Naysayers be damned!  Putting your complaints to the test, I visited in the peak of summer on a Saturday night and it was a madhouse.  It'd have taken me 30 minutes to park, but I had the foresight to rent a house in walking distance.

The line zipped fast. Maybe it took 10 mins, probably less given the abundance of teenagers ready to take our order, from memory, thank you very much.  We ordered 2 kiddie cones with sprinkles, 1 small sundae, and a single serve cone. All told, the cost was $13 even. That's pretty good and not the $7 for a cone others complained about.

The ice cream is homemade and the ice cream snob in me thought it was very good. Not the best, but kudos for their effort. The real winner is the fresh whipped cream, which so few shops practice. The hot fudge is amazing, too. And the atmosphere of an old-fashioned parlor makes this worth the trip even on a busy summer night.

With an abundance of staff to not only direct traffic, but serve your every ice cream desire, this spot should satiate anyone looking for a good sugar fix. Any trip to Dennis would be incomplete without at least a visit - if not several - to The Sundae School.

This is probably the best ice cream shop I've ever been to.  It was kind of strange that they had a take out window but you couldn't order from it, but that was the only setback.

I went twice during our trip to Dennis recently.  We went around 3 or 4 both days and there was absolutely no wait.  The first day I got the pirate pandemonium ice cream (peanut butter ice cream with fudge swirl and chocolate pretzels) with hot fudge and whipped cream.  The whipped cream is real whipped cream so it was very heavy which actually made me kind of sick after eating the sundae.  But it was soooo good.

The other day I got a coffee oreo frappe.  It was a little thinner than I like frappes usually, but it was still absolutely delicious.

Based solely on the ice cream, I may give this place only 4 stars, but the atmosphere adds on that extra star.  It looks like an old fashioned ice cream parlor with a lot of outdoor seating available also.

Ice cream at the sundae school has been a vital part of my vacations on the Cape since I was a little boy. Now I take my kids here and I think they are even better. Tons of staff waiting to serve. I see why some might not appreciate the long lines, but they do their best to get you through quickly and the ice cream is awesome.

Take the kiddies for a sugar high but have granny stay in the car and ward off a fender bender. This place is a traffic zoo for the sweet crazed! The ice cream is good but the crowds can be crazy! Go at off peak hours. Maybe take the kids for an ice cream dinner! But don't take the sports car cause some brat will probably dent your door or spill sticky sweets on your fine leather interior!

This ice cream is not so good that it's worth waiting in line for half an hour or more.  Sometimes the after dinner rush here is so bad here that you can't even get into the parking lot!

When I was young and came to the Cape on family vacations, this is where we went.  We didn't know any better.  I've been back to Sundae School a few times in more recent years, and it's definitely a flood of memories.  Screaming kids, dirty diapers, the endless wait, the indifferent service.

I give it 3 stars only because if you miss the rush and come near closing time, the ice cream is almost worth it.  It's still a little too expensive, and there are certainly better options.

It scares me a little to stir up controversy in regards to Sundae School, because I know there's all you die-hards who have been coming here since you were in diapers on family vacations and whatever, so I'll let you all down easy: It's okay.  JUST OKAY.

Ah yes, the legend of Sundae School precedes it, so maybe part of the problem is really high expectations.  But its definitely not the best ice cream of my life -- it's probably more to do with the novelty of the experience of creating your own sundae... if you don't mind paying top dollar for it and waiting in a huge line too.
It all depends on what style of ice cream you like as well.  If you're into uber-rich and creamy, super-thick ice cream - similar to Coldstone - yeah you'll probably think Sundae School is the place to be!  I eat ice cream from this place and end up a little pissed off b/c its so grossly thick that:
1. It makes me a little ill and
2. I pay like $7 and can't come close to finishing a smaller size
But, to the ice cream's credit, it is all homemade and fresh.

I've gone back a few times hoping for the magic to happen, but it hasn't yet.  Sadly, we pretty much avoid it now.  It's still a neat experience if you've never been and for that it still deserves a 3 star approval - but this wouldn't really be my regular ice cream joint of choice.

I'm not a big ice cream eater, but apparently it's the thing to do on the Cape in the summer, so of course I had to acquiesce!  I was not disappointed!

There were about 20 flavors to chose from, all fresh that day.  I had sharks tooth, which was blueberry with chocolate chunks.  Absolutely delicious and very unusual.

The servers are college and high school students, and are super cheery and friendly, and the place is decorated with cute old signs and ice cream paraphernalia.  There is also an old player piano that still works.

Caveat:  the place gets crazy busy most nights and on weekends.

The ice cream is good- but seriously?  A police officer directing traffic and long lines?  There are other places on the Cape to get ice cream- and having tried Almond Joy at a few places, I dare say Sundae School is the not the best.

One of my friends brought me to this place several years back, and I have to agree with the other reviewers. This place is awesome and with a cute name!

Although, it gets really busy during the summer, the wait in line is well worth it.

If you're ever in the cape, you have to stop in at Sundae School!

What would the summer be without ice cream and what would the Cape be without Sundae School?

I have been coming here every summer with my family for as long as I can remember.  This place turns into a zoo with adults and kids alike on a mission to eat some of the best ice cream on the Cape.  Sundae School scoops it like it's no ones business!  They always have an interesting array of flavors all made fresh.  They have an interesting array of toppings and waffle cones for your sugary pleasure as well!

If you are somewhere on the Cape, Sundae School is a MUST.

I can't quite decide what makes this ice cream so amazing.  I think it has something to do with the fact that I crave it the moment I hit the Sagamore Bridge.  And with the fact that I can never decide between the flavors, and usually have to get two scoops and come back for a second trip later in the weekend.  I'm partial to RazOreo (in part because a friend of mine invented it when she worked here, I suppose), Banana Oreo, and Orange Dream, and any of their coffee flavors (mm coffee heath), especially drenched in hot fudge and topped with a real cherry.  The long summer lines move super quick - be patient because it's worth it.

**This location has a candy store and lots of indoor seating.

Rude service greeted me when I arrived. My girlfriend almost got into it with an employee. I decided we had to leave. My friends who live on the cape also agree.

Best ice cream ever!  The sundae school is home to the best sundae I have ever had in my life.  All of their ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream is home made.  Can I stress any more how amazing it is?  If you're vacationing down the Cape, you NEED to hit up the sundae school!  The inside has an old Nickelodeon and is decorated w/ college pennents of where the employees over the years go to (have gone) to school.  I want a sundae from there NOW!

So I thought it was just ok. I was expecting this to be the best ice cream I had ever had in my life....but no. I mean it was good, but I worked at an ice cream place in my hayday and I thought that their ice cream was just as good...maybe better. I got the raz-oreo. It had big chuncks of oreo in it, or should I say "chocolate cookie" and was all mixed in black raspberry ice cream. I had a small and the portion size was decent. I ordered a kiddie sundae for a freind and it was all whipped cream (we asked for light whipped cream, but they must have missed that). My total for a small ice cream and kiddie sundae was $8.85....that seems steep. Oh well, it is the Cape on Memorial Day weekend. However, as other yelpers have said, the liine does move fast. The scoopers behind the counter are very friendy. BTW....its cash only, I thought it was 2008, but I must be mistaken.

the night we went they had to direct traffic and they had parking lot attendants.  if they hadn't done that, we would have had to have gone somewhere else. ty Sundae School for that.  we proceeded to stand in line for our ice creams.  i got a simple chocolate dipped waffle cone filled with black rasberry chip ice cream.  so yummy...

Worth waiting in a long line for!  I only went there once but I loved it.  I got a scoop of pistachio and it was REALLY good pistachio.  It's also a lively place in the evening.
