy will drive 4.4 miles and another one won't? He couldn't answer that one.
I hung up the phone after telling them I've got a hungry child, no food in the house, and it's now too late to order from someone else (it's a work night). I did just order from another place, and It'll be about 9pm before I finally get something delivered.
I'm angry at Suni's now, because I originally ordered food at 6:30 pm, and it's not like I live in the middle of nowhere! If they tell me they'll deliver to my address and then find out they made a mistake, they should go out of their way to make the delivery, and then tell me they cannot do future deliveries. I better not see a charge on my debit card!
I love this place. It's full of great food done the right way, great atmosphere and your cute teenage servers who are just so darn cheery, you can't help but smile everytime they ask you what you need.
Pizza aside, definitely go for a burger, fries and shake. Although this is indeed a pizza joint, they do this classic American combo very well. If you're feeling extra bold, then get the greek fries with feta cheese on top. The gyros are also very satisfying.
I've caught myself here a handful of times over the years. It's the best place to go when you want a casual night of good food in a low key area.
"Meh" describes perfectly how I feel about Suni's. We go there once in a while because it's in Shoreline and we like to support local businesses, but the service and quality ranges from average to not-so-great. The servers can be preoccupied and inattentive; it seems at times like maybe the local high school cheer team was hired for some kind of work project. Almost every time we've eaten there, something was either forgotten or wrong on our meal.
The burgers are pretty big, and taste fine, but the fries tend to be a bit greasy and mushy. I tried the "Greek Fries" but for almost $4, apparently all you get is a little bit of feta sprinkled on the regular fries. And the cook on duty last time we went didn't actually appear to have heard of the Greek Fries, so maybe what I got wasn't what was intended.
The shakes are one bright spot on the menu; large and rich and thick, made with real stuff; these are not your fast-food shakes. In the future, I think I'll order food elsewhere and stop at Suni's for a milkshake.
The lamb gyro was delicious! Everything was fresh and I liked the added flavor from the sliced cucumbers in the gyro.
I really enjoyed my meal here. Mainly because the host was so nice and attentive, and the food was fresh and tasted good. I wasn't a big fan of the fries (fresh cut) because I prefer the ones from frozen, but enjoyed my gyro. Their prices are reasonable for the amount of food they give you. This seems like the popular place for burgers. I will definitely come here next time for those.
Good for: burgers, milk shakes, drive-in feel, service
Today, I ordered a kid's burger for my five-year-old daughter. When I picked up her plate, I looked at her half-eaten burger AND IT WAS RAW INSIDE. A regular burger being cooked a little too rare, okay - but a kid's burger? Ridiculous. Will never eat there again. And I will be reporting them to the health department.
I've picked up a couple pizzas here and they've been decent plus the staff was friendly, even though they always seem a little scattered when I stop in.
I also tried the vegetarian burger and it was pretty good too. I like that they have a good amount of fresh toppings (cucumber, sweet red onions) and a nice bun to hold it all together. The regular burgers were deemed passable by my partner, although he thought they were drowning in mayo, a condiment he'd rather restaurants left off burgers altogether.
The reduction in stars comes from a very bad experience I had with their delivery service. I live barely a mile away from Suni's so it isn't a problem to pick stuff up, but after a long day we were very tired and just wanted something brought to us. We called, were told our order would be 30-40 minutes. An hour later, no order. We called again and were told the driver was having trouble finding us but would be there soon. 1.75 hours after we placed our order still nothing, so we called again and were told the driver had returned to the restaurant with our meal undelivered because he couldn't find our house and if we wanted our (old and cold) food we were welcome to come pick it up.
Now why couldn't the driver called to say he was lost? Or the restaurant have called us to say there was a delay or that delivery wasn't going to happen? Its not like we are out of their delivery area, or even in a really hard to find place (one block off a main intersection). Instead we had to wait close to two hours before finding out we weren't getting our food, and then having to order a pizza from a second rate place because after all that time no one else was delivering at that hour.
They also charge a delivery fee. $5 IIRC.
Suni's is as good as it gets here in Shoreline. Pretty tasty burgers, yummy Gyros, salads etc. The Greek fries are really something. Feta and herbs on hand cut fries? Oh yeah. The salads are tasty and the burgers are a-ok. I usually go for the avocado-bacon burger.
The one, ok two, gripes I have about this place are the prices (a little steep) and the wait staff (a little snooty and cold). Rarely a smile. Is it really too much to ask? Yes, I know, pretty young waitresses get hit on relentlessly by male patrons, but does that mean you have to be so cold? Service with a smile ends up in your pocket as tips, remember that!
So I agree with the general consensus. I really like the food, but it is pricey. If i want a 10 dollar burger, i will go to red robin, where at least if im not fille dby the ginormous burger, i can have unlimited fries to fill my tummy.
I seem to hazily remember the pre-remodel sunis burgers and the old owners. The food was inexpensive, really really tasty and an awesome deal. They have changed the look of the building, the ownership, and the prices.
Still the same menu, but the food doesnt taste remotely the same. I used to absolutely love their greek special (greek salad and a gyro.) Last time I ordered a lamb and beef gyro, (ehhh probably about 10 months ago) the meat was tough and chunked up into the gyro, it had huge hunks of raw onion and i was just dissapointed as hell because i used to get great gyros here!!
It makes me sad that this place has gone slightly downhill since i first tried it 8 years ago.
I live next door to Suni's and it is HORRIBLE. Not the food or anything, the food is fantastic. It's horrible that I live next door to it because I want to eat there ALL OF THE TIME! The pizza is delicous and the burgers are SO freaking good! They have an great selection of food and the milkshakes are really delicious! I get take out from here at least once a month, and get milkshakes all the time. They staff is really nice and the food comes out pretty fast. It's a little pricey but deifnately worth it. They also deliver which i've been tempted to do sometimes (yes I live next door, sometimes I get lazy!). I have gotten it delivered to my work before and the food was still hot and fantastic.
I've only had pizza here a few times, but every time was great! They are a bit pricey (but worth it for the quality) Unfortunately, that's all I can vouch for right now, but I'm sure I'll eventually try out some of their other food.
If you're looking for a great place to get some pizza, and not afraid to spend some extra cash, Suni's is a good choice.
I have been there a few times. I love their menu selections. A quick wait and service. Love food that is in good temperature and that fills me up. Very affordable.
Suni's is a bit confusing - is it Italian? Is it Greek? There's Pizza AND Burgers? And Gyros?
That's about their entire menu. I had the blue cheese & bacon burger. Very good, although it looked like a Costco patty.
Not too much ambiance, but there are two TVs for watching the game while inhaling a burger and a brewski.
All-in-all, a good place to get a basic meal.
Forget the mega-chains that turn out the same thing day after day after day. Suni's is a local pizza shop that will give you more than just the usual pie. Mouthwatering sandwiches, garlic fries that will send you in ecstacy, gyros that will have you speaking Greek....mmmmm. I think I'll call them up right now and put in my order.
Suni's has been doing things right since 1974 and they've got it down to a science....or maybe an art.
Head north, young man, where its Suni all the time.
I've had really good hot sandwiches here and then other times it seems like their just heating up frozen patties. So the jury is still out.
I go for the burgers and gyros, my wife goes for the Greek salad, and my kids go for the subs, and none of us have been disappointed yet. One of these days we'll order ourselves a pizza, but why mess with a good thing? The wait staff is young and helpful, but seating can be an issue in the winter (there's plenty of outdoor seating available in the summer) so ordering take-out is highly recommended...so I can have a seat when I come in!
Suni's appears to have listened. My fav lunch now only sets me back $8.00 AND comes with fries.... YAY!!!

Apparently this is THE place to head out for burger, pizza, and sandwiches in Shoreline, and it didn't take me long to figure out why. I couldn't stop saying "So good!" , and "mmmmmm" after every bite of my lamb gyro- seriously, and their Greek fries with feta- FRIES and CHEESE, what else could a girl want?
Went here last week and the service there is top notch. Always attentive and making sure my visit there was PERFECT. It was a 4 star trip. First thing I did notice was how pricey it was for a dine-in restaurant in shoreline. I was expecting a sandwich to be 5-6 MAX, but they are like 7-8. I know I know its only a 1-2 difference, but a college student on a budget...It is a BIG difference. Friend and I split a classic peperoni pizza. It wasn't jumping out of my shoes good, but it was definately good. Definately better then your classic Pizza Parlors (Dominos, Pizza Hut, etc). The overall service, appeal, and food here is top notch. I have to come back for the burgers, BLTC, and other things that people listed in the reviews.
Along with the other reviews, I am also baffled why they are offering pizza AND burgers. Sticking with one would cause more consistent quality and may have kept me from going elsewhere when I'm in the neighborhood.
I love Suni's! You can get a good meal for a good price. I am hooked on the BLTC, bacon, lettuce, tomato and cheese. It's served on a fresh roll and it is tasty. I recommend getting the onion rings instead of the fries.... it's a lil more cost wise, but worth it. The kid's meals are BIG and a great price. The greek gyros are good too. I never have had anything I didn't like. My sister works across the street and eats there often. The staff is always really friendly too.
Suni's is a bit pricey, but nice once and a while! I love their BLTC and this one delicious italian sandwich with pepperoni, salami, cheese(I'm sorry I don't remember the name). It is kind of confusing with pizza, burgers and greek food floating around the menu, but I have to say I love their gyros! Very good. Only complaint is the fries: they are so oily and greasy. Probably a larger size fry version of Dick's fries. But if you coat them in their good tartar sauce, your taste buds will be quelled and your stomach content.. for the moment at least.
While it might not be the best food you have ever had but a good reliable place to eat especially if you are in a hurry. With the help of a strong neighborhood following, there are always people eating, yet there is almost always an empty place to sit right away. The food is decent but most importantly it is consistent, you know what you are going to get everytime you go.
No offense to Suni or any of the fresh-faced workers servicing clients and holding down the food fort, but this place really needs to get its act together and give us poor customers some palate clarity. See, Suni's is supposed to be a "gourmet express" joint, but that term itself is confusing to both wallet and stomach.
From the outside it looks like a stop-and-go burger joint like Burgermaster, only the title "Pizza & Burgers" will confuse the heck out of you. Perplexed, you walk in and it's quaint enough: nothing fancy or hoity-toity, but it's clean and there are no rats or wild creatures lurking around. Decor is strikingly lackluster and aside from the two TVs hangin overhead, there's nothing about this place that screams upscale. Or even slightly upscale.
Then you get the menu and see that in addition to pizza and burgers, they also serve gyros and a limited selection of greek food! But, that title is too long, so you shrug and think it interesting, wanting to give Suni and the crew the benefit of the doubt. It's when your eyes settle on the price attached to each item that you are really in for a surprise: $10 burgers?? $13 small pizzas?? Still unshaken, you tell yourself that you're in for a mighty gigantic and delicious quasi-gourmet meal...right? Wrong. The food was fine: nothing spectacular, nothing gross, it was satisfying but forgettable. I got the BBQ chicken sandwich ($8.95) and my boyfriend got the New York steak burger ($9.95) and it was edible enough, but with prices like that, you would expect better quality meats and larger portions. You would expect some savory, mouth-watering morsels. For about a third of that price I could have gone to Orange King on the Ave and gotten an equally delicious grilled chicken burger and been just as satisfied, maybe moreso because I wouldn't have to spend $9 for the same full-stomach sensation!
There's just nothing remarkable about Suni's except the fact that it has a very confused menu that features a multitude of cuisines. If you want a very confusing dining experience, feel free to stop by, but I certainly won't be returning anytime soon.
Best gourmet burger in Shoreline and surrounds period. Pizza is good, but not the best. Real cut fries, shakes, and, oh, the Greek Salad? Amazing.
