YEAH. I think I am deep love with this store. Yes, it is amazing, and yes it's pricey. I went there to get peacocks feathers for my costume. And yes they had them. They were a 1.25 or something, which is reasonble. They also had a fan, glue gun, glue (From the art store), a cute bracelets I got for .50 cents each.  In the front of the toy store part, they have racks and racks, of really cool things, that would be great for gifts of any ages, not just kids.

This place surprised me, it's literally jammed packed with stuff. And I feel like you'd be able to find gifts easy for even young adults based on some stuff in the front, there are things here I'd totally like to get as a gift.

Pros:

Convenient to public transportation.
Large selection.
Non-corporate (i.e., it's a local business).
Abundant selection of cute things that made me smile/laugh/stare in wonder/want to play.
Toys for children of all ages.
Lots of classic toys.
Lots of modern toys.

Cons:

Tight aisles.
Prices are a little steep, but I've nothing to which to compare them, so maybe they're normal.

Don't let the tiny space fool you.  They have everything an artist would probably need in a pinch.  They also have some great products that an independent art store can carry (the hand-print journals and sketch books are GREAT!).  Their prices are high, so be careful with that.  But the owner is very helpful.

Sullivan's is my husband's go-to toy store for his niece and nephews. We always come here because it has just about every popular thing a girl or boy could want as far as toys. It might not be as big as some of the major toy stores, but seriously we always find about 10 things to buy. Usually we are late sending gifts (oops!) so the edge is taken off a bit when we finally give them 100 pieces of freaking Thomas the Train paraphernalia.

Sullivan's often has jaded teenagers manning the checkout counters, and they oooh and aaah over my husband's tattoos. I love it. Sullivan's also is not as expensive as you might think a smaller toy store might be. It's not trying to be fancy or chic or anything -- it's just a straight-up toy store.

We can usually find parking in this neighborhood, and it's within walking distance to the famous Two Amy's pizzeria.

My friend's one year old daughter gives Sullivan's 2 thumbs up! I got her a wooden pull toy from this place and, according to her mom, the toy was a big hit.

This is one of the few places I have found Marky Sparky's Doinkit darts, football and golf play sets as well as Global  brand puzzles. There's also dress up clothes and all kinds of kid's accessories .

This store is an odd mix of art supplies and toys. But, maybe not so odd. Many kids love to draw, so if you are putting a gift together for a young friend or relative, grab some paper and some crayons or marker on your way out and..ta da... a gift basket.

Sullivan's Art Supplies is a small room off of the main toy store. It packs a lot of stuff into the area, but by virtue of its size may not have everything you're looking for. It is also more expensive than most other art stores. Still, it was really good for emergency runs when I was taking graphic design classes and didn't want to go all the way downtown or to Bethesda.

Although selection is a little bit limited, this small shop is packed to the gills with fun and educational toys. It can get hairy on Saturday morning when the birthday partiers and their parents descend. Prices are far more reasonable than the fancy toy stores down towards M St., and a little bit more expensive than what you'd pay in the mall --  but who wants to go to a mall? The staff is incredibly friendly and will let your kid go nuts playing with everything on the shelves. Free giftwrapping is a plus, especially for me.
