At Sullivan's, there is skipping and there is hitting.

Skip the overpriced, too-sweet cocktails, skip the bread (it's like a giant Subway roll - ick), skip the appetizers.  Skip most of the sides except the creamed spinach.  Skip the extras that you can get with your steak, especially their "special" Oscar sauce.  Gross.

Hit the steak.  Hit it hard, hit it rare, hit it with everything you've got.  It comes with an iceberg wedge, so hit that, too.

Then get out of there quickly before the chemical scent of birthday sparklers makes you want to pass out.

OMGosh I can't believe this place is calling itself a fine steakhouse! Blecchh! Very mediocre steaks served with no pinache or taste. They just threw my filet mignon on a big white plate. It looked like a medium sized meatball alone on the plate. They offer to charge an extra three bucks to put a slab of wine butter on there, but I say a steak should stand on its own. Mine did not stand on its own. The escargot appetizer was fine (served in shells which I thought was weird though) but the filet was tuff and not well cooked or seasoned with anything other than a lot of salt.

The service is retarded. You are mobbed by girls who are dressed like low-rent call girls. No one really listens or gives you the information you want to make decisions on entree or wine. Instead they read to you from a script like programmed robots. Their wine list offers me nothing new or interesting. Seems like just random labels they extracted from the California coast.

For the price I think you could go to a proper Prime steakhouse. Sullivan's is a total rip off. Avoid avoid avoid!

Their bar was cool so we tried dinner there one night. Oh boy what a mistake.

They charge top prices for pretty mediocre steaks. Very poor presentation too. After the waitress recited a 10-minute long rehearsed speech about the menu, we were finally permitted to order. After being served a wedge of lettuce with blue cheese crumbles on top (real original, dont bother to chop the salad, just lump a head of lettuce on a plate) a group of waitresses in fishnet stockings hastily plopped down our dinners which were merely steaks lumped on a plate. The sauces were nothing to cheer about, the steaks were way too tough and flavorless for a supposed up-scale place. Service was very impersonal. The whole dinner service had an assembly line feel to it.

This is what one can expect from a chain I guess. Reminded me of Morton's when they wheel a cart out with raw steaks and go through the motions of a 10-minute spiel about every cut of meat. Exactly like that. It's too expensive for a mediocre steak served by random people. You never see your waitress after she recites the menu (as if we can't just read it ourselves). You feel like you are being hustled by a car salesman and instead of the Porsche you paid for, you are given keys to a lemon.

Oh, also the wine list is useless. It's loaded at the top with premium bottles ranging $200-$1800. If you want to spend less than $200 on a bottle you have to take a guess a pick some label you've never heard of that the server cannot describe. Such poor steaks don't deserve a $200 bottle. Perhaps if they took some time to prepare and present a really good steak, I'd consider splurging on the wine. But at Sullivan's the steak's not even worth the price.

Try the bar on $5 martini night, but avoid like the plague the main dining room.

Hello! Steaks, Martinis & Jazz, I'm in!

From the restaurant with a menu to make your eyes water to the live entertainment and the outside patio, it will be hard to find a better place in Tucson to have fun with your friends. Whether is is a fine dinner or chilling with some cool jazz, the service is top notch and the place is a where a lot of business can happen.

Plan on an evening, get there early if you want to chill at the band.  This place gets 2 thumbs up both times I visited.  It is a step above!

A recent getaway from PHX to Tucson gave me a craving for the rarity in my life of red meat...I needed a good filet... The concierge of my resort recommended Sullivans.. HMMM not sure where to begin... Its good...not great.. not fab...its good.. It didnt rock my socks off like the Ruths Chris Kobe... but it was good.. have you gotten the idea yet... And its a premium... for good..
Started with an order of Pinot Noir... the waiter.. (a very flirtatious waiter, at that...:-) its okay.. were single girls away for the weekend..and he was a cute, nice guy...)... told us they had no more.. uh oh...went for a mid priced Cab.. Starter for me was a Blue Cheese Wedge Salad... I loved it.. its iceburg lettuce, but I loved it. Just get the dressing on the side, as I did, I saw another pass that wasnt 'sided' and it looked drowned... Entree was a 8 oz filet... med rare..and I ordered the goat cheese cab butter... next time I will pass on that upcharge..drowned my steak and I ended up scraping it off... A baked potatoe with the trimmings... and button mushrooms.. So to finish our bottle off... we had it corked... took a medium bodied cigar to go.. (YES!! I was excited to see that on the menu, and have it cut and wrapped to take back to the room).. also the waiter comp'd us a dessert... omg.. full!!! AND not much of a sweet tooth..but okay, vacay weekend... I got the Bananas Foster Bread Pudding minus the ala mode... made for half a good breakfast the next morning with my french press coffee in my room.
Waiter was great... but serving an entree when the starter is still out.. Fail! .. Bread, not that I like to endulge too much, but it was just plain...nothing special for a nice steakhouse... Steak good... for the price..maybe not so much... and they pipe some fast clubby type music into the dining room, but the jazz was playing from the bar... just let the jazz in!

I admit it, the steak I had here was very good. About as good as the Prime beef we get at Costco and grill out. But the prices? What has happened in this country? People are willing to pay hyper-inflated prices for a piece of meat, and then more hyper-inflated prices for a potato, and incredibly hyper-inflated prices for a seafood appetizer? I would love to see a rebellion with people protesting this pretentiousness! Maybe we could get restaurants to come back down to earth with their prices.

Paki player and I went here in december of 2008 on a Saturday night. This place was always packed in college and definitely out of our budget. So when we met up in Tucson last Christmas we just had to see what the hype was all about. We got there to be welcomed by an empty dining room at around 9:30 pm. Maybe one other couple. Guess economic times hurt Tucson fine dining really bad.

I had high expectations for the steak, but it was okay at best, not at all meeting its hype. Great for steak in tucson, but not if you have had good steak in California or Chicago or been to Ruth Chris, etc. Way too much fat on the steak for the price. Also, I ordered medium rare and it turned out to be a little chewy and not as tender. Atmosphere used to be great back in the day when there were always exotic cars parked out front, live piano, and a packed crowd. However, it seemed way too dead now.

Would recommend staying away from this place unless you are never able to go out of town on vacation where you could try decent steak. Did I mention that it is extremely overpriced for Tucson and overall in general the $50 per steak price does not even come close to the quality you would expect.

Stayed in Tucson on business and got Sulivan's as a recommendation through a friend. Arrived at 10:30 pm and the outdoor bar/lounge was crowed, while the restaurant had already emptied out for the evening. We started with a bottle of Russian River Pinot Noir, $45.00, warm bread, and a Ice-burg Blue Cheese Lettuce, all very good. I'd have to say the the wine list was a little pretentious, but the Fillet Mignon made up for it. Great cut, perfectly cooked, but over priced by $15.00 bucks. The staff is attentive, good looking, and very well dressed. Dark lights, intimate, relaxed with some club music in the background. Went outside to smoke a cigar and have drinks where there was a DJ playing music. Mixed young crowd with your proverbial posers, but all well behaved. Limo drivers are there until pretty late parked all around the building. I would go there again.

Sullivan's is a great steakhouse. First of all, they have live jazz I believe on Thursdays and sometimes on the weekends. A little salon area where you can go relax, have some drinks and listen to live jazz in a very intimate setting. Great ambience here all around. I really like their steaks as they give you very thick cuts instead of long leaner cuts. My kind of meat. Always cooked to perfection as well. My dad came here with me one night and even he enjoyed it. He hates just about everything.

Sullivans is a nice change for Tucson however a bit overpriced. Ive been here a few times and the food never really impressed me much. It lacks artistic presentation and is your run of the mill overpriced steakhouse. For the prices and selection of meats, I expect nice garnishes, great tenderization and cooking to ensure texture of food is on par.

I ordered a simple Caprese salad (I believe its called the tomato mozzarella with balsamic reduction) and it was great... a bit on the bland side and lacking a fair amount of reduction sauce on it (even on the size, even extra drizzle... nada). It was just tomato hunks and mozzarella hunks.

The oh so trendy to order Chilean Sea Bass was good. Mediocre for the price. It was extra salty and very bland as well. The asian inspired sauce on the side was not a great mix for this fish nor was it amazing on its own.

Our waiter Jeff did have a nice knowledge of wine as far as my weak level of wine knowledge goes to get impressed.

My friends both ordered burgers (off menu but its a bar menu item) and were very very happy with them. They said its great to go for happy hour when its 1/2 off. Deal !

With that advice given to me, only go when its 1/2 off happy hour and order a burger at the bar. Don't get the skewers or anything else. You'll only get the quantity of a tiny nibble.

I went to Sullivan's last weekend while I was in Tucson.  I'm from LA and have tried many different steakhouses, but the Cowboy steak I had here (cooked medium rare) may be the BEST steak i've ever tried!! It was so tasty and juicy! yummmmm
We had a side order of Asparagus and Mushrooms, and both were very good.  Even the salad that came with the meal was awesome! I'd love to go back again!

I came here for guys night out so I can't write on the food, only the lounge.

Cool scene, nice sophistication (which is quite rare in Tucson) and a relaxed decor.

However the wine list  (at least by the glass) was rather disappointing and after asking for Silver Oak Cab Napa the bartender left only to ask 2 other people....

I'm no wine snob but c'mon, Silver Oak is like the Cristal of wine's, even if you don't have it, people at least know what you're talking about.

We recently wandered into Sullivan's for dinner after our reservation at PF Chang's didn't actually reserve us anything but a buzzer.

They were able to seat us right away which was good and the food was okay, but that was about it.

My husband and I went with my father and stepmom.  Between us all we had 2 prime rib dinners and 2 steak and seafood combo dinners.

The prime rib was good, but the horseradish sauce was more of a slightly spiced sour cream than it was horseradish.  My stepmom's steak came out undercooked twice (she asked for MR).  All the other food (green beans, salads, lobster bisque, crab-stuffed shrimp) was pretty good, if overpriced.

I don't think I'd go to Sullivan's again - just not enough about it to draw me back.

Disclaimer: I'm a vegetarian so I can't comment on the quality of steak.

Sullivan's is an ok place to go for a swanky swanky kind of steakhouse experience.  Rich people like to hang out on the patio and smoke expensive cigars.  If that's your bag, then by all means rock on over to Sullivan's.  If it isn't, well, don't say I didn't warn you.

Lute Olson and Kevin O'Neill were eating there the same night after the calamity that was the '07-'08 UA Basketball season.  You could cut the tension with a knife.

We have been to Sullivan's several times as well as to their competition, Flemings, McMahons and Kingfisher.  The service is always outstanding and friendly and the atmosphere more fun, less stuffy than Flemings or McMahons.  Unfortunately, I can only give it three stars due to the amount of salt used in each dish.  The four main courses we had (filet, two ribeyes, one lamb chop order) were all oversalted.  Very disappointing as it is so easy to let customers add their own salt.  The meats were perfectly cooked, very tasty, but way too much salt.  So sorry we can't give it 5 stars!

The Sullivan's lounge is where the Friday crowd goes after North.  I heard bad things from a trusted source so I had been avoiding it but I got talked into checking it out a while back.

Lots of people seem to like it but I don't get it.  I say we should find a better place to hang out on Friday.

Remember all the people from North 5 minutes ago and a mile up the road?  Throw out any of the ones you'd actually want to hang out with, take the same size crowd and put it in a space that is about 15% the size.

NOISE, NOISE, NOISE!!!!  ONE STAR BECAUSE OF THE NOISE!!!
So, we had a ladies' night out last evening and ALTHOUGH THE FOOD WAS REALLY REALLY GOOD AND THE SERVICE WAS FINE, our whole dining experience was totally undone by the HORRENDOUS VOLUME  of the canned music from the minute we walked into the entryway.  We could not have any kind of conversation at all. We entreated the wait staff as well as the manager all of whom were very kind and all of whom did turn down the volume but not for more than about 5 minutes before it was blasting away again. Now, when the music is turned up, voices are raised and soon everyone is practically shouting at each other. It made me almost ill. I do want to  add, for the sake of honesty, that I am no spring chicken and neither are my friends but I don't think of myself as an old grouchy biddy. I am very young at heart. The entire wait staff as well as the manager, who looked like Doogie Houser, are all very young and maybe it's just an age difference thing over there. I do wish they would look around the dining room and recognize that they are  serving a very mixed age crowd and be a little more thoughtful. Some of us like to engage in conversation during dinner without the shouting.
In any case, if I do go back, it's never going to be on a  Saturday evening again.

I'm rating the lounge only! (I heard the restaurant is good too, but overpriced.) This is a great place for really good cocktails and live jazz music. Thursdays there are appetizer specials and $5 martinis! Can't beat that! My fave is the chocolate diva. mmmmmmm The only thing though, is that it's a little cramped in there. They could use more space!
