My friend chose Sullivan's as the spot for her luncheon reception. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was lovely! J'adore the Rat Pack theme, and the vocal jazz playing created a phenomenal setting for the wedding celebration. I can tell Sulli's gets sexy come nightfall: dark wood finishes, with dim lighting and large cityscape paintings on the walls, mostly of jazz themes.

The food was good, but I felt like they would do better for dinner. We had grilled chicken and salmon, with creamy spinach and mashed potatoes, all of which was delicious, and hinted that they can really do up fine meals, including steak. We just had the house red and white wines; I had the red, which wasn't uber remarkable, but wasn't shabby, either.

The service was good; they handled the wedding party/guests quite well, so my friend made a good choice there. I hope I get to go back to Sullivan's again for dinner, so I can see what they're reall made of.

Eh, I've had better.  Visitied Sullivan's as part of my friend's bachelor party with a group of 12.  They seated us in a private room which worked out great as we had a box of Cubans to light up.  Coming from California one thing I'm not used to is being able to smoke in a restaurant.  Sullivan'ts gets one star for that.

I ordered a filet medium rare, and that's where things fell apart.  First, they forgot my order.  Then to make up for the time lost as all the other entrees had been brought out, they tried to cook the steak super fast, which they brought back as an extra charred "medium rare".  On top of that they forgot my asaparagus.  I sent the order back and they corrected it, bringing back a new filet, medium rare.  Unfortunately everyone else was done at that point.  I give them credit for fixing their mistakes quickly with no questions asked, but really with a dedicated server and the price we paid I'd expect better service.

They had a decent wine menu though many of the wines were way overpriced (some more than 3x retail) and you really have to hunt for something that's decent and reasonably priced.

All in all it was a good night, but credit goes more to the company I was with than the actual restaurant.

For a steakhouse, the worst part of our meal was...the steak--tough, flavorless, piece of nothing.  The sides were ok (think we got scalloped potatoes and asparagus, however this meal was so lackluster I barely remember).  The one thing I DO remember is the music.  It was unbelievably loud and obnoxious.  So loud, in fact, that I couldn't hear the person virtually yelling at me from right across the table.  Apparently deafening music creates atmosphere which is supposed to distract you from your mediocre meal and subsequent out-freaking-rageous bill (for what you get).

There's eating out and there's dining.  A trip to Sullivan's definitely puts you in the later category.  I've enjoyed some fantastic meals here, mostly based on their understanding that cooking a steak rare means a cold, red center.  However, there are a few surprises on the menu too (from the oddly good horseradish mashed potatoes to actual non-steak entres like the crab-stuffed shrimp).

It's a nice spot where the menu and the quality actually match the atmosphere they work so hard to throw out there.  For extra atmosphere, they have a private room that works great for parties and adds even another layer of class on top of the spot.

They do know where they are, though, and as such make sure that the bar sits separate from the restaurant enough that any Glenwood South drinker on the move could stop in, enjoy a drink, and pop right back out without knowing how close they were to one of the most charming spots in Raleigh.

I went here on Sunday night for the first time. We've had plans to go here several times in the past and they've always fallen through, so I was extremely excited that it all finally managed to work out this time.

When we got there, we had a drink in the bar before heading into the dining room- it's been a while since I had such a great Cosmopolitan! Most places either mix them far too strong, or have too much cranberry in them, but this one was absolutely perfect... I could've quite happily sat and sipped on them all evening. They also had a small jazz band playing at the end of the bar but unfortunately, you couldn't hear them very well over the roar of the crowd during the basketball game that was playing on the TV's.

We moved into the dining room and ordered our meals- the waitstaff were very friendly, courteous and constantly on top of things. I ordered their crab cake appetizer which was simply marvellous- I still haven't found anywhere that makes them as amazing as Glenwood Grill however.

Unfortunately, when my entree arrived I realized I probably shouldn't have ordered the mushroom duxelles filet mignon- the sauce was slightly overpowering on the meat & i was glad that I order my steaks medium-rare.  Their skillet steak mushroom caps are to die for however, and their horseradish mashed potatoes were quite good- especially seeing as I hate horseradish!

As it was my birthday I should've recieved a chocolate souffle but the hostess had forgotten to tell our waitress. I wasn't too heartbroken about it however- I got a slice of espresso chocolate mousse cake instead which was absolutely delightful. Instead of the espresso topping, I had raspberry sauce drizzled over it and I was completely in heaven!

My only complaint about the place is that I was rather offended by the 5 young men who arrived for dinner in the dining room wearing baseball caps and cargo pants. When I asked the waitress if she could have a polite word with them about it, she just shrugged and gave me a look of "i wish we could" while saying that she'd mention it to management. Who in their right mind goes for a nice dinner wearing baseball caps and cargo pants?! common sense should tell you to dress appropriately! Eitherway, when no one said anything to them about it, my dad made a quiet comment to them and they were quite happy to remove their hats.
