Had a chance to go back to Sultans and it was much better this time. (It still has nothing on Dino's chicken, but I don't think anywhere does)

a tip: buy hummus to take home and save. its that good!

The rotisserie chicken here is ridiculously good. Skin is crispy, the meat is juicy and full of flavor (except the white meat may come off as dry but the garlic dip that I will mention later makes up for it). I always order the half chicken that comes with rice, salad, hummus, one huge pita bread, and a garlic dip. If you don't eat the chicken with the garlic dip, I'd be pretty upset at you. Just remember: Garlic dip is crucial. It's not super strong that when you talk to other people hours later they know what you had for lunch kind of stink, so don't worry.

I've never physically been to the place because I always get it delivered to my office, so I couldn't rate it based on the service and the people who work there. All I know is I order my food and they get to me in less than 30 minutes. Bazinga!

Got the half-chicken on advice from a friend, and wow, I was certainly impressed.

The place is a hole in the wall, you order at the counter and wait around in the crowded little room until your order is ready.  Be sure to figure out what you want beforehand - something tells me they don't have time for you to decide what you want once you get to the front of the line.

The hummus is delicious, but stay away from the baklava (an impulse buy once you get to the cashier) - it tastes pretty stale.

This review is exclusively about the hummus of Sultan.

Having spent half a year in a far away land where all transactions are made in hummus and every transaction is closed with hummus and hummus is used for toothpaste as well as coffee creamer, I know a little bit about the stuff. Indeed, in Jerusalem, the root of the entire Isra-P'stine quandary lies in the age-old question of which Hummusiya has the best fare. Many have died over the years in the name of garbanzo. Yet... in the chickpea, one might find the redemption of the entire world. But I digress.

Upon returning state side, I had hummus at a fish taco place in Huntington that will go unmentioned that was so miserable, tiny, grainy and flavorless that it put me in a coma for a week (it may have also been jet lag). I had been hesitant to eat any of the stuff unless it was made by Sabra brand which is more than passable.

Lo! Behold! Dearest Sultan! You have saved me from my crippling fear of bad hummus and taken me back from the edge of Mediterranean suicide. Your hummus is creamy, yet textured. It is full of GARLIC and more GARLIC. You do not serve it cheap, but you do serve it a-plenty and I am able to take mondo dips out of your unassuming styrofoam containers. Whence lathered upon your falafel balls, I fall into garbonzo heaven. Upon coupling with that insane garlic butter, one assumes the SUPERPOWER of repelling "Twilight" Freaks for a month.

Someone get this place a hummus medallion.

PARTY IN MY MOUTH!

The best hole in the wall Mediterranean food. Hands down. I've been to Zankous - portions too small, Ro-Ro's - food too bland, and this is the one that tasted juuust right.

I usually don't like white meat, but theirs is succulent and not dry at all. Crispy skin on the outside, tender on the inside. Hummus - smooth like an operator. Salad - OMG. Rice - better than yo mama's. All for just 7.50! After eating this, you'd probably think you just died and went to heaven after walking the streets of Broadway.

The staff is so funny, they remind DO remind me of Seinfelds soup Nazi but the chefs are super nice and the lady there is so endearing.

I'm coming again for the other stuff... breakfast ($3-5), Pita wraps ($5), Lunch specials:kebabs, ribeye steak, shawarma, falafel ($7.50-9) and more!

Horrible service, horrible food. Went here to grab lunch yesterday. Ended up waiting 25 minutes for my chicken salad and rice while watching the two chefs stroll around the kitchen without a clue.
My chicken was dry and unseasoned and the salad was borderline rancid. there are far too many good downtown lunch spots for this place to warrant your business.

I love the Sultan. Great food. Kind owner. Very friendly. The restaurant is small so don't plan on eating in but with nearby park or bench, you can have a great Mediterranean feast of flavors!

I don't eat meat but they have several delicious options, plates and the Sultan seems to want to satisfy you.

I take home the Sultan a few times a month. It's a great and easy dinner!

Sultan was a spot I've walked by a few times and meant to go into. I heard good things from friends, so today we gave it a try.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. In fact, it's the best lebanese food I've ever had! The only reason I didn't give it the fifth star is that it's kind of a dirty little hole in the wall, and the meals are served in styrofoam.

I ordered the shwarma lunch special which comes with a pita, some rice, Mediterranean salad and some very well made hummus. It was 8 bucks and was a good sized portion, enough for a little left over.

The chef was helpful and pleasant, which was nice. The only thing that wasn't awesome was that they apparently don't have tatziki sauce, which I found strange.

if only they had slightly better seating I would give it 5 stars ... I was in a hurry and needed something quick but I don't eat fast food generally.

I asked what was already cooked and the chef came over and personally recommended a meal based on what he had on the go.  I'll be back as soon as I can to try the fish!  My beef kebabs were amazing!

I pretty much agree with Betty B.  I had the chicken kabob, not the rotisserie chicken.  It was dry and not particularly tasty.  I loved the hummus though.  Very thick with delicious olive oil and tahini flavor.  The pita and salad were fine.  I'd go back--I just wasn't particularly impressed with anything but the hummus.

I actually liked the chicken kabob better when I tried it this month.  Good lunch option.

$7.50 vegetarian plate includes 3 falafel, salad (i would say like a Mediterranean cole slaw), hummus, mutabal (basically, baba ghanoush), tabbouleh, and one giant pita. the hummus and mutabal are incredibly tasty.

the interior is very hole in the wall, but they've got an 'A' and the food is great. i don't know how it compares to other downtown middle-eastern places such as falafel express and spitz, but when i find out i'll tell ya.

they're a little slow, but very friendly and supposedly offer free delivery.

I was so hungry because it was 2pm and I still had not eaten!  I was down to eat whatever while visiting my friend in downtown LA.  We walked around the block and saw this little restaurant.  First off, for such a small place, it was an "A" rating!!!  (That's sometimes rare, especially downtown.)  We went in and I got the sea bass.  (I wasn't in the mood for chicken that day.)  It was soooo good.  This place gives you such large portions.  Needless to say, I was full.  Plus they have a secret garlic sauce that the owner makes himself which is deeeliiicious!  Will definitely head back soon.

mouth watering spices, garlic paste and hummus.  i had falafal today which was good; but i love their roasted chicken plate and roasted chicken sandwich.  i don't really like the chicken kabob though. expect to spend $7-10 bucks with drink.  the area does look run down and could use some major remodeling!

I love this place.  I never found the chicken to be particularly dry (as other reviewers have commented), and the hummus is absolutely fantastic.  For a treat, pony up another dollar and get some baklava!  Delicious.

I just had my first Sultan experience and it was great. I didn't try the chicken, but had the vegetarian plate (#8). It was delicious! I'm always on the lookout for good tabbouleh because it's so good for you. You get lot of food for $7.50!

The Veggie Plate comes with 3 falafel, hummus, Mutabal (I think it's kind of like babaganoush (sp?)), tabbouleh, shredded cabbage salad (with mint- -yum!) and a giant pita. (ask them to grill the pita and it's heaven!)

It's tiny, with a few tables and some stools in the window. Also a few tables outside. Don't bring a bus load, but do go for lunch.  Oh, and they deliver too!

All four stars go to the half chicken plate as I've never really tried much else besides the beef schwarma and chicken kabobs.  Both okay, but if you want to be stuffed and happy eat the half chicken.  Comes with mint salad, hummus, rice, pita, and SUH-WEET garlic sauce, you're going to want extra.  About $7.00 for the meal, but tasty, yes, tasty.  Oh, and try to get in there before dinner time in case they run out of chickens.

I walked in here looking for some dinner after a long plane flight to LA, a Flyaway bus ride, and a red line metro ride. After checking into the Omni hotel, I started walking around downtown. I found Sultan, and I'm glad I stopped. I didn't know the menu, but the cook (Chef Alex?) made me exactly what I wanted--veggie kabobs, salad, and some hummus. I also had a falafel ball, which was excellent. The hummus is top notch and the grilled veggie kabobs were good too. This place has excellent service. If your organization springs for the Omni hotel downtown, take a little walk and check this place out.

This place is awesome.  After living a block away for two years, I was taking a walk and decided to try it out.  This has to be one the the best mediterranean resturaunts I have ever been to.  Now that I frequent there, the cef.owner, Alex knows what I want and it always perfect.  He is such a great person and always takes time out to ask how you are doing.  I really feel at home when I go there and everything is wonderful especially the hummus and garlic sauce.  Everything is made to order, and I am a fan of the Ckicken Kebob skewers-TO DIE FOR.

I have been ordering food from the Sultan since 2003.  I always get the "lunch special" 1/2 chicken Plate that comes with humus, salad, rice and pita bread for a modest $7.50 (tax is included in all of their prices).  The chicken is great and if you ask for their homemade garlic sauce it is sinful!  75% of the time I substitute the rice for french fries - a great upgrade and no extra charge!  The lady who takes the orders behind the counter is great and the guys making the food are always friendly.  It gets pretty crazy around lunchtime and there are only a few tables/barstools so if you get stressed out with crowds, try to arrive before 11:30 or after 1:00.  You can always call in your order to 213-236-0604.  Oh ya - they also deliver if you live close by (minimum purchase is around $25).  They have a special take out Christmas menu available (minimum order is for 5 people at $10 each).  The greatest thing about this place is it is consistently good food and good service although during the lunch rush it may seem a little more like Seinfeld's Soup Nazi sketch.
