I wish it wasn't such a long walk from the office - but it's a great cafe and the staff is uniformly friendly, warm, and engaging.

Also, they've got good coffee, tea, and cocoa!  That's nice, too!

I think they have the best coffee in the neighborhood, perhaps even better than Philz.  My experience with the staff is that they range from indifferent to civil.  Never rude, but also never terribly friendly.   I appreciate that it's a clean place with lots of windows and outdoor seating, but I rarely find myself lingering there since it doesn't really call out to me to sit and stay.

Unlike at Starbucks, you are greeted with a warm, friendly and sincere hello & smile here at Sundance.

The place is small, cute & homey and they offer free wi-fi.

I'd been wanting to try them out for quite some time and finally did today.  I got a regular coffee which I found to be tasty, smooth & nutty.  Much better than Starbucks but not as good as my beloved Peet's.

As others have written, the coffee here is pretty darn good.  Staff is friendly, decor is fairly warm, and it's quiet enough in spots to do conference calls.

There isn't a ton of post-breakfast food.  A few pre-packaged salads and a half dozen sandwiches were in the case today, but there were plenty of pastries to go 'round.  In their favor, they'll happily toast your bagel for you.

A few have noted slow Wifi.  Cable modem speeds it ain't, but it's free, and it's enough for email, IM, and laggy YouTube.

I get very picky when it comes to coffee shops. They're usually the only places I can focus and get work done. This place WOULD be perfect, but the wifi seems to be unreliable. It's free, which of course is great, but it was slow, didn't always connect to certain sites or needed multiple refreshes to connect.

That said, I'll continue to come here and slug through the poor connection. The coffee WAS really good. I'm not one to notice when my latte is exceptionally good, but I took one sip and thought it was GREAT. The person working there was very friendly and quick, very reasonable price, and I thought the furniture there was comfortable enough to focus and do work (but not so comfortable that I fall asleep and wake up hours later being stared at by a stranger. Uh... yeah.) Lots of windows, so it was bright but not overwhelming.

So unless I went on a day where the wifi was worse than normal, I'd say totally go here unless you REALLY need the internet for something pressing.

Tasty latte, nice and hot. The music was hip and not too annoying. I actually turned off my iPod to listen in for a while. The decor feels a bit sparse, but the alternative (overcrowded and busy) would probably be worse. Overall, I liked spending a little time here. I don't make it to this neighborhood often, but if I did, I would surely return.

I think it's a pretty sweet place in a great location.  Since 3rd Street is seeing a revitalization with new businesses and a lot of grad students from CCA, SFAI, and UCSF transiently traveling up and down the street, you get some cool people patronizing Sundance.  It's got a wide array of tea, which is actually the only thing I really noticed.  Not the biggest beverage selection and they don't really sell food (they do but not a whole lot), which rather peculiar.  Then again, this part of town doesn't see an incredible amount of foot traffic.  Overall, a great place in the morning but they close early (6 PM on week days) - Boo!

They make a fine latte, but they're hardly ever open and barely have any food (at least on Sundays).  The latte has plenty of foam and it's fairly strong (not as strong as Peets) without being overwhelming or bitter.  Well-rounded flavor.  The coffee is organic and fair trade too.

The conveniences are here: bathroom, free wi-fi, two power outlets, ample seating, clean tables, fair prices ($3.20 for a 20 oz. large latte), credit cards accepted, and even easy parking (!)

The place looks corporate like a Starbucks.  Light wood floors, hanging light fixtures, bright.  I like the velvet curtain and the room with the upholstered chairs and sofa but they also have stools if you want to hang out and gaze out on Third St.  It's in the middle of a warehouse area that I normally never go to and right by the T line stop.  There isn't much nearby that I can see.

The food could be improved both in terms of quality and quantity.  I came on Sunday morning and saw three bagels in the pastry case, along with three scones, 3 muffins and not much else.  They had some wraps in the refrigerated case.  The lemon poppyseed muffin ($1.70) was okay but bland.  And then the hours are ridiculous.  They closed at noon on Sunday (even though their site says they close at 1 PM)!

As far as coffee and coffee places go, I like Peet's and I like this Sundance location.  (Starbucks I tolerate if I have to go there becuase there's nothing else.) The coffee is good here and the staff will inform you of which are the higher-caf blends, etc. They also try to get to know their regulars.

It's a handy location right in front of a T stop (just like the old days of business springing up on the corners where the streetcar stops), and parking is easy. I'm so glad they opened here.

Sundance is a really wonderful addition to the area.

Marina's right - their chai latte (both iced and hot) is amazing. Whenever I'm in the area, and looking for a good place to kick back and relax - Sundance is a perfect stop.

I always get their chai, and my bf's a big fan of their coffee with an extra espresso shot.

They offer free wireless.

They're rarely packed.

They get great light and have large open windows which are wonderful for people watching.

And the staff are always pretty friendly and laid back.

I only wish Sundance was open later and I'd be hanging around here alot more often.

Once everybody discovers all the quirky cafes in the area, you have to move on. Living in South Beach, once all the other coffee places were discovered by other people, we had to move on.  Sundance is great because they serve fair trade coffee and they are in an "up and coming" neighborhood.  Once Sundance becomes super popular, we might have to move on to something else, but for now, Sundance is the place to be.   I love Sundance coffee!

I love this coffee shop. It's in an out of the way place unless you are already in Dog Patch. These guys totally got me hooked on organic coffee. Tasty tasty tasty! The food is good when they have it and decent prices. Free wifi? Yep, don't know why every coffee shop doesn't have this until they don't want your business. The staff is ALWAYS friendly and sometimes flirtatious, but always in a good way. I love that they are now hanging local artists. gotta support the arts. I'm happy to see other locations opening but this one is always my favorite.

I hang here but the really best part of this place is the free wireless and ample space to work.

Excellent place for the neighborhood. I frequent the joint.

Another great San Francisco establishment.   I go to Sundance when I need to really get down and get some work done.  The music is always good, the people who work there are always friendly and the coffee is excellent.  The free wireless ain't so bad either.  Sometimes I spend an entire day there and I leave feeling accomplished and well nourished.  The chai lattes are out of this world too.

I don't really get out to Dogpatch much, but I was here early for an interview and decided to kill some time at Sundance.

Hearkening back to my inner 15-year-old, I had a white mocha freeze. It was a hot day, all right? Don't judge me. Anyway, it was amazing. It came in a fairly large size cup too, so I got to savor it for a nice, long time.

The atmosphere's great... big layout, mellow but not boring music, and super friendly baristas who treat both regulars and newbies like gold.

Another thing I appreciate is the fairly traded, eco-friendly coffee. I feel great about supporting something like that, you know?

The only reason I took away a star is because this place is only open til 6pm. COME ON, PEOPLE! Don't you think there is a market for late night coffee in this town?! Oh well. Come before 6pm, and you'll enjoy it a lot.

Clean and bright spot in the Dogpatch with great coffee, pretty yummy pastries (especially the peach and something scone), and very friendly employees.  With free Wi-Fi and reasonable prices (cf. PIccino), this place is a true jewel in my 'hood.

This week I'm starting with Sundance Coffee. So far so good - - internet is GREAT (it's secured and they'll give you the password) and the coffee is STRONG. I got the mild and it reminds me of my Starbucks days, except the coffee is "all organic and fairly traded," so I can get my buzz without guilt. Food is standard, the staff are very friendly and convenient for all PT riders (CalTrain, bus, and T-Third... eventually). Highly recommended for students who need a change of scenery from the library (lots of room to spread out)... good addition for Dogpatch.

Sundance is great. I've had mochas from coffee establishments all over the city. Starbucks is too chocolaty, Peet's too bitter, Noah's never hot enough, but Sundance gets it perfect every time. I always run in to get one while waiting for the T in the morning, and even if there's only 4 minutes till arrival, I know that I can get in and out of Sundance with a coffee in plenty of time!

Sundance has totally spoiled me. The coffee here is so damn good that I have a hard time going anywhere else now. I think I've used and abused their brown sugar in ridiculous amounts too. But as good as the coffee is, the staff is even more awesome. I couldn't ask for a nicer / more sarcastic group of people. I love it. I sneak out of work for extra coffee breaks just to hang out here! Oh, and all the coffee is fair trade too, so that makes me feel a lot better than buying "coffee" at crappy ass Starbucks.

On another note, since it's located in the Dogpatch, it hasn't been overrun by hipsters yet. Definitely a plus in my book.

Imagine that the Starbuck's on the corner decided to rebel. To quit the chain and go indie. So they...

1. Started using organic fair trade coffee
2. Replaced the Tmobile wifi with free wifi
3. Changed the music to woxy.com
4. Changed their name to Sundance Coffee.

That's what this place feels like. Personally I liked it, except for the lack of power outlets.

Great coffee ... and free wireless.

It would get 5 stars but food selection is sparse (prepackaged sandwiches, salads, muffins, bagels, etc) and it feels too sterile and clean for me to relax - hard wood floors, marble table tops ... but there are a couple comfy chairs in the back.

Bonus points for organic, free trade coffee.  And the people that work here are cool and friendly.

4/5 coffee
4/5 atmosphere
5/5 service
3/5 food

This place used to be a an old, beat up, window boarded, carpet and flooring place before sundance moved in and gave it a facelift. Its a great addition to the dogpatch. Its my morning stop every day (sometimes two or three times a day depending on how deadlines are). They close at 6 which isn't bad since the rest of the dogpatch pretty much shuts down around 4 or 5. pastries are very tasty but havent been too happy with prepackaged salads and wraps. but the staff is really friendly and laid back.

Totally agree with the Yelpers before me...  great coffee above all else.

- The sparse, sterile environment takes minimalist to an extreme
- Needs more food; only cold sandwiches or salads for lunch
- The really good coffee makes up for it

Great place if you want to swoop in and out for a cup of joe, but not the most comfy spot for all-day laptop warriors.  Maybe this is by design.

in my world, there are three main things a cafe must have to make it worth going back to....1) great freakin coffee 2) concious coffee (ie:fair trade) 3) friendly staff. I could care less about scones...Id rather feel secure in the knowing that my pre-coffee grumpyness will be handled with care from a lovely smiley barista.  Appreciate that everything is fair trade, it a great thing...including those awesome Alter Eco chocolates on the counter! sundance = yummy.

I love me some Sundance. An easy 1 block walk from my pad, doing the morning Sundance ritual is always pleasant. The staff are super happy and nice, more so than I tend to be before coffee. Free wifi though the one time I've tried it, it kept disappearing on me. Others have reported no problems. I just hope they get enough business to stay open. After 10am, it can be a ghost town in there. Third street light rail is firing up soon, so I'm sure they'll do just fine.

Only a business petrified of going belly-up llike a body in the Bay could ever be this cordial, attentive and all around great. That;s an endorsement. I'm not saying they're nervous, I'm just saying they make a mean Chai and are always, in the words of every Valley girl, "like, soooo nice." Way too nice for a neighborhood that looks like Thriller after 6 pm.

The place is really cute and the coffee is great, but I went there to work and their internet is horrible. My web pages weren't loading and after about 20 minutes of waiting for the internet to work, I had to pack up my stuff and leave. I talked to the girl behind the counter about it and they said it's because they have satellite not dsl. I love the idea of free internet, so I guess I cant ask for too much, I just cant work there.
