Used to love this place. I changed my mind cause
1. They started making clothes in China.
2. Not very good customer service.
Lots of classic pieces here, and great for work as many have stated. I have one wrap/kimono-style dress from here. I always get a ton of compliments whenever I wear it. It's very simple and chic, as are all their other pieces.
It IS definitely pricey, but the fabrics and cut are comfortable and clean. There was the Aiko top that I wanted when I first went in (more than a year ago), but it was out of stock. They told me they'd give me a call when and if they made more cuts in the future, since it was a very popular one (they still have it even). True to their word, they called right when a new shipment arrived.
I can't afford to shop here that often, but I still love it!
sometimes a girl just needs the basics, something tailored and cut well that she can put on to see clients and not incur any raised eyebrows- basically, innocuous daytime wear. this is because in my free time my man says i usually like to dress like i think i'm jackie o, or sometimes like i think it's 1969 and i'm a dusty springfield/dolly parton hybrid. truthfully, neither of those actually say "i'm a professional. please entrust me with your money", they kind of say "please quit back combing your hair, it's the year 2008."
sunhee moon is a great place to purchase stuff that is more interesting than banana republic but not as sassy as say candystore. you can also feel good knowing it's made in america and the blood of the children is still on kathy lee's hands, not yours.

I live in the neighborhood and really love and respect all the business establishments around me. Until ....
My Mom came to visit and I showed her around the neighborhood. We were walking back up 16th when I saw a pair of Tom's shoes in the window and we decided to go in and look at them. Frankly, my mother is overweight, and I am not exactly a twig myself.
We walked in and went straight to the shoes but were stopped by a snide worker who proceeded to tell us their sizing system. I'm sure they're told they have to tell everyone that walks in, but having this girl tell my Mother their largest size was a large, look her up and down, and turn around walk away boiled my blood. It was just the way she said it. We promptly left. I'll buy my Tom's from Urban Outfitters then, thanks.
Not to mention my friend got hired there, and after working her first shift received a phone call explaining they had hired someone "older" and she'd be mailed her check.
Thumbs down.

I admire the fact that an independent clothing designer can thrive while only making a line of solid colors. Me likey, but I think Tim Gunn and Heidi would "Auf" Sunhee for a little more Chris March.

They always have beautiful clothes in the display, but unfortunately, that is only achieved if you buy the entire outfit including accessories. The clothes on their own are nicely tailored but not very interesting.
Pricey to boot. I try to buy clothes that look like they are worth more than I paid for them. This store is the other way around. What am I paying all this money for? I can't tell.
This store is a dangerous place for me.
All I really wanted to do was browse the racks, see what's new, check out some fabulous jewelry, try on a skirt or two and then possibly... JUST MAYBE... indulge my-already-in-debtors-prison-self with JUST ONE item that I had to have.
But NOOOOOOOOOO.....
I curse thy shop lady for providing great customer service and picking out and bringing me all kinds of cute stuff for me while in the dressing room which were all so BEAUTIFULLY tailored and just plain CLASSIC and FABULOUS..... that i HAD to have!
And they are all "made with love in San Francisco"
Nice clothes, really cool jewelry & great customer service (damn those shop ladies!)

Now, normally, I don't walk into fancy stores just because I know they won't have my size or price range. My friend wanted to check it out and the first thing said to us was a description of size ranges. For a clarification, my friend asked what a size 6 would be and the response was a large. First of all, let us in the store, maybe I want to buy expensive sunglasses or jewelry before you scare us out.
My friend did try on one dress and when it didn't work they found another that was great.
The second sales person was much warmer and friendlier. Even though I wasn't shopping, she was still chatty and friendly.

The clothing is classic and so won't go out of style quickly. I agree some items don't seem to have the best quality zippers, etc. for the price. The sales people have always been very friendly to me and it cracks me up how they tell you everything looks GREAT on you, even if I don't agree, they really want to sell. I have a nice jacket I got there years ago that I still wear & love as well as a cute long sleeved blouse but a skirt I bought on sale has had zipper issues from the start. They also had really cute jewlrey & accessories the last time I went there but it has been years.
I am hideously afflicted by the need to go into any women's clothing shop with the sign "SALE" on it.
So, after resisting entering Sunhee Moon for a year and a half (even from the outside, I could tell this was the kind of place that could do serious damage to my wallet), I saw a sale sign and had to enter.
I like the designs: simple, a good range of colors, clothes that fit the body well, designs that flatter without being over the top.
However, I am not so keen on their sizing system. I need a little more range than a 1 for small and 2 for medium. Moreover, I wasn't confident that I was getting such a great deal for the money.
Now, having read some of the other Yelpers reviews on the quality of the clothes, I probably will not end up getting the dress that I've been agonizing over all afternoon.
Thanks, Yelpers.

Nicely laid out store. Looks hip and inviting. Only problem is, the price doesn't match the goods. I'd rather go to American Apparel - cheaper, same idea. I do admire Ms. Moon's ability to stay in the game.
Sunhee Moon is one of the best places in the city to go for hip, hot clothes that you can wear to work (if you work in a professional setting as I do). I bought a few awesome skirst there - the Helen, the Nicole -- and they both look great with several different kinds of tops. I wear them with tiny sweaters and long tank tops, or button down blouses with little vests, and even with a halter top and a jacket. The fit of the clothes are really amazing.

Sunhee Moon is a wonderful place to buy streamlined, modern, fabulous clothes in sizes 1(S), 2(M) and 3(L). Every time I wear full moon, I get compliments. They generally relate to my clothes.
Yes, you could easily spend a paycheck here. But isn't it worth a little extra cash for fashionable LOCALLY made clothes sewn by people paid prevailing wage? And can you put a price on buying a size 3 skirt when you are normally in the double digits? It just feels so good.

Purchased a shirt here, didn't notice the orange juice stains down the front until packing for a month-long work trip the next day, and was not allowed to return it because I had past the 7 day limit. Have also purchased pants that ripped on the first wearing. Never again.
Can read the full story in my review for the Fillmore St. store, where I tried to return the shirt.

I've bought clothes from Sunhee Moon a few times. The clothes are extremely adorable yet sophisticated and San Francisco made.
After the first two times, I couldn't wait to go back and get more. However, after my third shopping excursion there, I finally realized that there's always something slightly off about the items purchased and it's not a fluke. Let's see.... zipper doesn't zip very well on skirt, seam on different skirt isn't straight, shirt shrunk even when I followed cleaning instructions and the list goes on. For the price of the clothes, it shouldn't fall apart that easily.

I'm into the klassy basics that Sunhee creates, but shopping here is such an unpleasant experience. They put the hard sell on, hard core.

I am ridiculously affected by even the slightest bit of celebrity, so when my bud Bo took me to Sunhee Moon--and Sunhee Moon herself was there, working--my heart did a little pitterpat pitterpat. And then it did it more, because the clothes OH the clothes are beautiful! Wonderfully made, excellently arranged, completely enticing. I might have to save up to go again, now that my day of EXTREMESHOPPINGANDSOMUCHMONEY has ended. I'm very happy with my purchases, but I was a little disappointed that some of the skirts (and definitely the pants) didn't fit well in the hips. But, I'm used to that (it's this peasant blood of mine).

I love Sunhee's clothes, especially the pants. They make me look taller, which I desperately need. Their accessories are also very cute and unique. I love her t-shirts and I have about every jacket she's ever had. Very simple, very chic, sophisticated clothing...kind of a "less is more" attitude.

Came here with my roommate today to pick up some items since they ran out of a top in her size at the Fillmore location. I ended up getting a top, pants, and a pair of cute gold leaf earrings. Thanks Sunhee Moon!

Need something new in the wardrobe staple department? The designs maximize a certain simplicity that isn't overly simplified. I had two tops from here that I actually wore out before I grew tired of them...which is not to say these are not well-made. Quite the opposite--each lasted a couple of years in heavy rotation.

I cringe when I think about how much I spent on a black skirt here. But then I put the skirt on, see how nice and perky it makes my butt look (one of my coworkers whistled at me in a semi-harassing way), and forget, momentarily, about the cost.
The woman working when I bought the skirt was very sweet and helpful. Also, they tell you this when you come in but the sizes here are 1, 2, 3 for S, M, L. I was momentarily confused by that.

I went to Sunhee Moon looking to add some sophistication to my wardrobe, and was impressed with the quality and variety of the designs. The saleswoman was so welcoming and friendly that I felt okay trying on 10 different things and in the end only buying one shirt (marked down).
Maybe I'm a little young for the target market, but I found the prices somewhat prohibitive (all pants seemed to be in the $100-$200 range and shirts in the $80-$100 range), and the styles and fabrics a tad on the too-formal-to-be-practical-side. My style's a bit funkier (read: cheaper), but if I worked in the financial district, I would invest in many many beautiful outfits from Sunhee Moon.

Great clothes in intersting cuts, colors and fabrics. I discovered Sunhee Moon tromping around the Mission shortly after moving to SF and I am never disappointed when I'm in need of a cool skirt. Everyone needs an orange skirt. Really.

A fabulous local designer for San Francisco. Except she's not on Fillmore anymore, she's in the Mission at 3167 16th Street. Super-flattering designs and a wonderful shopping experience -- check out the cute silk belt-sashes for jeans if they still have them. Sunhee's designs are amazingly wearable, while also being unique and chic. The designs can also be shopped online at www.sunheemoon.com.

I'm more a fan of their online store, mainly because I no longer live in San Francisco. They have a very lovely, focused assortment of styles I would call functional, classic and progressive - the kind of fashion you can wear to brunch or a nice dinner.

Yay, a store that understands the beauty of the boutique basic. By that I mean, clothes I could wear to work or to teach without sacrificing style. When I'm off my shopping hiatus, I'll definitely revisit Sunhee Moon and stock up.

Her original store WAS in the Mission, with an additional store on Fillmore Street between Sutter and Bush St. Prices on her blouses seem much much higher. But she is getting featured in more NY fashion magazines.

The clothes are great. Perfect for the person who wants a funky work wardrobe. A lot of really nice heavyweight jersey knit tops that are a slight twist on classic cuts/forms.

Every time I take a contract job I don't really want to do (but need the money), I promise myself a trip to Sunhee Moon as a reward. Love the cuts--love the fabrics. And the gals there are really nice, even when you're not buying a lot.

I bought several knit tops and a pair of pants here but sadly don't think I'd ever shop there again for a long time. The sales staff were super nice (not really pushy so much as persistently friendly, trying to find at least 'one more thing' for you to buy), but, for the price, the quality of the clothes just was NOT there. I bought a stretchy knit top that started to fuzz and ball up the first time I washed it...not what I expected for the high price I paid for it. Also, I think the pants at this place really are not fitted well at all. I tried on so many and all of them sagged or bulged in the wrong places. Sure we all have different body types and not every pant will fit every woman, but I've never had this much trouble. Maybe back to the drawing board to find a better fitting pant design??

I went in here to find something cute and colorful for brunches and spring parties and walked out with two black pieces of clothing to add to the other 99+ black items of clothing in my wardrobe. But it's all good, cause the sales associate showed me some killer ways of accessorising with scarves and jewelery that will make the top and skirt look really hot.
A bit pricey, but the quality is really good and I can see myself wearing these pieces for many different occasions-work, dinner, the above mentioned brunches......
I've been following the styles this store sells for a couple years now, but I have never yet purchased anything. The website had been frequently out-of-date (which is a wake-up call: when your website is out of date, it says something about how attentive you are to details about your business). I actually like the styles, don't like the prices, not really keen on their sizing, and never studied the products long enough to determine if quality was an issue. Ignoring my past experience in the store, today I saw something that was concern I thought yelpers should know about: the Mission store was closed when I walked by, but when I looked inside I saw a dog barking at me and my friends. The dog seemed very upset, and no one was in sight inside. If you don't care about the fact that they shut up an animal inside the store (possibly unattended) like I do, then maybe you won't like what else I saw: the animal was sitting and jumping and walking around ON the folded shirts on the shelf-space under the table. At over a hundred+ dollars a shirt, I do not like the idea of purchasing an article that an irate dog has been stomping on. Pets that get upset with owners for shutting them inside unattended have been known to get attention by misbehaving (damaging surroundings) and defecating (possibly on shop goods, in a store, would be pretty attention-getting).
By the way, if you walk into the shop and happen to buy a light blue top (similar to the one in the picture) anytime soon, you might want to consider laundering it.
i love sunhee moon. the nicest people work there and the clothes are cut SO well. the prices are about the same as banana republic but not everyone will be wearing the same thing as you. the pants fit like a dream. i'm not sure what that means exactly but they fit realllllllly well (without tailoring to shorten them! ow!) and they last for years...i am wearing a pair right now that i bought 3 years ago! also, sunhee donates to Rocket Dog Rescue and her friend adopted the cutest pit bull from us so I am all about this place. Sunhee Moon ROCKS!

I'm a huge advocate of local designers. I try and shop only at "San Francisco" centric boutiques -- but everytime I have bought something from this place, it has either fallen apart, hems come undone, fit is not right after dry cleaning or worse yet -- the dye starts to bleed! For the prices that are charged here, the quality control has got to get better. The staff is always nice, but have a tendency to become pushy -- sort of like an Amway sales person (if you buy this blouse, you really should get the matching skirt...blah, blah, blah).
The layout of the store is always cool but in general, the styles never change.

Cool colors and comfortable designs but I couldn't find anything fit me. Size 1 is the smallest they have and it is too big for small figure asian girl. Disappointed but I can see why people love her stuff. When she makes size 0 or Petite, I will try again.
