The Sumter County Museum is located in downtown Sumter, inside of an old mansion. I was hoping for a museum that would feature a lot of Sumter history, especially photos of the city from decades past, so I could see what the area used to be like. I did see some of that, but mostly, it was general items of interest, about what life was like in the south during different periods, about US military history, and most prominently, life on the frontier in pioneer days.
A mini-village is set up on the back of the property, designed to represent life in pioneer times.
If you go, I would plan 60-90 minutes tops. Admission is free.
