Let's face it...there's a lot of cupcake cacophony running around as of late. In the end, most of them are just riding on the craze of grown-ups with disposable income reliving their youth with a classy cupcake, and just charging them the same Starbucks price; they use fancy names like "Hemingway", or the "Burlesque", to draw you in. But in reality it's just a $5 chocolate cupcake that you feel like a full-grown idiot for purchasing.
So...while I do have very similar circles as one of the owners of SugarStar, I honestly expected another pricey crapcake to appease my son, and the good ol' sensation of "Keeping it Local". I was not expecting a milkshake that's the size of a REAL milkshake, to be treated with that local, "Hey! What are you doing here? Happy to have you!" attitude (on campus too), or to see other friends, or to get a cupcake for my son that I could understand why it was a delicacy. (For the other reviewers...hello, you can scrape the icing off & eat it later, cause it STILL rocks!)
If you want a REAL frickin' cupcake served by ladies who are genuine burlesque beauties, who have actually read Hemingway...go to SugarStar. If not...pick any other cupcake cart with a moniker that starts with the name "Sugar", and toss them your money so you can ride that Generation Why(?) short bus a little longer. -

ay, yi, yi..a cupcake trailer 2 blocks from the workplace?! *sigh* I'll burn it off on the walk, right?! My co-worker and I came here for a sugar saving! Something to wake us up and give us some afternoon pep! And to get out of the office. hehe
The lovely lady through the window was SO sweet and helpful..she offered us her suggestions/favorites. Always nice to hear. :)
I got the Red Devil Cupcake with a scoop of ice cream. I will say, the cupcake was good..the cupcake with the ice cream was amazing. But, on top of the cupcake was a huge blob of icing..white icing. I'm sure it would have been good, but it was just too much sugar for me. After scooping off the icing..the combination was just perfect. My friend ordered the Peanut Butter Cupcake with a scoop of ice cream, she was in HEAVEN! She said the cupcake had peanut butter pieces in it?! AMAZING! Have to try that one next time. They have a few menu options that will cure that afternoon sweet tooth.
I think we found our afternoon getaway. :) -

Same mediocre duncan heinz cupcakes as Hey Cupcake? Sadly, Check.
Tried these at the Zilker Garden festival, and was very underwhelmed.
I realize that cupcakes are popular, but these folks are a day late and a cupcake short. Sorry ladies, your tats are cute but your goods are lacking.
Do yourself a favor - if you want some delicious desserts catered, order from Sugar Mama's and get something delicious.Comment from kristin g. of Sugarstar Dessert Trailer 2/4/2010

Serving very refreshing floats (with blue bell ice cream) and extremely rich, cupcakes, it's the perfect way to finish off a meal at the Longhorn Food Court!

I visited today Longhorn Food Court for the first time and this will be my unfortunate guilty lunch pleasure. Strawberry poptarts and ice cream sandwich: Oh. My. Goodness. it was beautiful. I have not had a poptart in years, but I am glad my friend convinced me to splurge. The ladies were also very sweet and helpful-I will continue to support Sugarstar!

All I can say is wow! best cupcake in Austin - and I have tried most of them. Moist, excellent flavor - with the only problem being a touch too much frosting. Friendly. good service. Just plain awesome!

The cupcakes are so good but SO EXPENSIVE! There is a cupcake called the "Vanilla Carmel" that is a vanilla cupcake with caramel in the center, topped with buttercream frosting, which costs $2 for a mini-cupcake..about the size of a racquetball. Then there is a cupcake at Whole Foods that is just as good (same vanilla cupcake with caramel center and buttercream frosting) except bigger (tennis-ball size...sorry, I only know ball comparisons) that costs $6 for a pack of 6. Hmm!
