We did some research on what type of wineries we wanted to visit before we came up to Santa Barbara and Summerland is better than I ever expected. The people that work there are so nice and knowledgeable. We joined the wine club and they let us take home the wine for that month right then and there. Which was really cool.

This place is a great place for wine.

I loved this place!  This little winery is easy to miss if you're not looking carefully for the small sign that says "wine tasting."  My husband and I came up to SB for a day trip and made our first stop at Summerland.

The wines are delicious!  They have an excellent tasting menu for $8/person ($12 if you want to keep the glass).  I'm usually not a fan of the rose wines, but they had a grenache rose that was excellent.  Their grenache wine was also very good, so we went ahead and purchased a bottle of that.  Their Trio was probably the best one we tried, but it's up there in price ($42/bottle)!

They also pour healthy portions!  Me likey!

The workers were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.    I think I'll come back the next time I'm in the area!

My fascination with Summerland started at Nico's one year when I was treated to dinner, and had a glass of their 2004 Pinot Noir.  Since then I had checked every single wine store, grocery store or any place that had a collection of pinots, and never found it at retail.

Two years ago, my Mom and I took the "Sideways" tour (sorry for the cliche, I know, I know) and when I remembered we were passing through Summerland, well, that was just a big "X" on the map of places to stop.

Since it was 2006 when we were last there, they still had plenty of 2004 Pinot, and like a complete and utter dipshit, I only bought 2 bottles. I'm not entirely sure what I was smoking that day. Nothing good, apparently.

At any rate, I ended up giving one of those bottles away to a very special, favoritest person who is also a pinot fan since I knew she'd appreciate it, and then all too quickly found myself right back where I started, with no plans to head back up to Santa Barbara County.

This past weekend we were in Ojai, and decided to spend the afternoon in SB, so we drove past...wait for it...the Summerland exit, at which I made the sudden veer off the freeway to beeline to the boutique.

I'm sad to report, that although the tasting staff is quite kind and the accommodations quaint and a nice place to mosey off the freeway, the 2004 is long gone, replaced with a 2006 that made me shudder.

Oh well. Dang it.

This place has an incredible Muscat.  Their other wines were tasty, too.  Our pourer didn't seem very knowledgeable about the wines, and didn't really give us any information, but it was still a good time anyway.

There is a very good 2006 Pinot Noir available here. I bought two bottles after a wine tasting here on a Sunday afternoon.

I couldn't wait to come to this tasting room because I've had their Pinot Noir at a few restaurants and loved it. However I was quite disappointed with my tasting room experience. The guy pouring the wine was not knowledgeable on the various wines being poured this day. He was less than enthusiastic about even being there, and he was not a good salesman. It seemed like he wanted to get us out of there even though we bought two bottles of wine. Not a real fun place to visit.

Came back here this past weekend with friends (michelle t and zach) and I must confess... this really is a top place to drink top quality wines.  The ladies that pour are so nice and always open up a bottle of their good stuff for me when I ask.  And let me tell you... it's a big kid pour too.  The Bien Nacido Pinot is truly amazing!
